Congratulations on a successful Band Camp Showcase! As the rest of marching season follows, be sure to keep a few key reminders in mind. Continue practicing show music, and fundamentals on your own. Be sure to check the calendar often for any upcoming rehearsals, performances, and events, and most of all, STAY HYDRATED!

Let's make sure the momentum created from band camp remains in effect through out this season!

Concert Season!

Great job at performing at the Annual Santa's Arrival Parade at the University Mall as well as the Snow on Seventh Parade! Also, congratulations to all those who auditioned for placements in the Jazz Ensembles - it is going to be a great year for both Jazz 1 and Jazz 2!

In other news, please remember to keep checking the calendar for dates that apply to your ensemble. As we transition from marching to concert season, practices may be less frequent, but are equally important! Enjoy a well deserved break Marching Lions!

Marching Season!

With the start of school, you will now be graded on your attendance to practices as well as having the required materials (pencil, music, instrument, WATER-FILLED hydration pack). Music pass-offs will affect the privilege of 3rd Quarter Break. Be sure to check the band calendar frequently to ensure that you are present at all required events, unless otherwise excused. Remember, for your absence to be excused, it must be an emergency or 2 weeks advanced notice to Dr. Graham and the secretaries.

This year will be a great marching season! Keep up the momentum from Band Camp!

We'll see you at KHS on Saturday, July 2nd from 9:00-11:00AM for 4th of July rehearsal practice. We will meet at the Temple Terrace Rec at 9am on Monday the 4th. The music is available under the Members/Parents tab under special events! See you all soon!!

Fourth of July Rehearsal

Our school year has ended, but the KHS Music Department is not done yet. We are marching in the annual Temple Terrace 4th of july parade. Our parade rehearsal is TOMORROW at Riverhills Elementary (405 Riverhills Drive, Temple Terrace, FL 33617) from 12pm to 1pm. Participation is highly encouraged!

End of Year Concerts

As we come to the closing of another great year for the King High School Music Program, all of the music programs are having their end of year concerts. The orchestra's Cadence concert and the band's Prism concert will both be live streamed and available under the "Live Stream" tab located at the top right hand corner of the drop menu. See the calendar for details about the starting times for these concerts and practices concerning the concerts.

Also, please stay tuned for information about Carnegie Hall! The buzz is not over yet and there are still many fundraising events we will be doing to help fund the trip for students!

The big secret is out! Congratulations on earning a placement in ONE OUT OF THREE PERFORMANCES OF THE YEAR at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2016! With this opportunity in mind, please try and assist in any and all fundraising events you can, as all funds will go towards your trip fund and will reduce the overall cost.

A trip meeting will take place soon! A date will be announced as soon as possible. All those planning to go on the trip should attend.

SUPERIOR!

Congratulations King High School Marching Lions on receiving the third consecutive superior (4 in a row)! It's time to say goodbye to marching season as concert season begins.

Please check the calendar regularly for scheduled events pertaining to you. The next full band event is parading Santa around the University Mall on November 22.

Greetings King High School Marching Lions,

The Chamberlain invitational was a success! Among 13 competitive bands, we received 5th place overall, and among our division, we received 3rd place!

Dress rehearsal was also a success - remember everything we learned - marching fundamentals and show specifics. Keep up the motivation! It's not over yet! MPA is on Saturday, November 1st, at Bloomingdale High School. Official report time will be 3:00PM, however, past marching shows will be playing in the cafeteria around 12:00PM for those who would be interested in viewing the King High School tradition! Brass polishing will take place at 11:00AM.

As this week is our MPA week, this week is also Band Spirit week! The spirit schedule is as follows:

Monday, October 27th - Sound of Music Show Shirt Day
Tuesday, October 28th - Retro Show Shirt/Lion's Pride Shirt Day
Wednesday, October 29th, Marching Shoes, Gloves, and Section Shirt Day
Thursday, October 30th, Section Halloween Costume Day/Halloween Contest
Friday, October 31st, Formal Dress Day (Lion's Pride 2014 Shirts for Game)
Saturday, November 1st - MPA (Sound of Music Show Shirts)

Also, come check out the King High School Orchestra and Symphonic Band as they perform at 7:00 PM on Tuesday for their annual Halloween Concert!

Greetings King High School Marching Lions,

Congratulations on a job well done at Lion's Pride! Twenty high school marching bands joined us from all over the county to compete. This event helps to fund the band program at King High School and allows us to keep doing all the cool things we do! Also, congratulations on the second consecutive year that we have earned an overall superior rating at our own exhibition! But, as always, there is still room for improvement - keep in mind and build up all of the skills and knowledge acquired from your first day in band camp.

Please remember that the King High School Marching Lions are, for the first time, competing in another competition this year at Chamberlain. This event is like Lion's Pride, only we are the visitors and get to relax and watch other bands while Chamberlain does all the event maintenance! Transportation by bus will be provided. See the calendar for more details regarding time.

Greetings King High School Marching Lions,

Congratulations on setting the entire show on the field within the first few weeks of school! This is one of the most marching intensive shows the KHS Marching Lions have put on for a while, and the hard work you have put into practice has paid off! That being said, it is now time to start cleaning up the drill and working on basics marching technique. Keep up the good work and momentum!

In other news, the mattress sale was a success! We sold over 22 mattresses total. Great job!!!

P.S. Remember that your 4th Number is due on October 2nd, but it is never too early to pass off!

Congratulations on achieving full funding for our Mallets for Marching DonorsChoose project ! Thank you to all of our donors, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (for paying half of the cost), for helping to fund our front ensemble equipment!

On this happy note, keep up the momentum from Band Camp! The year and marching season are far from over - there is only room for improvement. Accept only the best!

P.S. PRE-HYDRATE, HYDRATE, and POST-HYDRATE - August and early September are one of the hottest times of the year. For this reason, it is important to stay hydrated and HAVE YOUR FILLED HYDRATION SYSTEM ON THE FIELD.

P.P.S. As expected, the Graham Champions dominated at the Band Camp Volleyball tournament, although there is still one bracket to be finished!

Also, the Alonso Football game has been cancelled due to a lack of bus transportation. Instead, we will be making up our cancelled Band Camp party at the Temple Terrace Rec Center! All of the graduating class items are the same: Freshmen & Sophomores bring INDIVIDUALLY packaged drinks, Juniors and Seniors bring desserts - these items will be your tickets into the party!
