Hey friends!

The Ultimate Fighter has once again commenced and let me tell you I am super excited for this season! The first episode was the preliminary bouts to decide who got into the house. Every single fight delivered in some way which has not happened on the ultimate fighter in some time. There was tons of action packed into a 2 hour premiere along with a boat load of Dana White profanities and boring back stories from the fighters. All in all I believe the first show was a great success and i would have paid money to see many of those fights on ppv so that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside ;)

Episode 2 begins and Mayhem an Bisping are tasked with selecting their teams. After a interestingly long coin toss, which turned into an awkward coin roll, Bisping wins the choice to pick the first fighter or the first fights (bantam and feather) and he chooses first fighter (this makes mayhem happy). Teams are selected and both coaches are happy with the choices they have made

Why you SHOULD wear shoes when doing ring drills!

So today I get up for work just like any other day, only today feels different..... How, you may ask, does today feel different? Well the main difference would be the throbbing blisters on the bottom of my feet from doing ring drills in the basketball court with no shoes! To make matters worse, after destroying my feet in Boxing class, I being the brilliant young man that I am I decided to do Thai class. Thai = rotating on the ball of your foot = blister destruction = ouch!!! So bottom line.... Get some dad gum shoes and don't destroy your feet!!!!!

Jason 'Mayhem' Miller Signs With UFC

Jason "Mayhem" Miller is going back to the UFC.

The popular middleweight has signed a new multi-fight agreement with the organization, Miller's manager Ryan Parsons confirmed with MMA Fighting.

The 30-year-old Miller (24-7, 1 NC) was able to sign with the UFC due to the fact that his contract with Strikeforce had expired. No word just yet on when his first fight back inside the Octagon will take place.

"Mayhem" had not competed for Strikeforce since last April when he defeated Tim Stout on the undercard of Strikeforce: Nashville. He went on to defeat one of his MMA idols, Kazushi Sakuraba, at DREAM.16 in September, which stands as his last fight to date.

He was close to returning to action against the likes of Nick Diaz and Tim Kennedy, but for various reasons, some even still unknown, those fights never materialized.

The star of MTV's Bully Beatdown last fought for the UFC in 2005 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre. Two years later, Miller returned to Zuffa, defeating Hiromitsu Miura via unanimous decision at WEC 27.

Miller was a guest on a recent episode of The MMA Hour, and he appeared excited at the prospect of facing some of the UFC's best middleweights.

"I will beat the brakes off most of the guys in the middleweight divisions in the UFC," he said. "I guaran-damn-tee it."

Jose Aldo: ‘I will Definitely Beat Mark Hominick’

The UFC 129 hype machine is starting to rev up with the first episode of UFC Primetime: GSP vs. Shields slated for Wednesday. Until then, some of the card’s other main card bouts are getting some play.
In the clip above from the UFC 129 countdown show, WEC featherweight champion-turned UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo expounds on his opponent Mark Hominick.
Surprisingly Aldo doesn’t give the Canadian striker much respect.
“I will definitely beat Mark Hominick. If I didn’t think I could, then I wouldn’t be here now; it’s what I’m focused on — going in there, defending my title and winning. I don’t pay too much attention to what his strengths and weaknesses are,” Aldo said. “I try to pay attention to all aspects of his game and focus on his movements. What he does, how he does it. I don’t pay attention to how technical or emotional he is. I just pay attention to what he does and prepare accordingly.”
As to being a part of the biggest event in UFC history, which will happen to take place in Hominick’s backyard in Toronto, Aldo is nonplussed by the notion of his opponent being the crowd favorite and says he’s just excited to make his UFC debut.
“I’m very focused on my mission but I’m also very excited. I’m very excited to be fighting in the UFC for the first time and being able to defend my title. This is a dream come true. I’m going to be defending my UFC title in front of 55,000 people. I can’t wait. I don’t care where I’m fighting. If I’m fighting in someone’s backyard or not,” he explained. “At the end of the day, when they close the Octagon door, it’s he and I in there. I don’t hear the 55,000 people screaming. I’ve said it before, I don’t know what the hell they’re saying anyway, so it doesn’t bother me. The most important thing to me is to stay focused, the only thing I’m listening to is my corners. As long as I go in there well organized and focused I’ll be able to stay on top and defend my title.”
UFC 129 is set to take place on April 30 at Rogers Centre in Toronto and will feature a strong contingent of Hominicks fellow patriots including Georges St-Pierre, Mark Bocek, Claude Patrick, Rory MacDonald, Jason MacDonald, Sean Pierson, John Makdessi, Ivan Menjivar and Yves Jabouin.

Glycemic Index, Glycemic Load,, and Energy Metabolism

You always hear people talking about “good carbs” and “bad carbs”. It can be confusing to eat the right foods with so many catch 22’s and conflicting information. Glycemic Index refers to the number a particular carbohydrate is assigned based on how fast your body converts it to glucose. The higher the number the faster your body breaks it down. When you eat high glycemic carbohydrates it spikes your insulin level and your body converts the carbs to body fat. Low glycemic carbohydrates (55 and below) break down slowly and help keep blood sugar and insulin level from spiking. These carbohydrates are stored as glycogen that you need for energy. Glycemic load refers to the effect of a “meal” on your blood sugar and insulin levels vs. a particular carbohydrate. When you eat protein and carbohydrates together the protein slows down the effect the carbohydrates have on insulin levels. During anaerobic exercise your body is using ATP (adenosine triphosphate) as a fuel source. Every 5-10 seconds your body must create more ATP. The first source that your body creates ATP from is creatine phosphate. This is why people supplement with creatine for strength and endurance. Creatine is produced naturally in your body and you can find it in foods such as red meat. Creatine is made up of three amino acids - Arginine, Glycine and Methionine. Our liver has the ability to combine these three amino acids and make creatine. The next step in ATP production is glycogen that is stored in the muscle. When you are grappling, sparring, weight training or engaging in activity where short burst of energy are used this is the energy system your body is using. When you engage in long duration low impact exercise such as running, swimming, cycling etc. your body is in the aerobic pathway. Aerobic exercise needs oxygen for fuel and burns body fat. Understanding your body’s energy systems allows you to train specifically for your goals and adjust your nutrition properly to increase performance. Mixed Martial Artist should train specifically for the demands they will face. The S.A.I.D. Principle (Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands) is very important to follow for athletes. Running 10 miles does not translate well to intense 3-5 minute rounds. MMA Fighters should perform plyometrics, sprints, and intense circuits with short rest in between. Flipping tires, slamming Kamagon Balls, running sprints, and performing plyometrics improves your anaerobic system and transfers over to your specific goals. Nutrient timing for performance is equally important. Eating the right types of carbohydrates at the right times will fuel your body while allowing you to stay lean and near the weight that you fight or compete at. In my next article I’ll go into detail about nutrient timing. I’m starting to see cross eyed because I’m so tired. With all the media that Kamagon Fitness has seen lately between the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Jake Shields, New Group X Classes and our Certification Program I’m staying busy.
