What if you needed a PCI in an emergency, and it was not available in you area? Little did I know, we do have access only 30 minutes away in Kitchener.

At St. Mary’s General Hospital, they have the AMAZING Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and Percutaneous Coronary Interventions are being performed daily, and thankfully for me, on EMERGENCY basis.

Being the dumb guy that I am, I didn’t heed the messages that my body was telling me, so it woke me up Monday morning with a bang! Felt like I had been kicked in the chest. And I still didn’t get my head around it, so I stumbled around, thinking silly reasons for the pain, until my daughter in law woke up and saw me. Since she is a Nurse in Calgary, here for a visit following the passing of my Mum the previous Friday (ya, stress may be a factor ya think?) she immediately called 911, gave them the symptoms, and they were here in 5 minutes.

Once the EMT staff had me strapped down and hooked up to ECG, they told me I was having a Heart Attack! They gave me the Nitro to keep me going, and knew they had to call to ensure SMGH was ready and available for an Emergency PCI, thankfully they were.

In probably less than two hours, I was looking at the BEFORE and AFTER images of my beating heart on the overhead monitors! And YES, you are awake during the procedure. The ONE thing that sticks out in my mind at the moment? The wonder Doctors told me before they started, that at some point they may ask me to COUGH. I didn’t think anything about it until the time came……..

Looking at the monitor, there was a ZERO, and ALL the staff were telling me to cough, so I did, a few times in fact, and magically the number changed to 50 or more. Who knew!!

Once I get settled down, and relaxed, I hope to follow up with some detail on the entire experience, and some do’s and don’ts that I have learned.

Memories…..

That’s why we take them, and now even MORE than we ever have. Remember going through your parents or grandparents photo albums? All those people, and place, that you never knew? And they can’t remember who or where the picture was taken? Better take some time to add notes to your pictures, and burn them to a CD for your kids! (Says me, who still hasn’t done it yet) The Spirit is willing, but the time is fleeting.

So for now, just share out some that have caught my eye, and imagination, and hope you enjoy them too.

#Opinion #Ontario Trades Membership Fees #AnotherTAX

Quietly, at least in my opinion, the Ontario College Of Trades is pushing through a Membership plan that will make your Current Trade Card useless.
You spent your hard earned money on schooling, plus books, tools, and examination fees, to get accredited Trade recognition by receiving your Certificate Of Qualification and now it will be null and void unless you pay up to $120 annual MEMBERSHIP FEE to maintain your certification.
In my mind, this is another TAX, and another BLOW to the working man and woman who want to pursue a career in the Trades. The COSTS are getting beyond most folks, and there must be some control on these talking heads before this Country is sold to the EAST, as we drop further and further behind the rest of the World.

In my opinion…… YES!
One of my favourite places to find and buy music, knowing the MOST money goes back to the Artist, AND it is about to change drastically in the coming months.
CHANGE? Yes! A Social change for the FANS! Fans will have their own PAGES that list their fave music, what they own and what they wish to own. Other FANS can FOLLOW Fan pages, and see what you like, and maybe they will like it too. Fans can also SEE which Artists you FOLLOW!
For the Artist, you get a great place to showcase your music, with embeddable widgets your FANS can share on blogs, also sell your music and MERCH! You have a physical CD? Sell it at BANDCAMP! Link your Bandcamp page to your website for a ready to go store front!

Dude, where's your twitter?

If you followed me on twitter as @limey59music, maybe you noticed, or maybe not, that I deleted the account. Over 6000 followers in three years, not too bad for a part time amateur. During that time I saw some artists able to build beyond 15000!

But what is the point? Seriously! Of the 1000s who follow, how many actually see your posts? Even BIG PLAYERS with over 300000 followers have a hard time getting VIEWS on their links, except for maybe the odd new follower. Same thing can be said for Facebook! (Yep, I deleted that too!) Information overload.

Pundits are putting too must faith in twitter, since they feel they had good luck with it, but to get to that point requires constant creative posts. Do you have the TIME to do that on a consistent basis, or does your REAL LIFE get in the way, making money to pay the bills, and for the artist, actually getting out there to do three or four gigs per week!

I was talking to a drummer at an outdoor street festival, and this guy works midnight shift, just so he has the days to PLAY, and follow his passion! Some days he is lucky to get three hours sleep! So how does someone like this get to do creative twitter posts, add updates to Facebook? You just can't!

SO, what can be done to support Artists of all things, not just music? Here are some thoughts from my perspective, and you can add or take what you like, since the WEB is about sharing!

NETWORK! One of the best things about the inter-webs is the way you can connect with like minded individuals, ones who share you passion, and show support in small ways. It's a tough goal, but one that does tend to lead to improved functions on the Social Networks.

USE YOUR BLOG! Blogger is still the best bang for the buck, allows you to share your thoughts, and links to most other Social Networks. Posterous WAS good at the start, but now that Twitter owns it, the service is suffering. If you use Blogger, also link it to NETWORKED BLOGS, and it will show on Facebook.

STREET TEAMS! This is a biggie. Build a strong fanbase, and let the TEAM take some of the workload! Get a big enough TEAM, and you almost have instant Viral action on your links. Do they work? You bet! I've found some amazing Music Artists just because a team member found me on Twitter. The Artist alone could not do what a TEAM of tweeters can do.

OK, long winded, sorry, but there is more rattling around my noodle, just want the Artists to understand the GOAL is attainable. You may not get 2 Million fans hanging on your every tweet, but you could get 30000 who actually like and care about what you do, and may even buy a track or three!!

In the end, PAY IT BACK, BUY A TRACK!

Cailyn Lloyd began playing the piano at age 6 and the violin at age 8. She picked up a guitar in her teens, playing in the progressive-rock scene in London, England, including a gig at the famed Marquee Club. After returning to the United States, Cailyn continued to study and perform on guitar, learned to play bass and drums, and then took time to raise a family.

Six years ago, Cailyn returned to music full time, touring first with the Alimony Blues Band as guitarist and then with noted power-rock band IX Lives on guitar, bass, and keyboards. CHARITY begins with MARK EMMINS

Quite literally, Rocker Mark Emmins is putting his BODY on the line for charity. SERIOUSLY! Mark has pledged to GET INKED over his entire body, with hopes generous people will donate to the cause for CANCER RESEARCH.

We are not talking little line drawings of Butterflies here, but full on large ART from an artist (Kirsty Cousin) donating her time. Mark completed a 10 hour marathon INK session in 2010, and raised £1000 for charity, but this year wanted to GO BIG, as is his way, because EMMINS ROCKS.

Starting in June Mark pledged his body to ALL OVER BODY TATTOO FOR CHARITY, and will continue to get INKED, as long as donations keep coming in.
