Communication encryption company Silent Circle released a version of its text message privacy app Silent Text for Android.
The app allows subscribers to Silent Circle, a service that costs around $10 per month, to route encrypted calls, messages and attachments through their Android handset without logging the usual metadata associated with those communications. Attachments can be up to 100MB and of any file type.

Music Maker Jam

Music Maker Jam for Android is an incredibly fun way to mix and make music, courtesy of Berlin-based developers Magix.
The app takes a more playful approach than the professional suite available for PCs, and it’s clearly aimed at novices looking to mess around with different sounds and mixes, rather than those wishing to create a smash hit. But it is fun nevertheless, and could get very addictive.
You get access to around a thousand loops from four different genres: Hip Hop, Dance, Electric Jazz, and Rock Ballads. If Dubstep, Techno, Rock Pop or other genres take your fancy, you can buy more for around $1.99 each.

Moves

Moves, the highly-acclaimed activity and location-tracking app , finally launched on Android this month.

As with the iPhone version, Moves for Android keeps a log of where you go and how far you walk, run and cycle, presenting the data in a simple, useful way. In terms of features, the Android version is a little behind the iPhone incarnation, which recently gained support for connecting third-party apps, and last week added user accounts, meaning that users can change device and keep their data. These will come to Android soon though.

Simplenote

Simplenote, the popular productivity app acquired by WordPress-owner Automattic earlier this year, finally landed on Android

Like the iOS version, the Android app is free, but those who download it can get started from the get-go, without the need to create a Simplenote account. Users who do go to the trouble of signing up or logging in, will see their notes synced and maintained across the iOS, Kindle and Web versions of the service.

Hotspotio for Android allows users to share their own, or use others’, Internet connection in exchange for public gratitude.

Social photo app Foap landed on Android this month, letting users monetize their mobile photos.
Following its launch on iOS last year, and maintaining the same core experience, the Foap Android app lets users list their snaps for $10 each (split 50/50 between Foap and the user), providing they garner an approval rating of 2.5 or higher from other Foap users.

Chirp

Chirp, the app that lets you share links and photos using short bursts of ‘digital birdsong’, finally landed on Android this month.
Rather than sending pictures via messages, emails, social networks or storage services like Dropbox, Chirp lets you send links to webpages, pictures and other content to multiple people at once, provided they also have the Chirp app installed and active.

Bug in Gtalk And hangouts

Google's Hangouts/GTalk messaging system is currently experiencing a glitch where messages are being incorrectly delivered to unintended recipients.
Several users have found that since around 4pm this afternoon, messages sent over Google Hangouts and GTalk have been sent erroneously to the wrong recipients.
There appears to be no pattern to who is receiving the messages by mistake, or who the glitch affects.

Having a list of the apps on your Android device can be helpful at times, for yourself and for others. Maybe you're setting up a new device and can't remember all the apps you've installed or someone you know has asked you for app recommendations for their new Android phone. You could go directly to your list of apps on Google Play, but that list can contain apps you've downloaded, then uninstalled.

"A list of your Android apps can be a helpful reference. With List My Apps, you can easily create a list and share it with others. "

To get a current list of apps installed on your Android device, use a new app called List My Apps. When you launch List My Apps, it automatically gathers a list of the apps installed on your Android device. As GHacks notes, List My Apps only lists the apps you've installed, not the system apps that came preinstalled. To create your list, select the apps you want to include, then choose whether you want to copy the list as plain text, HTML, BBCode, or as a Markdown list. The last three options all include direct links to the apps in the Google Play store.

When you're ready to copy your list to the clipboard, tap on the clipboard icon at the top, then paste it to an e-mail, Evernote, or some other app you prefer to use. You can also tap on the share icon if you want to share it on social media.

If you were to randomly wake me up one day and tell me that today is Android’s (and the T-Mobile G1 that held the honors of being the very first Android device) 5th birthday. Has it really only been 5 years?
A lot has changed, folks, and Android is no longer an infant.
It’s grown into a fine, stable and beautiful mobile operating system that is used to power not just phones, but tablets, set-top boxes, watches, televisions, cars, cameras, home appliances and more. It’s everywhere and on everything, and it came that far in just 5 years.
We’re not sure if Android could have ever grown into the powerhouse it is today without Google, the company that took a chance on Andy Rubin’s big dream. While the original godfather of Android is no longer with that particular team, we’ll never forget his contribution to the mobile world.

Android is still striving without Rubin, though. It’s because of its maturation that Rubin was finally able to let go of the reigns and let the awesome team that has been built around Android continue the movement. It started with one device, and now has been activated on more than a billion worldwide (and that number is growing every single day). Here’s to many, many more.

One billion activated phones since then, and Android is a completely different—and damned mature—animal. From its humble beginnings on an OK phone, Android has branched out to cameras, watches, even refrigerators. And there's no end in sight.

Leaked Images of Android 4.4 Kitkat

Many smartphone users are eagerly awaiting the next version of Google's Android OS officially called KitKat. Since the company announced Android 4.4 KitKat, there have been speculations on the features and the UI that the new OS will bring in. Now, has leaked images which it claims provide first look of the new OS.

The alleged screenshots provided by a user show a revamped phone dialer and messaging apps on KitKat. The phone dialler appears to sport a lighter colour scheme in comparison to the dark one in Jelly Bean. There is also a new keyboard design and the status bar too seems to have lighter colour scheme for the icons, which seems to be varying depending on the application that is in use that time.

The messaging app too seems to have undergone a change with the icon on the main menu resembling a Google+ icon. The main app has seen its controls get shifted to the top right instead of the bottom setup that is there in the current Android version.

Tech junkies are speculating that there will be significant changes in the 4.4 version. However, the alleged screenshots don't show any functionality changes.

Google is trying to make it easier for everyone to work together, even those who "haven't gone Google yet."
The company on Thursday announced that its Quickoffice mobile app, for viewing and editing Microsoft Office files, is now free to anyone with a Google account. Previously, the app was only free to Google Apps for Business subscribers -- everyone else had to shell out $14.99 for the pro version or $19.99 for the pro HD version.
As a bonus, Google is offering an extra 10GB of Google Drive storage for the next two years to anyone who signs up their Google account for the new Quickoffice app by September 26.

Quickoffice for iOS and Android lets users create, view, and edit Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files on their mobile devices. The app is also integrated with Google Drive so files can be stored and accessed across devices.
Google added a few new features to the app as well, including the ability to create ZIP folders and view charts in PowerPoint and Excel. Google said people already using Quickoffice for Google Apps for Business can update to the new app.
Google acquired Quickoffice in June 2012 and has been expanding its availability ever since. While the company is clearly investing resources in the software, its long-term goals still appear aimed at transitioning people to using its Web-based productivity tools.
"Converting old files to Google Docs, Sheets and Slides is still the easiest way to share and work together, and we're working every day to make the files you convert look better," Alan Warren, engineering VP of Google Drive, wrote in a blog post.

How to install apps outside of Google Play

Google has removed apps from the Play store for a number of reasons, the most common being that they violate the company's policy. Once an app is removed, however, all hope isn't lost.

Here's how to do it:

Setting up your device

From your smartphone or tablet running Android 4.0 or higher, go to Settings, scroll down to Security, and select Unknown sources. Selecting this option will allow you to install apps outside of the Google Play store. Depending on your device, you can also choose to be warned before installing harmful apps. This can be enabled by selecting the Verify apps option in the Security settings.

On devices running an earlier version of Android, go to Settings, open the Applications option, select Unknown sources, and click OK on the popup alert.

Downloading an app

The next step will be finding an Android package file, also known as an APK, which is the way Android apps are distributed and installed. This is where some people usually run into trouble. Never, and I mean ever, use sideloading as a way to pirate applications; doing so will likely result in your Android device getting a virus. You should only download APK files from trusted developers and companies.

For example, Grooveshark, a free online music streaming service, previously had an app in the Play store. After a dispute with Google, however, the app was removed. Grooveshark now offers the app on its Web site for users to sideload.

The process

You can either download the APK file on your mobile device or on your computer, although the latter is a little more difficult. To get started, download an APK file using either Google Chrome or the stock Android browser. Next, go to your app drawer and click Downloads; here you will find the file you just downloaded. Open the file and install the app.

If you downloaded the APK file on your computer, the process is slightly different. You must connect your Android device to the PC and enable USB mass-storage mode. The next step is to drag and drop the file onto your device. Then, using a file manager, such as Astro or ES File Explorer, you can locate the file on your device and install it.

Remember to be careful when downloading apps outside of official Android marketplaces like Google Play and Amazon's Appstore.

Blackberry Messenger for Android and iOS to Launch on September 18th?

For a while now, speculations have been circulating about launching the much-awaited Blackberry Messenger (BBM) apps for Android and for iOS. Many rumors have pointed out that a version will hit the respective App Stores by the end of September. This date range could be accurate, as the application was submitted in iTunes Store a few weeks back

We’ve also reported that Blackberry scheduled an event on September 18th in Malaysia, where the applications may be announced. Also, at first it was thought that the event was taking place in Malaysia only, but Blackberry has since distributed additional invites for events on the same day in India and France as well.
Blackberry Messenger is a messaging application that is exclusively available on Blackberry devices, though versions for other platforms were announced earlier this year, without an official ETA. Blackberry for Android is already available for beta testers in Blackberry Beta Zone, and we’ve seen a Blackberry executive who shared some insights about the expected launch of BBM at a launch event in India – the end of September.
Will we see BBM for other operating systems on September 18th? Or is it the rumored Blackberry Z30? We’ll find out soon.

Google has bought ne'er-do-well mobile app Bump in a bizarre move worth $40m.Bump The File Sharing app is similar with bluetooth and GPS.

The concept seemed sound enough - bump two phones together to pass data from one phone to another. Sound familiar? It should, because it's the same concept behind near field communications (NFC) in mobile handsets. However, the forerunner of NFC technology used by Bump works on a mixture of Bluetooth and GPS, meaning that best results are achieved if the following criteria are met:

Both parties have the app and have it configured.
Both parties have Bluetooth on, or better still have previously paired handsets.
Both parties have GPS on and clear line of sight to GPS satellites.
The wind is blowing the right way.
There is an "R" in the month.

That wasn't surprising, as despite attracting corporate investment Bump never really caught on, meaning that finding another Bump user at the appropriate time was nearly impossible.
So what does Google plan to do with the Bump technology? Well, nothing initially, and service is expected to carry on as usual for the moment.
Clues might be found in the blog post announcement of Google's acquisition from Bump co-founder and MD David Lieb, who said, "We strive to create experiences that feel like magic, enabled behind the scene with innovations in math, data processing, and algorithms." Or then again, maybe not.

Chirp, the clever app that lets you share pictures and more using ‘digital birdsong’, hits Android

Chirp, an app that lets you share links and photos using short bursts of ”digital birdsong”, has launched on Android.

Rather than sending pictures via messages, emails, social networks or storage services like Dropbox, Chirp lets you send links to webpages, pictures and other content to multiple people at once, provided they also have the Chirp app installed and open.
Interestingly, it also means that Chirp can receive data via sound too from almost any source, like a PA system, for example.
To mark the release, Chirp has partnered with Topshop for London Fashion Week and will be revealing exclusive images ‘Chirped’ from speakers hung in the trees of Regents Park for VIP guests at Topshop’s fashion show.

Google Announced the next version of the Android to be Android 4.4 KitKat .We are expecting to come with a lots of enhaced feature in it.

10. Improved security
Despite its popularity, security is still a core problem for the Android platform. This is primarily down to the Google Play store being a infiltrated with apps containing malware malware, but isn’t the only cause.

Most recently, Bluebox Security discovered a “Master Key” flaw, which means that 99 per cent of devices vulnerable (900 million) can be hacked. A patch is being rolled out as we speak, it’s another major sign that Google needs to do more to ensure its devices are safer.

9. Performance profiles

We would like to see Google step up and offer a variety of modes built into Android, especially for its Nexus range. These will allow the user to save battery overnight, turn up performance when carrying using the device for gaming/multimedia and settings for in between.

A native app would be useful to people who are frequently in meetings as they can quickly check whether a voicemail they have received is urgent.

Android has been at the forefront of mobile computing when it comes to features such as multitasking. Users are able to run multiple apps at the same time and flick between them.It would be great to see Google take the initiative and make a multitasking feature like this standard across all high-end handsets.

Already a hit for iOS, Dots came to Android and Kindle Fire this week. Since its launch on iOS in May, the app has been downloaded more than 5 million times, and played more than 1 billion.

Yahoo Weather for Android

Yahoo’s beautiful weather app for iOS finally made its way to Android this week. The app incorporates images from Flickr into its weather forecast, showing you what a “cloudy day in New York” actually looks like. The app also includes 10-day and 24-hour temperature forecasts, interactive radar, satellite, heat and wind maps and animated sunrise and sunset times.

Gigwalk for Android

Gigwalk brought its mobile job service to Android this week. The app lets users pick up small jobs around their city that can often be completed on the phone itself. For instance, someone might be paid $5 to photograph a local business for a mapping company, or $10 to check the display of a particular product at their local grocery store.

Disney Infinity: Action!

Disney Infinity: Action! lets you create video clips starring your favorite characters from Disney’s upcoming Infinity console experience. The app uses augmented reality to bring the characters into your environment. Users get instant access to a clip in which Mr. Incredible appears to burst through the wall, and additional scenes — for a total of 30 — can be purchased within the app using coins earned from interacting with characters in the game portion of the app.

Nextdoor

Nextdoor, the social network designed specifically for neighborhoods, rolled out its Android app on Wednesday. The app connects neighbors, so they can easily discover what’s happening in town; that way, they can participate in activities such as organizing a neighborhood crime watch, helping find a lost pet or getting a suggestion for a repairman.

PayPal

PayPal updated its mobile app this week, allowing users to find nearby stores and restaurants that accept PayPal, as well as the ability to order ahead from restaurants. Around 1,000 restaurants will offer the service, with more expected to participate in the future.

GoPro

GoPro updated its app for iOS and Android this week. The new version of the app adds the ability to view photos and play back videos, as well as copy photos and videos to a GoPro album on your device.
The app already provides full control over all of your GoPro camera’s functions, as well as a live preview of your video, so you can frame it appropriately.

Zagat

Zagat‘s app got a facelift this week, and now sports a brand new look.

Google Earth for Android app now lets you rediscover all of your geotagged Google+ photos

If you’re the type of person who travels a lot and captures all of your photos with a smartphone, tablet, or other device with geotagging capabilities, the latest update to the Google Earth for Android app should pique your curiosity.

In short, it’s now possible to view geocoded Google+ photos directly within the app. Sign in with your existing Google account and tap the Earth logo in the top left-hand corner to bring up the sidebar. At the bottom, under ‘More Maps’, a new selection should appear for Google+ photos.
Small thumbnail previews will now appear on top of Google Earth’s existing satellite imagery. Tap on them once and the app will launch a full-screen slideshow detailing everything saved in that Google+ photo album or location. It’s a whimsical experience and a lovely way to peruse old travel photos.

A Refined Note

With the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung upgrades its stylus-packing big-screen phone with a 5.7-inch full HD screen and some new tricks for power users. It ships Sept. 25 worldwide.

Compared with Previous Notes and Galaxy Mega

The Note 3 is the only model that is full HD (1,920 x 1,080).

S Pen

The S Pen returns in the Note 3, with new features.

Pen Window is even better than Air Command.Just by drawing a window on the screen, you can create a new application window for, say, browsing or calling up the calculator. When you're done, closing the window simply takes a tap with the stylus, and it doesn't interrupt the apps already running on-screen.

Air Command

One of the new features is Air Command, which calls up an S Pen-specific menu if you press the stylus button while hovering over the display.

If you hover the stylus over the screen and then press the button, the semi-circle menu appears with options. Each one is illuminated as you hover, and tapping will activate the command. Action Memo, which lets you use the stylus to perform actions such as making a call, and S Finder, which can search the phone for handwritten content, strike me as the most useful.

Flipboard Interaction

The special Flipboard app for Samsung's Note devices, which interacts with Air View hovering of the stylus, works well with the Note 3.

Window Case

The Note 3's window case could be better -- it has trouble staying closed -- but it has a nice leather-like feel.

Capacitive Buttons

Like other Samsung phones, the capacitive "hard" buttons on the bottom light up only when you press or hover over them.

Galaxy Gear Apps

The apps that you can use with the Galaxy Gear are in a separate folder.

While the Galaxy Note 3 can perform some interesting new tricks, the thing that will matter to all users is the beautiful, full HD screen. Even if you never slip the stylus out of its slot, you'll appreciate the sharper display. For power users, features like Air Command could save a few valuable seconds while performing key tasks, and Multi Vision is an eyebrow-raising — if gimmicky — feature.

We’ve reported on countless rumors surrounding the next Nexus device from Google, and many believe it will be another LG device similar to the LG G2 announced last month. A few rumors suggested the LG G2 will be the base for the Nexus 5, just like the 4, but the design will closely resemble the new ASUS-made Nexus 7. Complete with a matte back and a similar design around the camera.
You might see that the phone is much larger than the Nexus 4 .
The nexus Is written in other direction than the nexus 4.

If previous reports and the LG G2 base for a design is correct, here’s what to expect.
