Plunky & Oneness struck gold with their CD release, "Plunky & Oneness 2012 Collectors' Box Set." This is a greatest hits compilation that takes cuts off their 12 full albums recorded between 1988 and 2008. The smartest move was putting the compilations onto 5 separate CDs, each genre-specific. The first half of the compilation is a lot more groovy and relaxed. For instance, "Forever In A Moment" (from the 'Love Songs' CD) is a great mood-setter with good, slow rhythms and expert saxophone. But my favorite part of the box-set has to be the 4th CD,'P Phunk.' These tracks have a lot of flavor, and vocals with feeling. "Got To Move Something" is an especially good example of the funky beats Plunky has to offer. Having this collector's CD box set is like having a well-oiled machine helping you pick the perfect mood. Whether you want urban groove, cool jazz, love songs, hard-core funk, or Afro world, Plunky & Oneness are here to help with "Plunky & Onesness 2012 Collectors' Box Set."

"In My Soul" is the latest release from the gifted pianist, Antonia. This album is a beautifully sounding collection of Antonia's personal classical compositions. It features just her on the piano, and truly is a recording of the highest quality. In "Once in a Wintertime" she plays hypnotically as her left hand plays the lower register with somber tonality while the right hand caresses the keys with a melody that is smooth and emotive creating a melodic and interesting composition. On the song, "After All Spring" she gives us a pleasantly prancing and hopeful piano piece. Another song, "Joy" Antonia employs the entire piano well, and usually at once, in a complex and moving song. "One-Trick Pony" by Texas Heat (Country Artist from Germany)

"One-Trick Pony" is the latest Honky-Tonk Country album released by Germany's own Texas Heat. It is an album filled with clean sounding, at times antiquated, Country songs that celebrate the life style and issues of the western man. "All Alone And Blue" is a slow moving western song that features wonderful steel guitar playing and a chorus featuring a wonderful harmony of Country-crooning. In "Drivin' Down The Road" we find a toe-tapping, Honky-Tonk tune, about the interesting life of being a trucker. Then for "Old Black Record" the band gets energetic as they deliver a rousing song that might make you want to get up and square dance. Overall, it's an album that makes good use of the old-fashioned Country-style guitar and drum playing, put together with just enough of a modern edge. If you are a fan of Johnny Cash or even the Drive-by Truckers then "One-Trick Pony" is an album that your ears need to meet.

Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock and his debut CD, "Funkmeister" is an album that spans fluently across many genres. At some moments it's urban and jazzy, other times it's 80's music with some world beat flare. Female vocals, keyboards, and a drum machine make for some smooth, catchy, and fun songs. The album is best represented by the track, "Out of Control," as it has a fast paced world drum beat, jazzy saxophone, and a funky bass line that really moves. The stand out single is "All I Know" as this song offers a slower moving beat with soft and sweet vocals. "Funkmeister" will surprise you at every turn, from its ever-changing genre, to samples of George W. Bush speeches and is definitely a great album to hear if you're looking for a variety of music with vibrant rhythms.

"Written Roads" by The Shells is a strong and powerful Alternative Country/Rock album. The CD, being Alternative Country, fuses in many Rock style elements with melodies that are pure Country in which this creates a hard-hitting and fully enjoyable listen. The opening track, "All I Need is Time" stays true to the band's down-home Country roots both lyrically and melodically. The harmonies in this track fits perfectly while each note played by the acoustic guitar complements the vocals as the emotional lyrics are of pain and the need and will to recover. The song, "I Will Believe You" relies on a progressive tempo and ambient notes that puts the listener in a smooth trance. Country is well-showcased in this album and for those fans who love bands like the Dixie Chicks and singers with the same range and tone must experience the exceptional compositions and lead vocals/harmonies of "Written Roads."

"Endlines and Punchrhymes" is the latest release by the talented, Modern Folk group Blackbirds. Right from the start this album will take you to a place where you can relax and enjoy the emotive lyrics and soft percussive beats. Lead vocals are rich and pure as you can hear on songs such as "This Street, That Man" and "Can't Find My Way Home." Heartfelt lyrics reflect memories of times past on the song "Hometown Heroes" while acoustic guitar gently swirls around this interesting melody. As an added bonus, check out the terrific remakes of "The Mighty Quinn" (original by Manfred Mann) and "Cinnamon Girl" (original by Neil Young) as these songs offer a great nostalgic throwback. Superb production as the instruments come across clean and crisp and never overpowers the laid-back vocals. "Salt of the Earth" by Mobetta Loretta (Folk Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

"Salt of the Earth," Mobetta Loretta's latest CD, would be best described as a modern folk album with a dash of southern rock. Yet it is much more than that because it is such an ambitious and creative work; it was recorded as a concept album with all the songs being inspired by the 1954 album also titled "Salt Of The Earth." In "Copper Pit Miner," Mobetta sings to us about being a copper miner in an upbeat, danceable folk-blues song that features great harmonica. "I Am the Salt of the Earth" is a song in which Mobetta opts to croon to us over a pleasant combination of acoustic guitar and string section. For "Local 809" she sings about antiquated union life over a more modern and toe-tapping blues beat. The songs on this album stand up on their own, as they are great contemporary expressions of a past generation; yet when one factors in that each song is part of an overall theme it really adds substance. So check out Mobetta Loretta's CD, "Salt of the Earth," if you want to hear great folksy blues stories of a day gone by.

"Island Ecstasy" by Frank Tuma (Latin Artist from Florida(FL))

"Island Ecstasy," the new CD from Frank Tuma, is designed to transport us all to the warm Caribbean Islands. It is an instrumental album replete with all the variety of Caribbean style percussive instruments, guitars, and piano, accompanied with a heavy emphasis upon the upbeat and expressive steel drum. On the first track, "Caribbean Dancing," there is a quick and excited beat over which we hear talented steel drumming played at a speed that will baffle and excite the ears. "A Bit of Africa in the Caribbean" is a song that lives up to its title as it is a cool blend of African and Island drum sounds, with flutes and steel drums doing the singing. For the song, "Living My Dreams," Frank slows it down a little and uses his island rhythms as a relaxant. Whether you are already a fan of the sounds of the Caribbean Islands, or appreciate when an album attempts to mentally transport you to another place, then you should give the "Island Ecstasy" CD a try.

"Mad Forms & Twisted Poses" by R. Scott (Rock Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

"Mad Forms & Twisted Poses," by R. Scott, is a sensationally-made Rock/Americana CD. The beginning of the album has more upbeat, honky-tonk rhythms while, toward the end, the vocalist's New Orleans Blues influences are showcased. With many of the tracks performed using only a solo piano to back the vocalist's broad range, the effect is pure and natural, giving the CD a real sense of intimacy between the lyrics, the music, and the listener. The encouraging, "(Ev'rythin'll) Work Out Fine," employs serious piano talent while the vocals are gritty and piercing with the steady tempo of a hit and snare. The aptly named, "Somber Season," tells the story of expectation, loss, and hope in a pleasant and refreshing change to the toe-tappers that precede it; and, although it's slow, it showcases those rich, attention-getting vocals. All in all, this CD is recommended to all Blues/Bluegrass fans, and even those of singers like Randy Newman. It's full, unique, and thoroughly enjoyable.

"Yesterday" by Martin Folly (Reggae Artist from France)

Martin Folly and his CD single, "Yesterday (Reggae Version)" proves his creativity as an artist as he does his own Reggae spin on this classic Beatle's song. The song kicks in with solid guitar chords, crisp cowbell, a strong bass line, and organ riffs that bring together a bouncy and lively beat. Folly's voice is rootsy, rich, and deep which gives this song an interesting and melodic tonality of Jamaican style. As an added bonus, check out his other song, a remake of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town." The tempo is slightly slower but Folly's Reggae beat and percussive drums really make the scene. There is also a terrific guitar solo swirling around syncopated rhythms giving a vibe of energy and enthusiasm. Fans of Reggae music will thoroughly appreciate these wonderful refreshing remakes.

"Sleep When I Die" by L'NEE (R&B Artist from California(CA))

L'NEE's latest release is called, "Sleep When I Die," an appropriate title since one senses this girl would definitely choose the dance floor over her bed. L'NEE'S CD is a blend of urban R&B, Hip-Hop, and Reggaeton, all produced for loud playback to keep your hips shaking and feet moving. In "Dj Make Em Move," L'NEE sings her story in a clear and poppy style over a gritty and aggressive Reggaeton beat. For "Sleep When I Die," the album's title track, we get to hear her rhyming skills as she raps about her career over a stomping hip-hop instrumental. On "Chilly," L'NEE shows off her vocal talents, singing over a more reserved urban R&B rhythm (but one that is still very danceable). At times this CD reminds one of old TLC, as L'NEE likes to employ some 90's style sounds which she combines with her modern edge. For people who enjoy dance parties, or maybe just making their car feel like a club, L'NEE's "Sleep When I Die" CD just might be something you would enjoy.

"Well I Never..." by JustDave (Pop/Rock Artist from England)

That JustDave rocks with authority is clear, but their excellent new CD, "Well I Never…", also showcases the band's capacity for delivering solid pop-rock tunes that are as immediate as they are enduring. With meaningful lyrics, tightly layered harmonies and biting, guitar-driven arrangements, "Well I Never…" finds JustDave mixing some distinctly '80's-era pop sounds ("Professional Victim" & "The Inconvenient Truth") with Classic Rock sensibilities ("Hard To Breathe" and "I Can't Be Wrong All the Time") in a seamless, 12-song collection that's strong from start to finish. Other highlights include the Blue Oyster Cult-like "Fractured" and the echo-laden power ballad, "When It All Comes Down," but throughout the album JustDave's musical instincts prove spot-on. "Number Theory" by Richard Potter (Classic Rock Artist from North Carolina(NC))

Demonstrating a real mastery of his '50's and '60's influences, Richard Potter's latest CD, "Number Theory," is a thoroughly satisfying pop-rock hybrid album that succeeds on all levels. From echoes of '60's-era Neil Diamond (CD-opener, "Tell the Angels I Love You") to American Grafitti-era rock'n'roll ("Love is Blind") to the wonderfully Pulp Fiction-esque feel of the title track (featuring a terrific Herb Albert-inspired trumpet lead), Potter's solid sense of melody and pop dramatics gives his new 10-song collection a real cinematic flair. Elsewhere, "So Long" is a tuneful ballad blending Music Hall-style banjo strumming with the melancholy strains of cello, while "AM Radio (Everything I Need To Know)" is a driving rocker that's as convincing as the singer-songwriter's lighter, more pop-oriented songs. With an abundance of captivating melodies, interesting arrangements and solid performances, "Number Theory" is a terrific CD that showcases Richard Potter's original and contemporary musical vision to best effect.

"Fun Out of Life" by April Hall (Jazz Artist from Boston, Massachusetts(MA))

"Fun Out of Life" is the most recent release from the fabulous and highly talented Jazz vocalist, April Hall. Hall's voice has the ability to not only be in constant key but also adds considerable spice to each variety of Jazz song she attempts; which range from soulful ballads, to bluesy renditions, to high energy pieces. In "Crazy He Calls Me," April interacts with some well played Jazz piano and just a dash of drums to deliver a mellow tune that shows off how her voice can be warm and inviting. Another song, "Boogie Woogie Blues (I May Be Wrong)" Hall gets a little groovier with a toe tapping, more Bluesy beat accompanied by a dynamic singing style. Then the song, "The Face I Love" we find a more traditional Jazz piece that features a fluttering flute line that subtlety jumps around Hall's velvety vocals. If you like Jazz for its pure musicianship or for how it can at times settle you down and take your mind back to another era, then you should acquaint yourself with April Hall and her singing prowess featured on the album, "Fun Out of Life."

"Illusions" by Terry Lynn Tschaekofske (Instrumental Artist from Utah(UT))

Terry Lynn Tschaekofske and his debut solo album, "Illusions," is a collection of songs in which he lets his expert guitar playing be placed center stage. The album is recorded using a variety of guitars; numerous types of sublime electric and acoustic sounds are featured on different tracks, yet on each track Terry is not accompanied by other instruments at all. He wants the listener to calmly take in the subtle and nuanced sounds of his prized instrument. On the song, "Who Was She," we hear an electric guitar slowly croon a love song. The song "Santa Cruz Lady," features an acoustic guitar employing a more upbeat sound with a slight blues influence. On the track, "Inamorata Mirage," we hear Terry's smooth double picking as he plays what comes off as a pleasing antiquated melody. This album is wonderful for relaxing and reflective moments; when one is curled up by the fire or to have playing nicely in the background for a family BBQ. If you enjoy tranquil yet talented music or simply are a fan of instrumental guitar compositions than "Illusions" is an album that you would enjoy hearing.

"Far Away Land" by Panayotis Terzakis (World Artist from Greece)

Panayotis Terzakis' strong and powerful bass voice will impress you on the album "Far Away Land." In the popular world of auto-tune and muddying music with keyboard loops and samples, the album, "l-10 Assassins" by the talented Hip-Hop/Rap group SOUTHWEST CONNECTION is a breath of fresh air. SOUTHWEST CONNECTION made a terrific album that you can play front to back at a party and you won't have to worry that your friends won't like the music. The instrumentation on this album ties together the sharp and flowing rhymes this group delivers with smooth and suave expression. "Fast Life" has synth strings and drum beats that groove to the well crafted word play. Tracks like "Reppin' My Block" and "The Jungle's Where I Stay" are best played with the volume on 11 and you may want to crank up the sub-woofer. If you're looking for some honest Hip-Hop/Rap with some modern feel and some old school flavor, you've found it on the CD "l-10 Assassins."

Callahan paints pictures with lyrics like "...wildly rummaging through button-down clouds and in pot bellied raindrops smothering the haunted beating of your nightstand clock" on the track "Sweet Dreams Earth." Even though the album is focused around the spoken poems, the instrumental background deserves credit as the cast of musicians deftly perform with emotive tonality. For instance, listen as the sweet and tender electric piano and soulful saxophone cascade around the poetic words on "Slide, Slide, Slide." "Empty Swings" gives a listener great imagery with its poetic words and is complemented by wonderful music making it an album well worth having.

"Transformations" by David C Deal (Spiritual/Rock Artist from Ohio(OH))

David C Deal's latest album, "Transformations," uses a beautiful blending of genres in an attempt to give his audience an inspirational and uplifting musical experience. This record is produced song to song; some tunes are Jazzy, some are Rock songs and still others are Broadway-like ballads. The opening track, "Graceful," is an uplifting, instrumented song that centers on an alluring flute playing a melodic melody. On the song, "First Contact" we hear Deal discuss his feelings about God over an energetic, guitar-lead, Rock ballad featuring a string section. Then, on "Flowing Deep In The Night" we encounter a slow moving Jazz song placed behind the vocals of a talented female singer. So while Deal may jump from musical genre to musical genre within "Transformations," the album is held together by his goal of addressing life's largest issue while being uplifting and motivating. Check out this album if you enjoy music that tries to take on intense and deep issues or if you would like to hear how one man can express himself in various musical styles.

"Movements in the Moment" by Rhonda Lorence (Classical Artist from North Carolina(NC))

"Movements in the Moment" is the latest release from the gifted viola player Rhonda Lorence. This album was recorded employing the use of numerous vocal and instrumentation combinations that definitely qualify the sound as "Neo-Classical." However, in this album Rhonda skillfully uses the viola as the central pivot point for beautiful musical storytelling and mental picture painting. On the song, "Trail of Tears" we hear the viola placed front and center as it gradually sings a sad song which your ears will follow as if it was a tuneful tale. Then on other tracks such as "Doria" the viola takes a background seat to fluttering and airy female vocals simply singing the name Doria. Another outstanding track, "Shift it" Rhonda gives us a weave of viola picking and vocals over a snazzy yet subtle drum line. "Movements in the Moment" is an eclectic mix of classical basics meshed with modern experimentalism, with a seemingly constant emphasis on expressing emotions and stories through the music. If you are a fan of expressive Neo-Classical music or simply the viola itself then "Movements in the Moment" should be on your list of music to hear.

"These Waters" by Jan Peters & The Monday Night Project (Folk Artist from Washington(WA))

From the very first song, "These Waters" the recently released album by Jan Peters & The Monday Night Project, promises a collection of light, poppy, and Progressive Folk/Bluegrass style album. Peter's vocals are well complimented by some sweet and charming female vocals throughout the album while the lyrics are vibrant and uplifting. Among other tracks, "Shaking Away" has some great use of harmonica during the solo. They break out of any single genre by changing the pace with tracks like "Drumming in the Night" that offers a Blues/Soul like quality and "Primera Visita" with a catchy "cut time" bouncy feel. "These Waters" is a catchy and well-made album and is definitely an album worth hearing.
