Sinus headaches occur when pressure builds up within the sinus canals, which run between your ears, nose and throat. Sinus symptoms generally begin with a stuffy nose, which can progress into more serious congestion in the upper nasal cavities.

The majority of sinus headache sufferers will also have postnasal drip. Which is a symptom that is as unpleasant as it sounds - the blocked sinuses will release that build up of mucus; which then runs down the back of the throat. Untreated, in time, these symptoms will often lead to that excruciating and throbbing pain, known as a sinus headache.

Sinus headache symptoms should never be ignored. These headaches may indicate that you have a sinus infection which will need to be treated by a physician. Sinus headaches will usually include severe pain around the eyes. That pain will not always remain localized, often spreading down the face. On occasion, some sinus headache sufferers will even experience that same obtrusive pain in their teeth. Sinus headaches are similar in some ways to migraine headache symptoms, in that the sufferer will often experience actual physical tenderness in the areas most affected.

Congestion is usually the first sinus headache symptom to occur, because a sinus headache is a direct result of the pressure placed upon the sinuses when they are overly congested. Therefore, relieving the congestion will often relieve the pain. Sinus headache symptoms are not located in the top or back of the head - as is common for migraines. Maybe sinus headaches ought to be called "face-aches", because that is actually where most of the pain is felt. The sinus cavities run along the cheekbones and forehead, as well as behind the eyes and down the nose. That is why pain might be experienced in any or all of these facial areas. One of the most debilitating sinus headache symptoms for most is experienced behind the eyes - this pain sometimes accompanied by swelling of the eyes.

Sinus headaches symptoms can render a person unable to function - the pressure that builds around the eyes, nose, and cheeks can be extremely painful, and just too much for most people. Even so... The best way to treat a sinus headache is not actually to take an aspirin or lie down - although this may take away the pain for the time, it does not solve the sinus problem.

In this case particularly, prevention is better than cure. So the best thing to do is cut off the headaches at their source. Sometimes, this can be achieved by the use of a good decongestant or steam treatment. However, regular sinus headache symptoms signal that the sinuses are regularly under attack ... and the best way to get relief is to get rid of the attacker!
You will find lots of natural and effective treatment approaches and by being persistent it may be possible to locate one that will help you get rid of your pain. Learn about 4 migraine headache remedies that have be shown to be helpful for a large number of headache sufferers.

There are 2 main categories when it comes to locating an effective migraine headache remedy. Migraine therapies can either be designed to give you instantaneous relief from your symptoms or designed to correct or improve a health disorder which may lead to long term relief. The following four natural treatment techniques can offer both instant and long lasting relief and have proven helpful over time.

1 - Chiropractic care

Chiropractic manipulation has been used for more than one hundred years as a way to stop migraine headaches and alternative kinds of pain or symptoms. Often it only takes one manipulation to eliminate a headache, but with repeated chiropractic adjustments it is frequently possible to put a stop to migraines permanently.

Doctors of chiropractic tell us that vertebral misalignments can irritate spinal nerve roots, inflicting inflammation, muscle tension, disorders such as headache pain, along with other related health problems. Correcting or improving these vertebral misalignments can alleviate headaches and neck pain that are a direct result of the nerve root irritation.

2 - Biofeedback therapy

Another migraine headache remedy is biofeedback and has given impressive results for a large number of years. Body functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, and skin temperature are autonomic functions of the body, meaning your body controls them routinely without any assistance from you.

Biofeedback training is a training program that teaches people how to control and manage these automatic body functions voluntarily. When an individual has learned these skills they are capable of using these biofeedback procedures to cause relaxation of their muscle tissue and in so doing reduce or stop a headache or other symptoms of tension and anxiety.

3 - Find and remove food allergies

Certain foods can produce migraine attacks in some people and are referred to as food or migraine triggers. Finding these food triggers and removing them from the diet is accomplished with the help of a headache journal and is one more excellent migraine headache remedy.

The journal works by keeping track of when you breathe, eat, or drink anything. All chemicals and foods you eat or come into contact with need to be written in the journal. Additionally, you have to make a note of each occasion you experience a migraine headache. Over time it is possible to discover what foods or chemicals are your food triggers.

As soon as you have exposed a food trigger it is a straightforward matter to remove it from your diet or usage. With a small amount of persistence headache sufferers can often discover and remove the reason for their migraines using this tactic. Common food triggers are wheat, avocados, cheese, nuts, caffeine, MSG, and others.

4 - Cold packs

Putting a bag of ice on the back of the neck at the bottom of the skull is one more exceptional migraine headache remedy. The purpose is to reduce the blood flow and thus the pressure within the head. A moist cloth should be positioned between the epidermis and the bag of ice as a protective barrier to prevent the skin from becoming too cold. To boost the effect you can also set your feet in heated water or take a heated bathtub. This can help move the blood away from the head, causing any throbbing head pain to decrease.
After all, migraines are largely attributed to work-related anxiety and stress, which children do not experience. In fact, one out of 10 children in the United States suffers from migraine.

The number of people afflicted with migraine slowly increases through adolescence and generally reaches its peak at about age 44. Many migraine sufferers can experience spontaneous remission, with their headaches going away for good without clear reasons.

Although migraine headaches are considered a benign disease with no long-term attrition, their symptoms - throbbing headaches - could adversely affect a child's quality of life and ability to take part in normal activities that other children of his or her age enjoy. Migraine pain is intensely painful that sufferers, especially children, are hardly able to think or function very well during or immediately after an episode.

This sense of helplessness in the face of the abrupt and sometimes totally unanticipated onset of migraine symptoms can set off a deep emotional toll on the welfare and well-being of young migraine sufferers. Most migraineurs, the term used to describe migraine patients, begin to experience their first attack even before the age of 5. They experience their migraine attack without prior symptoms. They would just suddenly look very ill, highly irritable and intensely sleepy. Aside from headache, migraineurs also experience nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and oversensitivity to light.

Before doctors can confirm their prognosis, they need to rule out other possible symptoms through the usual doctor-patient interview and laboratory tests. An accurate diagnosis is necessary for the doctor to find a treatment for this condition.

The treatment usually consists of uncovering the triggers and avoiding them. Sometimes, all it takes is to allow the child to take a deep restful sleep to relieve the pain. With appropriate diagnosis and treatment, migraine patients can expect to enjoy a good quality of life despite the handicap of a migraine.

The exact causes of migraine are still unknown, although children with migraine are likely to acquire it after a minor trigger, like certain foods. Most migraineurs know their triggers and are likely to avoid them, or they suffer the consequence. The most common triggers are alcohol, chocolate, cheese, nuts, shellfish, Chinese food with MSG, and sugar.

Migraine among children is an issue that cannot be taken for granted by parents and the government. Unless there is an intervention, these children are likely to succumb to drug abuse if their cases are not immediately heeded. Already, some young migraine sufferers are taking pain relievers to school without medical or parental advice. They need the support of families and friends for them to live normal lives.
Then you may be suffering from migraines. Migraine headaches are not dealt with in the same manner nor are they caused by the same trigger. In fact, migraine headache treatment will vary from person to person. If you find yourself dealing with these horrible aches, then you need to seek treatment. For so long, we were dealing with migraines, then we learned about some common methods that really work. Below, we are going to list some ways to treat those horrible pains:

Many individuals have found over the counter treatments to work well. There are many products out there that have been designed specifically to deal with these types of aches. For some individuals, these products can be very effective. However, there are some who just cannot get any relief from these products. That is when they have to turn to other treatment methods.

Another method for treatment involves going to the physician to get a prescription for a medication that are specifically designed to help those aches. If you tell your doctor about those headaches, then they are going to give you a medication that may help them. If the prescription medication and the over-the-counter meds do not help, then there are some natural treatments that you can turn to.

Placing a cold compress on the head may relieve you. This may not completely get rid of it, but it will give you some temporary relief. The coldness from that compress is going to help open up those blood vessels and that is going to relieve the pain.

Another natural treatment is known as feverfew. Have you ever heard of this? Feverfew is a herb that has been used by many individuals for hundreds of years. It is used to relieve a number of pains. Apart from relieving migraines, as the name suggests, it is used to chase fevers off. It is also used to relieve arthritis. Today, it is well known for relieving migraine headaches.

Another potential natural solution would be Magnesium. Studies have shown that magnesium helps relieve this pain. It is found in foods, including whole grains, seeds, green leafy vegetables and nuts. Taking this frequently could cause the aches to appear less frequently. When they do come about, they are going to be less severe.
There are also preventive medicines available for migraine. Migraine research is about the toughest field of exploration open today. And yet, this debilitating disease shows no real sign of yielding to the effort.

But if you have ever been unfortunate enough to suffer from a migraine, you'll know that it is no normal headache.

Migraines can be caused by many reasons; allergies and stress are known to attribute to attacks and a severe attack can literally knock you off your feet for days. When you have a constant headache it's very difficult to get on with your life, you can't sleep, you can lose your appetite and it can really drive you crazy. The more you can do to help control this menace, the better.

Migraines can be caused by too much stress. In these days where we are constantly struggling to make more money, to support the family and pay the bills, it is no wonder that our brains can get overworked and exhausted. This can prevent the blood from flowing properly to the brain and providing essential nutrients and oxygen to make it work properly.

Although it is sometimes extremely difficult, if you can manage to take your mind off the pressure for a while and relax it can be really helpful. Don't bring the worries of work home with you, leave them at the office, and just remember that there is no use worrying about things which are out of your control, it doesn't help and often makes things worse instead of better. Try listening to music for a while at the end of the day, have a relaxing bath or just take a long, slow walk. You'll feel better for it and more able to cope with the pressures of the following day, without having a migraine to make things worse. Another cause of migraine can be an allergic reaction to certain foods. If you do suffer from migraines regularly it is well worth keeping a diary of what you eat, and then you can soon see if there is any recurring pattern. Some people in particular find that they suffer from migraines from drinking too much coffee, and eating chocolate can also be responsible in some cases. You should drink plenty of water every day to flush out your system, and there are other things which can help, including drinking green tea and fruit juices. It is definitely worth looking at all the angles, anything is better than the constant pain of suffering from migraines.

500 million of people suffer from migraine headaches worldwide. The sad thing is, most of them don't know that migraines can be prevented and controlled naturally! In fact, migraines are triggered by a number of factors like food eaten and various life habits. If you are looking for some viable natural home remedies for migraines, continue reading this short article as I will show you some guidelines on how to prevent and control migraines naturally without any medication.

Which food will trigger migraine headaches?
As I said before, migraines are triggered by a number of factors. In most of the cases, migraine headaches are triggered by certain foods like peanuts, caffeine (NOT just coffee), dairy products, avocados, canned soups, and list goes on. While some of those foods might trigger a migraine for you, they could be O.K. for someone else. A good advice would be to keep a journal of what you eat everyday to try to find what exactly will trigger a migraine for you.

What else will trigger a migraine?
Stress, anxiety, fatigue, certain medications, and alcohol will also trigger migraines. You need to understand that migraines are triggered by your lifestyle, and that to prevent and control them, you need to modify your habits.

But what to do if I still get a migraine?
First, relax and don't panic. Prepare yourself a compress of cold water and lay down on your bed, in the dark. Remove any noise, distraction or source of stress near you and relax. Two other well-know natural home remedies for migraines are massage and acupressure. A massage will relieve those stressed muscles that will occasionally trigger a migraine. You may also try to massage the little indented zone in front of your ears with your thumbs, doing circular movements.

The pain interferes with daily life. However, thousands of people live with migraine headaches, thinking that the only help available is expensive drugs. In this brief article, Dr. Clark V. Monahan of Monahan Chiropractic discusses a range of migraine headache treatments.

Dr. Monahan reports that a large body of natural treatment knowledge is at work in today's health field. He states that Monahan Chiropractic employs natural treatments which are less expensive and non invasive. These natural treatments provide long-term, lasting relief, in contrast to the partial, temporary relief of pain medications. Additionally, Monahan Chiropractic doctors know that the chance of side affects or negative reactions are much lower with natural treatments than they are with pharmaceutical medicines.

It is important to remember that treatments can work differently for different people. Monahan Chiropractic founder Dr. Clark V. Monahan explains that a natural migraine treatment that is very effective in treating one person may be of no help to another. Various types of stress can aggravate migraine headaches, and removing those tensions is an important step to wellness.

Some headaches are caused by stress and muscle tension. The doctors at Monahan Chiropractic equip patients by teaching them to relax muscles in the neck and upper back through auxiliary services like biofeedback training. Biofeedback training conditions a person to be more in tune with, and able to control, their involuntary nervous system. With correct biofeedback training, explains Dr. Clark V. Monahan of Monahan Chiropractic, patients can learn to outwit stress by controlling their own heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension.

Monahan Chiropractic also reminds patients that nutrition and hydration are common, often overlooked cures for pain. Nutritional therapy is a scientific approach to the health of your food. Monahan Chiropractic encourages patients to undo unhealthy diets based on bad habits, including high salt and fat content. Instead, the staff at Monahan Chiropractic wants people to live a fulfilling life, eating healthy food, and free of pain. There are many simple, significant changes a person can make to their lives to eliminate pain, like good nutrition and excessive. Sometimes, adds Monahan Chiropractic, it is true that a patient needs the care of trusted and experienced medical hands, like those of one of the health care professionals at Monahan Chiropractic.

Another popular natural migraine pain treatment is chiropractic adjustment. Misalignment of the spine can lead to pain and intense headaches. Monahan Chiropractic uses natural, modern techniques that have met with success for over a century. Monahan Chiropractic sometimes uses spinal adjustment to treat migraines. Monahan Chiropractic concludes that a large majority of patients find relief through spinal adjustments. Chiropractic methods can do a stellar job correcting spinal troubles.

Once you discover what causes migraine headaches you can get a better idea of how you can solve it naturally or with an over the counter remedy. If you’re tired of being in pain from your headaches and want your life back, read on to learn a lot more.

Migraine headaches come in a wide variety of “shapes and sizes,” i.e. they sometimes only hit at unpredictable times, with pain so bad that you may need to inject yourself with medicine to stop the headaches as fast as possible. Other people have very mild migraines that come at very predictable times—like when they eat certain foods or are in certain environments.

Causes in women can range from diet to hormonal change. Migraine sufferers in general can experience a severe migraine headache from stress, sensory stimuli like bright lights, sleep deprivation, dehydration or even unpleasant smells. What triggers migraine headaches varies from person to person so it’s important to consider all the possibilities when you go to self-diagnose. In some cases you may just need to adjust your environment and take out certain things like bright florescent lights or anything that smells strongly. If all else fails you might want to look into using an over the counter remedy like a supplement or medicine that might help replenish the body and get you feeling better as soon as possible.
So many people have the problem of migraine headaches and they can be totally immobilizing.

How can you get back to your daily life after having regular migraine attacks? As difficult as this may sound, keep reading and you may figure out what causes your migraines and what you can do to alleviate them.

Migraine headaches are known for being some of the worst pain that people can suffer. You, or probably many people you know may get them regularly and you're aware of how painful they can be. It's important to realize that there are more than likely very specific triggers that bring on your migraines. Avoiding these can cut down on the severity and frequency of your headaches.

Wether you're a student who is stressed out from school, or if you have stress from work, or if you have a terrible diet that causes your headaches, there are likely patterns to your headaches. It's important to identify these triggers and the causes you have for your migraines.

Try keeping a journal of where you are and what you're doing (or what you've just done) when you get your headaches. This alone can give you lots of great information about the factors that may be contributing to them. It may become obvious over time exactly what triggers you. Perhaps you get headaches at a certain time of day or after eating certain foods. Maybe you get them before a stressful situation or when you're dehydrated. Make note of these potential triggers and you'll be well on your way to alleviating many of your regular headaches.

Your first priority when you get an attack becomes finding total darkness and a warm bed, a bath, or an ice pack to help you relax and wait it all out. The sad thing this happens to people on a daily basis, and if you're one of people who continually suffer from them, you understand that you would do just about anything to have permanent migraines relief.

Migraines have many different triggers and those who suffer from them have to truly be aware of what these can be. A main theory about migraines is that the toxic buildup from our diets is an overall trigger. Most of the foods we eat daily contain chemicals that are not naturally found in our environment and most likely have been invented in a lab. Artificial sweeteners, preservatives, caffeine, MSG, and other toxins are chemicals that our bodies have trouble breaking down. All of these toxins are stored in the cells of our body and create chaos within it.

Aspartame and MSG, which are in lots of processed foods, sweets, and fast foods are two known culprits. The FDA has received numerous complaints about both of these chemicals but they are so common in the foods that we need their almost impossible to avoid.

Ideally we would all eat a very natural diet free of chemicals and toxins. Even though a vegetarian and vegan or raw diet might not eliminate all of the triggers for your migraines it would definitely go a long way to purifying your body and giving you a huge advantage to avoiding migraines and living a more healthy lifestyle.

Switching to a healthy diet might not solve the issue of you getting migraines, but it will begin the process of letting your body detoxify from what has stored up over years of unhealthy eating. The bad news is that if you switch to an incredibly healthy diet tomorrow, the toxins released in your bloodstream would cause almost crippling headaches until you are completely flushed and clean of them. But the good news is that you can introduce green, live, cleansing foods into your diet and take many short day-long fasts which will begin cleansing your body gently. Easing your way into it and allowing yourself a gradual reduction in toxins will do much more for you than shocking your system into change.

If you perform a series of short fasts and began eating more wholesome, green, water rich foods, fruits, vegetables and grains, you'll start to notice yourself feeling better and generally detoxing as time goes on. This will help you identify trigger foods, such as coffee, chocolate, cheese, red wine, nuts, MSG and aspartame, as you reintroduce them in to your diet.

Sometimes migraine sufferers may also report nausea and vomiting along with pain. A migraine pain may last for hours or even days. Sometimes the pain is so intense that you find it difficult to work or carry out your routine activities. Migraines are more frequently reported in women than in men. In fact, women are 3 times more likely to suffer from migraines than men.

Migraine causes

The cause of a migraine may differ in individuals. However, some of the commonly identified potential migraine triggers include - bright lights, loud noises, certain odours or perfumes, stress, tension headaches, changes in sleep patterns or irregular sleep, skipping meals or fasting, changes in weather, smoking or exposure to smoke, alcohol, allergies and allergic reactions and certain types of food. In women, migraines may also be triggered by menstrual cycle fluctuations, birth control pills or hormone fluctuations during menopause transition.

Migraine medication and migraine treatment

The best way to prevent migraine attacks it to avoid migraine triggers. By keeping a migraine diary and noting down the activities you performed when the migraine attack occurred, you can identify your migraine trigger.

However, once the migraine attack has set in you can take over-the-counter medications such as naproxen, ibuprofen, acetaminophen (paracetamol), and other analgesics like Excedrin (aspirin with caffeine). However, if these medicines fail to offer you effective results you would need to consult your doctor for more serious prescription painkillers such as NSAIDS to get relief from migraine headache. Anti-emetics may also be employed to control symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

Migraine pain relief

People who frequently suffer from migraine attacks that affect their quality of life can benefit from drug-free alternative migraine treatment available today. The biggest advantage of these natural methods of treating migraine is that unlike medicines they do not cause you side effects. It has also been observed that people who suffer from migraines frequently wish to reduce their dependency on painkillers as taking painkillers regularly reduces its effectiveness in your body. You would therefore need to take stronger painkillers overtime to get the same effect.

One of the most popular drug free treatments for migraines is Cefaly electrotherapy device. The scientifically advanced electronic device emits gentle electric impulses that act on the nerve cells and inhibit pain. Cefaly electrotherapy device not only provides relief from migraine pain but also helps to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks.

Those who suffer from migraine attacks frequently can also take advantage of home use detox foot spa such as the BioEnergiser Classic Detox Foot Spa and the BioEnergiser Professional Detox Foot Spa. These easy to use detox foot spas relieve your body of the toxins that get accumulated over time. A migraine is typically a throbbing or pulsing headache, often focused on one-side of the head, and associated with nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, as well as certain smells. Attacks are typically recurring, and can be less severe as the migraine sufferer ages.

Migraines can occur at any age, but typically begin between the ages of 10 and 40. While some people experience several migraines a month, a select few only have a few migraines throughout their lifetime. Nearly 75% of migraine sufferers are women. Though migraines can happen at any time, some women experience migraines just prior to or during menstruation. These migraines, called menstrual migraines, are related to hormonal changes and often do not occur during pregnancy. Meanwhile, some women only develop migraines for the first time during pregnancy, or even after menopause.

The actual cause of a migraine is unknown. It is believed, however, that the condition results from a series of reactions in the central nervous system, usually caused by changes in the body or in the environment. Migraines often appear to be inherited, as there is often a family history of the condition. These migraine sufferers may inherit the sensitivity to triggers that produce inflammation in blood vessels and nerves around the brain, which cause pain.

The signs and symptoms of migraine pain are often intense and severe, described by throbbing or pulsating pain that only gets intensified by routine physical activity, coughing, straining, or even moving the head. These headaches can often gets so severe that they interfere with the day-to-day activity of a person. Sleeping migraine sufferers can be awakened by the attack, which can also cause a numbing sensation in hands and lips, as well as interfere with eyesight and vision for the duration of the attack. Migraines can be so debilitating - causing sufferers to feel tired and weak even long after the migraine has passed.

Migraines typically begin in a specific area, usually on one side of the head, and can spread and build in intensity over a course of a few hours, then gradually subside. They can last an entire day, or in some extremely severe cases, several days.

The problem with migraine symptoms is that they are as varied as the individual sufferer. The strange sensations, such as tingling or the feeling of numbness, are known as auras, and can start anywhere from ten to thirty minutes before the migraine pain actually sets in.

Migraine treatment is possible. Knowing what triggers your migraines and avoiding them is one of the best ways to avoid a migraine. Treating acute attacks as they appear is crucial. Talking to your doctor, who may prescribe regular use of a preventative medication can also be the way to go. Over the counter treatments for migraines can be helpful, as well as resting or sleeping in a completely dark and quiet place.
A migraine headache is a recurrent, throbbing headache usually felt on one side of the head. Migraines usually begin in early childhood, adolescence, or young adult life. Migraine pain can be excruciating, and may incapacitate you for hours or even days.

Most people have heard of migraine headaches, but most don't realize that there are actually several different kinds. An abdominal migraine affects not just the head but the abdomen, and usually occurs in children. A basilar migraine is one that affects the person in the back of the neck and / or brain. Migraines most commonly occur in women and usually start between the ages of 10 and 46. Migraines can be difficult to diagnose. Without proper diagnosis, the patient cannot get the proper treatment. It is more likely the patient visits the doctor headache-free so it is important to describe the symptoms in a very clear way.

When it comes to the symptoms of a migraine you need to know exactly what you are up against. Simply put, you do not know just how bad a migraine headache can be until you are struck with one. The symptoms can be quite serious, and if you are not careful they may shut your life down for a day or more.

Symptoms of Migraine: -
* Severe headache * Sound sensitivity * Throbbing headache * Pain over one eye * Sound sensitivity * One-sided headache * Frontal headache * Nausea * Vomiting * Weakness * Vision disturbance * Light sensitivity
Preventing migraine attacks / headaches usually involves all those habits you've heard you should adopt: regular exercise, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, and staying away from cigarettes and too much alcohol. Mastering good posture also helps. Plus, most doctors suggest that the migraine sufferer learn what their particular migraine triggers are. A trigger is something such as a food, sight, sound or smell that brings on an attack.

Some Home Remedies for Migraine: -
* Exercise: - We all know that regular exercise helps us cope with pain. It's especially effective for people with migraine. Some even find that mild exercise during a migraine helps alleviate the pain. * Avoid: -To prevent migraine avoid or reduce white flour products, sugar, confectionery, rich cakes, pastries, sweets, refined cereals, greasy foods, tinned or preserved foods, pickles, condiments and sauces. * Garlic: - Include garlic in your diet. Either chew a piece of garlic in the raw form or mix it with other food items. * Heat and Cold: - For some people with headache it's one, with some it's another. Experiment, but avoid extremes, which can make things worse! Try a cold pack wrapped in a couple layers of towel on your neck. One of my favorites is putting your hands in hot water, which seems to pull the pressure out of your head. * Use Lemon Crust: -Lemon crusts can cure migraine. Grind lemon crust and apply as a paste on the forehead. Migraine cures using this remedy has been found very effective and long lasting by many. Lemon peel is helpful in solving migraine headache. Grind lemon peel to form a paste and apply it on the forehead. Let it dry and then rinse off with cool water.
You probably already know that migraines cannot be cured so I'm not going to make any false promises. However, these 5 proven tips for natural migraine relief have been proven to reduce the symptoms of debilitating migraines.

Stay away from the light. With migraines just like headaches, bright light, both natural and artificial intensify the pain dramatically. Stay in a darkened room and lie down if at all possible.

Use an Icepack. Placing an icepack or something else cold on the back of the neck near the base of the skull can help ease the pain. A cold damp cloth placed across the eyes can help too and also block out the light.
Drink plenty of water Dehydration can intensify the pain of a migraine or headache and it is a known fact that many people need to go to the bathroom more often when suffering from a migraine. Make sure your body is fully hydrated.

Take a hot bath A hot bath helps to relax your muscles. Migraines can sometimes be triggered by tight muscles, especially around the back and shoulders. A long hot bath is often the best natural migraine relief for many suffers.

Clear Your Head If you have a lot on your mind, there's no point trying to think about anything while you're suffering a migraine attack. I know it can he hard especially if your schedule is as hectic as mine, but clearing your mind and focusing on long slow deep breaths can help dramatically.

Those are the most effective methods for natural migraine relief that have personally helped me in the past. However, there are several other advanced methods that are beyond the scope of this article that provide much greater natural migraine relief as well as dramatically reduce the frequency of migraines.
The symptoms don't always go together, by any means.

Whenever you have a slightly out of the norm symptom, or combination of symptoms, then homeopaths tend jump for joy. You see, there are literally thousands of homeopathic medicines for the symptom nausea. Just having nausea as the only symptom is unlikely to lead you to the most appropriate homeopathic medicine. You need to have some other symptoms that characterise the nausea.

The homeopathic medicine Ipecacuanha, Ipecac for short, is a one of great medicines for nausea, but only a specific kind.

The strongest keynote for the successful use of Ipecac is that your nausea is not relieved by vomiting. That's a bit unusual. Normally vomiting gives you at least a short lived respite.

Another really strong keynote is the headaches, or even migraines. These typically accompany the nausea. Sometimes vomiting can bring on a mild headache from the exertion. But nausea on it's own normally doesn't. So this is a great and personal combination.

And the third strong keynote, that would clinch the successful use of this medicine, is that you are totally thirstless during the nausea. In fact you gag at the mere thought of a drink (or food).

It's likely that you will need quite a few doses of the lower potencies of Ipecac, found in most homeopathic home prescribing kits.

Ipecac is likely not only to resolve the headaches and nausea, but t will do this by raising your immune system. Which means that you will be able to resist more ill health in the future.
Undoubtedly, after hearing so much about how bad these headaches are, how many different symptoms come along with them, how inevitable they seem to be, and even how different each person's own migraine experience is, most people probably think there's no real way to prevent them. All that can really be done, surely, is a certain amount of migraine management. But actual prevention? It certainly can't be possible.

It's true that some of the things that are known to trigger migraines are beyond the headache sufferer's control. Yet the key to effective migraine management is to discover the factors in the person's life that are controllable triggers. These might be, for example, things they ingest, while other triggers might even be experiences they have. Once they understand how these things relate to and possibly even cause their migraines, they have one key element in how to prevent migraines from afflicting them in the first place.

Some triggers involve external factors, like second hand smoke or intense visual stimuli, such as glaring lights or reflected sunlight. Stress is another factor, which is why a migraine is sometimes mistaken for a simple stress headache. Another unavoidable external factor might be certain changes in weather or barometric pressure. And of course it's not really possible for women to entirely avoid a menstrual migraine. But other triggers for migraines are found in foods or even aromas, and this is where the migraine sufferer can make changes. They will frequently notice that ingestion of certain foods will always be followed by a migraine, so eliminating those foods can help reduce occurrences. Gluten is one major culprit, and in fact, migraines can sometimes be a symptom of celiac disease. The incidence of other food triggers seems to be anecdotal and depends on each individual. But most researchers agree that avoiding things like dehydration and sudden changes in eating habits are crucial factors in preventing migraines.

The ideal in the eyes of all migraine sufferers is to get permanent migraine relief. This is unlikely to happen for most of them, however. Yet if they start to keep a diary and record everything that seems to bring a headache on, or at least precedes it, then they may begin to notice repeating patterns and find a way to eliminate some of these triggers. Keeping an eye on their own surroundings and trying to take control of them is one of the best steps in how to prevent migraines.
Sure, it is possible to have negative reactions to natural treatments, but the chances are much less than with medications.

Different things work for different people. No two people are alike and a headache treatment method that works for one person may not work for another. But on the contrary, just because one method does not work for someone else does not mean it will not relieve your migraine headaches. There are many alternatives to taking medications when it comes to migraine headache relief. One may be just what you need.

Chiropractic adjustments are surely the most popular form of natural headache relief. Patients with migraine headaches have been visiting chiropractors for decades, and with very good success. As many as 80% or more of headache patients find relief with chiropractic care. Spinal problems do cause headaches and chiropractors do an outstanding job of correcting spinal problems.

Biofeedback is a training program designed to help a person develop the ability to control their autonomic (involuntary) nervous system. After learning the technique it is then possible for a person to control their heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature, and of course, the relaxation of their muscles.

Muscle tension can cause headaches and by relaxing muscles, especially in the neck, it is possible to relieve migraine headaches. Once the technique is learned there is no longer any need for the biofeedback equipment. The patient with migraine headaches can now produce the desired effect any time they wish.

Sometimes too much salt can cause headaches. And by simply lessening the salt intake headaches can sometimes be prevented.

Some migraine headaches are caused by food sensitivities. Certain foods can cause migraines and eliminating these foods can prevent migraine pain. Some common foods that can trigger migraine headaches are cheese, alcohol, monosodium glutamate (a food additive), nuts, beans, caffeine, chocolate, onions and others.

A very common cause of many tension headaches and migraine headaches is just plain old stress. People that get tense experience headaches from the increased tension.

Relieving tension can often relieve migraine headaches. Tension can be relieved in many ways such as by taking a warm bath or shower, lying down in a quiet dark room to rest, putting something cold on the back of the neck (at the base of the skull) or having someone massage your neck muscles and possibly your temporal region to help relieve your tension and muscle spasms.

There are many other natural treatments available to migraine headache patients including the Soothe-A-Ciser Migraine Headaches Cushion. This pillow was designed by a chiropractor to help correct neck problems that can cause headaches.

All of the above treatment methods for migraine headaches are considered safe. However, it is always a good idea to talk with your doctor before attempting to treat yourself for a health problem.
The answer, researchers are finding, is YES.

For years, doctors believed that migraines were a vascular problem. They found that the blood vessels swelled in your head, bringing on the pain of a migraine. Therefore, all the research on treating migraines and developing drugs for migraines concentrated on dealing with swelling blood vessels.

Now, researchers are finding that the swelling of blood vessels in the brain is not what starts a migraine -- in fact, it's a result of what actually brings on a migraine.

Doctors are finding, with the use of new technology such as PET scans that can watch a brain while it's actually having a migraine, from start to finish, that the migraine really starts in the brainstem.
Migraines are not a vascular problem, they are a neurological disorder.

Apparently, due to an inherited set of malfunctioning genes, the brains of migraineurs are simply over-sensitive to stimuli. The brainstem, when it gets a message of overstimulation from whatever your migraine triggers are, sends a message to the brain, causing it to be come hyperexcited. Like a sudden crash of an arriving thunderstorm, your brain has a storm of neuronal activity. Then, like the calm in the center of a hurricane, your brain activity drops to a very low level. Your neurotransmitters have all been used up in a very short time, and now your brain activity becomes sluggish and slowed. That is probably one reason why doctors have found that treating people who get migraines with antidepressant SSRIs (serotonin reuptake inhibitors) helps -- because your serotonin level drops drastically. People with migraines often feel fatigued, "can't think", "feel stupid". That's because your brain becomes like a drag racing car that uses up all of its fuel in a quick burst and then runs out.

This activity irritates and excites the trigeminal nerve, which THEN causes your blood vessels to expand in your brain. Brain scans have shown an increase of blood in your brain of up to 300% before your headache pain even begins. The blood level then returns to normal or even goes below average. THEN, your migraine starts.

What does this mean? It means that drugs that work to keep your blood vessels from dilating and causing your headache are not really attacking the cause.

What does this mean for you? It means that identifying what your migraine triggers are and doing your best to prevent them even starting a headache is your best policy. It also means that finding a doctor who understands the latest research into the cause of headaches and doesn't just automatically write you a prescription is the best way you can live a healthful and happier life.
Currently many theories on hormones and migraines focus on hormones fluctuations - the rapid rise or fall of hormone levels.

 What are hormones?
Hormones are essentially targeted chemical messengers which are secreted by glands into the blood stream where then they affect metabolism, growth, sexual reproduction, organ behavior, and mood. The major hormone producing glands include the adrenals, pancreas, pituitary, sex glands, thyroid, and parathyroid glands.

How Do You Know You Migraines Are Hormonal?
Ask yourself - Do you frequently get migraines two days before, during, or up to three days after your menstrual cycle? Do you frequently get migraines half-way through your menstrual cycle (ovulation)? If the answer to any of the above question is yes, then you may be experiencing hormonal migraines. If you don't know the answer for sure, consider keeping a migraine journal in order to see if your headaches correlated with your cycle.

Treatment for Menstrual and Menstrual-related Migraines
Western Medicine Approach:

* An outdated approach to treating hormonal migraines was to put women on oral contraceptives to "normalize" supposedly abnormal hormone levels. It is now though that it is the rapid rise or fall of hormones that can cause problems. Many women have good luck switching to low estrogen pills, and from triphasic (each week has a different hormone level) to monophasic birth control pills (each pill contains the same amount of hormones) to ensure that hormone levels remain constant twenty-one out of twenty-eight days. Another approach is to try the new menstrual suppression oral contraceptives, which allow one to go months without experiencing a period.

* Women who experience regular, predictable periods can take preventative prescription medication either daily or a few days before you cycle (according to the advice of your doctor.) In general, people who experience three or more migraines per month are advised to take a daily medicine. Those who experience fewer migraines will usually do fine taking medications starting a few days before they know for sure they will get a migraine.

* Women who have unpredictable menstrual cycles may need to rely on prescription medication (such as triptans) which will abort an oncoming headache. Some women also report success using non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs during this time.

Wellness approach:
* Many women have found their menstrual-related migraines respond very well to taking magnesium supplements.
This can create intense stress in your system.

Chiropractors correct subluxations so your energies flow more freely, communication returns and your body stress levels drop. No matter what the disease or condition you are healthier and happier when your subluxations are corrected.

(1) There are many studies showing the benefits of chiropractic for migraine sufferers. For example, in one study chiropractic care resulted in a reduction of 90% of migraine episodes with the length of each migraine reduced by 38%. In addition, medication use dropped 94% and other symptoms associated with migraine such as nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia (light and sound sensitivity) were reduced.

(2) In another study, a 28-year-old woman with 15 years of severe migraines, irregular menstrual cycles and inability to conceive began chiropractic care. Within two months the migraines completely ceased. A regular menstrual cycle began 7 weeks into care and within 6 months she became pregnant.

(3) A ten-year-old girl was unable to go to school due to her six times a week migraines. Three years of medical care afforded no relief. After five chiropractic adjustments she was migraine-free.

(4) Anyone suffering from headaches of any type would do well to see their chiropractor to ensure that they are free of subluxations. If there are subluxations, no amount of drugs will correct them-a chiropractic adjustment is essential.
Feverfew is native to the Balkan mountains of Eastern Europe. When grown, the plant resembles a short bush with daisy-like flowers (white petals surrounding a yellow center.)

People have been using feverfew as a natural treatment for fever, headaches, pain, digestive disorders, menstrual problems, and difficulty during childbirth for a very long time. Most recently feverfew has become a common treatment for migraines and rheumatoid arthritis. Feverfew is believed to work as a pain reliever and preventative agent for migraine because the herb may cause a reduction in the release of serotonin and prostaglandins, leading to a reduction in the inflammation of the blood vessels in the brain. Parthenolide and tanetin are the active ingredients in feverfew. Feverfew also contains a large portion of melatonin. Parthenolide is thought to control smooth muscle spasms - which can reduce blood vessel constriction in the brain.

Most medicinal preparations use primarily the leaves, although it is not uncommon to see blends using flowers and stems as well. Like many medications for migraine, it can take up to six weeks to see an effect. Feverfew does work as a migraine abortive and taking a dose during an attack could possibly be effective.

Feverfew supplements come in capsules, tablets, and liquid extracts. You can also choose to consume the fresh leaves of the plant. It is also not uncommon to see feverfew combine with other supplements such as riboflavin (vitamin B2) and magnesium for increased efficacy. The suggested dosage is 100 mg per day for adults. Some people may choose to take between 100-300mg up to four times daily.

Be sure to read the label of whichever supplement you are considering buying as type does matter. Look for products which are standardized to 0.2 to 0.35 percent of parthenolide to ensure that you are getting therapeutic amounts of the active ingredient. If your supplement is carbon dioxide extracted - a method of extraction which does not submit the herb to high temperatures - look for dosages of 6.25mg, three times daily.
Side effects can include mouth irritation, digestive problems, stomach pain, vomiting, rebound headaches, and in some cases - skin irritation. Feverfew is not recommended for anyone who is allergic to the daisy family (chamomile, ragweed, or yarrow.) Feverfew is not safe for women pregnant (as it can contract the uterus leading to miscarriage or premature delivery) or nursing, children under two and anyone who takes blood thinning medication due to the fact that feverfew acts as a natural blood thinner. Lastly, if you have been taking feverfew for more than one week as wish to discontinue use, be sure to taper down gradually as feverfew has been known to cause headaches, fatigue, anxiety, and joint pain in withdrawal.
Some swear that only strong coffee makes a bad headache better. Others avoid caffeine like the plague concerned that its consumption will trigger a migraine. So, what is the truth?

Yes, caffeine really can help reduce the severity of migraines when taken during the very early stages of the headache. Why is this? Caffeine has the ability to work like other migraine abortive drugs in that it can reduce the inflammation of the blood vessels in your brain. For anyone who is looking for a simple, nonprescription migraine reducing therapy - a cup of string coffee, tea, or soda could be helpful.

Caffeine is also a common ingredient in many over the counter and prescription pain killers such as Excedrin. Caffeine is usually added to increase the speed at which one feels pain relief. This is can be an advantage for those who take pain killers in that you can feel faster effects using less active ingredients.

Unsurprisingly, there is also a dark-side to caffeine use. If used too frequently or in quantities that are too large, there can be a number of unpleasant side effects. If consumed on a regular basis, either as a beverage or as a pill, one's body will start to expect and DEMAND its regular dose. The side effects that you will notice, such as increased headaches, fatigue, nausea, and anxiety are withdrawal symptoms.

This is why on the weekend many people will experience headaches due to missing their early morning coffee. The same will occur if pain medication is taken on a regular basis. You will find that you may start to develop headaches at predictable intervals. The number of headaches that you experience may become more frequent. These headaches will also be increasingly resistant to the drug that was previously helpful. You may find that you keep taking more medicine, yet experiencing less effect.

Also keep in mind that with caffeine more is not better. Excessive intake can cause headaches, fatigue, and trouble sleeping. For many migraine sufferers, poor quality sleep can be a major factor in triggering migraines. For this reason, many people choose to abstain from regular caffeine consumption.

If you are worried that drinking too much coffee or tea, or taking drugs containing caffeine is contributing to your headache problems and not helping - then strongly consider reducing the amount you consume. The best method is to taper off slowly, not to stop all at once in order to reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms.
