Jon has played professionally since age 12. Beginning as a solo accordionist, he later played Hammond B3 organ in a number of important San Francisco bands. His all original group HADES opened shows for Tower of Power, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Michael Bloomfield. Eddie Money and Barry Finnerty became musical associates. El Cerrito CA -- Jon Hammond enjoyed the blockbuster hit movie "It's Complicated" starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin with his Mom and Girlfriend Jennifer at the newly refurbished Rialto Cinemas Cerrito Theater at 10070 San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito last night.
Charles gave Jon a rundown on the complicated techniques he uses to do specialized archival screening implementing some of the latest state of art equipment used in providing captioning and descriptive narration for blind and hearing impaired audience members incorporating multiple formats of Film & Video with the latest DBX Audio.

The Cerrito has been lovingly restored and maintained in all of it's 1937 glory with the famous Art Deco blue glass mirrors etched with the goddess Diana, hunting with her bow in hand in the oval jewel box lobby. Deco chandeliers and sconces grace the ceiling and walls. *Notice Charles' custom t-shirt with Gazelles as depicted in the Cerrito's unique art.

Comfortable chairs have been provided along with new theatre seating and many with tables or counter for enjoying the excellent menu of food drinks and snacks, beer and wine will be coming soon!

My Grandmother's Chair brought to you by Jon Hammond

This is one of 4 kitchen chairs that belonged to my dear Grandma for many years. I used to sit my tuchas down on those chairs and enjoy her delicious soup and coffee cake she used to make for me. I have a lot of good memories in that chair, so when the back of it started getting a little shaky, but still firm on it's legs my Mom decided it was time to finally say goodbye to this one, now there is only one of the original 4 left.
I decided to bring this chair to a good neighborhood, maybe someone will adopt the chair and take it in to their nice home, so here you can see it sitting for the last time, I sat on it for a wile and remembered the good times in the chair and there it is folks, my Grandmother's Chair!

Kiel – It seems that the invitation to have earnest. Before the concert Jon Hammond puts the reviewer baffled his business card in hand. “Hi, I’m Jon, without h. If you have the next time you’re in New York, come over!”

Für den Weltenbummler sind Orte nur Stationen auf seinem Lebensweg. Chicago, Paris, Frankfurt-Bornheim, Hamburg-St.Pauli, New York. Die vielen Menschen und Musiker, die der Organist kennenlernt, bilden die Grundlage, auf der er seine späteren Referenzen, Anekdoten und Songgeschichten aufbaut. Und Jon kennt sie fast alle.

Das Konzert im Blauen Engel firmiert unter The Jon Hammond Show. Warum, spüren die Zuschauer bereits nach der ersten Ansage. Jon Hammond ist ein Showman, ein Dampfplauderer, geschult in Jahrzehnten als Radio- und TV-Moderator. Obendrein ist der 55-Jährige ein ausgezeichneter Organist an der Hammond Orgel. Mit der instrumentalen Jazz-Revue begibt er sich auf die Spuren von Miles Davis, The Crusaders und Jimmy Smith, immer nach dem Slogan handelnd: „The fingers are the singers“.

For the globetrotter only stations are places on his life. Chicago, Paris, Frankfurt-Bornheim, Hamburg-St.Pauli, New York. The many people and musicians who know the organist, are the basis on which his subsequent references, anecdotes and stories song builds. And Jon knows them all.

The concert at the Blue Angel trades under The Jon Hammond Show. Why, feel the viewers already after the first announcement. Jon Hammond is a showman, a Dampfplauderer, trained in decades as a radio and TV presenter. On top is the 55-year-old is an excellent organist at the Hammond organ. With the instrumental jazz revue he goes to the footsteps of Miles Davis, The Crusaders and Jimmy Smith, always acting under the slogan: “The fingers are the singers.”

Im Spiel geht Jon Hammond absolut in seiner Musik und seiner Leidenschaft für den guten alten Hammond-Sound auf. Mit 18 Jahren kaufte er sich seine erste Hammond B3 und tourte mit der Rockband Hades im Vorprogramm von Tower Of Power oder Michael Bloomfield. Erst 1991 legte er sich eine digitale und leichtere XB-2 zu. Ein regelrechter Genießer: Seinen Kopf wiegt er ständig von einer Seite zur anderen, windet sich wie Stevie Wonder über seinen Fingern. Die linke Hand ersetzt dabei größtenteils den Part eines Bassisten, zusätzlich zu den verschiedenen Klangfarben, die er manuell justiert.

Nicht zu ersetzen sind die Musiker, die die Jon Hammond Show auf der Bühne komplettieren. Heinz Lichius trommelt wie in jeder seiner Formationen aufs Allerfeinste, der 26-jährige Sebastian Gille verblüfft anstelle von Gabriel Coburger am Saxofon mit feinfühligen, gleichwohl kraftvollen Soli und Gitarrist Joe Berger gleicht einem Saiten-Hasardeur. Auch wenn er nicht der ehemalige Who-Gitarrist ist, wie es die Veranstalter-Info weismachen möchte – zumindest spielte er bereits mit Who-Bassist John Entwistle und sorgte in dessen Band für den Studio-Mix.

In the game’s Jon Hammond absolutely in his music and his passion for the good old Hammond sound. At the age of 18 he purchased his first Hammond B3 and the band toured with Hades in the act for Tower of Power or Michael Bloomfield. Only in 1991, he is a digital and easier to XB-2. A main feature of the instrumental songs: catchy melody and strong grooves. Jon Hammond handles the sad encounter with a girl in Paris or the Czech King Salsa as well as rooting the night in the hotel garbage. In addition to jazz elements is his style deeply rooted in rock, funk, East Bay Grease, Bossa Nova, Soul and Rhythm & Blues. Sometimes the sound shallow pieces, most notably Duke Ellington
Satin Doll or
Moanin ‘by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, as on a cruise ship, but the early protagonists break the rudder around, they joke with Shuffle and Radio welding on the other hand hold.

Jon Hammond To Record Sessions On His Original Nakamichi 550 Dual-Tracer Portable Recorder

Hammond says: I bought the Nakamichi 550 new in 1976 at Harvey Electronics on W. 45th St. in NYC for $550, "They didn't call it the Nakamichi 550 for nothing!"

The machine is now being overhauled by California Historical Radio Society Vice President Scott Robinson, he is an expert Engineer and Dolby specialist. We are very excited about resurrecting the legendary recorder with state of art new microphones from Sennheiser and Superlux to record my upcoming sessions with studio drummer Bernard Purdie, we have a show coming up at the Winter NAMM trade show in Anaheim January 15th on the Hilton-Muzeo stage.
Nothing like the fat sound of the 550 with it's unique "Blend Channel" 3rd mic gives it a dimensional sound that is still unsurpassed in digital portable recording machines.
Jon also uses the Nakamichi in the field to record segments of his daily radio broadcast HammondCast on KYOURADIO on the CBS Radio Network now in 5th year, best 550 I ever spent says Hammond.

We played a 5 night run at Mikell's with my mint condition Hammond B3 organ as Jon Hammond and The Late Rent Session Men

I still have the B3 and custom built Bill Beer Keyboard Products Super Leslie in road cases for tours of Rolling Stones type epic proportions, but since it won't fit in to a taxi cab and or commercial airline situation, I tour with either my Hammond XK-1 or Hammond XK-3 organ and when I am on the West Coast to complete the vintage sound I use my 1965 Fender Band-Master piggyback amplifier with 2 x 12" stock Jensen speakers, it really kicks ass, Mr. H Ohno at Suzuki Hammond did an incredible job of designing a portable organ that faithfully reproduces the famous Hammond sound, and the warm sound of Leo Fender's tube amps completes the system to my satisfaction. It blows a lot of people's minds when they realize I'm not at the B3, but it has the same emotional impact, as I can see time after time when I play this rig in hospitals and nursing home situations.

What's old is new and what's new is old, I use the best of the new and the old to get the desired results.

Jon Hammond:
I own 2 Hammond B3 organs and Leslie speakers, unfortunately they will not fit in a taxi cab, so these days I play most of my road gigs using either my Hammond XK-1 organ or my Hammond XK-3 organ and I like to play them through my vintage Fender tube amps, I have 2 1965 Fender amps, a piggy back Fender Band-Master with stock factory 12" Jensen speakers and my Twin Reverb with original JBL Speakers option. The Twin was formerly owned by John McFee when he was in Clover and Flying Circus and at that time he had it maintained by Randall Smith of Prune who started Boogie Amp company. I purchased the amp in 1981, it still has Flying Circus stencil on top of the amp.
My Band-Master is now maintained by Scott Robinson who is Vice President of CHRS California Historical Radio Society.
I also have a 150 watt Music Man HD-212 hybrid amp that is a monster.

Dear Listener: In my life I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to pursue my dream of being a musician, composer, broadcaster/journalist and impressario around the world. The music you will hear on this disc is exactly as I assembled the pieces carefully from over a 14 year period of my best recordings up to the year of 1995. In one late-night/early-morning session with my co-producer/engineer Joe Berger, we put together all the tracks which became my first official release titled Late Rent, the theme song of my tv show The Jon Hammond Show. Since the completion of that project many things have happened or as we say, water under the bridge. Now I am happy to be able to bring forth the record 10 years later in the best quality audio with complete quality control so that for the first time I can present some of my most faithful
compositions to my listeners as I always wanted to. The music is timeless and as Ray Charles once said, "When you're dead you're done", but Jon Hammond says, "The music lives on and it will keep traveling long after I'm gone." A message sent to all with no guarantee it has been received. I am the eternal optimist, having literally gone to live in other countries with nothing but my music and my instrument. Often I have played with musicians who can not speak English, but the language of music is international & universal. The rhythm of life exists on these tracks and like a musical photograph it has captured the spirit of my travels and life experiences. Late Rent is not just a title, it is a true story of my life struggles to get the rent paid and by many miracles I managed to get it paid every time, often down to a few moments of impending doom (better late than never!)...the music always came first for me and I am proud to present it to you now again better than ever. May this be the soundtrack to your life & travels and help groove you safely to your destinations sure as the sun rises in the morning.

Some notes about the LATE RENT product you are holding in your hand:
They say history repeats itself. In the case of LATE RENT it is partially true, but now in 2005 I have taken the opportunity to take control of my music and visuals bringing them to you in the absolute highest quality thanks to my outstanding team of specialists. It has been a long road with many detours along the way but thankfully all the master recordings are intact and I was able to locate the photos which artist Michael August has shaped in to a creation that conveys the look of my tv show and tells you many things about this music before you even open the box. Hammond B3 freaks will not be disappointed. Joe Berger preserved the master recordings well. 25 years have passed from the start of this project with the first recordings. I am happy to say that now today my Rent is NOT Late!
And the music of LATE RENT is available for the Ring Tones on your Phones.
