Coming Soon! - A Quick Glance Ticker page is in the works. This will give a quick and easy view of the TOP performing items for a certain Mk category (where applicable) all on one page. This will act as a substitute until we are able to get an RSS feed that pulls data to display in traditional stock ticker fashion as it scrolls along your screen.
"WANTED" - The BME is reaching capacity on the amount of items we are able to track on a weekly basis. WE NEED YOUR HELP! The Black Market Exchange is looking for a few dedicated individuals to help out with 3 Major Roles on our logistics end. 1) "Trackers" - In order to keep the Hot List up to date and growing with more items each week, we need Exchange "Trackers" that can dedicate 3 days out of their week for 1 HOUR or less, to track an assigned item's performance on the Exchange. Collecting 3 key points of data (Quantity, LECI & HECI) by 4pm Central (-6 GMT) - Monday, Wednesday and Friday - for our stock charts on Item Performance. 2) Forum Moderators - We need a few dedicated individuals willing to help keep the BMEBB (Bulletin Boards) Free from ad spammers, flamers, and help maintain an neat and orderly format to the posts. This folks should also be willing to help out with Q&A about the BMEBB, including technical problems related to the forum itself and also the content within. 3) PR Reps - The BME is looking for a few Public Relations Representatives to help get the word out! This can be YOU! It's very simple to spread the word about our efforts on this site and in the game itself. Tell your fleet mates and friends, zone chat ads, and forum posts where ever you may post will be a great help in getting this community growing! Mission Statement:

The Black Market Exchange is the first Star Trek Online Fan Site to premier a new concept for MMOs and how people utilize Auction Houses, i.e. “The Exchange”, during their gaming experience. We at the BME feel that STO is lacking a community driven enterprise aimed at bringing players together, aside from the clutter and chaos of the Star Trek Online Forums. As such, we shall endeavor to bridge this gap, and at the same time provide a useful gaming tool that shall enhance a gamers play style. The Black Market Exchange focuses on two main categories of STO Economics: Item Performance and Bartering.

Using the information obtained from The “Hot” List, players will be able to track and discuss a popular items performance for the week, month and even quarterly reports, and gauge what items are suitable for their gaming style. New players to STO will be “in the know” as to what items they should be looking for during their game play, while also knowing what items they can splash onto a vendor for quick “EC”. There will also be tips and guides available for players to learn how to work the exchange to trade and obtain greater profits.

The Bartering comes into play in two ways. The in game chat channel offers players a real time place to post their goods, or search for an item they need. Should another “smuggler” happen to know a means to an end, the parties involved may then attempt to arrange a deal that can benefit both parties, rather than wasting hours of searching the exchange for an item you can’t find or can’t afford. The Bulletin Boards, accessible via the website, offer another place to post your goods and intent, giving players 3 options to trade in STO, rather than just using the Auction House.

Goals:

Building up the STO community by providing a means through which players can help regulate trade on the exchange and drive the game economy by using the information obtained on the BME.
Provide a forum of discussion that is friendly and open to all Fleets and Factions (Fed and KDF) and also provide a space for fleets to advertise their fleet website and pull in potential new recruits & site hits.
Provide real market analysis of Hot Items on the Exchange, keeping players informed on Rare and Popular Items to help fine-tune their game play experience.
Provide an alternative source to trade your goods, both in game and the BME website, via the Bulletin Boards with an added % discount for being a BME trader.

In the Future:

Provide weekly pod-cast business reports for the BME that will cover related News Topics and Index performance of the Exchange, all to add to your gaming experience.
Provide a stock ticker that scrolls the daily performance of certain items, similar to the NYSE across the web page.

The "Hot" List has been updated and reformatted for a more user friendly interface!

Check out the new features that have been added including:
Performance - This link will show the item's weekly performance on the exchange.
Details - This link will re-direct you to a STO Wiki site that will provide a detailed breakdown of that item.
Quick Glance - This feature shows a quick review of the numbers for the daily performance of a particular item, typically the "best performer" being tracked. The "Ticker" will flash the item's name, the date/time the stock numbers were obtain for the item, the item's availability, quantity, it's high end, median and low end closing costs in Energy Credits.

So click on The Hot List button on the navigation bar to see for yourself and remember to leave some comments! We're looking for feed back here people on how to make this site a better tool for the users that visit it.

Why a Hot List?

The Hot List allows players an inside scoop on hard to find items as reflected by their activity on the exchange. This can be helpful information to some players who are still learning the ins-and-outs of the exchange as well as what items are more suitable for their play style in STO. It helps to keep players in the know about what gear is great, and what gear is junk you should just sell to a "Vendor".
How does The Hot List work?
Each month, a few "choice" items will be selected and tracked on the Exchange (RE) over a three-day period per week for four weeks or more depending on the items "popularity". Choice items are determined by the item's rarity, availability, quantity, and performance on the Exchange. Many of the items covered WILL NOT be found in mass quantities on the exchange, thus making them "popular" or "hot" items.

Please remember when you post in your comment to include the following: The "name" and "MK" of the item. The "type" of item, i.e., the "rariety" of the item using the color coding system below and also the "price" you are looking to Buy or Sell for. Also remember to post your player and @name so folks know who to contact concerning your goods.
For Trade or Barter, please post the item as stated above and be sure to include you are LTT (Looking to Trade).

What is the Black Market Exchange?

The “BME” is an open to the public chat channel, used as a shopping alternative to the “Regular Exchange” in STO. “Smugglers” that participate in the “BME” are able to Buy / Sell / or / Trade Rare Commodities (Blue and Purple items ONLY) and other Illicit Merchandise that is Hot on the “RE”. These items include but are not limited to: Ship Repair Components, Rare Foods (72% food items), Rare Tribble Breeds, Batteries of ALL Variety, Medical Regenerators, Data Samples and other small drops that people tend to have to “Farm” for to gather in mass quantities (i.e. grind items).
Where is the Black Market Exchange located?
Everywhere and Nowhere! The BME is a public chat channel in STO. Members can join the channel using their chat config window in-game, and are able to access the channel at any time after they have joined. It appears as channel on your chat list when switching between chats like team, fleet, local, etc. Members are then able to post their items on the channel and trade between parties is determined by those involved in the transaction of goods. Typically DS9, Sol, or Drozana Station (In the Drozana System, located in the Eta Eradani Sector Block) are ideal HUBs for BME transactions.
Why is there a “BME”?
The Black Market Exchange came about for a few different reasons. First, one did not exist in STO until the BME was created. B) Many players are fed up with the greed and inactivity of the Regular Exchange, as well as the inability to sell their items. Three – Many Role Players (RP) do not have the luxury of mounds of funding that some other players may use to buy things off the Regular Exchange, nor the desire to grind for goods that sell for large amounts of EC. The BME provides them, and other players without access to unlimited funds, an alternative to find Rare Items and still have the “Hot” gear for themselves, their crew and their fleet mates. (Not every Fleet has TONS of liquid funds available to their fleet members) Finally the BME gives players the alternative to shop for Rare and Hard to find items, plain and simple, as well as learning some techniques to drive the bottom line of the Regular Exchange to promote fair and profitable competition both in the RE and the BME.

Who can be a Member?

Anybody can join! The BME is open to both Federation and Klingon Factions, Fleets and Players. Role Players are welcome. We ask that people interested in helping this endeavor come be a part in the activity and what the BME has to offer as another source to find the things you need to make your STO experience that much better! We also ask that our members help spread the word to others who may be interested and can help add interesting and fresh ideas to make this project the best source for alternative gear gathering, so that one day, we can make the feed a public chat, open to any and all that wish to trade on the BME.
How do I join the “BME"?

Joining the BME is simple. Contact myself, @Admiral_Chef, either by mail in-game, or PM in-game. You may also send an Email to Admiral_Chef@yahoo.com, with your request to be added to the chat. OR, if you are familiar with the chat channel system, right click on the top bar of your text window in STO to pull up your chat config window. From there click on the "Channels" tab, type in "Black Market Exchange" and then hit the "join" button. If you are having trouble joining the channel, contact myself for assistance using the contact info above. We also ask, that you take the time, and register to become a follower of this Blog, to help generate interest and a broader viewer-ship base. It is the only way you will be allowed to post comments and feedback, as well as any ideas you feel may help benefit other players. It utilizes several existing accounts that you may already have, such as Facebook, Google, Twitter and Yahoo to register as a user on this Blog. Just click the “Follow” button on the right side column section marked “Followers”.

The Smuggler’s Dictionary for the “BME”

Arms Broker – A smuggler who specializes in the distribution of small arms, personal shields, kits or body armors.

BME – Black Market Exchange, aka – “Smuggler’s Paradise”.

BME Discount – The BME Discount is the % reduction of an item’s Low End Competitive Pricing Index or "LECPI”. Typically this % is between 25%-75%, depending on the item and is determined by the Seller.

Bulk Cargo – items exchanged in units greater than 1.

Cargo – An item or group of items for sale or purchase on the RE or BME.

COLD – An unpopular item on the exchange, both RE and BME.

“Competitive” Pricing – The Price ranges that cover everything between the High End and Low End of a particular item. Example: An item selling on the RE has a High End of 1M EC. The next lowest price of the same item is set at 750k EC. After the 750k EC item is a list of 7 items of the same type where the price ranges all the way down to 250k EC at the Low End. These ranges are the competitive pricing. Since the original High End was set at 1M, and another item under bid that High End item by 250k, it “bumped” the High End item out of the “Competitive Pricing Range” making the 750k item the “new” High End and the CP between 750k – 250k for that particular item.

EC – Energy Credits.

HECI - (High End Competitive Index) - The highest competitive pricing on a particular item, aka "High End".

High End – The highest price a particular item sells for on the “RE”, aka "HECI".

HOT – A popular item on the exchange, both RE and BME.

Illicit Merchandise – Item drops that are obtained as a result of exploration/battle or farming, i.e. Batteries (weapon, shield, engine, aux), Data Samples, Components, Aid Mission Relief Supplies, Medical Regenerators, Gifts (aid mission rewards) as well as other “Bulk” items.

Indexing the Exchange – Researching the “Competitive” High End (or HECI) and “Competitive” Low End (or LECI) of a particular item on the RE to determine its “Median Price”.

LECI - (Low End Competitive Index) - The lowest competitive pricing on a particular item, aka "Low End".

Low End – The lowest price a particular item sells for on the “RE”, aka "LECI".

LTB – Looking to Buy.

LTS – Looking to Sell.

LTT – Looking to Trade (barter).

Median Price – The average price of an item on the exchange based on its Competitive High End and Low End Price.

RE – Regular Exchange.

Ship Broker or "Shippers" – A smuggler who specializes in the distribution of ship hardware and related items.

Smuggler – Any member of the BME who deals in “Illicit Merchandise”.

Stockpile – A shipment of “Cargo” that has NOT sold on the “RE” after a long period of time.

Trader - Any member of the BME who specializes in Bartering.
