I get terrible cystic acne along my jaw line and on my neck. I have tried everything from birth control, to over the counter treatments, to prescription creams and gels. Nothing really showed me significant changes in my skin except birth control. After long consideration about the subject I decided I no longer wanted to be on the pill anymore. SOOO that left me wondering what I could do to keep my skin from breaking out constantly. Of course after quitting the pill, over time my skin started breaking out without the hormones from the pill streaming through my system. I started researching at-home natural skin care. I came across a couple articles talking about using honey as a mask for acne. HONEY? I wasn't sold, but I had to try it.

I went to the grocery store soon after and purchased some organic honey. I got home and tried it that night. By the next morning the size of my pimples/cysts were significantly smaller and less red. The pain that comes along with the cystic acne was lessened as well. After 2 nights using the magic honey mask the blemishes on my face were almost completely gone and my skin felt smoother.

HONEY HELPED CLEAR UP MY FACE! Ha Ha. After years and probably thousands of dollars worth of product, a natural, tasty treat was becoming my skin care savior.

From what I read, honey is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It doesn't dry out the skin like over the counter treatments do.

So here's the run down!

What you'll need:
Organic Honey--- I purchased mine at the grocery store. Just make sure it says Organic on the bottle.
A bowl
A Q-Tip or paint brush or fingers, use your own or find a friend! haha :)

Pour 1-2 Tablespoons of honey into a bowl
Microwave for 5-7 seconds to loosen it up, allow it to cool slightly (optional)

Cleanse your face, Pat dry.

*For spot treatment: Apply the honey with a Q-Tip to the blemishes
Leave on for 15-45 minutes
Rinse off with warm water

*For mask: Apply the honey with a paint brush or fingertips focusing on the areas that are acne prone.
Leave on 15-45 minutes
Rinse with warm water

This method may not work for everyone, but it has worked for me. My skin hates me most of the time. I feel very thankful to have found something that is really working and helping me clear things up! :) I also started drinking more water and I have rather healthy eating habits. The more "good stuff" you put in the better your skin will look and the better you'll feel!

Best of luck!
*Heather

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://idiosyncratic-heather.blogspot.com/2010/03/slather-my-face-with-honey-what.html' title='Slather my face with honey? I'm not a professional by any means, but I do like to play with makeup and create new looks. Putting my face on the internet is pretty scary, but here we go!

I have a secret... I do not have clear skin. I have suffered from acne since I was 13. I do wear foundation on a regular basis. I like to think I've become a bit of a magician in regards to covering up blemishes and scars. TA-DA! Those tips and tricks come from a lot of practice. :)

Also, forgive those eyebrows! Ha Ha.

Products I used:
Face
Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer Green (to counter the redness in my skin from acne)
Revlon ColorStay Foundation in 150 Buff (I need full coverage)
Benefit Erase Paste in No. 2 (for dark circles)
Physicians Formula Concealer (for pimples and blemishes)
Almay Clear Complexion Powder in Light 100 (to set foundation and concealer)
MAC Pinch O' Peach blush
L'Oreal Glam Bronze (I use the smallest amount to contour my cheeks, and I don't do that everyday)

Eyes
MAC Painterly paint pot as a base
Sephora eye pencil (It's a bronze copperish color haha)

I used the Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer palatte for this look.

As for brushes, I used a regular flat eyeshadow brush for applying the shadows, then a round, dome shaped brush for the blending into the crease and outer corner.

SOOOOOOO here we go! I used a light sliver on the inner corner, then I applied a darker silver to the middle of the lid blending it into the lighter silver. On the outer corner I applied a dark silver to the outer corner and into the crease above the other colors blending it all together. Then I used a black with a little silver shimmer onto the outer lid and blended that into the crease as well just to add depth and dimension.

For eyeliner I used an angled brush with a black eyeshadow. I wet the brush and got some eyeshadow onto the brush. I am NOT good at winged eyeliner, so it isn't prefect.

I applied Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Charcoal to the waterline.

Add some black mascara and VOILA!

Lips
Lip balm baby! I only own 4 lipsticks and none of them would have worked well with this look. When in doubt, Lip balm it up! I used Carmex today.

I'm not sure how helpful this will be to anyone, but the point of makeup is to have fun, right? GO CRAZY! Enjoy!

Till next time, Thanks for reading!
* Heather

Late night jam session

The house is asleep... I am living in a new world, away from my family with my husband in Kentucky. The best way to preserve memories is to make them permanent. Why not start a blog right? :) The point here is just to share my memories as well as feelings about situations, moments and experiences. I want to throw in some makeup and beauty related stuff also. So yes, let's get into it. I got married March 12, 2010 to my lovely husband Gideon. He is in the military, so that would now make me an Army Wife. HA! Interesting right?? We're planning a big party-like reception/wedding with all of our family later on. I moved out here to lush Kentucky in February. Colorado was home for a long time, but never my true home. I'm not too sure where my true home is. Moving has always been a way to stir things up and keep life on it's toes. I have never been a stranger to moving around. As a kid I moved quite a bit, and I don't believe I have ever disliked a single move. Embarking upon a new set of adventures with my hubby is what I'm looking forward to.

Thanks for reading :)
