Relax and enjoy life. That is the secret to make you look younger at any age. No matter how hard life is if you learn to take things lightly and not so seriously, you will look younger.

Smiling makes you look younger for many years. You look younger and feel younger when you wear that lovely smile on your face.

Beautify your hair
Hair contributes a lot to the physical appearance of a person. If you want to look younger then you have to take care of your hair and have it trimmed regularly. A nice hair cut that accentuates the face attributes to a younger look as well.

Take care of skin
You will look younger if your skin is smooth and glossy. A healthy diet will keep your skin looking young.
Sound sleep and rest also helps your skin keep its fresh-looking texture.

Eat healthier
Eating healthy foods will help you to look younger. It is important that you maintain a healthy diet so that you will always be healthy.
Avoid too much salt, sweets, coffee and alcohol. Vegetables and fruit are full of antioxidants, which help eliminate free radicals and make you look and feel younger.

Take supplements of 800 mg of alpha-lipoic acid and 2,000 mg of acetyl-L-carnitine daily to look younger. These supplements in these amounts increase the energy of mitochondria that power cells.Taking vitamin D supplements is also important for keeping skin young.

Enjoy life
No matter what you are doing it is important that you enjoy life so that you will look younger. If you are enjoying your life then you will not be stressed.

Regular Exercise
Exercise can make you look younger because it keeps you healthy. The healthier you are, the younger you look so it is important that you have a regular exercise.

If you're overweight, lose those extra pounds. People should weigh what they weighed when they were 18. Lifting weights will help build muscle, which will help increase metabolism and keep you toned. The best way to measure your progress is to measure your waist and hips. Bodies tend to shift weight around as people age. Keeping weight from accumulating around the middle body area will help make you look and feel younger.

Be Sociable and Have Fun
Having lots of friends will keep you happy and busy, which will help you to enjoy life; thus helping you also to look younger.

There are many ways to solve those recurring problem areas that are both simple and easy to do and knowing these tips could save you a load of money!

Skin
Your skin will look young and healthy if you take proper care of it. So your first beauty tip is a healthy diet, which will supply your body with all the vital nutrients and vitamins needed to keep it looking beautiful. Refined foods containing processed ingredients like bleached flour, sugar, and oils can increase annoying skin irritations. Go instead for plenty of fruits and vegetables for a healthier, fresher face. A diet rich in vitamin C and low in carbohydrate and fats is needed as well for keeping younger looking skin longer.

When you smoke, oxygen does not rich your skin properly leading to damage to your collagen and elastin level in the skin. When you bath, do no use hot water but use cool water as that will save your skin from drying out and use soaps that are made of natural moisturizing elements.

Also understanding what type of skin you have is important for face health, because there isn’t a single beauty supply product, or remedy that can solve an unknown problem. Decide whether your skin is oily, dry, sensitive, aged, or a combination to achieve the best results. If you have oily skin, avoid moisturizers that contain heavy oils, but avoid products that absorb oils even more.

Exfoliating can be extremely helpful when it comes to unclogging pores, but don’t over scrub because the skin can tear leaving it open to dirt and infection causing a perfect breeding ground for acne and other blemishes.

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will ensure that your skin can remove harmful toxins at maximum efficiency. The experts recommend six to eight glasses per day, but certain natural teas, like green tea, can be a nice anti-oxidant alternative.

Sun damage can last a lifetime, but a simple sunscreen only takes moments to apply. Make sure to use a UV blocker made of natural ingredients, because certain products can be pretty harsh on delicate skin.

The last beauty tip for the skin and perhaps the most important is the power of sleep. There is real meaning behind “beauty sleep”. Our systems process most of our waste while we’re sleeping, which of course includes the skin. You’ll feel better and look better after a good night’s rest, so get some zzz’s (7-8 hours a night) and your skin will thank you.

Hair
To get that shiny and full hair you always wanted, do not wash your hair with hot water but rinse off with cold or cool water, which will seal the cuticles. That will add to the shine of the hair. Also do not shampoo the ends of the hair but only the roots. Trimming the hair ends regularly will prevent split end from happening. To stimulate the hair follicles and help in the growth of the hair, massage your scalp regularly as this will increase the circulation of blood to the area. The next hair care tip is using a wide toothed comb for detangling hair and also using natural boar-bristle brush. The latter one distributes the natural oils of your hair down its shaft while increasing your hair’s shine and strength.

Makeup
The last group of beauty tips is on how to put on your makeup to perfection. With perfect makeup, you can enhance the natural beauty of your face. To provide a natural glow to your face mix a little bit of liquid highlighter to your foundation. To provide that airbrushed look to your face, use a light-reflective particle enriched powder. One of the most important beauty tips that you should follow is using a concealer to cover up dark circles under the eyes and broken capillaries around your nose.

To contour the face, add a concealer or foundation that is a shade darker than your natural skin color under your cheekbone, on the sides of your nose and under your chin. To make the eyes "pop", use white or black eyeliner on the inner rims of your eyes. To add structure to your entire face, use a natural-looking pencil, powder or gel to define your eyebrows. Lastly a great beauty tip is for opening up your eyes is to use highlighter under the brow bones as well as on the inner corners of your eyes

The normal amount of body hair for women varies. However, If you have coarse, dark hairs growing on the face particularly on the upper lip, chin, and neck area, the condition is called hirsutism. This type of hair growth is more typical in men.

Androgens, the causes of such hair growth patterns are male hormones that include testosterone and are found in both men and women. Women normally produce low levels of male hormones (androgens). If your body makes too much of this hormone, you may experience unwanted hair growth that is coarse and dark. Most often, excess facial and body hair is the result of these abnormally high levels of androgens or male hormones in the blood. High levels of androgens causes hairs to grow faster and thicker. Both the ovaries and the adrenals produce androgens.

Causes of facial hair in women is not always easy to find. However, the most common cause of hirsutism seen is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Cysts on the ovaries might cause excessive facial hair in women. Women who have polycystic ovary syndrome also suffer from high levels of androgens and irregular menstruation. Other symptoms include acne, weight gain, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and infertility. Women who have polycystic ovary syndrome are usually treated through birth control pills, anti-androgen hormones and surgery.

Other causes of unwanted hair growth may include:
Cushing syndrome, which is a condition caused by having too much cortisol in the bloodstream that also causes excessive facial hair. Cushing's syndrome may also be caused by a tumor in the body, which would be treated through surgery and radiation. This condition may also be a side effect of corticosteroid medications.

Obesity and genetics also plays a role in unwanted face hair. Women who are overweight may also see an increase in facial hair. Fat traps androgens, creating a hormonal imbalance. Because weight gain and facial hair are a sign of other conditions and disorders, women should be thoroughly examined by a doctor to make certain that there are no other underlying medical issues. Along with other physical characteristics, ancestry and genetics plays a role in whether women have facial hair. If your grandmother and mother had to pluck their chins, chances are you will, too.

Finding the best treatments depends on the undying cause of the excessive hair growth. If the cause is hormone related then hormone treatments may be administered to help prevent new hairs from developing and to bring hormones back into balance.

For temporary hair removal, many women with mild hirsutism tend to pluck the unwanted hairs. Bleaching or lightening hair may make it less noticeable. Depilating agents are chemicals that dissolve the hair shafts on both facial and body hair and may also be used to remove unwanted hair. Electrolysis is another way to remove unwanted hair. Weight loss in overweight women can help to stop hair from growing as well. Shaving is another option, but is not recommended because the hair may appear thicker each time it grows back.

You may notice stray hairs on your face, neck, chin, upper lip, and extra hairs on your abdomen, arms or even legs. Some people think it's easier to get rid of body hair than to stop it from growing, however this is simply not true. Figuring out how to get rid of hair can be a frustrating thing. But you are in luck! There are a variety of ways to remove unwanted hairs as well as stop those same hairs from growing back in or growing as fast as they did before.

Permanent hair removal is the best way to stop hair from growing. One of the most effective methods is laser treatment. The laser beams are pointed at the hair growing under the skin, weakening the roots and causing the hair to fall out. By attacking the root, the hair follicle dies and the hair usually does not return. This technique is accomplished by professionals skilled at laser hair removal and usually requires three to eight treatments, depending on the hair's strength. This method is ideal for treating large areas, like the legs, arms or back. Laser hair removal is more expensive than other techniques and is not recommended if your hair is lighter than the surrounding skin.

Another effective hair-removal procedure is electrolysis, also done by a trained professional. In this case, one hair is removed at a time, which is excellent for contained areas such as the eyebrows and upper lip. Electrolysis releases the hair out from the root using electronic beams and usually requires several sessions to ensure that the root is dead.

Permanent hair removal can also be done through radio frequency technology, whereby a cool wave is sent through the hair to the root, destroying its ability to grow. This method is good for use on the bikini line, underarms, face, and other delicate areas.

Electronic tweezers, called epilators, are another option, especially if you are looking for a good at-home treatment that you can do yourself. With this method, hair grows back lighter and thinner each time, with the hope that the root will ultimately weaken and die ceasing hair regrowth.

Other hair removal treatments include waxing, where the hair returns slowly and becomes thinner and weaker with each treatment; depilatories are creams used to dissolve the hair beneath the skin. Depilatory creams will not remove hair permanently, but they can have an effect for up to six weeks; and lastly, topical or oral prescription medications can be prescribed by a doctor depending on the underlying cause of your unwanted hair growth.

While all are effective, most hair treatments will have to be repeated a few times to become permanent or to slow hair growth. The treated hair will come back lighter and thinner in diameter and some are likely to be gone from the very first treatment.

This tiny opening helps skin oil reach the surface and protects your skin from dehydration. Large pores typically go hand in hand with blackheads. When the pores get clogged, they appear larger. Large pores can also develop due to genetics or poor exfoliation. Making a few lifestyle changes will help you minimize the appearance of your pores.

Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser twice daily. Also, exfoliate the skin about once weekly. This will slough off dead skin cells and make your pores appear smaller. Avoid using greasy cosmetics. These products can make blackheads and large pores worse. Select products labeled noncomedogenic or water-based.

Topical retinoid creams promote new collagen grown. This type of medication also helps keep your pores unclogged and promotes smoother skin, according to "Fitness" magazine. You can purchase topical retinoid creams over-the-counter at your local drugstore.

Talk with your dermatologist about prescription-strength retinoid creams if over-the-counter products aren't working. Prescription products are higher strength and provide better results. Another medication used to treat large pores is Azelaic Acid. This prescription medication also helps treat bacteria that cause acne.

Discuss insurance coverage with your dermatologist. Most insurance companies won't cover these products.
Discuss the use of chemical peels with your doctor. This type of procedure can help improve the texture of your skin and clear up discoloration from previous acne outbreaks. A chemical peel is typically performed in a dermatologist's office and peels away top layers of skin. Typically, three to five peels are needed to improve the appearance of the skin, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Healing time ranges from one day to 14 days.

Topical medications used to treat large pores and acne might increase sun sensitivity. Ask your doctor about sun exposure with the use of these products. Sun damage also makes your pores appear large. It causes your epidermis to change. As a result, skin gets thicker and the cells to start collecting around the pores, making them look larger.

View the original article here

It is easy to forget that the appearance of thin skin on your hands can give away your age. Although a certain amount of thinning of the skin on the hands in inevitable as you grow older, there are things you can do to keep your hands looking and feeling their best.

The natural aging process contributes to thinning skin. A young person's skin contains abundant collagen and elastin, the substances which give skin resiliency and strength. Young skin also produces its own hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar complex which traps and holds moisture, giving skin a plump and supple appearance. As you age, your body decreases production of these substances, leaving the skin on the hands looking fragile and thin.

Long-term exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun hastens the depletion of the skin's collagen. Too much sun also causes a condition called elastosis, in which the skin's elastin is altered and broken. The hands are nearly always exposed outdoors, and even those people who use sunscreen on their faces often forget to protect their hands. As a result, the skin on the hands is often the first place where people notice thinning skin. Excess sun exposure may eventually leave the hands looking wrinkled and skeletal.

Certain medications, including oral or topical corticosteroids, can weaken the skin and the blood vessels, causing fragility of the skin on the hands and elsewhere. Thinning skin caused by corticosteroids is reversible, and the skin recovers as soon as medication use stops. Thinning skin can also be caused by medical conditions such as amyloidosis, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and bleeding disorders, according to MayoClinic.com

Protect thinning skin by avoiding too much sun exposure and applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen to all exposed skin, including your hands, before heading outdoors. Thin skin is fragile and easily bruised or torn. Since dry skin is more susceptible to damage, it is important to keep the hands moisturized at all times, using a thick cream. The Dermatology Blog recommends that people with thin skin consume a diet high in lean protein and take in sufficient calories to maintain the body's healing capacity when a skin tear does occur.

Dermatologists can provide cosmetic treatment to improve the appearance of hands affected by thinning skin. Injections of the dermal fillers Restylane or Perlane, or of the collagen stimulator Sculptra, cost between $500 and $3,000 as of 2010, and can add a "buffer" layer between the skin and the tendons and bones of the hand. The results are only temporary, lasting between six and 24 months. Doctors can also plump up the skin on the hand through the use of fat harvested from a patient's abdomen, thighs or buttocks. Oily patches on the forehead, the nose and surrounding areas and the chin signal combination skin. You might also have dry skin around your eyes and on your cheeks. If you have combination skin, some facial products can make the problems worse and you should avoid using them.
You should avoid any cleanser that dries your skin. This includes most bar soaps and acne-type facial washes. Paula Begoun, of the Cosmetic Cop website, recommends using gel-based or foaming cleansers on combination skin. You should clean your skin twice a day, with special attention at night to remove makeup or any oily build-up from the day.
Many exfoliating products used for skin facials are too harsh for combination skin. Avoid products with hard grains of material or chemicals. Both can irritate your skin, causing dryness where you don't want it and excess oil production in your t-zone oily area. Instead, choose products with exfoliating ingredients, such as hydroxy acids.
Alcohol finds its way into many skin care products. For combination skin, you might feel temptation to use alcohol-based toners or astringents on the oily areas. Your face will not thank you for this. Alcohol will dry your entire face and can trigger the oily areas to overproduce oil in an attempt to balance your skin. Toners do have a place in your skin care routine, but opt for more gentle, alcohol-free varieties.
Facial masks lift impurities from the skin and tighten it. Masks do tend to dry facial skin. Avoid using a mask all over your face, especially in dry areas. You can, however, use a mask only on the oily areas of skin. The mask should be left on for about 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Oil-based moisturizers will only add to the problems of combination skin. The oils will build up and make the pores in your t-zone clog and look larger. Though you should moisturize your face daily as a part of your skin facial routine, according to the Cleveland Clinic, use a water-soluble, oil-free moisturizer. If the skin around your eyes tends to dry and is prone to wrinkle, use a separate moisturizer for the area. You should also avoid using an oil-based sunscreen. You still need sun protection, so look for makeup with sun protection, or a sensitive-skin, oil-free moisturizer that includes it.
Article reviewed by ReneeH Last updated on: Oct 4, 2010

View the original article here

This method can work like a miracle for those looking for a noticeable change.
This is the latest in dermatological advances in microdermabrasion . It is used to resurface a less than perfect facial surface. The definition of resurfacing is to remove the upper portion of skin in order to get rid of flaws such as wrinkles, blotchiness, acne scarring, and discoloration. Various methods are available to do just that, including chemical peels, laser treatments, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion.
This process is similar to its heavier handed relative, dermabrasion. Both work in re-planning the face by wearing away its upper layer of skin with some sort of abrasive substance. While dermabrasion relies on a high speed rotary machine, microdermabrasion often utilizes crystals to remove the flawed surface. This method uses a tool with a sapphire head to sand away the desired surface areas. There are actual sapphire particles on the abrasive portion of this medical device.

The tool vibrates in order to provide the specific grit needed for each particular patient. It can be adjust to offer fine, medium or deeper results. This process is combined with a dose of red and blue pulsed L.E.D. light therapy and is performed using the following steps:

First the sapphire tool is used in an exfoliation process.
The above process would be repeated but this time with a soothing gel that is rich with vitamins.
A lymphatic massage is performed using the tool, as well, which removes toxins and promotes better circulation.

Red L.E.D. light (red monochromatic light) is applied which helps to firm up skin and to enhance collagen production in order to increase elasticity. The red light tends to rev the skin up.
Blue L.E.D. light therapy is used to get rid of bacteria and to increase the flow of oxygen to the area. This light treatment has become very successful in treating acne. The blue light helps to calm the skin and induce healing.

This treatment takes approximately six to ten sittings for its full effects to be seen. It is recommended that the procedures be done every week or every other week, depending on the individual case.

This procedure is performed in a dermatologist?s or plastic surgeon's office and takes about forty-five minutes to complete. The process is reportedly pain-free. There will be a progression of improvement over the weeks as each treatment takes place.

If you are interested in the Sapphire 3 Microdermabrasion treatment performed on your face, call your dermatologist or plastic surgeon to inquire whether they are up on this revolutionary tool. Then make an appointment to see if this method will work for you. Starting down the road to a proper skin care regimen will lay the groundwork for proper care into the adult years.
Most people, especially teenagers are not aware that the largest organ found in the human body is the skin. Many people neglect it or do not use the appropriate products on it to keep it looking firm and full of health. During the teenage years many individuals suffer from an excessive amount of oil on their faces and the dreaded blemishes in the form of pimples and blackheads.
It is important that you figure out what your skin type is right now and start taking care of it a top priority. The reason for this is because wrinkles are in your future and therefore taking care now can help prevent and delay many of the skin problems that can plague you once you get older.

The first rule of basic care for those under 20 is to give up baking in the sun and avoid the harmful UVA/UVA rays. If you need to go out in the sun, wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. It is the sunburns you receive before the age of 18 that can do you the most damage in your later years. The scary thing about the sun is that once the damage is done it cannot be reversed. Protect your body!

The three main types are oily, dry and combination. Once you have determined (or someone else has helped you determine) what type of skin you have, purchase products that are designed for you. You then need to get into the habit of regular care by doing it faithfully twice a day. A daily regimen includes cleansing your derma, as well as toning and moisturizing it. It is also a good idea to use a face mask once a week to deep clean your pores and an exfoliator such as a facial scrub. Just make sure you are gentle with your face. Scrubbing too hard could lead to break ups which are no fun if you are prone to blemishes.

Speaking of blemishes, if you have oily skin and have pimples popping up more often than not then choose customized products that can address your special needs. Buy spot treatments that contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid and include them in your daily routine. When applied directly these treatments will dry out the zit and encourage it to heal as quickly as possible.

What you do on the inside reflects on the outside. This means make good nutrition an important aspect of your life. Forget the sodas, potato chips, greasy burgers and fries and reach for an abundance of fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains, lean meats, seafood and dairy products that are low in fat. Gently use your fingers to apply the foundation around the blemishes, blending carefully. When finished, you can apply the rest of your make-up like you normally would.
Finish with a light dusting of face powder. When you are done, your pimples should be less noticeable.
Four foundation formulations are available, oil based, water-based, oil-free, and water-free or anhydrous forms. Oil based products are designed for dry skin; whereas water based products can be used for all skin types. However, oil free formulations are used for oily skin, while anhydrous forms are long wearing and are used for camouflage or theatrical reasons.

Covering up the pimples can help teen women be less self-conscious. Wearing makeup during a breakout is up to the individual woman, just like shaving during an outbreak is up to the individual young man. There really is no truly right answer.
After mashing up well a pineapple slice, mix it with the juice of an orange or a lemon and add all these ingredients with wheat flour. Apply this mixture on the face and neck. Scrub it off after some time, to get fresh and smooth skin.

Try several different products, and don't be afraid to ask the sales representatives for advice. They may have a tip on an especially good product that will help alleviate acne breakouts. Get to know the associates as they can offer great tips. Explain that acne is a problem and that products that help prevent outbreaks would be appreciated.

Then, use a nice neutral color for the lid and apply this right to the lid and on top of that paint. Don?t take it all the way to the brow because we?re going to use something a little bit lighter for the brow bone. We want to make sure that the eye shadow doesn?t fall below the lash line. Because if it does, it will make your eyes look that they?re sagging down or downturned
For the brow bone, use the lightest color that you use on your eyes. Apply some color just to the tip of a brush and put it on the crease and just do a little windshield wiper movements right there. This movement just kinds of create a natural crease.

When healing acne, keep the following tips in mind. Most of them are simply common sense. Eat nutritious food, exercise on a regular basis, supplement with vitamins as needed, and stay fit. If you maintain a strong immune system, it will help fight acne. Follow the directions if you use medication, even if it is over-the-counter. Don't stay out in the sun too long, and practice good hygiene.

What you shouldn't do is just as important. Resist the urge to pop pimples. You may be advised to do so, but it can make your problem worse. Bacteria can get driven deeper into your skin, or may spread. This will prolong your infection and make a bigger problem.

Most important, don't just assume that everyone is knowledgeable who gives you advice on acne. A lot of people mean well, but don't know the facts. You may be advised to avoid fried foods, chocolate, and to stay in the sun. This is not correct and could lead to larger problems. There are no solid scientific studies linking what you eat and acne. It's a myth.

Take half grated fresh radish, one spoon of vinegar, one spoon of lemon juice and one spoon of honey. Mix all these ingredients in a glass of distilled water and store in a bottle. Wipe your skin regularly to shrink open pores and reduce greasiness.

If using a skin ointment, continue. Just make sure it does not clog pores. It should help them drain and help kill excess bacteria. Try to find an ointment that bacteria will not develop resistance to. Pores fill with bacteria, dead skin cells and oil. This creates pimples that may be very painful.

Mix together 1 tablespoons of orange juice with ? tablespoon of honey and apply on the face. Each has been used for centuries as a beauty product, and both are commonly found in creams and lotions. However, there are notable differences between the two that can affect your skin for the better or for the worse.

Both shea and cocoa are naturally occuring substances. Shea butter is also known as karite butter. It's made from the nuts of the karite tree found in West and Central Africa. Shea butter is sometimes called "women's gold," because its harvest and production creates jobs for many African women. Cocoa butter is extracted from cacao seeds, also known as cocoa beans. It's native to the Americas and is a traditional moisturizer in Mesoamerica and the Caribbean.

Cocoa butter and shea butter are similarly prized as moisturizers. Both contain fatty acids, which improve skin moisture retention and elasticity. Both are effective in easing skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis. Most people agree that cocoa butter's smell is very pleasant, and some use it for aromatherapy; shea butter's fragrance, on the other hand, is sometimes described as off-putting or even stinky.

Cocoa butter contains cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), which helps ease dermatitis or rashes. CMP may also inhibit the growth of cancerous cells and tumors.

Shea is a good source of vitamins A and E, which strengthen your skin and help it repair damage. A 2009 study found that the caffeic acid in shea butter reduced the damaging effects of UV radiation. In addition, shea butter contains cinnamic acid: a 2010 study found that it could repel both inflammation and tumors.
For acne-prone skin, shea butter is a wiser choice than cocoa butter. Cocoa butter will clog your pores, according to a report by Beneficial Botanicals. Shea butter is non-comedogenic, meaning your pores will stay clear. It may also help reduce the appearance of acne scars, because its antimicrobial properties can fight off infections.

Cocoa butter has traditionally been recommended to pregnant women who have stretch marks. However, a 2008 study found that it was no more effective on stretch marks than a placebo lotion.
Raw, unrefined cocoa butter and shea butter have the most nutritive value to your skin, but can be difficult to find. Many products claiming to contain cocoa or shea have them in refined form, with additives and ingredients that may or may not heal your skin. You may need to pay more to receive the true benefit of these butters. In addition, shea butter quality can range quite a bit. Do you research before buying an inferior product: low-grade shea is useful only as a moisturizer.

Article reviewed by Greg Duran Last updated on: Mar 28, 2011

View the original article here

This sensitivity might be a food allergy or a physical reaction to increased blood sugar levels. If eating refined sugar products causes your skin to itch, the most likely scenario is an allergic reaction. Refined sugar may also be a trigger for a chronic skin conditions, such as eczema. Only your doctor can properly diagnose your situation and determine the basis for your sugar sensitivity and resulting itchy skin.

A food allergy is an abnormal reaction by the immune system to a food. When some substances enter or come in contact with the body, the immune system erroneously detects harm. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, true food allergies are not that common. What some people deem to be an allergy may actually be an intolerant to a food. Intolerance is not an immune system response. It is a difficulty digesting or processing a food type, such a sugar. Symptoms of a true food allergy include hives, swelling, itching skin or a skin rash. Some food allergies may trigger chronic skin conditions like eczema.

Eczema is a chronic skin condition that causes patches of extremely dry skin to itch, crack and blister. The exact origin of eczema is unknown; however, heredity may play a role. Irritants may trigger an eczema outbreak. Exposure to cigarette smoke, detergents, harsh weather or wool clothing may start to irritate skin. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends individuals diagnosed with eczema avoid food triggers as well, one of which may be refined sugar. It is possible sensitivity to sugar may cause an outbreak of eczema. You should see your doctor to determine if your itchy skin is actually eczema.

Your chronically dry skin may not have anything to do with how much sugar you eat. Dry skin can have many sources. MayoClinic.com explains most dry skin comes from environmental factors. Exposure to hot or cold weather and changes in humidity can lead to lack of moisture on the skin surface. Other things to consider include excessive bathing, use of a lotion and exposure to harsh chemicals or detergents. All these factors may come together to dry skin and create itchy spots.

If you have itchy skin, it is vital that you discover why. The best way to do this is to see your doctor. Start keeping a journal of all the foods that you eat daily and make note of every time you have an outbreak. This will help you determine the correlation between food and your skin problem. Start applying a body lotion to your skin daily. Reduce the amount of time you spend bathing and use only lukewarm water. For skin that itches, apply an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to affected areas. If your journal notations show that sugar sensitivity may be an issue, cut all sugar products out of your diet and reduce the amount of carbohydrates you eat.

Scratching your skin will expose you to a potentially serious bacterial infection known as cellulitis. With cellulitis, bacteria invade the opening in the skin and infect the underlying tissue. Complications of cellulitis include a blood infection that can be potentially life-threatening. If your itchy skin shows sign of infection, such as red areas, swelling and discharge, see your doctor for treatment. Food allergies can also be potentially life-threatening. If after eating sugar you develop large raised areas of skin that itch, feel a tightening in your throat or have difficulty breathing, go to the emergency room or call 911. Some vitamin supplements may treat deficiencies and prevent excess oil secretions by controlling certain hormone levels while others have antioxidant properties that support your immune system. Maintain the recommended dose suggested by the manufacturer or your physician when taking vitamin supplements for oily skin. As well, never substitute vitamin supplements for healthy foods; consult your physician for any adverse reactions between vitamins and prescribed medication.

Vitamin C, known as ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin found in certain foods. It is essential for healthy skin and produces collagen, which repairs and protects the immune system. It also has antioxidant properties that protect your skin from free radicals. Exposure to environmental pollutants such as cigarette smoke, air pollution and ultraviolet sunlight create free radicals that may clog pores and create oily skin. The recommended dose for women is 75 mg per day, for men 90 mg per day.

Your skin cells depend on sebum production. However, an over-production of sebum may attract bacteria and dead skin cells, resulting in blackheads and acne. Omega-3 fatty acids help control the hormone androgen from producing too much sebum. Omega-3 fatty acids also help control flaky skin before the onset of blackheads and acne occurs. Cold water fish such as trout, sardines, salmon and mackerel have high levels of docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid, which is used for omega-3 supplements. The recommended dose for adults is 1,000 mg per day.

Vitamin A has antioxidant properties that support the elimination of toxins, reduce oil production and aid in the repair of skin tissue. Retinoid is derived from vitamin A and may relieve excess oil secretion when applied topically, as recommended by your dermatologist. The recommended dose for women is 700 mcg per day, for men 900 mcg per day. Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin therefore consuming too much may be toxic.

Zinc supplements provide antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties essential for oil-producing glands. Zinc is not created by your body, it must come from a dietary source or supplement. You require a small amount of zinc daily. However, a diet deficient in zinc may cause breakouts to occur. The recommended dose for an adult is 40 mg per day. Zinc may interfere with drugs prescribed to treat oily skin such as tetracycline. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking zinc supplements.

Article reviewed by Jenna Marie Last updated on: Jul 26, 2011

View the original article here

In your 20s, you may still be battling acne or you may be relatively free of skin concerns. Either way, daily care is essential for keeping your skin clean, nourished and protected from the sun. This will preserve the tone and texture of your complexion longer, as well as keep wrinkles, fine lines, sunspots and other signs of aging at bay. Start taking care of your skin now, and you will reap the rewards for years to come.

Choose a mild cleanser to wash your face twice a day, or use one that contains 2 percent salicylic acid if you have acne, according to "Allure." This will help fight the bacteria that cause breakouts. Rub the product you choose on your wet face, wash it off and pat dry.

Smooth a cream with 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide on the areas of your face where you get pimples -- to both get rid of the ones you have and help keep more from cropping up. If you do not have acne, skip this step.

Apply an oil-free moisturize formulated with sunscreen and antioxidants. "Cosmopolitan" magazine says that this will nourish your skin without clogging your pores, and the combination of sunscreen and antioxidants will ward off sun and UV rays, helping keep your skin free of sunspots and other signs of damage. Choose a product that contains SPF 15 or higher, and smooth it all over your face and neck.

Wash your face again at night, and use an exfoliating product twice a week. "Marie Claire" magazine notes that this will help clear out your pores and cut down on excess oil. The magazine advises that you stay away from scrubs that contain ground seeds, which can tear your skin, and instead, choose a product that uses spherical beads to help brighten up your complexion. Use your fingertips to massage the scrub into your wet skin and then wash it all away.

Dab an eye cream under and around your eyes. According to "Cosmopolitan" magazine your eye skin is thinner than the skin on the rest of your face, making it more apt to show fine lines and wrinkles. Choose a rich, moisturizing product and apply it to your eye area before bed.

Mild or salicylic acid cleanser2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide creamOil-free moisturizer with sunscreen and antioxidantsScrub with spherical beadsEye creamArticle reviewed by RandyS Last updated on: Nov 4, 2010

View the original article here

Fading these spots may require weeks or months of treatment, and some dark spots never go away completely. Treating areas with dark pigmentation early increases the chance that the marks will fade considerably with treatment. Talk to your doctor or dermatologist about any concerns you have about your skin to help determine the treatment method best for your condition.
Bleaching creams that contain hydroquinone prevent the formation of excess melanin, which contributes to areas of dark pigmentation. Hydroquinone creams are available over the counter and in prescription strength. Do not use hydroquinone for longer than three months. If the treatment is effective, you can expect to start seeing results after four weeks, according to the New Zealand Dermatological Society. Hydroquinone can cause skin irritation, burning, stinging and redness in some individuals. Stop using the cream if you experience severe irritation or swelling.
Corticosteroid creams that contain ingredients, such as hydrocortisone, can help fade areas of dark pigmentation and reduce the chance of skin irritation associated with other topical treatments. Topical steroid creams come in many strengths, and your dermatologist will prescribe the strength best suited for your pigmentation problems. Apply these creams exactly as directed and do not stop using them suddenly to prevent illness, cautions the New Zealand Dermatological Society.
Tretinoin creams contain prescription-strength retinoids that can help fade areas of dark pigmentation. It may take up to six weeks to see results from the use of topical retinoids, and they often cause mild irritation, redness and stinging during the first weeks of treatment. Do not use other topical products at the same time, unless directed to do so by your doctor. Tretinoin is not safe for pregnant women.
Dermabrasion treatments can help fade areas of dark pigmentation by removing the top layers of skin with a medical sanding tool. Redness and scabbing in the treated area is common during the first weeks after treatment, and you may need several treatment sessions to achieve your desired results. Your dermatologist can help you decide if dermabrasion is right for you.
Laser treatments destroy the cells that create dark pigmentation while leaving your skin's surface unharmed. It is usually necessary to undergo several laser treatments, particularly for old areas of hyperpigmentation, and the treatments are often expensive. Dark spots fade gradually over several weeks following a laser treatment session.
Article reviewed by Allen Cone Last updated on: May 26, 2011

View the original article here

The "Dirty Dozen" of skin care products refers to a list of chemicals found in personal care products that should be avoided. Although one or two exposures to these chemicals are not likely to cause harm, a lifetime of exposure may do more harm than you realize.

The "Dirty Dozen" chemicals are found in a variety of self-care products. The 12 most hazardous chemicals are antibacterials, coal tar, diethanolamine or DEA, 1,4-Dioxane, formaldehyde, fragrance, lead and mercury, nanoparticles, parabens, petroleum distillates, P-Phenylenediamine and hydroquinone. Self-care products that these chemicals may be found in include shampoo, foot-odor powder, mascara, bath soaps, facial moisturizers, skin lighteners, sunscreens, toothpaste, deodorant, hair dyes, baby bath soap and nail polish.

Each "Dirty Dozen" chemical presents one or more health risks if you are exposed to it for a prolonged period of time. The overuse of antibacterials makes your body more susceptible to germs that cause diseases such as E. coli and salmonella. The chemicals coal tar, 1,4 Dioxane, formaldehyde and petroleum distillates show evidence of being carcinogens, or cancer-causing agents. Other health risks from the "Dirty Dozen" include brain cell damage, nervous system damage, toxicity of the immune system, severe allergic reactions, lung irritation and respiratory irritation.

When you go shopping for products take a list of the "Dirty Dozen" chemicals and avoid buying items that contain the dangerous ingredients. Also be aware that some of the chemicals are sometimes listed with different names on labels or can be contaminating other listed ingredients. 1,4-Dioxane can appear as a contaminant in sodium laureth sulfate or other ingredients that include the terms "PEG," "xynol," "certeareth" and "oleth." P-Phenlyenediamine is also referred to as 1,4-Benzenediamine, p-Phenyldiamine and 4-Phenylenediamine.

Begin by taking inventory of your personal care products. Read the labels, and get rid of the products you can live without. This will also save you money, since you won't have to buy as many items. Give your skin and body a break from the chemicals by using only the essentials like toothpaste, soap and deodorant for a few days.

If you begin to realize that many of your essential self-care products contain dangerous chemicals, do not panic. Many companies are now producing products that are free of toxic chemicals.
There are different causes behind skin aging and they are the following: aging caused by hormones, aging caused by environmental factors, aging caused by lifestyle factors and aging caused by genetic factors.

Aging is a natural process that everyone must eventually undergo. The skin's texture and appearance changes as we age. Keeping a youthful glow to your skin can be achieved by nourishing it with the help of products such as argan oil anti aging. You will also know what steps to take to delay aging once you know the causes behind it.

Aging caused by hormones

Dry and thin skin, unhealthy skin tone, loss of elasticity, breakouts and wrinkles are the common characteristics of hormonal aging. Hormone level changes are linked to hormonal aging. This particular type of aging can occur much earlier or later than expected, depending on hormones production and fluctuation. Aging due to hormones is usually linked to the pre-menopausal, menopausal or post-menopausal stages of women.

Aging caused by environmental factors

Environmental aging is classified as an extrinsic aging process. In other words, it is not caused by internal processes in the body but by factors found in the external environment. These factors may include sun radiation and pollution. DNA can be damaged and the skin's natural ability to regenerate can be impaired due to the sun's radiation. Environmental aging usually occurs prematurely so it can happen to anyone regardless of age. The good thing, however, is that this type of aging can be avoided with proper skincare. This type of skin aging can be distinguished with wrinkles, brittle and dry skin, as well as hyper-pigmentation.

Aging caused by lifestyle factors

Premature aging is also brought by several lifestyle factors. As opposed to healthy skincare practices, poor health habits hasten skin aging. Cigarette smoking is one bad habit that have a negative effect on the skin. Studies show that when a person smokes, vitamin C in the body diminishes which causes the skin to become dry and wrinkled. Too much exposure to the sun is another bad habit that speeds up aging. As stated earlier, skin aging occurs prematurely when it is exposed to the sun more often than usual. When you plan to go under the sun, protect your skin from its damaging effects by applying sunscreen lotion with ample SPF. Skin aging can also be caused by other lifestyle factors such as lack of sleep, stress, too much alcohol intake and lack of exercise.

Genetic influence

Genetic aging is an inevitable skin aging process. Some of its key features are wrinkling, creasing and sagging of the skin. A person's genetic makeup determines this type of skin aging. For instance, your skin quality, type and how it ages may also be similar to your parent's skin, which you have inherited genetically. Elastin and collagen are skin proteins which are produced less as we go through the natural, genetically-determined aging process.

Though aging comes naturally and inevitably, you can still make your skin look great with lots of skin care remedies and routines you can do on your own.
These days, there seems to be more than enough stress to go around.
Here are some of the services that are popular at many day spas:
A day spa can be a wonderful treat for both body and soul. These days, there seems to be more than enough stress to go around. Stress is not only uncomfortable; it's also unhealthy for your body and mind. There are a slew of emotional and physical maladies directly related to being chronically stressed. One way to relax is by performing a bit of self-care with a trip to the spa. Here are some of the services that are popular at many day spas:

Massage: A licensed therapist can rub your tension away. A person stores chemicals in their muscles that have resulted from a constant stream of fight-or-flight situations. While this chemical may be helpful in survival situations, a continual supply is detrimental to a person's health. The tense muscles that are brought on by stress can cause pain and problems with sleeping. A good massage will work the tension and chemicals away naturally. It's important to drink plenty of water after a massage in order to flush and purify the system.

Facials: A facial can entail many luxurious components. Cleansers that are appropriate for a person's skin type will be used to purify the skin; massage and aromatherapy help to relax the recipient, as well. Facial tightening masks, astringents and creams will also add to the pampering experience.

Manicures and Pedicures: Having the nails of the foot or hand worked on is a delightful treat. Not only are the areas soaked in warm, scented cleansing water, they are massaged with lotion and treated for roughness and calluses. The nails are clean, shaped and painted with high quality polish. Not only is this a pampering treat, but your nails look spectacular for weeks afterward.

Mud wrap, salt scrub or hot rocks: Nature enters the spa in amazing ways. Body wraps are the equivalent of facial masks but for the entire body. Wraps can be made of mud, seaweed or clay. Salt scrubs are performed in order to slough off or exfoliate the skin's surface. Hot rocks are actually smooth stones that have been heated to a temperature which is both soothing and relaxing. The technician will lay the stones on strategic locations on your back and the tension will melt away.

If you want to give your body and mind a mini-vacation and a deposit in your emotional-well-being bank, check out your local day spa in order to discover the services they offer and to ponder which ones will work to de-stress you. Developing a consistent, dermatologist-approved skin care plan is the key.
Everybody wants their skin to have a healthy, radiant glow, especially in the summertime, but many do not know what type of dermal care that requires. Developing a consistent, dermatologist-approved body care plan is the key to achieving that glow all year round.
There are some things you can do and apply directly to your face, and there are other parts of healthy skin that are more about what you take in to your body.
On the Outside
There are plenty of ways to keep your skin glowing, some that require daily diligence and some treatments that only need to be performed once every few months. In terms of daily care, it is important to keep your skin clean. A morning and nightly washing is in order, as well as the application of some moisturizer to lock in water for your dermal needs.
Keeping your face clean will prevent dirt and chemicals from clogging your pores, creating blemishes and acne. Once a week, mild face scrubs can help exfoliate dead skin cells that keep the face from looking its brightest.
If you are looking for more dramatic results, you might consider visiting a dermat or a total body care professional for a chemical peel or a microdermabrasion. These procedures essentially remove the top layers of dermis to reveal fresh, untouched skin with more even tones. These can sometimes even minimize the look of fine lines!
On the Inside
Here are the things that seem less obvious when it comes to good skin care. First, drink plenty of water-at least 8 glasses a day-in order to provide your body with maximum hydration for the best appearance possible. What you eat also plays a big role in your skin's glow. Good skin needs lots of vitamins and nutrients, so cut out those sweets and oily foods and make sure you fill up on lots of fruits and veggies instead.
Two more essential components of a healthy body include regular exercise and adequate sleep. Vigorous exercise will help your body sweat out undesirable toxins as well improve the circulation of blood beneath your dermis. Getting good rest every night allows your skin much needed time to repair itself from the day's activities and abuses. Sun screen is another excellent way to protect that healthy glow. It will help prevent not only sunburns, but also blotchy patches and dark spots.
And of course, if you smoke, quit now! There is no easier way to dull your appearance than with nicotine. By quitting smoking you can get rid of that ashy color your body has acquired and you will probably see quick results in terms of reduced wrinkles and skin with fuller volume. As long as it is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, the cons should not even come into play.
Aging causes you to lose volume in your face, including the lips. Sometimes genetics determines that you will have a thin and shapeless pucker. There are several injectable facial fillers on the market that can also be used to plump the pucker. So you know what to expect, here are the general pros and cons of these fillers:
Pros

Fast procedure/quick results-You can get lip enhancement injections on your lunch hour. It is a great option if you have a special occasion coming up and you want fuller lips for the event because the results are instantaneous.

Variety of options-There are several products made of different ingredients and different densities to choose from. You can choose what works and looks best on you.

Long-lasting results-On average, you should see the results from for six months. Some products last as long as a year. This means that you only have to go maybe once or twice a year for maintenance.

Supple lips-This is an obvious benefit and the whole point of the treatment. Full luscious lips are the result.

Safe-Most products are made with ingredients that, while synthetic, are not foreign to the body.

Substances like hyaluronic acid are naturally found in the body so the chance of allergic reaction is low. You can also use your own fat and completely eliminate the risk.

Not permanent-This is actually a pro and a con. On the positive side, if the end result is too full or unnatural looking, you know that it will gradually dissipate. You are not permanently stuck with weird fat lips. You've seen them, you know you have.

Cons

Not permanent-The downside is that you have to continue treatment to keep the results.

Risk of unnatural appearance-If you haven't been clear about the results you want or an unskilled person performs the injections, you can be left with asymmetrical or over-plumped ones.

Possible allergic reactions-Some products may use animal-based ingredients so, while natural, there is a chance of allergic reaction. The key is to know what is in the filler before it is put into your body.

All in all, the good outweighs the bad. Whether you have the lip enhancement procedure at a plastic surgeon's office or at a medical spa, make sure the plastic surgeon is board certified.

While the substances are safe, you still want someone with experience injecting you with these products. It is a delicate process where asymmetry or over-plumping can occur if an inexperienced physician does it. It works with visible red LEDs and invisible infrared LEDs with the body?s natural processes to counteract the effects of aging. This treatment can be used for men and women of all ages and skin types. So it means that selecting appropriate candidates is important.

Why we need it?

Our cells cannot manufacture the skin?s supportive structures faster than before, as we grow older. And we have to suffer environment damage from the sun?s rays. It will speed this process and damage our skin and cells that produce elastin and collagen. Light therapy can stimulate these cells to help counteract the effects of aging on the skin by being delivered at specific times.

What? the theory of anti-aging light therapy?

The red light of anti-aging light therapy promotes the production of collagen that gives our skin its firmness and elasticity. The production of collagen is normally stimulated by inflicting a ?controlled injury? on the skin. For instance, laser resurfacing, chemical peels and some non-invasive tightening produces work by inducing a controlled injury. This injury will promote collagen production by stimulating a healing process. But the red light doesn?t injure your skin and support your body?s collagen production. We at Ulan Medical Spa are really excited about this new technology.

What should I do during treatment and how many treatments should I take?

Before the treatment starts, you should cleanse your face to remove any makeup or sunblock. In order to let the light absorb better, we will put an exfoliating solution on your face before the treatment. Then we will give you with safety eyewear and position the light about 1 or 2 inches away from your face. Each light therapy will last about 20 minutes. You will feel relaxed all the time. And you can return to your normal routine without any pain, redness or irritation. Usually, patients need 8 to 12 treatments and they will take over 4 to 6 weeks. So the treatments have to be at least one day apart. You can have a consultation with your skincare professional to adjust the number of treatments if appropriate.

What results can I expect from the treatment and how long will the effects last?

You will see a brighter, clearer and smoother complexion at first. After several treatments, you will notice an improvement in skin tone clarity, and texture, with your pore sizes reduced. Most patients can see a marked difference in 2 or 3 weeks after finishing the last treatments. Over 80% of subjects in studies report a softening of fine lines and wrinkles, and 75% report improvement in skin smoothness and softness.

After finishing your treatments, you will still continue to see improvement for 8 to 12 weeks. Because we continue to age every day, you may choose to go on a maintenance item to continue the treatments. Maintenance treatments are customized based on an individual?s needs.

What other treatments can be combined with anti-aging light therapy at Ulan Medical Spa?

At Ulan Medical Spa, we provide some other treatments that can be combined with anti-aging light therapy. It is appropriate to combine anti-aging light therapy with anti-acne light therapy for some patients. For this, we alternate blue light, which destroys acne bacteria, with the red light, which can reduce inflammation.

We often precede the anti-aging light therapy treatment with the HydraFacial. It?s a skin resurfacing treatment that deep cleanses, extracts, exfoliates, and hydrates while bathing your skin with skin-specific serums for acne-prone, anti-aging, dry or oily skin. And the combining of anti-aging light therapy treatment and chemical peels is also often used at Ulan Medical Spa.

Anti-aging light therapy works well when combined with the ReFirme treatment, which tightens and tones your skin. ReFirme combined with light therapy yields better results in terms of firming, toning and rejuvenating.

Please feel free to have a consultation with us if you have any question.

We encourage you to discuss any decisions about treatment or care with an appropriate healthcare provider.
