In 1990, Japanese arcade game maker SNK released a new system called the Neo Geo. What made it unique was its ability to play the exact same games as its coin-operated counterpart. The other aspect that set the Neo Geo apart from other consoles of the day — the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo — was its astronomical price tag of $650, with games tipping the scale at more than $200 apiece. Now the console is set to return as a portable device with a more reasonable asking price.

Due to arrive in December, the Neo Geo X Gold will be a handheld game system with a 4.3-inch color LCD screen and 20 pre-installed games for $200. What's more, it will include a dock designed to look like the original Neo Geo console that you'll be able to plug the handheld into in order to play games on your TV via an HDMI connection. A full arcade-style joystick will also come with the device to complete the authentic Neo Geo experience.

The system is going to be sold through major retailers and will likely be available through online sellers such as Amazon. Tommo, the company producing it, hasn't said what plans it has for the handheld beyond the included games, but the device does have the ability to use memory cards containing additional software so there's a good chance retro gaming fans will be able to expand their collection for on-the-go play.

Whales Died from Stranding

Kuala Lumpur (AFP / ANTARA) - The whale that stranded the estimated length of 52 meters off the coast of the island of Borneo in Malaysia, apparently refusing to return to the sea, local officials said on Friday.

Pope was found Thursday in eastern coast of Sabah state of Malaysia, did not die on the same day, said Bagang, an officer of the marine department.

He said that his team tried to pull the whale back to sea using two vessels several times. Firefighters are also pouring sea water on the whale.

"We're trying to pull it out to sea ... but he did not want to go back to the sea, "the AFP quoted Bagang question, adding each time the rescue crew pulled the animal into the water, the whale swam back to shore.

He said that he was not sure what is wrong with these whales, which had the wound but nothing serious. He was also unable to identify the types of whales.

Bagang said it was the first whale washed up on the west coast of Sabah. Daily Star earlier reported three other whales stranded along the coast of the South China Sea.

The New Straits Times said hundreds of people came to see the whales and bring empty paint cans to fetch water from the sea and poured it on the whales.

Phelps holds the record for most gold medals won in a single Olympics (Beijing, 2008), and set a new record for most Olympic medals in 2012, beating gymnast Larisa Latynina's prior record of 18.

Early Life

Michael Fred Phelps was born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Fred and Debbie Phelps. The youngest of three children, Michael Phelps and
his sisters grew up in the neighborhood of Rodgers Forge. His father, Fred, an all-around athlete, was a state trooper; mother Debbie was a middle-school principal. When Phelps's parents divorced in 1994, he and his siblings went to live with their mother, with whom Michael grew very close.

Phelps began swimming when his two older sisters, Whitney (born in 1978) and Hilary (born in 1980), joined a local swim team. Whitney tried out for the U.S. Olympic team in 1996, at the age of 15, but injuries derailed her career. At age 7, Phelps was still "a little scared" to put his head under water, so his instructors allowed him to float around on his back. Not surprisingly, the first stroke he mastered was the backstroke.

After he saw swimmers Tom Malchow and Tom Dolan compete at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, Phelps began to dream of becoming a champion. He launched his swimming career at the Loyola High School pool. He met his coach, Bob Bowman, when he started training at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club at the Meadowbrook Aquatic and Fitness Center. The coach immediately recognized Phelps's talents and fierce sense of competition and began an intense training regime together. By 1999, Phelps had made the U.S. National B Team.

At the age of 15, Phelps became the youngest American male swimmer at an Olympic Games in 68 years. While he didn't win a medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, he would soon become a major force in competitive swimming.

World-Renowned Olympic Medalist

In the spring of 2001, Phelps set the world record in the 200-meter butterfly, becoming the youngest male swimmer in history (at 15 years and 9 months) to ever set a world swimming record. He then broke his own record at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, with a time of 1:54:58, earning his first international medal. Phelps continued to set new marks at the 2002 U.S. Summer Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, establishing a new world record for the 400-meter individual medley, and U.S. records in the 100-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley. The following year, at the same event, he broke his own world record in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:09.09.

Shortly after graduating from Towson in 2003, a 17-year-old Phelps set five world records, including the 200-meter individual medley at the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, with a time of 1:56:04. Then during the U.S. trials for the 2004 Summer Olympics, he broke his own world again in the 400 meter individual medley, with a time of 4:08:41.

Phelps became a superstar at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, winning eight medals (including six gold), tying with Soviet gymnast Aleksandr Dityatin (1980) for the most medals in a single Olympic Games. Phelps scored the first of six gold medals on August 14, when he broke his own world record in the 400-meter individual medley, shaving 0.15 seconds of his previous mark. He also won gold in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley, 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay and 4-by-100-meter medley relay). The two events in Athens, in which Phelps took bronze medals, were 200-meter freestyle and the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay.

Just weeks following his triumph in Athens,

Phelps soon followed coach Bowman to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, studying sports marketing and management. Bowman coached the Wolverines' swim team and guided Club Wolverine, of which Phelps was once a member.Phelps was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Salisbury, Maryland, after cruising through a stop sign. He pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, was sentenced to 18 months probation, fined $250, ordered to speak against drinking and driving to high school students, and ordered to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving meeting. Ryan Lochte was born in Canandaigua, New York, in 1984. His father was a
swim coach, so Lochte started swimming at an early age. According to his parents, Lochte had a great feel for the water by the age of 5 or 6. During his junior year of high school, Lochte realized that he was in fact good enough to pursue a career as a professional swimmer.

After graduation, he attended the University of Florida, where he was named NCAA Swimmer of the Year twice and swam his way to victory countless times, becoming a seven-time NCAA champion. He was also seven-time SEC champion and a 24-time All-American.

Olympic Swimmer

Lochte first qualified for the Olympics in 2004, held in Athens, Greece. That year, he swam with Michael Phelps, Klete Keller and Peter Vanderkaay to capture the gold medal in the 4-by-200–meter freestyle relay. He also won the silver—placing just behind Phelps—in the 200-meter individual medley. Later that year, at the FINA Short Course World Championships, Lochte won the bronze in the 200-meter freestyle, the silver in the 200-meter individual medley and the gold in the 4-by-200–meter freestyle relay.

At the 2005 World Aquatics Championships, Lochte won the bronze medal in both the 200-meter backstroke and 200-meter individual medley, as well as the gold in the 4-by-200–meter freestyle relay, with Phelps, Vanderkaay and Keller. The next year, at the Short Course World Championships, Lochte won six medals, including three gold, and set world records in the 200-meter individual medley, and both the 100- and 200-meter backstroke. Also in 2006, at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships—during his senior year at the University of Florida—Lochte broke the NCAA record in the 400-yard individual medley, which had been set by Tom Dolan nearly a decade earlier.

In 2007, Lochte continued his torrid pace in the pool, setting his first individual long-course world record as he won the gold in the 200-meter backstroke at the World Aquatic Championships. By 2008, Lochte was more than ready to take on the rest of the world in the Beijing Games.

In Beijing, Lochte won two gold and two bronze medals, and set world records in the 200-meter backstroke and 4-by-200–meter freestyle relay. His success continued beyond the Games, at both the 2009 and 2010 World Aquatics Championships. Between the two, he won 10 gold medals (six at the 2009 event, a record in itself) and a silver and bronze medal, and set two more world records.

Capping the year, Lochte was named "Male Swimmer of the Year" by the USA Swimming Foundation and "American Swimmer of the Year" by Swimming World Magazine.

The year 2011 saw Lochte winning five more gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships and preparing for the 2012 Summer Games in London. While training for the London Games, he said, "I am going to swim as many events as I possibly can."

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Lochte won two gold medals, in the 400-meter individual medley and 4-by-200-meter freestyle team event; and two silver medals, in the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay team event and 200-meter individual medley (losing to Michael Phelps). He also placed fourth in the 200-meter freestyle. Lochte now has 11 Olympic medals under his belt, including five golds.
