Topical Review: The Battle of The Bible .

We often gloat about our eloquence and bravery at having read through the whole of the Holy Bible in one single year. I’d say, how commendable. Yet, how fresh is this Word in us on a daily basis?
Meanwhile without any iota of prejudice or insinuations whatsoever, the evidence of such accomplishment is a far cry from the unfelt impact in our society at large.

Beginning from the covert of our family altars to the Chapels; How factual is this verse in Daniel evident in our conversations and relationship with the outside world: “They that know their God shall do exploits”?

Yet, the fact remains that right from the arduous era of the Apologists, to the renaissance, through the crusades and other conquests; many have had to pay dearly with their lives. And these exploits continued up until just 400years ago!
But by Sovereign appointment, a royal imprimatur for the translation of the Holy Bible was eventually issued.

The battle for the preservation of the Holy Bible which we freely enjoy various versions today therefore, is a testament to the fact that God’s immutable Words is beyond an anthology of ancient literature or historical fables!
Nowadays, we have various versions which have emanated from the Original King James Version. To be candid, the daily reading (because of some books and unclear chapters) routine can sometimes become dreary as a result of time. work. Or simply as a result of lack of understanding. Moving on from the paper prints, there are loads of digital audio and downloadable Bible apps software at our disposal to meet the pace of our computer age. I’d gladly recommend these –YouVersion,Olive Tree, Beiks,Scourby's and more for use on various cellphones and tablet platforms (Androids,iPads/iPhones etc).

While the versatility of these products remains inexhaustive, none in my opinion comes close to the satisfaction and the simplicity of Zondervan’s KJV Audio Bible(Dramatized) Kit.
It often prompts such enhanced mental picture of the passage (even whilst you drive, cruise or screech) to help the listener focus and not wander off.
Hence, as we head out through the year resolved to be that believer armed with the Word of Truth and ready to dispense God’s timeless Truth (because you’d only share that refreshing slice out of the fullness of His fresh Loaf in you) to the thirsting soul sitting next to us on the train, in the coffee shop, or even at work; Let’s remember that we are the Bible that is daily been read-that Ambassador- and not our Biblical heroism!

Book Review: The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson.

Within a typical office setup, it is the norm. Scheduling or circling a pending target area is tenable.
In terms of praying through, there are more odds at stake than imagined. This is simply because; even Heaven and hell have vested interest in the outcome of the least of prayer offered!
I do appreciate the allusion of the Legend of Honi The Circle Maker to praying specific prayers, from Mark Batterson’s perspective yet, I must say, using such a character –like Balaam of Beth Peor- makes it a very contentious piece.

The Universal Cliché embraced within the church has always been to “Pray until Something Happens –P.U.S.H", and still is. However, majority of believers fail to incorporate one fundamental bit before engaging in the spiritual Art of Praying through their issues.

And this simply is, first finding out the Mind of the Spirit Of God! Whether the whole venture is in God’s perfect will or simply ours!
This is why blunt feed backs from some frustrated “pray-ers” come across like – “it’s like a useless exercise”. This is understandably painful and awful!
Ironically, such believers may quite easily have been praying amiss or outside of God’s will. In otherwords, what is the intrinsic motive for wanting that big dream or ambition? Will it bring glory to God as in the case of Honi? Or is it in His permissive will as in the case of David (after he fasted & prayed hoping that God would spare the life of the little kid as a result of his adulterous venture)?

Besides our inability to hear from God or discern his guidance instructing us to either hold on, pray harder, or an outright No: remains a sore point!
Often times, we forget that Prayer is War. Even Jesus Christ stressed the strategy needed, “Take the Kingdom (what’s ours) by force”; there’re no alternatives! Fortunately, Mark’s adroit storytelling style attempted to convey all these together in The Circle Maker.

Sharing along personal experiences and various anecdotal instances with his bible teacher’s mannerism clued on, Mark Batterson's The Circle Maker would make a good catalyst for learning the strategies on praying through to know God’s mind concerning, even those niggling visions playing about on our minds as well as staying victoriously unperturbed through the hushed periods!

Reflections: The eyes of the Spirit .

Ignorance, according to the Law is no excuse. Similarly being tactless is a recipe for spiritual casualty. While these two stand a chance of possible recovery, the spiritually blind on the otherhand is a foregone conclusion!
A sensitive glance around our secular environment is enough to startle any discerning believer. The global economic quagmire above all other affairs, threatening to sink entire governments and nations in one gulp, is definitely one inescapable headliner. With no water-tight recovery measures in view, the unspeakable prospect stares one in the face like an ominous volcano waiting to erupt!

Yet Scriptures expressly enjoin that we be of good cheers. It even commands us to stay focused on things above, knowing that we’re only sojourners here! Without any hint of stupor, appropriating these assurances would sound an impossible instruction to abide by in the face of defeat.

However, casting our minds back in time would reveal a period when only the spiritually sensitive could see farther. And his legacy still stands till date.

After leading a peaceful boycott to protest segregation on the buses in 1955, MLK Jnr. finally paid a high price. Having endured every atrocity and assault possible, Dr. King still got murdered!

He didn’t need to show-off any attitude of his. Neither did he have to prove how spiritually sensitive he was. It was reflected in his character. It portrayed Christ-like principles and such maturity by refusing to retaliate any of the evil done to him!
He was obviously inspired by his spiritual sights which registered indelible visions in his spirit like those scriptures above!

How alive and steady are those spiritual eyes today?

I have researched all available databases possible yet, I've been unable to find anybody daring enough(even the shaman knows better), or rather insane, to try and tame scorpions as domesticated pets( however cute they'd look, it takes just one sting to realize they have no room for love)!
Besides, I have delved futilely through all archives medical and otherwise for even the most humane reason, as to the source of such incredulous psychotic disorder that came upon a toddler. He calmly slit the throat of his own mother in her sleep!

Some are quick to associate all evil, disasters and mishaps to Satan. Progressives even choose to adopt that neutral stance. They'd rhetorically term it -"a case of moral depravity"!
But the agnostic mind in his skepticism, readily lampoons the blame on God for every form of evil mankind experiences!

Without getting overtly theological, or even intellectually philosophical but taking an eclectic view; renowned Author and speaker Os Guinness -explores and discusses this problem of Evil and Suffering as it occurred in recent History.

Simple or Sparkle?

It’s a simple ornament made of thin cheap metal and it looks quite out of place on our CHRISTmas tree. But each year I lovingly and safely nestle it amongst its expensive and sparkly peers, without a care as to how unglamorous it appears.

Many of our CHRISTmas ornaments have a story and an uncanny way of welling up emotion in me, but this certain one causes an intense stir.

You see the ornament is engraved with the name of my grandmother, Sara, and was given to me by my mother, who ordered it from Hospice, after Grandmama’s death. Yes, the months leading up to her death carry memories of a frail and failing grandmama, but that ornament carries my thoughts to sweet CHRISTmas memories of the past.

CHRISTmas Eve dinners in her home, laughing, singing, gathering and celebrating a year filled with blessings as we remembered the birth of our Savior. CHRISTmas mornings, she was always there participating with glee, in our raucous CHRISTmas happiness. Her gifts were always bank envelopes gently tucked into the pine needles of our CHRISTmas tree, fresh cut from the property she grew up on.

All memories of my Grandmama make my heart swell. You see she was my Jesus with skin on. She lived her life full of joy, serving others and approached life selflessly with an attitude of, “What can I do for you?”

Just months before she left us, even as the Alzheimer’s was robbing her mind she shared her love of Jesus with a sweet little old lady friend, who came to know the Lord – a divine appointment. The very next day that little old lady silently slipped away to meet in person the One Sara introduced her to just the day before.

At the time I wept, realizing that regardless of our own frailties and failings, God can still use those of us who are willing to do His work and are well practiced at hearing His voice...no matter our lack of sparkle in comparison to others.

A simple life lived for Him, a simple ornament in memory of Sara...a simple truth for you to ponder.

Let The Baby Grow Up This Christmas

When I was a little girl, Christmas seemed to take forever to make its way back to our little house on the end of a dirt road called Bull Run in northeast Louisiana. We kids started counting down the days before the leaves ever began turning. Sure, the adults said it came once a year but I wasn't so sure. Once Santa Claus left our humble abode it seemed like light years before he found his way back to the Delta.

That was a child's perspective. I imagine it hasn't changed all that much for today's kids. On the other hand, I'm operating under a completely different time frame these days. It seems like it was just yesterday when I pulled the boxes down from the attic and began pulling out the nativity scene, the miniature lights, and the keepsake ornaments. And now, just that fast-- Christmas Day is right around the corner. Soon the tree will be striped naked and the piled up presents will all be distributed. After a few more day it'll be hard to remember who got what from whom, and once again, I'll start packing all the decorations away for another year.

I was thinking about how bare and cold the house always looks after the holidays when I realized that, sadly, this scene would play itself out in many hearts as well. A lot of people will have had expectations that weren't filled and many of those same souls will be left with hurts that don't seem to heal. Unless this year is remarkably different from past seasons, my bet is, the New Year will bring magazines full of articles on combating depression and the talk shows will have experts on offering ways to fill the long days ahead and cure the winter blues.

I'm no expert, dear readers, but I'd like to offer you a suggestion that will go far beyond the creature comforts of a nice warm bath or a delicious bowl of hot soup. Your heart doesn't have to be bare and naked after the holidays. Do you want to know the real secret? It's simple, really. Don't pack up Christ with Christmas! As beautiful and special as the Christmas story is, it's only a part of heaven's miracle. The Christ child grew into a man and the man became a Savior.

This year, may we be determined to let the babe from Bethlehem live on in our hearts. If we'll allow Him to become the Messiah He was born to be, the joy of Christmas can be ours all year long.

Where is Comfort and Joy Found?

The year 2006 ushered unwelcome emotions into my life. My husband was unhappy in his job, two of my grown children were making poor choices, my mother-in-law was showing signs of Alzheimer’s, extended-family issues were surfacing, and I was writing a book. Things only got worse. Much worse.

Early in 2007, I was asked to represent the mentoring ministry for wives I founded, Beautiful Womanhood, and lead a women’s conference in Uganda, Africa. My husband wasn’t sure if traveling to Africa was a good idea, so we committed it to prayer. While we were listening for an answer, I sensed God asking me to fast from spending, except for groceries, for thirty days. Sometimes you know that you’ve heard God’s voice because you’d never have come up with those words on your own. This was one of those times. I’d never heard of a fast from spending. Tom needed no convincing that a fast from spending came directly from the mouth of God. He still gets excited just thinking about it!

During the fast, it became clear I had used spending as a way to gain a comfort fix. When I was spending money, I felt carefree and lighthearted. Instead of dwelling on the unpleasantness in my life, I was thinking of my purchases and how they would bring me pleasure. Not until I stopped spending did I realize how short-lived the fix really was. During the fast, when I felt the urge to spend—to anesthetize my pain—I pictured myself running into the arms of Jesus, the Great Comforter. Oh, what comfort I received!

One night, I told good friends my experience of gaining comfort through the power of the Holy Spirit rather than money. I exclaimed that I had never felt so comforted. One friend then told us about a dream he’d had shortly after hearing about the invitation from Uganda. After the dream, he had awoken and recorded the following thoughts:

“. . . this is for Sandy. Christ’s redemption of women is beautiful. Beautiful Womanhood is a result of redemptive wholeness. The visuals the ministry uses on the books, etc., are like a piece of beautifully veneered furniture. There is something going on with the ministry to the brokenness of abused women. In Uganda, there are hurting, abused women, and something is connecting their need and Beautiful Womanhood. Though there is nothing wrong with veneer, it is only the topping—the covering, and without good structure it is shallow and will not hold up. It is time to add a new depth to the ministry.”

Then these verses came to my friend’s mind:

All praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. You can be sure that the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NL

When my friend was finished sharing, everyone in the room broke down in tears, praising God for His work in my life. I’d learned to listen and God had spoken. I’d obeyed, and He’d acted. When He acted, I was changed.

Needless to say, I packed my bags and experienced some of the best days of my life in Uganda—offering God’s comfort to His troubled women.

Book Review: LIVVIE's Song by Sharlene Maclaren.

Have you ever paused to reflect on Mary’s state of mind on receiving “the greatest prophecy” that any virgin would ever conjecture?
Having the story of her life being interrupted by a total stranger was one, however ecstatic she’d be! Weighing up the consequence of the news about the pregnancy, and the heartbreaking stigma it’d attract was another.
Not to mention a cacophony of other popping prophecies surrounding the holy child she’d be responsible for.
It’d be impossible for her to confidently conclude that “very surely, God must have something up His sleeves, here”!
Similarly, Sharlene Maclaren’s fictional novel – “Livvie's Song” -adopts a familiar outlook. There comes a point in life where we feel we’ve run out of faith and has come to our wits end. This is such a point where we are obviously disillusioned about how to move our lives forward after one chapter has ended. And long for that new thing.

Livvie’s Song is beautifully scripted to remind us of God’s faithfulness to show up with unusual refill packages and irresistible recipes we’d have never considered on our own! This is as long as we’d be sensitive to pick God’s secret packet of aroma.

Livvie's Song dramatically sum up the life of Olivia Beckman, the widowed mother of two in this Fictional Romance Novel. An upbeat but hurting devout Christian searches for answers, meaning, and reasons to begin to believe again after God orchestrated the course of her life to cross the path with Will Taylor’s, an ex-convict!

As we revel in the season, it'd be worthwhile to reflect on those gifts [God's package and recipes for our success/happiness] we already have though it hardly feels like it, just yet!

A Christmas of Kindness

"You can give without loving, but you can¹t love without giving." Amish proverb

I do it every year.

I plan for a simpler, less stressful Christmas season and, every year, by Christmas Eve I'm exhausted! After our delicious and very-time-consuming-to-make traditional Swedish meal to honor my husband¹s relatives (think: Vikings), it's time to head to church. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but the last few Christmas Eve's, I have sent my husband and kids head off without me. The pull to spend an hour of quiet in the house feels as strong as a magnet.

It's odd. My children are young adults now. Wouldn't you think that Christmas would be simpler? Instead, it's just the opposite. Jugging schedules to share the grandbaby with the in-laws, trying to include our elderly parents at the best time of day for them, dancing carefully around recently divorced family members whose children are impacted by the shards of broken relationships.

The thing is: you can simplify your to-do list, but you can't really simplify people. We are just a complicated bunch.
Here's where I borrow a lesson about simplicity from the Amish. It's easy to get distracted with the buggies and the bonnets and the beards, but there's so much more to learn from these gentle people if you're willing to look a little deeper.

Yes, they live with less "stuff" and that does make for a simpler, less cluttered life. But it's the reason behind it that is so compelling to me: they seek to create margin in their life. Not just empty spacebut space that is available to nourish family, community, and faith. Their Christmas is far less elaborate than yours or mine, but what they do fill it with is oh so right.

Christmas comes quietly on an Amish farmhouse. There is no outward sign of the holiday as we know it: no bright decorations, no big tree in the living room corner. A few modest gifts are waiting for children at their breakfast place settings, covered by a dishtowel. Waiting first for Dad to read the story of Christ's birth from the book of Luke. Waiting until after a special breakfast has been enjoyed. Waiting until Mom and Dad give the signal that the time has come for gifts.

Later, if Christmas doesn't fall on a Sunday, extended family and friends will gather for another big meal. If time and weather permits, the late afternoon will be filled with ice skating or sledding. And more food! Always, always an abundance of good food. Faith, family, and community. That is the focus of an Amish Christmas.

And it's also how the story begins for A Lancaster County Christmas, as a young family prepares for Christmas. A winter storm blows a non-Amish couple, Jaime and C.J. Fitzpatrick, off-course and into the Riehl farmhouse. An unlikely and tentative friendship develops, until the one thing Mattie and Sol hold most dear disappears and then. Ah, but you¹ll just have to read the story to find out what happens next. Without giving anything away, I will say that I want to create a Mattie-inspired margin this Christmas season. Mattie knew inconveniences and interruptions that come in the form of people (big ones and little ones!) are ordained by God. And blessed by God.

Creating margin probably means that I won't get Christmas cards out until the end of January, and my house won't be uber-decorated. After all, something has to give. But it will mean I make time for a leisurely visit with my dad at his Alzheimer's facility. And time to volunteer in the church nursery for a holiday-crowded event. And time to invite a new neighbor over for coffee. Hopefully, it will mean that my energy won't get diverted by a frantic, self-imposed agenda. Only by God's agendathe essence of true simplicity.

And that includes taking time to worship Christ's coming at the Christmas Eve service. You can hold me accountable! This year, I will be there.

...Jesus Christ had called it a day that night in the Garden of Gethsemane?
This question requires serious thought before any presumptuous answer is proffered!

Reflecting on this passing year, we'd recount so many events which would have been a taboo or even a myth! But they actually did happen. From the unseating of incumbent Dictators, to the plethora of Earthquakes and Earth movements. Stagnating blizzards and Floods. Even the World Economies had its fair share of the battering. The list is endless and the damage:Colossal!

Yet Again; What If....we had prior information to avert these unbelievable events as they unfolded in cinematic fashion? Remember when Abraham veered off the track to Egypt. He only went there hoping to simply find food for his family [or better put-he sought a better life]. And there wasn't any sin in that. But, the consequence of his naive divergence then, is still being felt today in today's World!

Similarly Ben Walker's (Kevin Sorbo) life would look enviable. He had deserted his college sweetheart Wendy (Kristy Swanson) fifteen years earlier and left his calling to be a preacher in limbo, in preference for that business opportunity and a top-flight Banking career! But God wasn't having none of that[He even allowed Ben to go lead his pre-fabricated lifestyle]! After his seemingly new car mysteriously broke down on the road only to be helped by a tow truck driver named Mike (John Ratzenberger) the angel sent to show Ben, how messed up his life was.

Meanwhile Ben would equally have to learn about that, What if ..... in his life as well as a snapshot of how his Divine future ought to have charted.

Like Ben Walker, What if..... we never got a 2nd chance to put right the wrong things we've done. Or What If...we were victims of the Natural disasters/events that took place during the course of the year?
What would be our fate on Judgement day?
Besides, back to Jesus Christ. What if...... He had opted to pull the plug about His Mission to redeem mankind because he knew we'd flop over and over again?
Would God have come down Himself. Sent Angel Michael instead. Or even forced the Messiah to change His mind?
Just What If ....?

Maybe then All Hope would really be Lost!

Imagine a planet Earth with no Mountains. From the extinct Volcanic heights of Kilmanjaro,to the picturesque Table mountains and the rugged Rocky Grand Canyons.
And who can forget the indomitable Everest?

Remarkably, God in His Sovereignty still chooses to use similar 'situational' mountains to groom, mold, and cause His Children to become fit for purpose.

Unlike the hills and mountains of this World, Biblical characters like Gideon (overcoming lack of confidence), Joseph (overcame vicious cycle of rejection) and Elijah (overcoming depression) needn't embark on expeditions as we have them these days. The 'mountains' or obstacles they were to surmount, concealed their greatest strength, character and virtues that'd earn them top spots on God's Hall of Fame -Golden List!
And like David Roper explored, of these noteworthy characters in scriptures as well as present-day experiences, in the inspirational book "A Man To Match The Mountain"; it follows that Mountains aren't formed to stand tall against men. Rather it is men that are made to use Mountains to stand taller than their limitations! David Rope couldn't have put this any better....

I have seen the look of terror in men's eyes, unfaded by years of relative safety -the look of men who've been to hell and back and can't forget what they've seen. I've seen that same terrible look in the eyes of men who've had prostrate cancer, are victims of corporate downsizing, are facing bankruptcy and ruin, or have been abandoned by their wives. They, like most of the above characters, can say they've seen an enemy that will not fight fair!

Mountain climbing sports may not be for everyone but subduing our life's hurdles is a definite must, for all mankind!

Book Review: GOD'S STORY your story by Max Lucado

You try one door after another, yet no one responds to your résumé. No university accepts your application. No doctor has a solution for your illness. No buyers look at your house. Obstacles pack your path. Road, barricaded. Doorway, padlocked. Do you know the frustration of a blocked door? God uses closed doors to advance his cause. He marched Daniel out of Jerusalem so he could use Daniel in Babylon. And Jesus. Yes, even Jesus knew the challenge of a blocked door. When he requested a path that bypassed the cross, God said no. He even said no to Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane so he could say yes to us at the gates of heaven.

It’s not that our plans are bad but that God’s plans are better. Your blocked door doesn’t mean God doesn’t love you. Quite the opposite. It’s proof that he does.

A few weeks ago I was privileged to share the above excerpt from Max Lucado's book -"God's Story, Your Story" -with a Medical Surgeon friend of mine. He was at a crossroad in his spiritual life. Having exercised everything Christian-ly possible (as you'd imagine from prayers to retreats etc) to contend for his faith against the menacing threat of a formidable opposition at work, he felt vulnerable and likely losing the conquest. This prompted him to question his faith and entertain cynical thoughts about God. And the last thing such would want to listen to will be any sentimental sermonizing or preachy counselling session.

But his verdict succinctly sums up my review of "God's Story, Your Story". You only needed to hear the sober gratitude in his voice, afterwards.
He said "Thank you for sharing this with me. I can emotionally relate with the state of mind of those Bible characters. Though I know these scriptures but Max's real-life interpretation and insightful perspective has literally calmed my edgy nerves all the way. And I'll surely be picking up a copy of the book when it comes out!"

Interestingly, the Bible is filled with applicable stories of people whose lives and situations instinctively had to align themselves with God's non-deviating purpose. They like us, were consciously aware as being on a Divine adventure but oblivious of the distant purpose or eventual destinations. And this is realistically so, because God is the Ultimate Author not Us!

Being a Bible scholar or indeed a scribe is not enough! Many believers these days gloat publicly of their accomplishment as having read the entire Scriptures -from cover to cover. Inspite of such feat, they profess to be stalwarts at understanding the Holy Bible (though some presume they do. Thank God, we're no judges of another!); but ironically refuse to adhere to its application in their lives!

Such areas like why their problems persist, and there is clear need for deliverance. Or when the Windows of Heaven remain defiantly shut and unyielding to their self-formulated formulas.Meanwhile I'll forever respect the humility of those hoary-headed Ministers, who despite after fifty years of complete Bible studies and digestions, always challenge me. Therein lies the secret of power and the infallibility of how to tap from the wealth of God's Words. They are always fresh and new, morning after morning!

Similarly, as Larry Huch shares in his humorously educative book titled "Unveiling Ancient Biblical Secrets", many people remain in bondage/limitation only for as long as they refuse to understand the knowledge in God's Word! Exploring this topic from a Jewish perspective and analysis in order to dig out the jewels meant for the Children of the Kingdom in Scriptures, Larry shares honest and reflective secrets, from both personal and anecdotal sources, needed to begin appropriating unhindered blessings from Heaven.

And I'm sure to just leave us with this useful excerpt of Unveiling Ancient Biblical Secrets which I know a good many that'd benefit from it:

But Imagine God saying, "I want to open the windows of the Kingdom of heaven and pour such a blessing into your life that all your bills will be paid, your mortgage will be paid off, your car paid off; in fact, everything will be paid in full. It is an accepted datum to believe that God doesn't necessarily need our help to achieve His purposes here on Earth.
While this sounds undeniably true, He actually does need our loyalty to accomplish His Mission. How does this make us feel? Relevant or Wanted. Well, lets not sleep too long in that bubble! But rather, Let's cast back our minds at Abraham, Prophet Ezekiel,or even Apostle Paul. Could we possibly have endured to obey God on all the fronts these characters were subjected to, and still made it to the finish line?

Its all well and good to play the strong Christian when all our joints are well lubricated.
But what happens when we're left to endure the venom of pain, Isolation, financial helplessness; which includes battling ill-health issues like complicated thyroid problems?
That's when our zeal undergoes the quality assessment -litmus test!

Interestingly, there's an eternal purpose in scars and pain as Dave Gibbon enthuse in his book titled "XEALOTS".

Like the characters above, Dave enjoins believers to take a stand for God even through the unfamiliar and often in contrary flowing tidal situations. Its called Radical Christianity!
Sharing from personal accounts and anecdotal instances Dave adopts both pragmatic exegetical views alongside secular views (even citing quotes from Jay-Z's Rap) in exploring the XEALOTS. Smart thinking.

While the title may suggest that the topic is all about -bigots, zealots and religious eccentricity et al... I am of the opinion that grabbing a copy would challenge even the average believer to start living beyond denial being short-served as disciples!
And beyond this, it is crucial that we forever remain sensitively attentive to the rhythms of our inner spiritual pulse. By this, I mean the help and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. For without Him all our sacrifices of love may only amount to nothing but religion!

Book Review: Gary Inrig- TRUE NORTH

When God called Abram out of his father's house to the Promised Land, He equipped the Patriarch with only one instrument!
These days many find themselves constantly veering off the track. A good many feel lost and unsure of their final destinations. While those who seem to be sure of their bearing conduct regular self-assessment of themselves, to be sure they still have their road-map intact!
Conversely with today's technological advancement offering the touch-of-a-button access to ready-made (processed) information (Thank God for navigators, travel apps and even Satellites!), there seems to be a growing paradigm shift away from fervent spiritual sensitivity too!

In fact, there are more confused, baffled and challenged believers today than during Bible times.
And why Not? When Christian Persecutions, ill-Health, Suffering, and the overwhelming despondent feeling rarely miss the homes of some believers! While the lure of Magic (seeing that Prayer takes considerable time in getting results) and other Eastern extracts also is becoming increasingly acceptable as they offer temporal solutions. It is easy to slip off the road.

However the challenge we face lies in our staying resiliently focused as we wade through all distressing terrains unto victory. And this is achievable with God's uncompromising and traditional compass in hand. Only then would discovering the spiritual path to follow needn't be a gamble!

And as Gary Inrig addresses this topic further in his conversational yet thorough exegetical exploration, speaking about discovering God's Way in his book titled "True North". One can not but re-examine their bearing in this twenty-first century!

Call it Democratic Revolution. Or the fruit of the Arab Spring. One wouldn't be far from the Truth! Yet, the intrinsic catalyst that spurred the brave Pursuit for Change and Freedom (to break the yoke of dictatorship) as exhibited by the ordinary people of the Middle East, goes deeper than mere human revolt.

There's fundamentally an undeniable element of Divine Intervention and Spiritual Timing in the spectrum of things. And speaking of spiritual intervention, it is a sad fact that many believers no longer believe in angelic activities today!

But as Miranda Reid found out in L. Kuehlke's romantic-spurned Christian fiction Novel -"Pursuit" that these angels have always been around, involved in every step of her life since childhood. Crucially, Pursuit zeros-in on the need to understand our purpose and an embracing of one's calling including the gifts,love,hurts et al that come with it. Afterall a focused pursuit unto accomplishment is our destiny and why we're relevant in playing our part in God's Grand Design, here on Earth!

Assuming as a Berean Christian we're fascinated with proving the validity of the above claim -obviously the best place to start wouldn't be the Arts Museum! On the contrary a step back in time to physically walk through the Historical Land is one way to prick our imaginations.
