চায়নার তুলনায় ইতালিতে করোনার এত প্রাণঘাতী হয়ে ওঠার কারণ কী?

আন্তর্জাতিক জরিপ সংস্থা ওয়ার্ল্ডোমিটার এর পরিসংখ্যান বিশ্লেষণ করে দেখা গেছে, বাংলাদেশ সময় শুক্রবার দুপুর পর্যন্ত বিশ্বজুড়ে করোনা আক্রান্ত হয়ে মৃত্যুর হার গড়ে ৩.৬৯ শতাংশ। তবে ইতালিতে এ হার ৬.৭২ শতাংশ। চীনের পর সবচেয়ে বেশি আক্রান্তের সংখ্যাও ইতালিতে। আন্তর্জাতিক সংবাদমাধ্যমের বিভিন্ন প্রতিবেদন ও বিশেষজ্ঞ মন্তব্য বিশ্লেষণ করে দেশটিতে মৃত্যু হার এত বেশি হওয়ার পেছনে কয়েকটি সম্ভাব্য কারণ শনাক্ত করা গেছে।

বৃহস্পতিবার (১২ মার্চ) নতুন ১৮৯ জনের মৃত্যুর মধ্য দিয়ে ইতালিতে করোনা ভাইরাসে প্রাণহানির সংখ্যা এক হাজার ছাড়িয়েছে। বুধবার সেখানে ১৯৬ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছিল। ওয়ার্ল্ডোমিটারের হিসাব অনুযায়ী, এ পর্যন্ত সেখানে আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা ১৫ হাজার ১১৩তে পৌঁছেছে। মৃত্যু হয়েছে ১,০১৬ জনের। কেন সেখানে মৃত্যুর হার এত বেশি?

১. বয়স্ক মানুষের সংখ্যাধিক্য

ইতালিতে মৃত্যুহার বেশি হওয়ার পেছনে একটি বড় কারণ হতে পারে সেখানকার বয়স্ক মানুষের সংখ্যাধিক্য। ইউরোপীয় দেশগুলোর মধ্যে ইতালিতে সবচেয়ে বেশি বয়স্ক মানুষের বসবাস। মার্কিন সংবাদপত্র নিউ ইয়র্ক টাইমস-এর তথ্য অনুযায়ী, সেখানকার অধিবাসীদের ২৩ শতাংশই ৬৫ কিংবা তার চেয়ে বেশি বয়সী।

দ্য টাইমস-এর প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী, ইতালির জনগোষ্ঠীর বয়সের মধ্যক ৪৭.৩ (মধ্যক হলো মোট জনসংখ্যার সাপেক্ষে বয়সের একটি কেন্দ্রীয় মান নির্ণয় করা এবং সে মানের নিচের ও উপরের বয়সী বিবেচনায় জনগোষ্ঠীকে দুইভাগে ভাগ করা)। অথচ যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের অধিবাসীদের বয়সের মধ্যক হলো ৩৮.৩। দ্য লোকাল এর তথ্য অনুযায়ী, ইতালিতে করোনায় আক্রান্ত হয়ে যাদের মৃত্যু হয়েছে তাদের অনেকেরই বয়স ৮০ ও ৯০ এর ঘরে।

টেম্পল ইউনিভার্সিটি কলেজ অব পাবলিক হেলথ-এর রোগতত্ত্ব বিশেষজ্ঞ ক্রিস জনসন মনে করেন, বয়সের পাশাপাশি কেউ যদি অন্তত এমন একটি রোগে আক্রান্ত হন যা তাদের রোগ প্রতিরোধের সক্ষমতাকে দুর্বল করে দেয় (যেমন ক্যান্সার কিংবা ডায়াবেটিস) তবে ওই ব্যক্তি করোনায় আক্রান্ত হওয়ার ঝুঁকিতে থাকেন এবং তাকে মারাত্মক রকমের ভুগতে হয়।

২. একই অঞ্চলে বেশি সংখ্যক আক্রান্ত থাকা

ইউনিভার্সিটি অব মিশিগানের রোগতত্ত্ববিষয়ক সহযোগী অধ্যাপক অব্রি গর্ডন মনে করেন, ইতালিতে মৃত্যুহার বেশি হওয়ার আরেকটি কারণ হতে পারে, এক এলাকায় অনেক বেশি আক্রান্ত থাকা, যাদের কিনা চিকিৎসা সেবা জরুরি। একটি অঞ্চলে অনেক বেশি আক্রান্ত থাকলে সেখানকার চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থার ওপর অনেক বেশি চাপ পড়ে এবং চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থা ভেঙে যায়; যেমনটা চীনের উহানে হয়েছে। বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থার সাম্প্রতিক এক প্রতিবেদনে দেখা গেছে। চীনের উহানে করোনায় মৃতের হার ৫.৮ শতাংশ। আর গোটা দেশে মৃতের হার ০.৭ শতাংশ।

৩. মৃদুভাবে আক্রান্তদের শনাক্ত না করা

ইতালিতে করোনা ভাইরাসে মৃদুভাবে আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন, এমন মানুষদেরকে শনাক্ত করা কিংবা আক্রান্তের তালিকায় যুক্ত করা হয়নি। সেক্ষেত্রে প্রকৃত আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা জানা যাচ্ছে না। মারাত্মকভাবে আক্রান্তদের সংখ্যাই কেবল জানা যাচ্ছে। তাই আক্রান্তের যে সংখ্যার কথা বলা হচ্ছে, তার বিপরীতে মৃত্যু হার বেড়ে যাচ্ছে। দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ার প্রেক্ষিত বিবেচনা করলে দেখা যায় সেখানে আক্রান্তের সংখ্যার তুলনায় মৃত্যু হার কম। বিজনেস ইনসাইডারের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, সেদেশে রোগ নির্ণয় পরীক্ষায় ১ লাখ ৪০ হাজার আক্রান্ত শনাক্ত হয়েছে। এ সংখ্যার বিপরীতে তাদের মৃত্যু হার ০.৬ শতাংশ। আক্রান্তের সংখ্যাটা কম দেখানো হলে তাদের মৃত্যু হারও বেশি হয়ে যেতো।

এ প্রসঙ্গে ক্রিস জনসন বলেন, ‘প্রকৃতপক্ষে কতজন আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন তা সম্ভবত আমরা জানি না। করোনায় আক্রান্ত হওয়ার লক্ষণগুলো খুব মৃদু আকারে দেখা গেছে কিংবা যাদের বয়স কম তারা অনেকে হয়তো পরীক্ষা করাতে যাননি।’ তার সন্দেহ, ইতালিতে সম্ভাব্য মৃত্যুহার ৩.৪ শতাংশ।

৪. সংস্কৃতিগত প্রভাব

অধ্যাপক ডেলা গিউস্তার মতে ইতালীয়দের বেশি বাইরে বের হওয়ার প্রবণতা ও স্পর্শের সংস্কৃতিও এক্ষেত্রে প্রভাব ফেলেছে। তিনি বলেন, আন্তঃব্যক্তিক যোগাযোগের ক্ষেত্রে যুক্তরাজ্য কিংবা আয়ারল্যান্ডের মানুষ পরস্পরের মধ্যে যতটুকু ব্যবধান রাখে ইতালির ক্ষেত্রে সেই ব্যবধান অনেক কম থাকে। সেখানকার মানুষ একে অপরকে হ্যালো বলার সময় চুমু খায়।

আক্রান্ত এলাকায় স্কুল বন্ধ করে দিয়েও অনেক অভিভাবককে বিচ্ছিন্ন (আইসোলেশন) রাখা সম্ভব হয়নি বলে জানিয়েছেন অধ্যাপক ডেলা গিউস্তা। তিনি জানান, লোম্বার্দি এলাকায় স্কুল বন্ধ করে দেওয়ার পরও অভিভাবকরা তাদের বাচ্চাদের অন্যান্য অঞ্চলের পর্বত ও সমুদ্র এলাকায় ছুটি কাটাতে নিয়ে গেছে। ‘তারা ভেবেছিল বাচ্চাদের তারা নিরাপদ রাখছে, কিন্তু সত্যিকার অর্থে এ ধরনের আচরণের ফলাফল ভালো হয়নি।’ বলেন তিনি।

পদক্ষেপ ও ব্যবস্থাপনার সংকট

কোনও কোনও বিশেষজ্ঞ মনে করেন, ইতালিজুড়ে নতুন করে আরও যেসব কড়াকড়িমূলক ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছে তা কেবল নজিরবিহীনই নয়, অস্থিতিশীলও। লন্ডন স্কুল অব হাইজিন এন্ড ট্রপিক্যাল মেডিসিনের অধ্যাপক জন এডমুন্ড বলেছেন, এ ধরনের বিধিনিষেধের প্রভাব খুব স্বল্পমেয়াদি হবে। দীর্ঘমেয়াদে এগুলোর বাস্তবায়ন না হলে মহামারি অবস্থা আরও বেশিদিন থেকে যাবে বলে শঙ্কিত তিনি।

অবশ্য ইতালির বতমান পদক্ষেপগুলোকে ‘অসাধারণ’ ও ‘পুরোপুরি যথার্থ’ বলে উল্লেখ করেছেন অধ্যাপক ডেলা। তিনি বলেন, প্রাথমিকভাবে সরকারের প্রতিক্রিয়া খুব ধীর ছিল।

প্রসঙ্গত, গত দুই সপ্তাহে ভাইরাসটি চীনের বাইরে ১৩ গুণ বৃদ্ধি পাওয়ার প্রেক্ষাপটে বুধবার (১১ মার্চ) পৃথিবীব্যাপী মহামারি ঘোষণা করেছে বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থা (ডব্লিউএইচও)। উৎপত্তিস্থল চীনে ৮০ হাজারেরও বেশি মানুষ আক্রান্ত হলেও সেখানে ভাইরাসটির প্রাদুর্ভাব কমে গেছে। তবে চীনের বাইরে বিশ্বের অন্যান্য দেশে এই ভাইরাসের প্রকোপ বাড়ছে।

কোন পাঁচটি জিনিস আপনার কখনো শুরু করা উচিত নয়?

১. হস্তমৈথুন: যারা বলে দিন, সপ্তাহ, মাস অন্তর অন্তর করা ভালো, তাদের হয় এ সম্পর্কে জ্ঞান নেই, নতুবা অন্য খারাপ কোনো উদ্দেশ্য আছে। এটা ঘুণে পোকার মতো, ভিতর থেকে আপনাকে খেয়ে ফেলবে বুঝতে পারবেন না। শারীরিক ক্ষতির সাথে মানসিকভাবেও বিকলাঙ্গ করে দিতে পারে হস্তমৈথুন।

বাংলাদেশ শব্দটি প্রথম কে ব্যবহার করেন, কিভাবে এই নামের সৃষ্টি ?

যেখানে "বাংলা" শব্দের উৎপত্তি হয়েছে সংস্কৃত শব্দ "বঙ্গ" থেকে। আর্যরা "বঙ্গ" বলে এই অঞ্চলকে অভিহিত করতো বলে ইতিহাস থেকে জানা যায়।

তবে বঙ্গে বসবাসকারী মুসলমানরা এই "বঙ্গ" শব্দটির সঙ্গে ফার্সি "আল" প্রত্যয় যোগ করে। এতে নাম দাঁড়ায় "বাঙাল" বা "বাঙ্গালাহ্"।

"আল" বলতে জমির বিভক্তি বা নদীর ওপর বাঁধ দেয়াকে বোঝাতো।

ইতিহাসবিদ আবুল ফজলের উদ্ধৃতি দিয়ে সৈয়দ আনোয়ার হোসেন বলেন, "মুসলমান শাসনামলে বিশেষ করে ১৩৩৬ থেকে ১৫৭৬ সাল পর্যন্ত সুলতানি আমলে এবং ১৫৭৬ সালে মোঘলরা বাংলা দখল করার পরে এই অঞ্চলটি বাঙাল বা বাঙালাহ নামেই পরিচিতি পায়।"

তবে বাংলা, বাঙাল বা দেশ - এই তিনটি শব্দই ফার্সি ভাষা থেকে এসেছে। কোনটিই বাংলা শব্দ নয়।

এরপর বিভিন্ন সময়ে বিভিন্ন রাজারা দখলদারিত্বের সময় এই বাংলাকে বিভিন্ন নাম দেন।

শেষ স্বাধীন নবাব সিরাজুদ্দৌলাও বাংলা, বিহার, উড়িষ্যা, আসামের মতো কয়েকটি প্রেসিডেন্সি নিয়ে নাম দিয়েছিলেন "বঙ্গ"।

ব্রিটিশ শাসনামলে এই অঞ্চলের নাম হয় বেঙ্গল প্রেসিডেন্সি।

এরপর ১৯০৫ সালে বঙ্গভঙ্গের সময় গোটা বাংলায় একটা প্রশাসনিক বিভাজন হয়। বাংলার পশ্চিম অংশ হয়ে যায় পশ্চিম বঙ্গ এবং পূর্ব অংশ হয়ে যায় পূর্ব বাংলা।

ব্রিটিশ ঔপনিবেশিক শাসন অবসানের পর ১৯৪৭ সালে বঙ্গ-প্রদেশ ভারত ও পাকিস্তানে বিভক্ত হল। সে সময় পাকিস্তানিরা পূর্ব বাংলার নাম দিতে চাইলো পূর্ব পাকিস্তান।

কিন্তু এ নিয়ে সেই সময় থেকেই বিতর্ক শুরু হয়। আন্দোলনের ধারাবাহিকতায় ১৯৫২ সালে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের মাতৃভাষা হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি পায় বাংলা।

এরপর ১৯৫৭ সালে করাচীতে পাকিস্তানের গণপরিষদের তরুণ সদস্য শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান বক্তৃতা দেয়ার সময় "পূর্ব পাকিস্তান" নামটির প্রতিবাদ করে বলেন যে, পূর্ব বাংলা নামের একটি ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্য আছে।

"আর যদি পূর্ব পাকিস্তান নাম রাখতেই হয়, তাহলে বাংলার মানুষের জনমত যাচাই করতে হবে। তারা নামের এই পরিবর্তন মেনে নিবে কিনা - সেজন্য গণভোট নিতে হবে।"

তারপর ১৯৬২ সালে সিরাজুল আলম খানের নেতৃত্বে নিউক্লিয়াস নামে ছাত্রলীগের একটি গোপন সংগঠন প্রতিষ্ঠা পায়। যারা স্বাধীনতার পক্ষে চিন্তাভাবনা করতো। তারা এই অঞ্চলকে বলতেন স্বাধীন পূর্ব বাংলা।

এরপর আসে ১৯৬৯ সাল। শুরু হয় আইয়ূব পতন আন্দোলন। সেসময় গণঅভ্যুত্থানে স্লোগান দেয়া হয় "বীর বাঙালি অস্ত্র ধরো, বাংলাদেশ স্বাধীন করো।"

ইতিহাস অনুযায়ী, ওই প্রথম পূর্ব বাংলাকে "বাংলাদেশ" নামে অভিহিত করা হয়।

পরে ১৯৬৯ সালের ৫ই ডিসেম্বর গণতন্ত্রের মানসপুত্র হোসেন শহীদ সোহরাওয়ার্দির ৬ষ্ঠ মৃত্যুবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত আলোচনা সভায় শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান ঘোষণা করেন, "আমাদের স্বাধীন দেশটির নাম হবে বাংলাদেশ"।

ওই বৈঠকে আওয়ামী লীগের নেতারা বিভিন্ন নাম প্রস্তাব করেন। পরে শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান "বাংলাদেশ" নামটি প্রস্তাব করলে তাতে সবাই একবাক্যে সায় দেন।

এই নাম দেয়ার কারণ হিসেবে তিনি বলেছিলেন, ১৯৫২ সালে সংগ্রামের মাধ্যমে অর্জিত বাংলা ভাষা থেকে "বাংলা", এরপর স্বাধীন দেশের আন্দোলন সংগ্রাম থেকে দেশ। এই দুটো ইতিহাস ও সংগ্রামকে এক করে "বাংলাদেশ" নামকরণ করা হয়।

এরপরও নথিপত্র-গুলোয় পূর্ব পাকিস্তান লিখতে হলেও কেউ মুখে পূর্ব পাকিস্তান উচ্চারণ করতেন না। সবাই বলতেন বাংলাদেশ।

সেই থেকে এই দেশকে আর কেউ পূর্ব পাকিস্তান বলেনি। সবাই বাংলাদেশ হিসেবেই মনে-প্রাণে স্বীকৃতি দিয়েছিল বলে জানান ড. সৈয়দ আনোয়ার হোসেন।

তারপর মুজিবনগর সরকার স্বাধীনতার যে ঘোষণা প্রচার করে - তাতেও বলা হয় এই দেশটির নাম হল "বাংলাদেশ"।

এরপর ১৯৭২ এর চৌঠা নভেম্বর যখন প্রথম সংবিধান প্রণীত ও গৃহীত হয় সেই সময়ও দেশটির সাংবিধানিক নাম দেয়া হয় "বাংলাদেশ"।

সেদ্ধ ডিম এবং ভাজা ডিমের মধ্যে পার্থক্য কী?

সেদ্ধ ডিম সেদ্ধ আর ভাজা ডিম ভাজা। এই হলো পার্থক্য.. হাহাহা। আসল পার্থক্য ক্যালরিতে। একটা সেদ্ধ ডিমে যে পরিমান ক্যালরি ভাজা ডিমে ক্যালরি এর প্রায় দ্বিগুন কারন ভাজার জন্য তেল, বাটার, ঘি যেকোনো একটা কিছু যোগ করতে হয়।

কীভাবে নিজেকে দ্রুত ঘুমিয়ে পড়ার প্রশিক্ষণ দিতে পারি, যেভাবে তারা মিলিটারিতে করে থাকে?

আমি আমার জীবনের একদম শুরুর দিকে মিলিটারিতে (সামরিক বাহিনী) কাজ করেছি। মিলিটারিতে আমাদের একটি সাধারণ কৌশল শেখানো হয়েছিল যা আমি আজও ব্যবহার করি।

কি দিন কি রাত, আলো জ্বলুক আর হট্টগোল হোক, আমি যেকোনো জায়গায়, যেকোনো সময় ঘুমিয়ে যেতে পারি। এর জন্য কোনও ওষুধের দরকার হয় না তবে চর্চা (practice) করতে হয়।

শুয়ে পড়ুন বা শান্ত হয়ে বসে চোখ বন্ধ করুন, এবার যতটা গভীরভাবে সম্ভব শ্বাস নিন এবং গুনতে থাকুন কতক্ষণ ধরে শ্বাস নিচ্ছেন; বেশিরভাগ মানুষ পাঁচ সেকেন্ড পর্যন্ত নিতে পারে, আমি আটের বেশী।

পাঁচ পর্যন্ত গোনার সময় আপনার ফুসফুসে বাতাস ধরে রাখুন। এবার নিঃশ্বাস ছাড়ুন এবং শ্বাস ছাড়ার সময় ঠিক আগের মতো গুনতে থাকুন।

এভাবে গণনা করা আপনার মনকে শিথিল (relax) করে এবং ওই সময়ের দুশ্চিন্তা থেকে আপনার ভাবনা-চিন্তাকে বিশ্রাম দেয়। শ্বাস-প্রঃশ্বাস নেয়া হৃদস্পন্দনের গতি কমিয়ে দেয় এবং আপনার সারা শরীরে প্রশান্তি ছড়িয়ে পড়ে।

আমি যখন এই কৌশলটি প্রতিদিন ব্যবহার করতে শুরু করি তখন দশবার পুনরাবৃত্তি করার আগে আমার ঘুম আসত না, কিন্তু এখন? আহ! তিনবার করলেই আমার ঘুম চলে আসে।

আসলে এটি কীভাবে কাজ করে তা সত্যিই আশ্চর্যের কেননা হঠাৎ করেই সকাল হয়ে যায় আর আমি মনেই করতে পারি না কীভাবে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছিলাম!

একবার,সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে এক জন ছেলের সাথে আমার খুব ভালো বন্ধুত্ব হয়৷ তিনি আমাকে তার সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করার প্রস্তাব দেন৷ ফেসবুক পর্যন্ত বন্ধুত্ব ঠিক ছিল। আবার দেখাদেখির কি আছে! যাই হোক,তাকে নিরাশ করি নি৷ বলেছিলাম ঠিক আছে, দেখা করা যাবে।

বেশ কিছুদিন পর সেই সংকটকাল এলো৷ আমি গেলাম। তিনি খুব ভদ্র মানুষের মত রেস্টুরেন্ট এর সামনে বিনীত ভঙ্গিতে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন। আমাকে দেখে মুচকি হাসি দিলেন,আমিও হাসলাম। কিন্তু এদিকে মনে মনে খুব অদ্ভুত অনুভব করছি৷ রেস্টুরেন্টের ভেতরে গেলাম। ঐ রেস্টুরেন্টের দুই ধরনের বসার সিট ছিল। এক ধরন হলো, ছোটো টেবিল চেয়ার, অন্য ধরন হলো বিশাল বড় বড় সোফা আর বিশাল টেবিল। তিনি আমাকে সেই বড় টেবিলের দিকে নিয়ে গেলেন। আমি মনে মনে খুব খুশি হলাম। টেবিলের এপারে আমি, ওপারে উনি, খুব ভালো দূরত্ব থাকবে। কিন্তু আমার খুশি ঠাকুরের সহ্য হলো না। ভদ্রলোক আমার পাশেই বসে পড়লেন। এটা আমার পছন্দ হলো না৷ কিন্তু সেটা একান্তই আমার সমস্যা৷ খেয়াল করলাম কপালে ঘাম জমা শুরু হয়ে গেছে৷
