CES 2012: Asus prepares notebook with Ivy Bridge

2012-01-13T09:01:00.000-08:00

The new generation mobile platform Intel has signed for the delay. The architecture and Ivy Bridge 22nm engraving is not yet quite ready for commercial launch. This does not preclude Asus to furbish their arms.
The manufacturer took advantage of CES to showcase some of its future designs feature the platform Ivy Bridge. There was thus the evolution of N5, this notebook treated co-authored Bang & Olufsen. It will carry is the third generation of Core processors from Intel and will develop a GeForce last-Cree. The keyboard is backlit and Asus actually been better viewing angles for the screen, a battery life of 2 weeks in standby or a return of sleep in 2 seconds.

Along with this evolution of N5, we could see a brand new laptop from the series G bound players. This is the G55 to look very slightly modified in places. The novelty here is of course the inclusion of Ivy Bridge or the presence of the GeForce 600 series. The screen can either be conventional 3D with 3D Vision active solution, or 3D without glasses, all in 15.6 or 17.3-inch diagonal, as desired.

Windows Phone: Microsoft offers, operators have [Update]

2012-01-08T06:15:00.000-08:00

Windows Phone are the last two days - or perhaps will receive - a system update. The distinction is important in that the deployment is as always at the discretion of operators. These are the only judges of the date of availability to their customers or simply the need to distribute the new software or not.
Precisely on this point, Microsoft said it would detail more the timing of arrival of these updates in these operators in different countries, as he had done for the four previous revisions. There is no explanation of the decline in transparency, if it follows the wider dissemination to the international Windows Phone. Do operators considered unflattering publicity given to them when they were in back of the pack ...?
peoplefirst
Microsoft on his blog drives the point home by pointing out that this update is available "to all operators who request it."
Customers appreciate and slogan Microsoft "Put People First" sounds somewhat like offset in this framework. Most anxious to know when they are available will have to update the watch notification on their phone or to engage in manual updates that are more DIY [via].
This revision (7.10.8107.79) addresses various bugs: the keyboard that could disappear when entering text in sync with Gmail on a bug around the location information (your position on a satellite or cellular network a Wi-Fi) that were sent to Microsoft without the explicit agreement of the user (read Windows Phone: Microsoft denies any geolocation of users) and various things around the mail and voice mail. But it does not fix the bug, however, SMS spotted in mid-December (see Windows Phone 7.5: SMS and boom!).
[Update]: reminder of a reader on how to manually force the update of a terminal WP7.
- Launch Zune without connecting your phone to your computer.- Turn off the WiFi connection and the data on your phone.- Connect your phone to your computer.- Search manually update (Settings, Phone, MAJ).- The search starts.- After three seconds, turn off your WiFi or Ethernet connection.- The update you should be proposed.

Asus Prime Transformer: about Android 4.0 and the bootloader

2012-01-06T10:20:00.000-08:00

Although its availability is still relative, Asus was keen to answer questions from potential customers regarding the arrival of Android 4.0 on the Prime Transformer, as well as concerns about the locked bootloader loaded by default on the shelf.

Featuring new tablet from Asus, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime (see test) should be one of the first market to adopt the latest version of Android, the famous Ice Cream Sandwich. The necessary update is finally delivered on January 12 this year, Asus has promised Tuesday through Facebook. Meanwhile, the manufacturer reports the availability of an intermediate version that he says improves the development of the camera, the fluidity of touch the management of distributed applications through the Android Market.
Asus has also taken advantage of this communication to answer two questions regularly raised by potential customers. The first concerns the disappearance of the mention of certain GPS sales brochures. In this regard, Taiwanese explains that the aluminum hull of the tablet is likely to impair performance in navigation. “To avoid disappointing users request a full GPS, we decided to remove this information from our data products and our marketing publications,” said he.
The second, more difficult, relates to the presence of a bootloader (tool used for loading the system) encrypted, preventing users from installing an alternative version of the operating system on their shelf. “The reason we decided to lock it is due to the requirements of content providers about the Digital Rights Management (DRM),” says Asus, who said he wanted to support the DRM system of Google.
“However, we understand the request of the developer community. Also, Asus is currently creating a tool for unlocking to be proposed to this community, “says the manufacturer, but up to a further delivery date. He stated however that this release will compromise the warranty on the unit and access to the kiosk video rental Google.

Toshiba Satellite C660: another 15.6-inch laptop at the right price / quality ratio

2012-01-02T07:33:00.001-08:00

After Dell two weeks ago, today’s turn to launch a Toshiba laptop quality / attractive price, suited for everyday office use for little more than a netbook.

For the general public, the “Toshiba Satellite C660-220″ follows the same recipe as its American rival: the components of the previous generation in any case (3.6 cm thick and 2.54 kg) 15 format, 6 inches (definition WXGA). Its 6-cell battery would give a range of just over 5 h.

So he sticks to the Arrandale architecture, embodied in this case by an Intel Core i3-370M, including on the one hand a double-heart CPU Hyper-Threading 2.4 GHz and equipped with 3 MB cache, and also a GPU clocked HD Intel GMA 500 to 667 MHz and providing hardware decoding of video.
This is supported by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, the amount of time. Storage is provided by a hard drive at 5400 r / min with a comfortable capacity of 500 GB, a DVD burner and an SD card reader.
The connection is in exchange for relatively poor with only two USB 2.0 ports (no USB 3.0), a VGA output but no HDMI, and Ethernet and Wi-Fi N, but no Bluetooth. The screen is finally topped by a modest VGA webcam.

ZTE and FashionTV and combine to a smartphone

2011-12-30T08:35:00.000-08:00

The Chinese manufacturer ZTE and chain come to formalize a partnership around the smartphone ZTV FTV, primarily for fashion junkies who are not afraid of an outdated version of Android.
The “alliance between fashion and technology,” we already knew the partnership between LG and Prada who has just given birth to a third terminal is already available in South Korea. The pattern is repeated with ZTE and just announce the ZTE FTV, a smartphone which is simply a renamed version of ZTE Blade, released in late 2010.

Apart from the specific content – applications, wallpapers, widgets – and a shell that displays the logo of the channel, the terminal uses the same features as its twin came out a year earlier: 600 Mhz processor, a screen 3.5 inch WVGA AMOLED, 512 MB RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and Android 2.2 Froyo become obsolete since the release of version 2.3 Gingerbread, or more recently from Android 4.0.
ZTE is a small manufacturer based in France today – but slowly starting to happen, especially with the ZTE Skate and Racer II – the chances of seeing the ZTE FTV in hexagon are probably reduced, but this type of unlikely alliance could still develop. and ZTE have not yet provided a release date and price for this model available in 3 colors: black, white and gold.

Eee PC 1225B: renewal for the netbook from Asus

2011-12-29T11:41:00.001-08:00

The “Asus Eee PC 1225B” abandons the aesthetic seashell (shell) in force for some time to open a new case, inspired by the ultra-portable series U, hired both for their finesse and finish. If we are to believe the photos the newcomer would be, like a ultrabook, too thin to accommodate a standard VGA output.
The screen for this purpose from 12.1 to 11.6 inches diagonally, but maintains the definition WXGA (1366 x 768 pixels) and LED backlight.

He inherited, however, the AMD Fusion platform of its predecessor, the Eee PC 1215B, is better. It therefore contains an APU AMD C-60 (double heart to 1.00 GHz and 1 MB cache) with a Radeon HD 6290 or AMD APU E-450 (double heart at 1.65 GHz and 1 MB cache) with Radeon HD 6320, supported by 2 to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. Storage is assigned to a hard drive 320, 500 or 750 GB now, and an SDXC card reader.
The connector houses two USB 3.0 ports, plus a third USB 2.0 port, and there are also an HDMI output, VGA output (through an adapter?), A headphone jack and a separate microphone, a Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi N and Bluetooth 3.0. The webcam stands by a small VGA resolution, while the 1.3 million pixels is democratized.
The “Asus Eee PC 1225B” finally offers a battery life of 7 hours with its battery of 56 Wh 6-cell. It will soon be retail price of 350 euros.

Jingxing S7100: Android tablet dedicated to games

2011-12-23T13:18:00.000-08:00

A company called Jingxing Venus has unveiled the S7100, a touch pad running Android and embedding a battery of buttons designed to orient the side of video games. If the principle is interesting, this tablet shows Chinese still some limitations that may be possible to get around, especially considering its price.
The Venus S7100 could it be the tablet that the Xperia Play is for smartphones, including Android terminal dedicated to the game? If the concept can leave dreamer, he is not certain that the Chinese firm Jingxing book shelf here really at the forefront, particularly in its OS.

Indeed, the site explains Zol the tablet is running an outdated version of Android, namely 2.2 – the latest being the 4.0, which shows full compatibility with the interface shelf. Technically, the tablet 7-inch boarding still an ARM Cortex A9 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM, WiFi connectivity and 2 sensor 2 megapixel camera on the front and rear. Not a word, against, for its storage capacity and the rest of the connector.
The brand’s primary ahead of the tablet’s ability to run games, especially through emulators Playstation or Nintendo 64 – a practice legally questionable. Of course, the games running Android are also present but it will settle for versions that run on smartphones Android 2.2, knowing that the rendering is not always the most effective on a relatively large screen – unless change the version of the OS. To ensure a good grip, the tablet has two pad, a joystick and multiple buttons that make it look like an oddly PS Vita … and this is probably not a coincidence!
This tablet takes a lot to Chinese competition while maintaining its status as a touch pad Android. Its other advantage is its price, since it is found on pre-order sites in China around 110 euros. There is however little chance of such a device actually leaves the land of Asia.

Free Mobile does not get a 4G license

2011-12-23T13:12:00.001-08:00

4G frequencies gold: a faster allocationThe outcome of this second round has been rapid, considering their importance. Unlike the first 4G licenses on the 2.6 GHz band, which ARCEP had delivered its verdict after several months, it only took a few days a week to be precise, to the Authority to assign frequencies so-called "gold "on the 800 MHz band. It must be said that time is short, the mobile network begins to saturate with the democratization of smartphones, using a large bandwidth for Internet browsing.
Free Mobile will be satisfied with homelessnessA fierce battle was announced, was the case. The big loser in this story is called Free Mobile, which did not get lots of frequencies. ARCEP considered that the future mobile operator, to be launched in a few days, did not meet the conditions of accession to the 800 MHz frequencies, namely the commitment to planning, commitment home virtual mobile operators (MVNO) and the amount of money proposed for the frequencies.
Free Mobile will have to settle for homelessness, probably on the SFR network, which was granted two lots on the 800 MHz band. Roaming will be available as soon as Free Mobile reaches 25% coverage of the territory on the 2.6 GHz band, as provided by ARCEP. A seemingly deliberate Free Mobile, which did not seek at all costs these "frequencies or": "We said we would be reasonable, and also indicated that the offer was very unfavorable for a new entrant like us. We have no regrets. If we had thought it was vital for us, we would have been more aggressive, and now we consider that we have everything we need, "has said Maxime Lombardini, chief executive of Iliad Group, parent company of Free.
SFR is the package and allows itself two sets of frequenciesSo the winner of the second round. With two wins in four batches (10 MHz duplex), SFR has the package, contrary to initial licensing 4G where the operator had been rather quiet, with no less than 1.05 billion euros over the table. Orange and Bouygues Telecom share the remaining two lots (10 MHz duplex) with respectively 891 million euros and 683 million euros.
In total, Orange will have spent 1.3 billion euros, 1.2 billion euros SFR, Bouygues Telecom 911 million euros and Free Mobile up the rear with 271 million euros (only for frequencies in the 2.6 GHz band).
The State looks forward to a "complete success"Earlier in the day, the state, through the voice of the Industry Minister Eric Besson, welcomed the "full success" associated with the licensing 4G. It is true that between the frequencies distributed in September and yesterday, the state will reap an additional one billion euros compared to the minimum amount. So close to a whopping 3.5 billion euros (900 million for the 2.6 GHz band and 2.6 billion euros for the 800 MHz band) that the State will win in total. A very nice sum.
It only remains to wait for operators launching their first 4G capable of providing a theoretical transfer rate of 100 Mbit / s (equivalent to the optical fiber). According to some analysts, the first offers should arrive in 2013.

Sharp decline in the popularity of Apple's iPhone in Europe

2011-12-23T13:09:00.000-08:00

After years of supremacy in the world, Apple is beginning to feel the ill effects of economic and concurrency. The facts suggest that the popularity of the firm at the apple begins to descend steeply. Although it is hard to believe, this is not a mere hypothesis. It also shows that the reports published by the firm "Kantar Wordpanel" about iPhone sales during the last quarter. The largest decline was recorded in September with 3.3 million iPhone unsold, and that, compared to the previous quarter.
If Apple Smartphones continue to be popular in England and the United States, it is not at all the case in the rest of Europe. In France, sales of Apple products recorded a fall of 9% in one year, from 29% to 20%. In Germany, sales fell 5% from 27% to 22%. Apple posted the same percentage decline in countries such as Italy or Spain.
Decrease of the Apple iPhone
Many reasons for this slump in sales of smartphones Apple. The limited purchasing power of users leads them to resort to models of lower-priced smartphones. Note that many brands have recently released models whose prices are more responsive to users, to name a tablet Iconia Acer A200 in terms of competitors iPad or Smartphone from HTC or Nokia. Compared to the price of an iPhone, those brands mentioned above are significantly lower. In addition, Android is becoming increasingly important and is extremely efficient.
The growth of competition is also something to do with this decline in sales of iPhone. Indeed, this competition has increased 42% this year alone. Korean giant Samsung has made things worse by releasing its Galaxy S2, which by the way, rivals the iPhone. Considered the finest of the Smartphone world, the Samsung S2 Galaxy is the ultimate smartphone manufactured in Asia. France was one of the favorite targets of Samsung. The amount of the French campaign at its output is estimated at 25 million euros. By running the Smartphone, Samsung did not skimp on the means used to reach the French public. It is therefore quite normal that sales of the Korean company far exceed those of Apple.
The output constantly pushed the iPhone 4S associated with the absence of a highly anticipated iPhone 5 yet was also one of the reasons for the decline in sales. Technophiles and fans of the brand have suffered badly from the long wait and some of them preferred to turn to other models.

These two smartphones will be available in Europe in 2012, a date and price so far unknown.

Motorola patent litigation against Microsoft, mobile phone manufacturers against patent infringing

2011-12-22T14:17:00.000-08:00

In the technology sector, it is customary to tug against each other for patent infringement in court. This time, Microsoft celebrates a point against Motorola success, while the mobile phone manufacturers but was acquitted of six other points.
Not only Apple and Samsung arguing in court, Microsoft is also in dispute with Motorola. The U.S. trade commission ITC considers it proven that Motorola infringes a patent by Microsoft. This is number 6,370,566 and deals with a technique to schedule meetings via smartphones. More specifically, according to Microsoft, the Calendar app. From this it would be possible by using contacts to arrange meetings and times. LG Dusseldorf: 10.1N Galaxy Tab is OK

2011-12-22T14:13:00.000-08:00

The Landgericht Düsseldorf rejected Apple's application for interim injunction against the Galaxy Tab 10.1N. Apple wants to get it banned in Europe, such as N-TV reported. The changes made by Samsung at the device changes were sufficient preliminary assessment, said Judge Joan Brueckner-Hofmann. It differs significantly enough from Apple's design.
A broader context and the larger manufacturer's logo of the Galaxy Tab 10.1N were "something that immediately catches the eye," N-TV quoted the presiding judge. Apple's lawyer was therefore on the other hand, the overall design had remained the same. "If someone wants to offer even a tablet computer in the same market segment and price, but the unit must differ sufficiently."
Galaxy Tab 10.1N (Image: Samsung)Galaxy Tab 10.1N (Image: Samsung)
That the court saw it differently: It came to no so-called "home-deception." Based on the large logo, the Samsung device is to be distinguished unambiguously from the iPad. Finally, Apple and Samsung are "known as the Federal Chancellor."
End of November, Samsung had begun to deliver the modified version of its Android Tablets in Germany. It differs from the original version mainly through two design changes: First, stretches around the new 10-inch tablet a wider metal strip, which extends to the front. Secondly, the position was changed to the speakers, which are now attached to the upper longitudinal side of the case.
A few days later, Apple sought an injunction in District Court Dusseldorf. A complaint should also prevent the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1N in the European Union. His decision is expected on 9, the court Proclaim February.
The Düsseldorf Regional Court had on 9 August at the request of Apple imposed a ban for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 within the European Union except the Netherlands. In September, it confirmed its decision to ban the sale of a limited but on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. Apple accuses Samsung patent infringement and unfair competition. It should have for its iPhone smartphones and tablets of the Galaxy product line and other mobile phones, the user interface and other design elements of Apple's iPad and copied.

Windows Phone: a mobile OS too late?

2011-12-22T11:25:00.000-08:00

While some are willing to gamble on the success of Windows Phone, largely thanks to Nokia smartphones that are and will be equipped, others argue instead that the Microsoft Mobile OS arrives too late to hope to find a place market dominated by Android and iOS. At least if experts from Exane BNP Paribas analysts and Bernstein.

Windows Phone will reach there to be a place on the mobile OS market, largely dominated by Apple and Android? Yes, say some experts, such as IDC analysts Ovum or that build for the OS the software giant a market share of 20% by 2015. But for others, however, it is too late.

For Exane BNP Paribas and Bernstein, whose analysts were interviewed by Reuters, Microsoft has indeed fallen too far behind to hope to compete with its competitors. The Lumia 800, the first Windows phone Nokia smartphone is certainly a quality and efficient, but consumers are too used to the other OS to turn to a new platform palta, they say (On this point, this study seems to deceive seen the excitement generated by the Lumia 800 across Europe, for example)

Today, Windows Phone has only 2% market share, when Android was over 50% and the iPhone has from 15 to 20%. "There is enough room for a third ecosystem," said Pierre Ferragu, an analyst at Bernstein. But while Nokia will market early next year a new mobile phone equipped with Microsoft OS, the Lumia 900, only time will confirm or not these well-pessimistic forecasts.

The iPhone, casualty of the economic crisis

2011-12-22T11:23:00.000-08:00

The economic crisis in Europe spared not the iPhone, back against a fleet of cheaper alternatives, led by the Google Android OS.Combined with the emergence of platforms cheaper alternatives in fact, the effects of the economic crisis in Europe have a significant impact on the iPhone, now far down the face of Android devices. The Old Continent as a whole is idling for two years, as the result of one of the darkest periods it has been financial.
Therefore in the universe IT: the French are gradually moving away Apple products, in favor of compromise generally less expensive.
To believe the study by the firm Kantar Worldpanel Comtech, "the price is a criterion more critical than ever to purchase a mobile phone. "
The democratization of Windows Phone, thanks to the Nokia 800 Lumia, accompanied by a rise in system Android, which the editor, none other than Google, now boasts more than 50% of the smartphone market.
In parallel, the iPhone 4S has generally disappointed in the Hexagon. Sometimes described as unworthy successor or offspring of non-sparking, the unit inducted in October has come to many as the mark of a release, Apple seems to rest on its laurels.
Between early September and late November, the print of the bitten apple has met under the aegis of "only" 20% of new buyers, as against 29% over the same period last year.
Like this, Germany, already resistant to Internet Explorer (Firefox users prefer it), has become the ambassador of a phenomenon that is reflected also in Spain and Italy.
Catalyst passions as litigation drags on his face to Apple, Samsung sells its shovel Galaxy S II. Consequently, 61% of handsets sold in the Rhine during the above-mentioned boarded Android.
A breakthrough that takes the place of perspective. In his own country (the U.S.), the iPhone does not disappoint, with a strong burst of from 25 to 36% of the market. Similar observation in Britain. Hope is always allowed.

MacBook Air

2011-12-22T09:16:00.000-08:00

The new MacBook Air has arrived, and it is much more successful than the Beaujolais. There are the qualities of the brand: impeccable finish, successful design. And many of the shortcomings of the first version of the Air have been fixed: the machine is more powerful, with a low power Core 2 Duo and DDR3 memory, and most importantly, the price is not astronomical. The machine is very portable, excellent autonomy.
We regret all the same connectivity too light, especially with the lack of ethernet port problem. You have to buy many expensive adapters to correct these defects.

LDLC B1

2011-12-22T09:14:00.000-08:00

LDLC offers a range of 15-inch notebook PC, designed and assembled by them. We greatly appreciate their B1, which is really well thought out, and for a record price. It has a very good processor (Core i3 350), an excellent graphics card for movies, correct for the game, 250 GB hard drive. Small regret, only 2 GB of DDR3, but it is easily correctable and inexpensively. He also cited as an asset compatible USB 3, Optimus technology (which enables longer battery life), Wi-Fi N. ..Be careful, there is no OS installed!
