Today, it's one week ago Richard Wright died. I must say the news hit me quite bad. Even though he wasn't seen as one of the front figures of Pink Floyd he's still a musician that I've really admired.

As a tribute, here is one of my favourite songs of Pink Floyd, and it's written by Richard Wright himself.

I listened to this clip today and thought it was worth sharing. It's a cover on The Beatles' song "Yesterday". performed by Ray Charles.

The concert film Ray Charles: Soul of the Holy Land August 1973 documents the legendary performer's historic Tel Aviv concert and includes footage of him visiting some of the most renowned religious sites in the world. The 17-song set list includes many beloved hits including a cover of the Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road," "Let the Good Times Roll," "I Can't Stop Loving You," and "Yesterday."

The reason why I found this clip was that it was presented as #3 of best covers on "Yesterday" at this website. Maybe you can find some more good covers if you check it out!

The John Butler Trio

My first contact with John Butler was two years ago when I listened to his instrumental song "Ocean", on YouTube. It's a amazing song and I must say I was really impressed. His guitar skills are brilliant and I'd never before heard that kind of sound.

This summer I visited Cambridge, and by a coincidence i ran into a copy of The John Butler Trio's latest CD "Grand National". I didn't listen to it until i came home but since then it feels like it has been running through my speakers constantly. Except for a great guitarist and a special sound, the music aren't anything like "Ocean" but It's still amazing!
The CD contains 13 tracks and in my opinion, all of them are great. This is a CD everyone have to listen to. Myself, I'm on my way to get their other releases and If they're just half as good as Grand National is I'll still be happy.

The John Butler Trio are an eclectic roots/jam band from Australia led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler. Two of the band's albums, Three (2001) and Living 2001-2002 (2003), have gone platinum in Australia and reached the top ten of the Australian album charts in those years. The 2004 album Sunrise Over Sea debuted at number one on the Australian charts on March 15, 2004 reaching gold record status in its first week on sale. Their next and latest release, entitled Grand National, was released on March 27, 2007. The band's releases are marketed independently by Jarrah Records which John Butler co-owns with West Australian folk band the Waifs.

The band won an ARIA award for "Best Independent Release" for Three in 2001 and again for Grand National in 2007 and has been nominated for three others. Three was released in the U.S. in 2002 and the John Butler Trio toured the U.S. in that year supporting the Dave Matthews Band and John Mayer.

I've been listening to Another Side Of Bob Dylan this weekend. I managed to fall in love with one song.

The song deals with hi recent break-up with Suze Rotolo and her sister. I think the song is fantastic, even though Dylan once said, refering to the song: "I look back at that particular one and say...maybe I could have left that alone."

BMI Film/TV Composer Award

This gala evening, it was handed out a total of 80 BMI Crystals. Pete Townshend was awarded three of them, which made him go home with the most crystals this evening. He was awarded for his (The Who's) opening themes to "CSI", "CSI: NY" and "CSI: Miami". As you may know, the opening themes are "Who Are You", "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Bonham and Starr top drum album list!

The list is called "The 50 Greatest Drum Albums" and was published by Rythm magazine earlier this year. In the first place you find the Led Zeppelin album "Led Zeppelin IV" and drummer John Bonham, followed by The Beatles' "Abbey Road and drummer Ringo Starr, in 2nd place.

Led Zeppelin actually got five albums in the top 50 and The Beatles got three!

I have many times talked to people about the "Pete Best/Ringo Starr phenomenon". Some of them has said that Ringo was lucky, that Pete Best was a lot better drummer. They have also said that Ringo Starr was The Beatles weakest link, that he didn't really know how to drum and that he often got out of tempo. These people don't have a clue of what they're talking about.

Won't Get Fooled Again

This is a clip with The Who performing Won't Get Fooled Again, in my opinion one of the greatest rock songs ever! Please notice the contrast between Townshend and Entwistle in this clip. I Think it's kind of fun. Keith Moon, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend go crazy like always but John Entwistle is just standing there, (as usual).

Robert Plant is not in a hurry!

As a comment on the widely discussed, possible Led Zeppelin reunion tour and his present collaboration with Alison Krauss, Robert Plant has said:

"I'm in no hurry to go anywhere. I want to stay very close. This is a font of knowledge, and I'm sticking as close to it as I can"

Alison Krauss agrees by saying:

"We're all having a wonderful time, and I hope and I think all three of us (Krauss, Plant and producer T Bone Burnett) are hoping to continue this and that it goes on and on."

Led Zeppelin won at MOJO

I actually discovered this performance today, 41 years after the day it was recorded in Stockholm, the same city I'm located in at the moment. Even though my thoughts about Hendrix are a little bit ambivalent I think this is one of the best songs ever written.

Paul McCartney will end his career with a two-year long world tour!

According to Sunday Mirror (8/06/08), Sir Paul McCartney will end his career with a two-year long world tour! He says that he want to spend more time with his four years old daughter, Beatrice.

The first dates will be announced later this summer but it is told that the tour will start this autumn and include Europe, Asia, North- and South America and Australia!

This is a clip from his very succesfull concert in Liverpool, which probably inspired him to go on tour.

I just found this clip with The Beatles and thought it was a live performance but then I realised that they didn't have either microphones or cables for their instruments. I compared the music with the track released on their first album "Please Please Me" and realised that they were identical. Intresting.. or maybe not!

Been listening to this song the whole day. Can't get it out of my head, really! Well, everyone know that U2 are something speciall and Sunday Bloody Sunday is probably one of their best songs but it was actually the drums that made me love this song for real. I think they're really cool, they ROCK!
