Student Birthday Treat Cups!

This year, all of our bloggers are focusing on free tips or ideas that they can share with you to get your school year off to a great start. Some ideas will have a freebie, others might just be a stand alone concept. The idea is to try and share things that will solve problems and create a happy and stress free first few weeks!

Let's get started!

This tip is an organizational and fun tip for your students! Today I'm going to share about my birthday cups that I make for my students every year!

As a teacher, I am all about organization and prepping ahead of time! I came up with these birthday cups a few years ago as a fun way to recognize student birthdays in the classroom. They are a hit! They end up looking like a milkshake. :-) They take a little time to prep, but I do it all right before school starts and then there are NO WORRIES!!!

To begin, I purchase the bubble cups off of Amazon. There are 50 cups in a set currently for $15.00. That usually lasts me 2 years. Here's a picture of the cups that I usually purchase:

Another suggestion is to see if your local Starbucks might donate the cups! I haven't had any luck with that, but every Starbucks is different. :-)

Next, I got the following materials together to make the cups:

I usually buy my paper shred from Michael's. It is $3.99 and I use a 40% off coupon, plus my teacher discount to buy it. You may want to try the Dollar Tree or similar places to see if you luck out there!

I always get a big bag of party candy at Walmart (approx $7.00). I try to get the ones with Tootsie Roll pops so I can yield some extra red or pink lollipops for the top of my birthday cups. I also buy an extra bag of Tootsie Roll pops so I have enough for the "cherry" of each birthday cup! Now I have had some people tell me that they are not able to give candy in their district. However, you don't have to use candy. You can use any items you want, such as stickers, temp tattoos, and any other little trinkets that you can get at the Dollar Tree. Then maybe you can find a red bouncy ball for the cherry!

I usually have lucked out and found my birthday pencils at the Target Dollar Spot every year! I also purchase address labels that are 2"x 4" in size to stick a happy birthday label on the outside of the birthday cups (see the label freebie below!!)

To make the cups is really simple! Fill the cup between 1/3 and 1/2 of the way up with candy. Then fill the rest of the cup up with the paper shred. I usually put the bubble lid on and stuff it with more paper shred so when I top it off with the lollipop, it is stable and doesn't fall over.

Then finally, I place a birthday pencil down into the cup and VOILA!!

Now one question I have had about this project is about storage. This type of candy is fine to be stored for the school year. The shelf life is well over a year, so I usually make them all before school starts. I keep them in a deep storage tub that I place on top of my metal storage cabinet which is sealed tight. I haven't ever had any problems. :-)

Today I am linking up with some of my amazing blogger friends to bring you a 4 week linky series of helpful tips as you venture back into the classroom for a new school year!

This week I am going to be discussing some ideas and tips that I have for classroom setup and organization!

Before you even walk into the classroom, it is really a great idea to draw a diagram of how you would like to set up your room. This will be a MAJOR timesaver in the future for you!

***Another important helpful tip: Prepare ahead of time!!

I know a lot of people don't want to give up their summer by working on anything school related, but it will really help you when you are crunched for time during preplanning and in meeting after meeting if you have most of it prepped and ready to go. Here are some ideas that I prepped over the summer for when I go back to school in a few weeks:

I always make inspirational quotes based on my classroom theme:

I place these table numbers in the middle of each table. I make them based on the school theme that we have this year. This year we are doing a space theme!

I have printed my new classroom decor, and I am already laminating away so it is ready to be hung.

I also prepped my birthday cups for the year. This is an idea that I started a few years back. I give each student one of these cups on their birthday and it is a HIT!! They love them!

I also made these privacy shields for students to work independently. My teammate gave me this idea last year, and I loved it! They do have some "helpers" on them to aid during math, reading, and writing specifically. I took triboards and cut them in half to create these.

*** When you consider your classroom environment, make it warm and friendly for your students. I want my students to be excited about our classroom. I want them to WANT to come back to school everyday!

I like to make everything crisp and clean looking. Since I haven't returned to my classroom yet this year, here are some pictures of my classroom from last year!

As you can tell, I love colorful and bright! Last year our school theme was a rock star theme, hence the zebra stripes. My students were so excited about our classroom from the minute they walked in the door at Meet the Teacher! This is the vibe you want to establish.

As you can see above, I hang my word wall on ribbons. I like the presentation that the ribbons make and the words are super easy to hang on the ribbons.

***Make everything user friendly and accessible for students.

There is a caddy in the middle of each table with pencils, a box of crayons for each student, their scissors, and glue sticks for each student. This provides quick and easy access when you ask students to get out their materials.

I also make Tidy Tubs for each table for students to put their scrap paper in after they do any cutting. Let me tell you that this idea has worked wonders for keeping all of that scrap paper off of my floor!

*** Have everything set up in student desks for Meet the Teacher!

I have all books in their desks ready to go and name tags already on their desks. I attach their nametags with velcro dots in case I need to make any adjustments. This is an easy way to be able to switch any students around.

I also have a welcome goody bags on their desks, which of course are a hit with my students! The most important thing, like I said above, is that they walk in your room and feel like it is HOME! :-)

What Happens In Vegas Changes Your Life!!...

Hi everyone!!

I just had the most life changing and fulfilling learning experience this week.

I did something out of the norm for me. I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone.

What did I do, you may ask?

I left everything familiar, hopped on a plane, and went to meet a bunch of people that I did not really know in Vegas. Today I am linking up with Mrs. Plemons' Kindergarten and the Elementary Entourage to tell you about my life changing experience in Las Vegas!

I knew last year when I saw how much fun everyone was having and how much they were learning that I had to go to the TPT conference this year. My youngest daughter was only 9 months old last summer, so I couldn't swing it. Around early February this year, I discussed Vegas with my husband and he said to go for it. So I booked it!... cue scary music.

Let me explain myself and the scary music. I am introverted. I am not good with introducing myself to others. I get easily nervous around everyone, especially people that I don't know. Will they laugh at me? Will I be shunned? Would anybody talk to me? AHHHH!!!

As the days approached to the conference, I was very excited, but I was so nervous to the point that it was making me sick. I know it sounds silly, but that's how nervous I get. I had NO idea what to expect. Things changed when I finally got myself into the mind set that I was going to "put myself out there".

July 8th- 7:30 am...Here I am boarding the plane. There was no turning back now.

By the time that I got to Vegas, my mind set already was beginning to change. I was more excited than nervous as you may be able to tell from this picture.

I met my friend Amy at the airport and we took an airplane shuttle to the hotel. All was quiet on the shuttle and then I said the magical acronym... TPT. All of a sudden all of the TPT'ers on the shuttle started talking and new friends were being made. We ended up meeting up with some of them in the food court for lunch after we checked in. So far so good!

Then I met my awesome roommates!! I knew Amy from Learning LessonsWith Mrs. Labrasciano already, so that helped. Then I met my other 2 roommates, Cassie from Adventures in Teaching and Tanesha from Raising Rigor and Readers-- and we got along great!!

As I walked through the Venetian, I started meeting SO many people. AND they knew me...lil' ol me! I didn't think anybody would give me the time of day and I couldn't be more wrong...everyone was SO nice!! I met up with a bunch of other 1st grade teachers that I collaborate with & every single one of them were AMAZING!!

Now the moment of truth...the big blogger meet up. And when I say big, I mean 1100 people big...YIKES!! Way out of my comfort zone. Would this be my moment of disaster?

Well... The blogger meet up was EPIC!!! Never in my life have I had more fun! Everyone was fantastic!!! It was so great meeting blogger friends that I have communicated with via social media for years. Like I said I would earlier, I just put myself out there and walked up and introduced myself to people! It couldn't have been a better night.

YES that is Cara Carroll from The First Grade Parade!! Starstruck!! I was also so excited to meet Vera from The Tutu Teacher and Jillian from The Star Spangled Planner!!!

This amazing girl right here is one of the first girls that I ever got to know virtually...Stephanie from Falling Into First ! Sweetest girl ever!

The next day, the TPT conference began and I already had the confidence built up from the day before. It was no longer a big deal to just be able to walk up to people and introduce myself. Here are some more people that I was lucky enough to meet from the networking session in the morning!

What was just as amazing was the TPT conference itself. I couldn't be more inspired or grateful to the TPT team. I was lucky enough to get a picture with Paul, the founder himself!

Rachel Lynette was so inspiring in her keynote. Her story as one of a struggling single mom truly touched my heart as she worked her way up, and it was especially interesting to know that she started on TPT due to an ad on...Craigslist!! It's truly heartwarming to know as educators and creators, that TPT came from being on Craigslist to the company it has become today.

I went to so many inspirational sessions and picked up new tips and tricks from each session. Everything was so valuable! I loved my session with the Deanna Jump and Deedee Wills. They did wonderful presenting together!

My 3 days in Vegas were a whirlwind! I went to meetups and made the most of my Vegas experience. I even won a giveaway from The Primary Pack's meetup. Woohoo!!!

and I met this awesome gal who I've been talking with for years!!!

As quick as it began, my time in Vegas was over. However, I am forever grateful for this experience in so many ways!

I learned that:

1) Stepping out of your comfort zone is something that you won't end up regretting. It truly changes your outlook on everything. It has changed my perspective on putting myself out there and meeting new people!

2) Hard work and dedication to my creations will pay off in the long run.

3) Find your tribe... this saying has been going around lately and I have found my #teachertribe of friends who I can collaborate with and talk to about anything. We have each other's back and not only are we teachers, but friends.

4) Empower everyone who is around you! This is not only about you or me, but we are all in this together.

As happy as I was to come home from Vegas, I felt a little empty inside to leave after meeting so many inspirational people. Until next year, #tptvegas16!

It's a Shark Week Blog Hop!!!

All teachers know that kids learn more when they’re excited and engaged. Today a team of bloggers come together to help your students take a BITE out of learning with a theme your students are sure to love!

My Shark Week freebie is a word sort that helps students to practice reading words with r-controlled vowels, specifically /ar/ words, in a fun and engaging way.

Students will read each word card and place it on the mat that it belongs on. This would make a great center activity for students in grades K-2 and allows for students to practice independently. Following the word sort, students will complete a page where they write the words into the correct category to show you what they know.

Woah! I've blogged twice in a week...it must be summer time!! :-)

July is an insanely busy month for me...but in a GREAT way! I am going to meet a ton of my best bloggy buds in Vegas next week. This is definitely a new, exciting, and a bit of a nerve wracking experience for me. Will everybody like me? Will I get lost? Will I be sitting in a corner by myself? I've decided to go and just put myself out there. I am as down to earth and nice as they come, so why should I be nervous, right?...Right- I hope I can keep myself convinced of that.

I'm listening to HGTV on Hulu right now. The hubs and I just took a leap of faith & decided to get rid of our cable TV. Our cable company raised our bill to $200 a month, so I said no way! We canceled our cable, upped our internet speed, and just have Netflix and Hulu. And you know what? I couldn't be happier about that. There is so much to choose from, so I have no regrets!

I'm LOVING that TPT Vegas is exactly 1 week from today! OMG!!!! However, I need to pack, pack, pack and all of my outfits are currently being shipped in the mail. Here's hoping that they will be here in time! That's what I get for being a procrastinator.

I'm wanting this headache to go away! This annoying headache that I've had for 3 days now! I suspect it's because I've been on my computer a lot lately for one reason or another. I think my brain needs a break!

I NEED to desperately organize my house. We would love to sell our house soon, but being that our house is 17 years old, it's starting to show it's age. We have a lot of painting & cleaning up to do and quite honestly, I haven't been the most motivated lately since I'm trying to reap all of the benefits that summer break has to offer!

My All STAR trait: I am a great listener.

Maybe I should consider being a therapist as my second career if teaching doesn't work out. I love to listen and help people solve their problems! So if anyone needs a friend to listen in Vegas, here I am!! (or anytime if you're not in Vegas!)

Tips on How To ROCK Your First Year of Teaching!!

Hello Teaching Rock Stars!!

I hope many of you are off to a wonderfully relaxing summer!! I have been taking advantage of sleeping in (well having 2 young children, sleeping in is until 7:00, but I will take it!), having fun with family/friends, and enjoying every single STRESS-FREE minute!

One thing that the summer always allows me to reflect on is my teaching practices. I've been teaching first grade for 11 years now- it's hard to believe it's been that long. Even though I've been in first grade for that long, I am still open to changing and adjusting my teaching practices year after year. Today I'm going to share some of my best tips for first year teachers and for teachers who are still new in the field!

As I think back to my beginning years of teaching, it's like WOAH--night & day. I started teaching back in 2005, before the world of blogging, TPT, and very little advice or inspiration was out there. Don't get me wrong, I was very enthusiastic as a beginning teacher, but the world of blogs & teaching has just turned my teaching world 180!

I'll be honest, I think back and {cringe} a little bit... because what I know now compared to what I did then has been such a learning experience for me. So I am more than happy to be able to share some of my best learning experiences with you!

So let's start with...

1. I am VERY much about explicit routines & procedures. This wasn't always the case, but I can tell you this is one of my MOST important tips! If you want to set the tone of your classroom in a positive direction for the entire year... explain and implement your procedures from DAY 1. A typical first day in my classroom is come in, say goodbye to your parents, work on a coloring sheet that I have on their desks, and then we come down to the carpet, and discuss each and every classroom rule in detail. It is an open discussion of modeling and examples, but they know that I mean what I say and say what I mean. Not only do I do this on Day 1, but we reinforce & review on Day 2, 3, 4, and 5. What I notice from this is that my classroom runs smoothly and efficiently, year after year.

2. Be willing to learn from others! After 11 years of teaching the same grade level, I openly admit that I still do not know everything there is to know about teaching. Have an open mind when it comes to taking advice and learning new things from veteran teachers, administration, etc. Your willingness to learn new things with an open mind will make you a stronger teacher than you could've imagined.

3. Be consistent! This ties in with number 1. If you aren't consistent with your expectations and routines, more than likely you will be heading up a rocky road. Your students are relying on you to lead the way. They need the consistency and structure from y-o-u. They will test your limits and they have to see that your limits can not be broken. You've got this! :-)

It's bound to happen... you will make mistakes! We're human. We all make mistakes! However, it's what you do to change them after you reflect on them. Here are the top two things that I learned as a beginning teacher:

1. Do not compare yourself to other teachers about everything! Give yourself the benefit of the doubt. You. are. learning! You are not going to be the best teacher that you can be the first year, second year, third year, and so on. It's a learning process. Yes...be open to learning from your colleagues; however, do not make it a comparison of your professional worth. Each year we learn something new. Each year we become a little better and more confident at what we do. Give yourself time to flourish as an educator.

2. Do not put too much on your plate at the beginning! It is great to be involved in your school, but with new teacher programs to complete, learning how to do lesson plans, learning the curriculum, parent/teacher conferences, behavior incentives, IEPs, PSTs/AIPs or whatever acronym your district calls it, the worst thing you can do is spread yourself too thin. Sure it's nice to be involved to be on the SAC committee or PTA or run after school clubs, but you need to take the time to focus on yourself, your family, and your students' needs.

It's hard to pick just one piece of advice to give you, because I could honestly write a book full of advice! The best piece of advice I can give you is:

BE OPEN TO CHANGE!

The teaching profession is forever changing. The pendulum swings one way and then swings the other way. It does get frustrating... one year you learn a new program and then next year it is obsolete. However, an open and positive attitude when facing challenges and changes will help you make it through. As hard as it is, this is my mantra. It is easy to be brought down by the negativity around you. Many people are naturally resistant to change. Do NOT let others affect your positive energy and bring you down. Remember who you are there for! Your students follow your lead. Just remember during the tough times of teaching...this too shall pass. And it will...

I hope some of these tips that I have learned over the years will help you as first year/beginning teachers! Like I said, after 11 years, I still continue to learn day after day, year after year. It is a continuous cycle of reflection and learning.

I don't know where this school year is going, but it is flying by faster than any other school year, IMO! Before you know it spring will be here (I'm sure my northern friends are wishing for this on a daily basis!)

So next week marks one of my favorite themes to teach this school year: Read Across America/ Dr. Seuss!! I am so excited to receive this shirt that I ordered from Claire Lynn Designs in the mail:

Next week we are doing a culmination of non-fiction study and snacks to celebrate our friend, Theodor Seuss Geisel. I have my favorites ready and so much more:

I don't know if you saw, but sweet Michelle over at Apples and ABC's found these Dr. Seuss videos for $7 at Target!!! Say what?!?! You better believe I ran there as fast as I could.

We will be starting off our week next week with my brand new non-fiction unit: Let's Talk About Theodor Seuss Geisel.

I don't know about you, but my students just LOVE nonfiction studies. It opens up a whole new world of interest for them! To prep, I have printed out these vocabulary cards and colorful posters. As with any unit, I always like to address the vocabulary first and foremost. I cut out the vocabulary card and place them in our vocabulary corner on our whiteboard.

For the younger grades, I like to keep information simple. Therefore, I created these colorful posters with each aspect of Dr. Seuss's life that we will review throughout the week and use to complete our Theodor Seuss Geisel Fact Keepers! I leave these up on the board throughout our study. My students love these fact keepers with all of our nonfiction units, because it's a keepsake that they can take home and look back on whenever they want.

Incorporating writing is a huge importance to me in the classroom. We use thinking maps several times a week. Once we learn the information on the posters, we will be filling out these graphic organizers and putting our thoughts together into writing.

Perhaps my MOST favorite part of this unit is the Theodor Seuss Geisel book study flip book that I created. We are going to pick 4 Dr. Seuss books and we will discuss our favorite part, characters/setting, problem/solution, predictions, and summarizing. Of course for the book study, I will be choosing from books of substance, not just the rhyming books of "Go Dog Go", so it aligns with the activities of the flip book.

Let's Talk About Turkeys Nonfiction Study + Freebie!

Gobble Gobble!!

Thanksgiving is coming near! I don't know about you, but I am in desperate need of a few extra days of R & R, turkey, and some retail therapy!

Until then, we are waddling into our nonfiction study on TURKEYS!!!

Not only are the holidays fun for the obvious reasons, but I just love to bring nonfiction studies into this time of year. My students are so excited and engaged to learn about nonfiction topics, such as pumpkins and turkeys.

In our Let's Talk About Turkeys nonfiction unit, we begin by discussing important vocabulary that pertains to turkeys, as well as study nonfiction books and pictures about turkeys.

We use our close reading posters to learn about each aspect of turkeys, including general information, habitat, offspring, features, the history of how turkeys evolve, differences and similarities between turkeys and chickens, and some fun trivia facts about turkeys (such as...did you know that turkeys have heart attacks?- My students get a kick out of that one!).

Throughout our studies, we use several graphic organizers to display our learning, such as circle, tree, bubble, and double bubble thinking maps. Then we take those organizers and transform our thoughts into writing.

The best part about this is the fact keeper booklet that they create as a keepsake to take home after this unit is complete. In their Fact Keeper is a vocabulary section, label a turkey, and several pages that they have to complete the sentences with the correct vocabulary for each topic learned about turkeys.

To change things up a little, we also create a turkeys fact craftivity booklet with turkey facts that we have learned! :) Who doesn't like craftivities right?!? We proudly display these on our writing bulletin board in the hallway.

Holidays Around the Blog!

Happy November 1st friends!,

I hope your littles had fun trick or treating last night! I'm still in recovery mode, but it was so heartwarming to see everyone dressed up so cute and excited.

Now the real fun begins...did you know there's only 53 days until Christmas?!?!

Yikes I know, but there's no better time to begin to collect your ideas. Today I'm joining Amy from Learning Lessons With Mrs. Labrasciano for her Holidays Around the Blog linky.

One of the highlights of the holiday season for my students is celebrating Holidays Around the World. I love to expose my students to different cultures and how they celebrate. It's so engaging for them to learn about.

Last year, I thought, "Why not place our Holidays Around the World lessons in a keepsake file?" So the Holidays Around the World Interactive Student Notebook was born!

Throughout the entire month of December, we learn about a different country each day to make it through 15 different countries/customs by Winter Break.

We use several books to supplement our unit. One is a Holidays Around the World book from Reading A-Z.

One of my favorites to read while we are studying Hanukkah is "Latkes and Applesauce"!

Here are a few other recommendations:

We begin by receiving our boarding pass to place in our ISN's:

Then we glue our passport in our ISN's so we can glue a stamp on it as we go along learning about each tradition.

Each day, we read about each country's traditions and glue it on the left side of the notebook. My students interact with it by underlining the pertinent information indicated at the bottom of each page.

Then my students create a foldable/craft for the right side of their notebook that relates to the country that we are studying. Here is an example for Italy:

Pumpkin Exploration F-U-N + Freebie!!

Hi there friends!!,

Friday officially marks the beginning of the most exciting time of the year. I call it the "triple whammy"- Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! I absolutely LOVE this time of year. Not only is it exciting for me, but it is a time for my students to get excited, and I feel like I can get back to the roots of what teaching is about: the enthusiasm and meaningful learning.

Every year, we do a Pumpkin Circuit in my classroom. These are pumpkin exploration centers that integrate multiple subjects for meaningful learning! I usually set up 5 centers that we rotate every 10-15 minutes around. *Side note: This is a good day to ask for volunteers. :)

My students love this day! They are completely engaged and making connections. Their favorite is the pumpkin eruption!

We also spend some time reading one of my favorite non fiction pumpkin books, "Pumpkin Pumpkin," by Jeanne Titherington. It is about the pumpkin life cycle and is perfect for the primary age.

Even though I loved Halloween as a kid (although my mom dressed me up in the same witch costume for 5 years in a row... :) ), I enjoy Halloween so much more as an adult. There are awesome Halloween decorations all over, haunted houses, and hundreds upon hundreds of kids trick or treat in our neighborhood. It is everything that I hoped my girls would be able to experience! It is truly a blast to partake in!

Johnny Appleseed Traveling Party + Freebie

Hello my sweet blogger friends,

Ahhh... fall is coming near. The weather is becoming milder (well, in Florida at this time of year, anything in the 80s is milder), Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is back.... It is definitely my favorite time of the year, which brings me to one of my many favorite days of the school year: My Johnny Appleseed Traveling Party!

On Apple Day, I don't like to do the traditional activities. Many years ago, I started doing the Johnny Appleseed Traveling Party with my students on Johnny Appleseed's birthday.

I usually set up 5 apple stations. With each station, I have a sign with a state that Johnny Appleseed either resided or lived in.

For this pack, I added 10 activities for differentiated purposes. Some of the activities include:

-Which Apple Do You Like the Best (taste testing different apples and graphing)
-Apple-licious Taste Testing (sample different apple products)

-Apple Oxidation (use different materials to determine whether the apple will turn brown or not)
-Apple Exploration (use math and science skills to describe your apple)
-Apple Parts (label parts of an apple)

Additional activities included in the pack are:
-Crockpot Apple Crisp (with a how-to writing to accompany it)
-Apple Eruption (use different ingredients to make an apple volcano)
-Apple Play Doh (students will make apple play doh and complete a sequencing sheet on how they made it)
-Apple Life Cycle Craftivity
-Johnny Appleseed Pot Hat (students will make a pot shaped hat to wear on their head like Johnny Appleseed)

It really helps to have parent volunteers help run the stations; however, I have had years where parental involvement is non-existent. You may choose to do these activities with your students throughout the week or pick some activities that are simple if you don't have any volunteers.

To begin this week, I send home a parent letter asking for donations of certain apple products and for each student to donate an apple of any color. I also ask for volunteers in advance. I have always been very fortunate with having most of my students bring in an apple!
On the day of, I slice the apples 20 minutes before we begin our stations. Our stations last anywhere from 10-15 mins a piece. It runs like a well-oiled machine!

Monday Made It + TPT sale time!!

Happy Monday Friends,

I'm getting ready to venture into my classroom tomorrow! EEEK!! This year I am moving to a new school, so my classroom is starting from scratch. It is such an exciting, yet nerve wracking time!

Today I'm linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for Monday Made It!!

First I made some decorative items for my classroom. I made this "READ" decoration that I am going to hang using Command hooks. I found the zebra plates at Hobby Lobby and the self adhesive letters at Walmart!!

Next up, I made a sign for my classroom door! I bought a canvas at Hobby Lobby. I found a zebra stencil at Hobby Lobby also and used a black paint pen to do the stenciling. Then, I made a name tag from pink cardstock and letter stickers, added some gems, and VOILA!

I also made my helper chart for my rock star classroom!!! I couldn't find a helper chart that I loved. Then the idea popped into my head one day. Why not take individual pictures of my students and make them into "backstage passes". Then I will hang them under each job.

I also created & ordered this banner from Vistaprint. Since our school is doing a rock star theme, I am going to hang this on the board for Meet the Teacher. Folks, I am IN LOVE with this sign!!!

Lastly, I have been feverishly working on my Rockin' Through My Alphabet pack! I am going to use this as a fun review for my firsties the first few weeks of school. This pack includes a poster for each letter of the alphabet, a QR code that links to a song for each letter, a list of songs with links if you do not choose to use QR codes, and a workbook to reinforce students' knowledge on their letters and sounds.

Happy Motherload of Monday Made Its!!!

Ok I have a confession to make...I have totally been a SLACKER this summer! :(

Then I had a panic attack this past week! I only have 2 weeks until school is back. Oh boy!

So be prepared for the motherload of Monday Made Its that I am about to bring your way. I'm linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics!

Keep on reading though, because I have some freebies that are headed your way!

First off, I have been working on classroom décor packs for my friends and myself. I am changing after 5 years of doing a pirate theme to doing a rock star theme. I am so STINKIN' excited!

I created this *editable* rock star themed pack!

Here are a few examples of what I included:

I had to have some rock star subway art, so I created these inspirational quotes from famous musicians! I found the frames at IKEA for $1.99 each. They are plastic instead of glass which is perfect for those little classroom accidents!

Then I did some more creating for my classroom! My colors are pink, black, and white zebra stripes this year. I had the hardest time finding pink caddies this year, when one day...VOILA! There they were at my most favorite store...Target!! :) I created the tags and got some zebra ribbon at Hobby Lobby (another favorite of mine). I wrapped it around the caddy and hot glued it in spots. This is how they came out!

Next up, I worked on table signs for each of my tables. I also found these plastic frames at IKEA (no glass involved ;)) They came in a 2 pack for .99 cents each. You can't beat that price!

Next up I bought some Pop Rocks and created a tag that says, "First Grade is Going To Rock!". I also made tags for Pre-K through 5th. This is what the final product looks like:

Right now, I feel like I'm on a long car ride asking, "Are we there yet?" We are finally nearing the end of this post. There is one more item I created. The new school that I am starting at is big into Reading Counts. I created a Reading Counts clip chart in my theme to track the number of points that my students are earning. As they get to the next level, there will be special prizes that they can earn! I'm excited to implement this!

I have lived in the Sunshine State since I was 5 years old. I am originally from New Jersey. When I try to tell people that, my husband just laughs & says "You're from Florida!" And I am proud to be a Floridian. I grew up in Deltona which is the next town over from where I live now. I went to college up in Tallahassee, FL at Florida State University! Go 'Noles!

After college, I returned home & got married. About 3 years ago, we moved to Debary which is the next town over from where I grew up. It has that hometown feel. It is a small, very established town.

Debary has a history that goes back into the 1800s when the Timacuan Indians lived here. In 1871, a wealthy wine merchant named Samuel Frederick deBary built what is now known as Debary Hall, which is a 20 room mansion that still stands today. It housed several visitors including Ulysses S. Grant and Grover Cleveland.

Debary is on the famous St. Johns River so there is a lot of boating around here!

We are about 30 minutes from Daytona Beach and Orlando, which means I spend a lot of time on the World's Famous Beach and with Mickey Mouse. The weather is ultra hot in the summer, but most years our winter is very mild (except for last year when we were all freezing in the United States!) We are usually able to enjoy our beaches by March!

Wow! Happy New Year Friends!,

It's hard to believe another year has come and gone! 2013 was an amazing year for me & is going to be a hard year to beat, but I'm ready to tackle 2014 head on.

Wanting...I just started watching Scandal a few nights ago on Netflix! O.M.G! I flew through season 1 already & I can't wait to start on season 2. I was instantly addicted! Who here watches Scandal?

Needing...Another week of Winter Break! I have enjoyed having this winter break off so much. No stress, time to work on creating...it's fabulous!

My favorite memory... Both of my daughters' first Christmas. My little baby Reagan just celebrated her first Christmas this year. Here is a picture of my girls!:

Happy Winter Break folks!,

I am taking the time in this post to make up for lost time. I don't like making New Years Resolutions, but if I'm to make one, it's to BLOG MORE!

I used to be so good at blogging. I would blog everyday, then life hit me & a baby later plus more demands in teaching= lack of time!

I'm kinda (okay maybe EXTREMELY) obsessed with instagram. It involves one of my favorite hobbies: picture taking!

3. This is the most popular picture that I posted on Instagram. These are the birthday cups that I made at the beginning of the year for my students. As you see, they look like ice cream floats! :)

My students absolutely love receiving these on their birthdays. I definitely plan on making these again next year!

2. I love posting quotes & sayings and when I stumbled across this, I knew I had to post it! With all we go through with teaching, this describes our career perfectly. Although it is tough at times, I am sure many of us wouldn't trade it for the world. Teaching is filled with the most passionate professionals that I know, which inspires me to be the best that I can be!

And finally...

This is our first official family portrait. It is impossible to get my husband to take pictures, so I was so excited when I was finally able to convince him to do it! This is always a picture that I will treasure!!

1. I have started juicing as of 5 days ago. My Christmas present to myself was to buy a juicer. My years of bad eating have caught up to me & now I'm having some health issues due to this. Now my goal is to make myself healthier again.

2. Folks, I admit it...I've been a bad blogger. Having a baby this year consumed my time. Now I'm starting to renew that spark that blogging & TPT creating has brought to my life. My goal is to blog 2-3 times a week, so I am not making an unreasonable goal.

3. I also want to be better prepared each day. I am bad about prepping everything last minute. I want to try to prepare everything for school the week before so I'm not running around like crazy the day of.

4. Avoid people that bring me down! Unfortunately there are some negative, hateful people out there. Sometimes you don't have to do anything to make them resent you. Unfortunately there are 1 or 2 out there that are like that toward me. I have come to the realization that there is not anything I can do to make them like me, so oh well. There's no sense in beating myself up to figure out how these people will like me. I am who I am & I love myself for who I am!

5. Maximize my family time! I want to spend more time enjoying activities with my kids and just having fun being the best mom I can be to them!

What?!?! December 1st already?!? Where did the year go? I can't believe how busy life has been lately. Since it's December already, here is my Currently from Farley over at Oh Boy 4th Grade!

I am loving that the Christmas season is upon us! I went out Black Friday shopping Thursday night and Friday morning to kick off the season. It gets me in the Christmas spirit (not the pushing, fighting, or meanness of people), just the shopping!

We had our first family portraits done last night!! I am so excited to share one with you. This is our first picture since the baby was born!
