Choosing the right company to entrust your domain name registrations is vital. There are literally hundreds of companies offering domain name registration services, but how do you know how reliable they are? How long have they been in business? Do they offer all the extra services?

Will they hold your domain to ransom when you come to transfer away? Can you be in full control of your domain at all times? Is the company just another reseller of a reseller of a reseller?!

With so many domain name registration businesses out there how can you ensure you choose one of the more reputable ones?
Here are a few pointers that should help steer you in the right direction:

1. Check to see how long the company has been operating
The World Wide Web has been around for about 14 years or so now and so web hosting and domain registration businesses only began life about 11 years ago. Nominet, the registry responsible for .uk domains was 12 years old in May 2008, so most Nominet members have only been members for 12 years or less. However, there are only a few of the bigger players who have been around for all that time. So check to see how long the domain name registration business you are considering has been around for.

2. Make sure you can control every aspect of your domain name
Many domain name registration companies don't let you make changes to your domains yourself. You have to enter a request via their support systems and then wait days for assistance. Simple things like changing IPS Tags and changing Name Servers should be possible via your control panel. Make sure you get a control panel and check out what the control panel lets you do.

3. If you want to transfer your domain away will you be charged a fee?
Many domain name registration and hosting companies charge a release fee. This charge is completely unnecessary. You should never be held to ransom over your domain name. Also, every time you change hosts and transfer your domains, on gTLDs you will have to pay a transfer in fee. This can be avoided if you make sure you use a good domain name registration company in the first place. You'll never need to transfer a domain again!

4. Check to see if you get any email accounts
Most domain name registration services do not include email. If you want email services with your domain name, most companies charge you for email. In most cases you only get email forwarding. Even for straight forward POP3 email accounts some companies only offer 1 or 2 email accounts. You should make sure you get at least 15-20 POP3 email accounts included free of charge with your domain name registration. Most web hosting companies do not offer free POP3 email accounts. The reason for this is they offer domain name registration as an extra service. It's not the main stay of their business.

5. Are they an ICANN accredited domain name registrar?
You should choose a domain name registration company that is ICANN accredited. Firstly, they have had to go through all the ICANN accreditation checks which is quite an in depth process. Secondly, it's not cheap! So you know the company is committed to Domain Name Registration as ICANN accreditation is a big investment and this should give you complete reassurance.

6. Can you use their SMTP servers for out going email?
Many hosting and domain name registration providers will not let you use their SMTP servers for sending emails. They assume you can send email via your ISP's SMTP servers. However, a great many ISP's and broadband providers will only let you use their SMTP servers on their branded email accounts. But if you use your own email address such as dave.smith@davesmith.net you won't be able to send email via their SMTP servers. There are workarounds but you shouldn't have to go to the trouble. Choose the right Domain Name Registration provider who does allow sending mail via their SMTP servers. Also watch out, there are a number of the top hosting companies that will only let you use their SMTP servers on premium email accounts which incur an extra charge.

7. Are they a reseller of a reseller of a hosting company?
It makes no sense registering your domains through a reseller of a reseller! This simply adds extra layers in the ordering process that could go wrong. It is always better to register your domains with a Nominet member for .uk domains and an ICANN accredited domain name registrar for gTLDs. One way of finding out more about your domain name registration or web hosting provider is via Netcraft *See below.

By simply entering the URL into Netcraft you can then see lots of useful information such as the Nameserver Organisation, the Netblock owner(the company that is actually hosting your website) and lots of other information.

This will tell you whether your hosting provider is the actual hosting company or a reseller.

8. Make sure you always retain control of your domain name
There are literally hundreds of businesses hosting their websites with a web host they're not happy with. Poor service, surprise invoices, unreliable uptime and email issues are just some of the common issues customers are facing today. What most of them want to do is vote with their feet and walk out the door and find another web hosting provider. However moving all their domains to another host is perceived to be a complete admin headache, so disgruntled customers continue to put up with second rate services for fear of the hassle involved in moving to a new web hosting provider.

Is there another way? Yes, there is. Businesses should be making use of a domain name registration company to centrally administer all their domains. There are lots of very professional domain name registration companies that have been in business for years and that provide fully functional control panels that give their customers full control over their domain names. Then, all they have to do is change the name server details from their old host to their new host for each domain.

So go through this 8 point checklist and make sure you choose the right home for your domain name registrations and renewals. There are plenty of companies who rely on hosting and domain name registration providers to look after the very life blood of their online businesses. More and more companies are going online and a great many of them rely on their websites for more than 60% of their revenue. So it makes sense to ensure that your domain name is in the hands of a reliable, reputable and professional company. Check to see how long they've been in business, make sure you can control every aspect of your domain, check to see if there are any hidden charges if you want to transfer a domain, check to see if you get any free email accounts and how many, check to see if the company is an ICANN accredited domain name registrar and a member of Nominet, check to make sure you can use their SMTP servers for sending email, check via Netcraft to see if they are a reseller or the actual hosting company and always, always make sure you retain control of your domain names.

   Introduction

In a world where most all real "one word" domains, in almost all major languages, having any possible commercial value are already parked or being used for a real web site, how do you speculate on potential resale profits without paying a fortune to someone who already owns the domain you have interest in? Making things tougher, how do you obtain such domains, without paying a king's ransom, in a prestigious extension, such as .com, .net, .org, .eu, or .co.uk?

In this article I review some of my own real world experience in domain speculation, and offer advice that will hopefully save you some time, as well as help you avoid wasting your money. By no means am I suggesting that my approach is the only way to proceed successfully. Far from it, there are numerous approaches that have actual or potential merit. I merely posit one potential strategy among many that may prove useful to you.

Practical Considerations

In spite of the fact that virtually all one or two word, commercially valuable names in prestigious extensions are already registered, the domain market is not a "seller's market." Actually, it is not a "buyer's market" either. This apparent paradox devolves from the fact that even though such a high percentage of really good domain names are already registered, sellers parking domains for resale in general are unrealistic in regard to their price expectations. Thus, what could be a seller's market if domain owners were more reasonable in general is in reality a "stalled market." The sad fact is that in order to obtain a really valuable domain that is already registered, there is a high probability that you will have to pay more than you can later sell it for.

To understand just how "stalled" the domain resale market is, if you registered say 100 fair, but not great quality domain names, and advertised them for sale, you might get one or two lowball offers per year. Assuming you were paying $10 per year for each domain to keep them inforce, you might break even. Not a lot of value for the time spent, to say the least.

The above considerations point to three critical factors you have to take into consideration if you wish to be successful as a domain reseller:

You need to focus mainly on unregistered domains, as opposed to buying them in the secondary market.

You need to be realistic in your asking price.

You need to focus on a small to medium number of really good names, instead of a massive quantity of mediocre names.

The Big Conflict

A quick mental review of the above material presents an apparent conundrum. High current value commercial names are in general registered and too expensive to speculate on, and fair to low quality commercial names will get very little action. So how do you proceed with any hope of being successful?

Basically, the answer (or better put, one answer) is focus on the future. If you do some investigation, you'll find out quickly how difficult it is to obtain an unregistered domain that is of high enough quality to turn around quickly at a big profit. This is because virtually all of the domains having high current commercial value are already taken.

A solution, but of course by no means the only solution, is to think in terms of what might become valuable a few years down the road. You will of course be wrong in a high percentage of these speculations, but even one or two winners can pay for a boatload of losers and leave you with a handsome profit.

So Now What?

There are numerous ways to approach future oriented domain speculation. One of the best, and most enjoyable, is to focus on a topic you already have an interest in. Instead of remaining a casual aficionado, become a real guru on the topic. Read books, study relevant web sites, and perform other kinds of research relative to material that focuses on emerging developments in your field of interest. This approach is especially effective in topics that are subject to rapid and frequent advances in underlying technology, such as medicine, computer hardware, communications and networking gear, environmental protection, and home electronics, just to name a few.

Another approach is to look at the question more broadly, and perform search engine queries on phrases like "emerging developments", "best new product ideas", "design award winners", "future trends", etc.

Regardless of which approach you use, it's important to be careful not to register a domain name for a product that is already trademarked, as the trademark owner may be able to unilaterally confiscate your domain without compensation. The trademark database at uspto.gov can be of enormous help in this regard. If there is a "live" trademark for the name you are considering registering, you will be at obvious risk of potentially losing the domain without remuneration.

Getting Specific

None of us are smart enough to guess what acronyms might become important in the future, although if you keep very current in a particular field, you might be lucky enough to register an important one in a prestigious extension before someone else does. I view this scenario mainly as an occasional stroke of luck, as opposed to a strategy.

Another point is that even if a single real word domain is not commercially important now, there is still a very high chance that it is already registered anyway. Thus, the best approach is to focus on short, two "real word" domains, in prestigious extensions, having high potential future commercial value. Even domains in the quality extensions having two real words that are of high current commercial value are for the most part taken. This may surprise some people, thinking that only the great single real word domains are mostly registered, but it just isn't true (if you don't believe it, try and find a good current commercial quality two real word domain in a decent extension, and you'll be unpleasantly surprised).

Examples

An article like this wouldn't be complete without some examples to back it up. In this section, I highlight a sampling of domains from my own portfolio that I registered using the principles discussed above.

LaserDiagnosis.com - While hardly a brand new technology, it is growing in importance, and may be of value to a medical practice or device maker as a forwarding URL to their branded web site (i.e., capturing and redirecting type-in traffic). Note the use of two real words (one of them short), and the prestigious .com extension.

OpticalRam.com - This is a pure play on the future, which may or may not pan out. Technology to produce optical RAM already exists, but not on a basis that is commercially viable yet (i.e., inexpensive enough to compete with traditional flash memory). If technology to produce ultra-fast optical RAM advances to the point that it becomes competitive with flash memory, this could become another very valuable type-in redirection URL. Note again the use of two short real words, and the high value .com extension.

Oranjestad.tv and Roadtown.tv - Oranjestad is the capital and most important city in Aruba. Aruba is a hugely popular tourist destination, and Oranjestad attracts wealthy shoppers at its many malls, boutiques, and shops. Roadtown is the capital of the British Virgin Islands, an extremely popular vacation resort. Roadtown boasts restaurants, hotels, charter boats, cruise ships, shops, and more, all catering to wealthy visitors with money to spend. Both of these domains are bets on the convergence of TV and the internet. The .tv extension is not prestigious yet. This is because the morass of hardware and software required to implement internet enabled TV is so complex due to compatibility problems. Consumer demand will drive makers of the required equipment and software to adopt standards that make the components easier to integrate. At this point, internet enabled TV may become standard fare, just like the telephone or the radio. Domains like Oranjestad.tv and Roadtown.tv could then become very valuable, since these locations attract so many well heeled tourists. A site owner could place informational content on them like local news, restaurant guides, descriptions of and directions to main attractions, etc., and charge high fees for ad placements. Visitors staying at hotels in these locations, as well as people considering a vacation there, would naturally navigate to domains with these names on their internet enabled TV's, as they are authoritative sounding and easy to type in. An especially attractive feature of both of these domains is they contain only a single word.

SexNoveller.mobi - This is another play on the future, although not as speculative as OpticalRam.com. "Sex Noveller" is Scandinavian for "Sex Novel." While the .mobi extension is not yet of high prestige, it will become more so as portable computing becomes more powerful and commonplace. I'm placing a bet that some portable devices with internet connectivity will eventually have high contrast viewing screens for book reading (like the Sony Reader or Amazon Kindle). If this occurs, a web site with this name would be like a killer app if the content (paid eBook downloads) and functionality were up to par. Sex related domains are some of the busiest on the internet, and are especially easy to commercialize with a good domain name and high quality content. As usual, note the use of two real words (non English in this case), and an extension with high potential future prestige. As a side note, the domain Sexnoveller.se (.se is the extension for Swedish domains) sold at a Sedo.com auction about 18 months ago for $17,000 USD. Not bad.

I could go on with other examples, but I think you get the idea. The important principles to take away are:

Speculate, but don't speculate wildly. You should have a sound, logical basis for believing that your domain may have real future value.

Keep things short. Your domain name should be easy to type in, and two word domains should contain at most one long word.

Focus on extensions that are currently highly prized, or have reasonable expectations of having high future prestige.

Find the right balance between focus and broadness. Your domain should be specific enough so it instantly communicates what the site is about (focus), but not be so topically narrow that it would attract few visitors (broadness). These are the kind of domains buyers will pay up for, especially if they can be easily monetized via e-commerce or paid ad placement.

In Closing

I hope this discussion has been of some help to you in focusing your strategy for domain acquisition and resale. As mentioned several times, this approach is hardly the last word on the subject, and there are other approaches that have equal merit. Whatever approach you ultimately settle on, it's most important to look at the realities of the internet domain marketplace. You need to employ a strategy that permits acquisition at reasonable prices (mainly unregistered domains), focus on types of unregistered domains where you can actually build a portfolio over time (two word domains as opposed to one word), and hone in on short domain names that can easily be monetized (at least possibly in the future).

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

If you own a small business and wish to have a web presence or you are looking to setup an online business from scratch, you need to go through the domain registering process.

But what if you do not have a business and still wish to make money online?

Yes, it's possible. All you need is to register your domain name and have a website and you're ready to step into the world of affiliate marketing by selling someone else's products.

Whether you are setting up a business website or a website to make money online through affiliate marketing, information products or any other internet business model, there are a few crucial steps you should follow.

Nowadays, registering a domain name has become quite simple. However, there are three things that you should keep in mind.

1. Choosing a Name for Domain Registering: Choose a relevant domain name. For instance, URLs like petsmart.com, gardenguide.com or etoys.com tell you instantly what the business is about. Opt for short names that are easy to remember. You could go to sites like cheapdomainsfromscratch.com to select a domain name. If you are getting your domain based on your company name, this will obviously make it easy for you to setup personalised company emails etc. But, even if you a well established business, chances are not may people will be searching for your company name in Google or Yahoo. They may be searching for keywords like "outdoor fitness", so register a domain like "outdoorfitness.com" for example, will make it far more recognisable. This makes it easy for people to see that your website may meet their needs. Keep in mind, that you can always point a domain like this to a specific page on your company website, if you don't want multiple websites.

2. Registering a Domain Name: There are many sites, like cheapdomainsfromscratch.com, that offer very cheap domain registering services. This makes it very easy to register domains that are specific to your product or service offering. Registering a locally based website URL, like .com.au or ,co.ca could work well for you if you are a locally based business, but preferably, having a .com website will be the best option. If you are selling information products or anything that has a global audience, then certainly a .com domain will be best. Look out for the specials that are offered as part of domain purchasing, because you could also get a great deal on hosting your website.

3. Make your Domain Registering Search Friendly: Ensure that you register your domain name for at least three years, as this will add credibility to your website. The longer the duration, the more search engine friendly your website is. The longest period for domain registration is ten years. Getting registered with a reputed registrar will add to the trustworthiness of your website. Making sure that you use keywords relating to your business market or your online niche audience will also help with natural search rankings. From the example above, if you are targeting outdoor fitness training, do some keyword research using Google's keyword tool. Find the top ranking keywords in your niche and try to build website URL combinations that use these keywords. Submit these combinations into a domain search, like the one of cheapdomainsfromscratch.com. For example, outdoorfitness.com, outdoorfitnesstraining.com, outdoorfittraining.com, until you find one that is not already registered.

Once you have brought your domain name, you want to set it up to point to a set hosting, that you may already have, or you can point it to an affiliate link. Either way, if you are not sure what to do next, the support staff at the domain registrar will be able to help you point the new domain to the correct location.

From being the company URL, domain names are today part of the corporate online brand with an IP value worth thousands of Euros. I have earlier recommended 5 steps to improve your domain name management. In the following there is an explicit explanation of the 1st step. To see all 5 steps go to our website in the News section: 5 tips to streamline your domain portfolio.

Step 1: Obtain an overview of domains registered by you - and domains where you should be the rightful owner.

Company domains can be registered by several persons in the company through different registrars. If an employee leaves, it is common that domains are lost when up for renewal. I experience very often that contact persons when leaving a company forgets to inform the other employees about domain names hosted with us and it is only discovered when contacting the company.

Anyway, to find out which domains are registered by your company I would recommend you to see an ear.

Here you can test for specific WHOIS details or part of a domain name. It can be quite a detective work, but I recommend you to search for company name, part of domain name and contact persons in the company and a clearer picture will show.

It is possible that your trademarks are used in domains registered by 3rd parties such as your local business partners and domain pirates. Make sure that you become the rightful registrant. You should contact your business partners to hand over the domains. Domain pirate cases should be evaluated from case to case.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Christopher_Hofman

Domain Name Registration-Do's and Dont's

By Sherif Ramadan

Registering a domain name on the internet these days is becoming an extremely difficult process as there are millions of top level domains (that's .com, .net, .org, etc...) that are already filling up. This makes it extremely hard to find a good domain name that's short, easy to remember, and relates to your website, business, or product.

There is a method of elimination that you can use to reduce the amount of time you spend thinking up new domain names. This involves completely eliminating the excess word standard many have come to rely on lately. I've seen domain names like bobsawesometemplates.com or thenonstopviralmarketingformula.com. Now, domain names like these might be widely available and can easily be registered for dirt cheap prices, but what are the chances anyone will ever remember them or visit them frequently?

* Don't Use More Than Three Words in Your Domain Name

You need a domain name that's right for you, but also makes that short and sweet statement that the majority tends to memorize and spread like wildfire. Names like youtube, myspace, howstuffworks, istock, yahoo, and google all have one thing in common. They don't exceed the three word limit!

Many domain registration sites like godaddy and register offer alternative name suggestions when you search for your desired domain name. These are scripts that use English dictionaries to process synonyms or antonyms of words you used in your domain name search. If the domain name you searched for isn't available it would suggest other similar domain names that are available for registration. These can be great tools to help you brainstorm for a domain name.

However, nothing beats the human intellect in finding creative and suitable domain names. What you should do is begin by jotting down all the words that relate to your website, business, or product. Then start highlighting the most relevant words. For example, if you run a website about dating highlight the words dating, men, or women. Whatever your website is more focused on. Get into specifics. Instead of words you'll begin to form key phrases. Gather all of these phrases on separate flash cards. Write the most direct ones in red ink or using a magic marker. Then write the more indirect ones in green.

An indirect keyword or phrase would be one that does not tell anything about what your website or business offers, but rather what it is. For example, if your website is a dating portal or a personals site than those are your indirect phrases. Your direct phrases could be "free online profiles" or "find women in Boston". This is because people more closely relate to what you offer as opposed to who you are. What grabs people to niche sites is the specific and direct manner by which they present themselves.

Now you should sort through all your red and green phrases and pick the best ones. Remember you should not go above three word limit and try to keep each word short. Use synonym dictionaries or search related words through a word processing program or website and pick the shortest ones. There are lots of free online dictionaries that can help you do this and Merriam Webster’s online dictionary service has some great tools to give you extensive charts of related or rhyming words.

* Don't Hyphenate Your Domain Name

Also avoid using hyphens between words. People with domain names like real-life-advice.com are often forgotten, because the brain tends to ignore symbols and focus more on letters when associating your memories with names. There has been numerous times when I could remember the name of a website, but when I entered the URL into my browser I landed at a different site. I was puzzled. Then later I realized the name was correct, but I forgot a hyphen or two somewhere between the words. This can be confusing, but if you must use a hyphen try to limit the domain name to only two words and use only one hyphen between each word.

I understand sometimes a domain name can be too appealing to resist and the actual words are already registered so people tend to use hyphens to still keep the same name. This is not the biggest "don’t" of domain name registration, but it generally does degrade the effectiveness of your domain name.

* Don't Use Numbers in Your Domain Name

People are also using a lot more numbers in their domain names lately. Believe it or not I've actually seen websites where the entire domain name is a number. In some parts of Mexico businesses register their domain names as their phone numbers under a cTLD. I don't know about you, but I have trouble memorizing my own phone number and with so many numbers already jogging in my mind there's no need to associate websites with digits.

Today people have more than one phone number. When I'm swapping business cards with others I almost always see a mobile or cell phone number plus their office number, fax number, and some times even a home phone number on the card. If I wanted to remember more numbers on the Internet all I have to do is resolve the IP addresses of all the domain names I already know and memorize that, which defies the purpose of the DNS in the first place. If you plan on registering your domain name as a number you might as-well not register one and use a static IP address from your web provider instead.

So now let’s talk about the Do's of picking a domain name.

* Pick Domain Names That Are Similar to Other Popular Domain Names

While some of you might think this is a bad thing it actually might work out to your benefit. How many websites do you know of today that use the words myspace at the beginning or end of their domain name? Even if your websites aren't necessarily related the "hit and miss browsers" will give you the advantage of free traffic.

Hit and miss browsers are people who either accidentally or intentionally type in the domain name of popular websites using alternatives and misspellings. Sometimes people just want to see if the name has been registered or if a similar website exists. Other times they may mistakenly omit or add an additional letter or two. That's why many webmasters are subscribing for their own ENOM accounts and benefiting from lowered wholesale prices on domain names. More times than not a webmaster - and especially a business - will register other alternatives to their domain names in bulk, including the same domain name under other TLDs such as .biz, .info, .name, .ws, etc...

* Use the Common Web Words

One way to make your domain name more effective is by mixing and matching the "common web words" found in thousands of popular domains. Words like online, web, internet, and 'e' are constantly mixed and matched with the names of their websites to create more alternatives. For example say you want to use the name TomsBlog.com, but that domain name is already taken, you could use the mixing of common web words that people usually associate with websites to come up with alternatives. For example, consider TomsBlogOnline.com, TomsInternetBlog.com, eBlogTom.com, or TomsWebBlog.com.

The important thing is to avoid redundancy and capitalize on short and to-the-point words and phrases that are popular, when choosing a good domain name.

If you're starting a small business and wish to learn more about small business startup, visit the Business-Geek.com website to find affordable small business services.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Sherif_Ramadan

Register a Domain

By Michael Curtis

Do you know how and where to register a domain? Have you ever thought of creating your very own website? It's easier than you think and many people just like you around the world are registering domains and setting up their first website from the comfort of their home.

It is a growing trend these days and a very important one. To have your own website up and running cost very little to set up. But before you can do that, you have to register a domain name first and get hosting.

This website can be used for pleasure or business. The popular social network sites like Face Book and Myspace offer a realistic view of what can be accomplished with a website or a single webpage.

But there is a problem with this when it comes to you as an individual! You don't own the space they give you and you never will. You have to abide by there rules or your site, content, videos, photos, friends, notes, will vanish with one click.

With your own website, you will never have do deal with that. After you register a domain and get hosting for your site, this website will be yours until you decide when to take it down.

The major benefit of owning your own website:

You will be the master of your domain and you do what ever you want. Nobody can tell you what to put on it and nobody can tell you what to take down. That is the power of being a webmaster.

Think about it! You can sell stuff from your website. There is an endless of supply of companies ready to give you products to place on your site that will generate an income for you. The biggest supporter of this is Google Adsense plus thousands other companies.

What is Google AdSense?

Google AdSense is a program developed by Google. It offers webmasters an opportunity to make money from their website. All you have to do is apply for an AdSense publisher account with Google.com. After you're approved, they will give you some special HTML codes to place on your site.

This code will show ads from Google and when a visitor comes to your site clicks on the ads Google will pay you a percentage. It is definitely a great opportunity for individuals with a website. For information on Google AdSense visit their site.

In closing, remember to register a domain is pretty easy, fast and a great way to make your online presents. Your site could be used for fun, pleasure, friend pictures, family wedding photos, a home business, corporate business or just a single page telling people about who you are and what you do.

Searching for a domain name? So where do you think you are going to search domain names available for use? You might have definitely come across websites while checking for available domain name that offer services where you can search for domain names under the titles like 'Check for domain name availability' or 'domain name check' or 'domain lookup'. Think twice before using such services, because not all of them are perfect and their results are not quite reliable. So always search for the availability of domain names in a well known search engine.

The domain names that you once searched for and had been shown available but now when you finally decide to register a domain name you see that it has already been taken and now this leaves you in a state of panic because you have already designed your website with that name and now you need to change this banner you designed emptying your pockets and now imagine repeating the whole process all over again. The domain names that you search for could be immediately registered and even a delay of couple of days could prove disastrous for your website and could lead to you compromising for your website title which would be the identity for your website for a given period of time.

While registering for domain names care should be taken that the website name should be registered first and then the website name should be embedded in the website. This could save a lot of time and efforts. After registering a domain name you could select one of the web hosting companies of your choice and then host your website. Now at least you can rest assured that your website has a fixed name and you could use that name in your website titles and banners without worrying about it being taken away. This is just a precautionary measure, not that each and every one who doesn't purchase domain name first is affected by it.

The domain name if taken could be acquired once again when its validity expires. A domain name is registered by a webmaster for a fixed period of time and if he would like to own it again he needs to renew his domain registration once again. The webmaster is notified through email close to the date of expiry of his domain name so that he could renew his domain name well before it gets expired and if he fails to do so, his domain name expires and is made available for other webmasters to acquire

If you are reluctant towards losing the domain name of your choice and would not like to compromise over your website name, you could find out who currently owns the website name you liked your website should have and then find out whether the owner of the domain name would like to sell it you. Of course you will have to shell out a few more dollars as per the domain owner's demand.
