1. Hadrat Allama Mulla Ali Qari Rahmatullahi Ta'ala Alayh narrating the routine of the people of Madina Munawwarah writes,

“The people of Madina Munawwarah (May ALLLAH have Mercy on them) used to arrange and attend mawlid gatherings with great enthusiasm and sincerity on the occasion of Mawlid Sharif.” [Mawrid ar-Rawi Fi Mawlid an-Nabawi, Page 29]

2. Ibn Jauzi Rahmatullahi Ta'ala Alayh says:

"People of Haramain Sharifayn (Makkah Mukarramah and Madinah Munawwarah) and Egypt and Yemen and Syria and of the eastern and western cities of Arabia hold functions in celebration of the birth of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam), they rejoice at the sighting of the moon of Rabi al-Awwal, bathe and put on their best dresses adorn themselves in various ways, put on scent, and give alms with great joy, and exert themselves in listening to the Mawlid of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam). By doing so, they themselves attain to success, as it has been proved that by celebrating the Mawlid of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) much good accrues the whole year round, security and comfort, greater means of livelihood, increase in children and in wealth, peace in cities and contentment and peace in homes."

Gatherings of Mawlid an-Nabi SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam was switched to Prose in 3rd/4th Hijri then 700 years back from today, A pious and virtuous person named Umer bin Mullah Muhammad Mousli Alaihir RaHma established it on regular basis. Following him the great commander Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi’s dearly loved Sultan Arbal Malik Abu Saeed Muzaffar al-Din celebrated Mawlid an-Nabi officially. Ibn-e-Khalqaan Arabali Sha’fai was eyewitness of that festival.
4. According to “Tarikh-e-Mar’at az-Zaman” billion of rupees were used to spend on those festivities. In the beginning of 7th Century of Hijri Calendar; Great Scholar named Abul Khattab Umer Bin Hasan dah’hia Qalbi Andalusi Balansi wrote a book on the topic Milad an-Nabi SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam named “At-Tanveer Fi Mawlid as-Siraj al-Muneer”. In 1207, He went to Sultan Arbal’s castle and presented his book on Mawlid to him, for which he was awarded thousand Gold Coins from Sultan. This was the status and respect of Mawlid Shareef in hearts of earlier leaders of Islam.
5. Not only Sultan Arbal, King of Egypt celebrated the Mawlid Shareef; Allama Ibne Juzri Alaihir RaHma is one the eyewitnesses. For the celebration of this festival 1000 Mithqal of Gold was spent on it. Sultan Abu Hamu Musa Talamsani and earlier rulers of Aqsa and Andalus used to Celebrate Mawlid an-Nabi SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. Abdullah Tonsi Summa Talamsani has written the details of these festivals in his book “Raah al-Arwah”.

8. In "Fuyudh al-Haramain", Shah Waliullah Alaihir RaHma has pointed out,
“The birth of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) was celebrated by the people of Makkah who received blessings on account of it.”
9. The Al-Qibla Newspaper of Makkah al-Mukarrama witnesses:

On the eve of Mawlid an-Nabi SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam celebrations are observed in Makkah and dwellers of Makkah name this day as Youm al-Eid Mawlid ar-Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. People use to cook food. Ameer of Makkah and Commander of Hijaz with their army use to visit birthplace of Prophet Peace be Upon Him and recites Qasida there. Rows of shining candles are positioned from Haram al-Makki to Birthplace and Shops and Houses on the way are also decorated. People use to recite Qasaid whole day at Birthplace. On the night of 11th Rabi al-Awwal after Isha, Mawlid Gathering is organized. From Maghrib prayer of 11th Rabi al Awwal to Asar Prayer of 12th Rabi al Awwal, after every prayer Salutations of 21 tanks is presented.

Muslim girl attacked for wearing hijab

An 11-year-old Muslim schoolgirl has been subjected to a horrific racist assault by a group of older white girls in Surrey just because she was wearing headscarf.
Surrey Police stated that the little Muslim girl who was waiting for the bus was “targeted during a racially aggravated assault” in Sunbury-on-Thames.

The group of suspects had kicked the schoolgirl in the leg and the back and pulled her rucksack off her back before pushing her to the floor. As the Muslim girl was lying on the floor, the white girls drew on her face with make-up and racially abused her, Surrey Police added.

Detective Constable Simon Egan, leading the investigation into the racist attack, considered the incident as appalling where a young victim was subjected to an “unprovoked attack.”

“It would seem that suspects targeted the victim for no reason other than because she was wearing a headscarf and serious offences of this nature will not be tolerated by Surrey Police,” Egan said.

While appealing for witnesses, Egan urged any pedestrians or motorists who saw the incident to come forward as the assault had happened at the side of a busy road in broad daylight.

This was not the first act of violence against a Muslim woman in Britain, but dozens of similar incidents took place on Muslim women because they refuse to take off their hijab. The British government has been running anti-hijab campaign and supporting the spread of Islamophobic agenda in the country to limit the Muslim community.

In fact, early 2012 is going to be a wonderful time to watch the planets. More than wonderful! Amazing! Begin looking for planets now, and you have several months of planet-watching heaven ahead. Venus and Jupiter are the sky’s two most brilliant planets. In January 2012, they are the first “stars” to pop out at evening dusk. You might not be able to resist wishing on them. The fact is that Venus and Jupiter both shine more brilliantly than any star. They rank as the third-brightest and fourth-brightest celestial bodies to light up the sky, after the sun and moon. Mars is rising late at night in January 2012! Plus it’s getting much brighter. Mars rises over the eastern horizon around 10 to 11 p.m. in early January, and around mid-evening by the month’s end. Morning planets in January: Mercury (early in month), Mars and Saturn
Mercury pops up briefly in the east before sunrise in early January 2012, but this world is low in the sky as seen from across Earth’s globe and, for all practical purposes, falls back into the glare of sunrise by about the second week of January.
Mars is highest in the sky before dawn in January 2012 – although you might glimpse it at late evening now, low in the east. Before dawn is the best time to see Mars, however, for that’s when the red planet appears highest in the sky. Mars transits – that is, reaches its highest point in the sky – around 5 a.m. in early January and 3 a.m. by the end of the month.

The best time in two years to see Mars is nearly here, and excitement is beginning to build as Mars brightens in our sky. Mars starts to retrograde (move westward) toward the star Regulus in the constellation Leo on January 24, at which time Mars brightens into one of the most brilliant “stars” in the nighttime sky.
Mars will come closest to Earth for this two-year period and shine most brightly in our sky in early March 2012. This is the wonderful Martian opposition, which takes place when Earth flies between this outer planet and the sun. Although this 2012 opposition will be a rather distant one for Mars, any Martian opposition is a grand event. It’s when we remember why we love this planet! So be sure to watch for Mars.
Use the moon to help you be sure you’ve found Mars, beginning around January 11. The moon will be shining close to the star Regulus on January 11, and close to Mars on January 12 and 13.

Moon by the star Spica and planet Saturn before dawn on Monday, January 16

Saturn, the least conspicuous of the visible planets, rises at around 1 to 2 a.m. in early January 2012 (at mid-northern latitudes). By the end of the month, Saturn is rising around midnight. If you have a level horizon east and west, you can see Jupiter sitting low in the west as Saturn is rising in the east. Saturn appears highest in the sky at or near dawn.
Saturn isn’t as dazzling as Venus or Jupiter. It’s not as exciting as Mars or Mercury. In fact, early stargazers used to call Saturn “the oldest of the old sheep.” Thank goodness Saturn is fairly close to Virgo’s brightest star, Spica now.
Use the moon to be sure you’ve identified Saturn and to see the beautiful pairing of the half-lit waning quarter moon with Saturn and Spica before dawn on January 16.

Bottom line: Excitement is building with respect to planets in Earth’s sky. Jupiter and Venus are edging toward a spectacular conjunction in March 2012. Mars is getting bright and will also be at its best in March! This month, two planets – Venus and Jupiter – conspicuously stage themselves in the January 2012 evening sky, while Mars and Saturn more modestly display themselves in the predawn sky. Mercury, the shyest of the five visible planets, shows itself before sunrise in early January 2012, then becomes lost in the glare of the sun.

Mother's love
This is a true story of Mother’s Sacrifice during the Japan Earthquake.

After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks.
But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure.

He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman.

Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement,” A child! There is a child! “

The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3 months old little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mother’s dead body. Obviously, the woman had made an ultimate sacrifice for saving her son.

When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up.

The medical doctor came quickly to exam the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cell phone inside the blanket.

There was a text message on the screen. It said,” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” This cell phone was passing around from one hand to another. Every body that read the message wept. ” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” Such is the mother’s love for her child!!

Paradise and Hell

Paradise and Hell-fire disputed together, and Hell-fire said: In me are the mighty and the haughty. Paradise said: In me are the weak and the poor. So Allah judged between them, [saying]: You are Paradise, My mercy; through you I show mercy to those I wish. And you are Hell-fire, My punishment; through you I punish those I wish, and it is incumbent upon Me that each of you shall have its fill.

It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi).

Upon this Bushair ibn Ka'b said: Verily we find in certain books or books of (wisdom) that it is God-inspired peace of mind or sobriety for the sake of Allah and there is also a weakness in it. Imran was so much enraged that his eyes became red and he said: I am narrating to you the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and you are contradicting it. He (the narrator) said: Imran reported the hadith, He (the narrator .

Why is my heart sadder today than ever before?
لوں لوں وچ شوق چنگیری اے
Why does longing penetrate every tissue of mine?
اج نیناں لائیاں کیوں جھڑیاں
And why are the eyes shedding tears like a shower of rain?

الطیف سری من طلعتہ
His shining face appeared to me in a vision,
والشذ و بدی من وفرتہ
And fragrance emanated in profusion from His tresses;
فسکرت ھنا من نظرتہ
I fainted from the sight of these visions;
نیناں دیاں فوجاں سر چڑھیاں
The hordes of his eyes overpowered me.

مکھ چند بدر شعشانی اے
His face shines like the full moon;
متھے چمکدی لاٹ نورانی اے
A brilliant light radiates from his brow;
کالی زلف تے اکھ مستانی اے
مخمور اکھیں ہن مدھ بھریاں
His hair is black, and his eyes are bewitching and intoxicated.

دو ابرو قوس مثال دسن
His two eye-brows are like cross-bows,
جیں تھیں نوک مژہ دے تیر چھٹن
Hurling darts of pointed eye-lashes (in all directions);
لباں سرخ آکھاں کہ لعل یمن
His lips are red like rubies of Yemen;
چٹے دند موتی دیاں ہن لڑیاں
His white teeth like a string of pearls.

اس صورت نوں میں جان آکھاں
I am not sure whether I should call his face the essence of life;
جانان کہ جان جہان آکھاں
Or life of the entire universe;
سچ آکھاں تے رب دی شان آکھاں
The truth is that it is (like) the glory of God,
جس شان تو شاناں سب بنیاں
From which all other (worldly) glories originated,
This face (of the Prophet) emerged from the Faceless One (i.e., Allah);
بے صورت ظاہر صورت تھیں

The Faceless One manifests Himself through this face.
بے رنگ دسے اس مورت تھیں

The Colourless (Reality) has been revealing itself through this image,
وچ وحدت پھٹیاں جد گھڑیاں
Ever since Unity exploded into Diversity.

دسے صورت راہ بے صورت دا

It is this face (of the Holy Prophet) that guides (mankind) to the path of Faceless One (i.e., Allah);
توبہ راہ کی عین حقیقت دا

Nay (not the path only but) to the Ultimate Reality Itself.
پر کم نہیں بے سوجھت دا

However, understanding this (secret) is beyond the capacity of the simpleton;
کوئی ورلیاں موتی لے تریاں
Only the select few succeed in discovering and capturing the Pearl (of Truth).

ایہا صورت شالا پیش نظر
May this Face (of the Holy Prophet) remain before my eyes,
رہے وقت نزع تے روز حشر
In my last moments (of life) and on the Resurrection Day!
وچ قبر تے پل تھیں جد ہوسی گذر
Then (also) in my grave, and at the time of crossing the (razor-sharp) Bridge (on the Judgment Day as a test to separate the virtuous ones from the sinners);
سب کھوٹیاں تھیں سن تد کھریاں
Only then shall the fake ones become pure (in the sight of Allah).

یعطیک ربک داس تساں
Thou (O Holy Prophet) hast been blessed (by Allah) with the promise to grant thy desire (in full);

And we (thy humble followers) have full faith in Allah's assurance that thou shalt be happy with the Bounty of Allah. [Note: Reference here is to verse 5 of Surah XCIII of the Holy Quran: "And presently (i.e., in the Hereafter, as also in this world) thy Lord shall grant unto thee (O Prophet ! rich and abundant reward) so that thou shalt be well-pleased].
لج پال کریسی پاس اساں
The Gracious One (we hope) shall declare us successful (in the test of earthly life);
واشفع تشفع صحیح پڑھیاں
Because we have correctly understood the Divine words: "Intercede and thy intercession shall be accepted". [Note: Here the reference is to the Prophet's divinely inspired hadith (hadith-e-Qudsi)in which Allah reassures the Prophet with the words i.e., his intercession for the forgiveness of sinning believers shall be accepted by Allah on the Judgment Day].

لاہو مکھ تو مخطط برد یمن
Be gracious enough to remove from thy face the sheet of Yemen (O Prophet !),
من بھانوری جھلک دکھلاو سجن
And grant us a glimpse of thy endearing face.
اوہا مٹھیاں گالیں الاو مٹھن
Repeat once again those sweet words,
جو حمرا وادی سن کریاں
Which thou hadst uttered in the valley of Hamra.

حجرے توں مسجد آو ڈھولن
Come (once again) from thy cell to Mosque,
نوری جھات دے کارن سارے سکن
For everyone longs for a glimpse of thy image full of light;
دو جگ اکھیاں راہ دا فرش کرن
(And) denizens of both the worlds (i.e., this world and the Hereafter) are laying their eyes in thy path -
سب انس و ملک حوراں پریاں
Human beings, angels, the houris and the fairies.

انہاں سکدیاں تے کرلاندیاں تے
For the ones yearning and pining (for a glimpse of thine);
لکھ واری صدقے جاندیاں تے
Who are ready to sacrifice (their lives) for thy sake;
انہاں بردیاں مفت وکاندیاں تے
For these slaves ready to sell themselves out without any price (in thy path);
شالا آون وت وی اوھ گھڑیاں
May those moments of bliss come back once again!

Effect of food on our emotions!!

It was finally clarified that the type of food affects the emotional status of the human being and some processed types may cause diseases. …

In the modern era, the scientists start to invent new techniques of food processing, and the food styles the people follow had changed. The scientists had not realized that such new styles would harm people as the percentage of physical and psychological diseases had increased because of processed foods.

But if we revert to the Holy Quran, we will find the divine order for people to eat the lawful foods which Allah, the Almighty Had created for them. He says: "O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism)! Eat of the lawful things that we have provided you with, and be grateful to Allâh, if it is indeed He Whom you worship" (172: Al Baqara). Therefore, the scientists confirm that the best type of food is what we find ready in the nature before the human hand poison it!

A study, conducted by a research team at College London, had concluded the possibility of having relationship between depression and consumption of processed foods as people who consume larger amounts of vegetables, fruits and fish are less exposed to depression.

The team who conducted the research says that this is the first time the relationship between depression and diet is being watched in Britain. The data of the diet of 3500 persons at the middle age were studied and then compared with the cases of depression after five years as published in the British Journal of Psychiatry. The people participated in the study were classified into two groups: first group's diet depends on vegetables, fruits and fish, and the second group's diet depends on processed and fatty foods.

Do not eat processed and junk foods! This is the newest advice given to you by the Nutritionists. Studies verified that canned meat products and foods containing preservatives and ready to eat meals (like Hamburgers, etc) have harmful effects on the person's emotional status, so if you want to enjoy emotional stability and quietness, have physical health and live longer you have to stay away from these foods.

It was verified through this study that the percentage of depression in people who had larger amounts of natural foods is 26% less than people who had processed foods like Mortadella, Hamburgers and Junk foods, on the other hand, the percentage of depression among people consuming larger amounts of processed foods is 58% higher than people who consumed less amounts of these foods.

The scientists says that there is a research which concluded that people following the Mediterranean diet are less exposed to depression, also there are many researches that connect between the type of diet and the diseases of the humans.

A message to the Muslim Doctors...

Dear beloved in Allah! The non-Muslim scientists do not have a solid base to refer to in their experiments, therefore, you find that theories change and develop from time to time. But what distinguish us as Muslims is that we have a Holy Book which has clarification for everything and Allah, the Almighty, had explained to us many things that are connected to our physical and emotional health.

Many scientific studies had confirmed that the best types of foods are the foods that Allah Had created in this nature, especially fruits, cereals and meat, the scientists say that the person who concentrate on fruits in his diet is more capable of handling emotional stress and more calm, therefore some researchers suggest larger intake of fruits as a remedy for stress management! So, we have to thank Allah for His great blessings as He said: "And the earth: He has put down (laid) for the creatures* Therein are fruits and date-palms producing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing dates)* And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants* Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?" (10-13 Al Rahman).

I would like to suggest to the Muslim scientists, why don't you do such experiments to prove to the whole world the truth of this great religion:

1. Prove that the one who depends on the Islamic diet is healthier than others. This means to do experiments on Muslim people who do not eat pork and eat meat slaughtered by the Islamic way and on the other side do the same experiments on non Muslims who do not apply these rules.

2. Prove that the person who eat more dates, honey and olive oil, which are the main foods, mentioned in the Quran, is healthier than the average person who does not apply this food system. And that this food affects the emotional status making the person more stable.

3. Prove that the one who eats with his right hand and have Allah's name mentioned on the food will be healthier than the one who do not mention Allah's name or eat with his right hand.

As a Muslim, I believe that the foods mentioned in the Quran: olive, fig, dates, grapes, pomegranate, honey… all ensure you much emotional stability and make your immune system more resistant to diseases, especially Heart and cancer diseases. And the Quran emphasizes the importance of eating natural foods, therefore He, the Almighty says: "So eat of the lawful and good food which Allâh has provided for you. And be grateful for the Favour of Allâh, if it is He Whom you worship" (114: Al Nahl).

These are simple and available experiments but need some patience and specialty, and in deed, dear beloved brothers, that if we had a research center, we would hurry in applying thousands of Islamic experiments which are ignored by the western scientists, all of which are developed from Quran and Sunnah. We hope that such experiments will be a tool for showing the greatness of Islam religion, also showing the miracles of the Quran.

We ask Allah, the Almighty, to subject, to perform such work, those whom He loves and approves, He is the capable of responding to us, as He says: "We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur’ân) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things? (53-54: Fussilat).

Pork meat labelled as Halal!!

CAPE TOWN – A South Africa-based meat supplier is reportedly labeling pork as halal to sell to the country’s Muslim minority, sparking fury in the heavyweight African state.

“Evidence came to our attention that the Orion Cold Storage Company in Cape Town has been importing pork products from Belgium and Ireland, relabeling them as halal sheep and veal products,” Maulana Saeed Navlakhi, of the SA Meat Industry Company (Samic) told VOC.

He said that the company is also accused of relabeling kangaroo meat from Australia and buffalo meat from India as halal.

“At this stage, we don’t have enough information on how far reaching the impact of this alleged practise is,” he said.

“But we can only imagine that the ramifications will be massive since this is a very large importer and distributor of products, both in South Africa and Southern Africa.”

Islam considers **** unclean because they are omnivorous, not discerning between meat or vegetation in their natural dietary habits unlike cows and sheep for instance, which eat only plants.

Muslims do not eat pork and consider *** and their meat filthy and unhealthy to eat.

The concept of halal, — meaning permissible in Arabic — has traditionally been applied to food.

Muslims should only eat meat from livestock slaughtered by a sharp knife from their necks, and the name of Allah, the Arabic word for God, must be mentioned.

Now other goods and services can also be certified as halal, including cosmetics, clothing, pharmaceuticals and financial services.

Iceberg

Navlakhi said that the allegation is the “iceberg” of a larger scandal.

This was merely the “tip of the iceberg and only Allah knows how long this has been happening,” he said.

Maulana Igsaan Hendricks, the president of the Muslim Judicial Council, which issues halal certificates, agrees.

“At this stage, we don’t have know all the details yet, so it is too early to comment, but there have been genuine concerns about this company,” he said.

He said the council will launch an internal probe into the scandal.

“This issue affects all Muslims and an investigation is imperative. This is why we will be working with Sanha (South African National Halal Industry) and others to get to the bottom of the matter.”

The Cape Town-based company, however, denies the allegations, describing the claims as a smear campaign by rival businesses.

It, however, acknowledged that some pork may have been labeled halal.

The company alleged that its rivals paid some of its employees to switch products and labels before being loaded on to trucks destined for South Africa’s main province, Gauteng.

Muslims make up to 1.5 percent of South Africa’s 44-million population, according to 2001 census.

Hadhrat Urwa bin Ruwaym reports that Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Qurt Thumaali[r.a] who was a companion of Rasulullaah [s.a.w] was appointed governor by
Hadhrat Umar [r.a]. He was patrolling the streets of Hims one night when he

passed by a bride in front of whom people were lighting several fires. Hadhrat
Abdullaah [r.a] started hitting the people with his whip until they all dispersed.
The next morning he sat on his pulpit and after duly praising Allaah, he said,
"When Abu Jandalah [r.a] married Umaamah [r.a], he prepared some
handfuls of food (as a Waleemah) for (his marriage to) her. May Allaah shower
His compassion on Abu Jandalah [r.a]and may He shower His special mercies
on Umaamah [r.a]. May Allaah however curse your wedding of last night!
The people were lighting fires and imitating the Kuffaar whereas Allaah has
extinguished their light."

Thousands of Muazzins in Indonesia begin Reciting the Azaan. The Process Advances towards West Indonesia.
one & half Hours After the Azaan has been completed in Saibil, it echoes in Jakarta. Sumatra then follows suit & before this Auspicious process of calling Azaan ends in indonesia, it has already begun in Malaysia. Burma & china is next in line.
With an hour of its beginning in Jakarta, it reaches Dacca, the capital city of Bangladesh.
After Bangladesh, it has already prevailed in Western India. From Culcutta to Srinagar. it then advances towards Bombay & the environment of the entire India resounds with this proclamation.

Prior to the Azaan Reaching the Shores of the Atlantic, the process od Zohar Azaan has already Started in East Indonesia & before it reaches Dacca, Asar Azaan Has started. This has hardly reached Jakarta one & Half Hours Later, the time of Maghrib becomes due, & no sooner has Maghrib time reached Sumatra, the time for Isha-Azaan has commenced in Saibil! when the Muazzins of Indonesia are calling out Fajar Azaan.

As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard.

Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big 'F' at the top of his papers.

At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise.

Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners... he is a joy to be around..'

His second grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle.'

His third grade teacher wrote, 'His mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best, but his father doesn't show much interest, and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken.'

Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, 'Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and he sometimes sleeps in class.'

By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to say, 'Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to.'

After the children left, she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children.... Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her 'teacher's pets..'

A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that she was the best teacher he ever had in his whole life.

Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in life.

Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honours. He assured Mrs. Thompson that she was still the best and favourite teacher he had ever had in his whole life.

Then four more years passed and yet another letter came.. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and favourite teacher he ever had. But now his name was a little longer.... The letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD.

The story does not end there.
You see, there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said he had met this girl and was going to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit at the wedding in the place that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom.. Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together.

They hugged each other, and Dr. Stoddard whispered in Mrs. Thompson's ear, 'Thank you Mrs. Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference.'

Mrs. Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She said, 'Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you.'
