I'm off to The Gorge Amphitheater to attend Sasquatch! music festival this weekend. Andrew, my roommate Sam, and I are taking a mini-road trip to Washington and I can't wait! There are sooo many bands playing that I've been dying to see live: The Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, The Tallest Man on Earth, Mumford & Sons, etc etc etc.

Chances are I won't be blogging (Not sure how I'm even going to charge my laptop? We are camping—I don't do so well with camping.) but follow me on Instagram because I'll definitely be taking lots of photos :)

Criss Cross Applesauce

Things have been a little crazy over here (per ushe) since I'm getting ready to go to away for the long weekend. Here's an outfit I wore to work last week: A simple peplum, colored cardigan, and jeans—nothing too fancy. This top is super comfy and stretchy and I love the criss-cross detailing in back! I usually can't pull off shirts with open back details because they always show my bra, but this one hits at just the right spots!

A Much-Needed Adventure

These past few weeks have been crazy and after finally finishing all my midterm exams and projects, Andrew and I went on a (much-needed) Saturday adventure. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time we were able to spend the entire day together, but it was so nice! We started the day by taking a drive up PCH and had brunch at Marmalade Cafe. Then, we randomly decided to visit Pepperdine since we had both heard the campus was supposed to be amazing...and it certainly lived up to its reputation! I seriously don't know what it would be like to go to a school with that kind of ocean view, but I can definitely tell you I wouldn't get much studying done.

I decided to wear my tried and true Night-and-Day anthro dress because it always seems like the perfect dress for a Saturday adventure :) I paired it with my new acid wash denim jacket that I haven't taken off all week since I picked it up from work. I love how it still has a classic cut, but gives a little edge to anything I pair it with. I also wore my vintage Dooney that I found at a thrift shop near my apartment for $30! I was actually in shock when I found it since recently Dooney & Bourke has been reproducing their All-Weather Leather pieces for like $300+!

I wore this outfit for a book-signing event for Heirloom Modern that we threw last week at Anthro. I decided to test drive my new heels from Zara that purchased on an impulse after seeing this blog post my editor wrote a couple weeks ago (looks like our marketing is working—even on me!). Unfortunately, they gave my feet some major blisters, But I mean, I guess that's what I get for wearing new shoes for a 6-hour shift! Despite the fact that I was hobbling around by the end of the night, I love working events at my store. One of the biggest perks was all the mini cupcakes, whoopie pies, and macarons (food + clothes...what could be better!?) I was able to take home ~~for me~~ for all my roommates at the end of my shift :)

Because the event was a little dressy, I decided to wear this fancy blouse from Ruche, and layered a black camisole underneath to create a contrast against the lace organza design. Even though my outfit had dressy elements, it wasn't too fussy so it was perfect for work and definitely a combo I will be re-wearing in the future!

I wore this nautical outfit to a shift at work (although it could have just as easily worked for a little trip on my yacht, ha) and my co-workers appropriately called my t-shirt "vintage Anthro" since it's so old! It's crazy that I've been with the company so long that I can say things like that. It has been almost two years people! Where has the time gone!?

Anyway, this may be my only post for the week. This quarter is kicking my butt and between Anthro and my internship I'm easily working 30+ hours a week. Oh, and then there's school. So thaaaaat's what I've been up to lately. I'm pretty much on the verge of a nervous breakdown like 24/7 (just ask Andrew and my wonderful roommates) and counting down the days until summer. Even though I'll still be busy, it's going to be so nice to take a break from school.

Okay, off to study statistics (aka my favorite subject in the WORLD). Wish me luck!

I've been a little behind on blogging and definitely wore this outfit last Friday...better late than never I suppose! This is the first time I have worn this dress since I got back from Europe, and I couldn't find the right jacket to wear with it so I settled on my light denim jacket. The classic floral dress and denim jacket combo never seems to gets old for me. There are times when I go out of my way to try something "new" with my outfits, but sometimes it's just best to stick to what's tried and true.

I finally gave in to the peter pan collar trend! At first the style didn't appeal to me, but I loved the lace collar on this striped top so much that I couldn't resist! This past weekend Andrew and I ventured into Silverlake so that I could do some research for one of my classes. And by research, I mean having brunch at Millie's and walking around the neighborhood. I know I've said this before...but sometimes being a Sociology major is just the best (minus all the paper writing and reading that comes after the research. that...is not quite as fun). I love exploring new parts of LA, and Andrew was a pretty big fan of Silverlake after we visited. While I'm not sure what my post-grad plans are, I think it's safe to say that Silverlake had been added to "the list" of potential future homes :)

For my outfit, I decided to break out this striped midi dress and kept things simple with my trusty denim jacket. Because midi dresses have a tendency to make me look shorter than normal, I wore some wedges. Funny story about these wedges: I bought them four years ago when I worked my first job at a shoe store in high school. They were in style at the time, but slowly slid out of style. Well guess what, this season I've been noticing a lot more platforms and these shoes fit right in! So, here's to hoarding shoes long enough for them to make their way back in style! And that, my friends, is how I save money.*

Same o', Same o'

Polka dots seriously never get old for me. I've worn this dress a solid three other times on my blog (which in real life means I've probably worn it at least 20 times...woops now you know my secret!) and I still love it just as much as when I first bought it! As I was going back through my blog archives, I thought it was funny how I took these photos in (almost) the exact same place as I did when I first blogged about this dress over a year ago. Might seem silly, but I'm in this weird almost-end-of-college nostalgic phase and it's nice to use my blog to "reminisce" on old times. You should have seen me the other night...I spent a solid hour going back through all my posts from study abroad. I'm still kind of in shock at how quickly time has passed since I came home.

I should also probably mention that the reason for this sudden nostagia is the fact that I've decided to finish early and graduate this December instead of next March or June. Sooo, I'm sure you can understand my ~~major~~ minor anxiety about this. But until December when life becomes a bit more uncertain, I plan to keep doing the same o' same o' (which might include loitering at the top of this parking garage on a weekly basis) and enjoying every minute of it.

(Almost) Summer Nights

For most people, date night is typically Friday or Saturday. But lately, Andrew and I have gotten into the habit of going out on Thursday nights. Even though we both have class and work the next day, my Thursdays are usually free (unless I have a shift at Anthro), so it's nice to venture out of the house while it's still light outside. Also, side note: I have been loving these long ~~summer~~ spring days! Driving home from work when it's still light outside has been amazing and makes me feel like I have way more time to get stuff done during the day.

For our date night, I decided to break out my new lace top and paired it with my favorite denim vest to make it a little less girly. I'm not quite sure what decade I was channelling, but my whole outfit felt a little retro. We ate at CPK (I found a $25 gift card at the bottom of my wallet...which was great) and walked around by the beach. Luckily after dinner it was only 7:30, so we managed to catch the sunset and any ill-feelings I had been having about LA quickly melted away :)

High-Waisted Wonders

I used to avoid high-waisted pants like the plague. And not because I didn't like them, but simply because I was convinced they wouldn't work on my frame. Well...fast forward to about a month or so ago when I found these lovely black trousers and everything changed. However, even with my newfound love for high-waisted pants, when I first saw these trousers from Ruche I wasn't sure if I could pull off anything lightly colored. In case you didn't know, black is very forgiving. Other colors? Nooot so much. But luckily, once they arrived at my door and FIT (hence this tweet), I realized they would be great for everyday wear and easily styled for work or school. (Oh, and very stretchy too—always a plus!)

Hello again :) Sorry for the mini-blogging break, but things have been pretty busy over here! It's only the third week of the quarter, so I'm still trying to get into a rhythm with school, work, and my new internship. Plus, I somehow already have exams...which I'm definitely not okay with.

I wore this outfit to dinner (and by dinner I mean a wonderful Chipotle burrito) and a trip to the Ice-Cream Lab this weekend. I've been super tired, so I wanted to keep my outfit simple for my low-key date night with Andrew. While I love bright colors and prints for spring, sometimes it's nice to just go back to the basics. It's also been kind of gloomy in LA lately, so I've been falling back on a lot of my favorites from winter when I can't decide what else to wear!

This plaid shirt from Anthropologie is one of my go-to tops when I don't know what else to wear. Instead of simply pairing it with jeans, I decided to make my outfit a little more feminine by wearing it with my cream lace skirt. This skirt is one of my favorites and pairs well with a lot of different colors and prints. I think the two pieces worked well together, and it was a great (and comfortable) outfit for my closing shift at work! Sometimes, it's nice to dress a little preppy without being too over the top. I've also noticed that these sunglasses make everything look a little more retro...which I, of course, am perfectly okay with :)

I wore this outfit out to brunch with Andrew this weekend. But for some reason, (don't ask me why) I stopped liking it halfway through the day and completely changed my outfit when I went out shopping with my friends later on. Sometimes, an outfit works for a few hours...and then it's time to move on? Who knows...but my dirty laundry bin was not happy with me.

Anywaaays, I hadn't worn my black midi skirt in the longest time, so I finally decided to wear it out and paired it with a striped top to keep things simple. However, to add a little color/print to my outfit, I threw on my favorite map print scarf that I found over winter break. I think we have been over (many times...) my obsession with maps, so here's one more item to remind you! Although, I have to be honest, the map print is not exactly geographically accurate. Unless Mexico and Spain have been neighbors this whole time and I've just been out of the loop...

Before finding this striped Madewell skirt, I had been searching for something like it for the longest time! The only problem was, all the skirts I found at stores like H&M and Forever 21 were a little too short for my taste. I wanted a striped skirt that I could wear to school and work without having to constantly pull it down and fuss with it. So, I finally gave in and invested in this Madewell one after seeing Kendi of Kendi Everyday wear it a few times on her blog and convince me...

I decided to make my outfit more casual by layering a crochet sweater over my skirt, rather than tucking it in and wearing it high-waisted. I then added a little color to my ensemble with my denim vest, because I thought a full denim jacket would look too bulky. That's one great thing about this vest...it adds just enough denim to any outfit without overpowering it. Although, I'll be honest, I have attempted to wear it with a few outfits and it has made me look like a weird 90's pop star. So, MAYBE denim vests don't work with everything...

Beachside

One of my and Andrew's favorite places to go when we are back home is Balboa Island. It's a cute little beach town that is technically an "island" (by like 10 feet of water...) and is always fun to spend the day at. All the houses are so beautiful, and it's nice to walk down the coast and then take the ferry over to Balboa Peninsula to play arcade games and ride the ferris wheel. We were both so busy over spring break that we weren't able to spend an entire day together until Saturday, so it was nice to end our break at Balboa.

For my outfit, I decided to wear my new—and amazingly comfortable—sweatshirt dress. I had been eyeing it at Madewell for months and finally treated myself to it as a reward for landing my new internship (more details soon!). At first I was worried it was too plain, but then I realized its grey color makes it easy to pair with any colored accessories! That's the thing about simple basics—I have to force myself to buy them, but once I do, I always get such good use out of them by remixing them in new and different ways. So...don't be surprised if you see quite a lot of this grey dress from now on :)

Spring Mix

Sometimes it's nice to wear two trends at once to see how they work together. Such was the case with this outfit. I recently picked up this gingham shirt at Forever 21, after seeing my best friend Hayley wearing it...and deciding I needed it too—this is the only good thing about us living in two different cities! But, because I didn't bring much home for spring break, I didn't have very many bottom options to pair it with. I knew I wanted to wear something more than jeans, so when I saw my mint skirt in my suitcase, I thought it was crazy enough of a combo that it just. might. work. And...I think it did! My whole outfit felt very springy, and I am glad that the more neutral navy color of my gingham shirt was able to off-set the brightness of my mint pleated skirt.

So, here's my little piece of spring styling advice: You never know what will or will not work until you try it on! The great thing about spring is that you can get away with a lot more color and print mixing. So, when you have the chance...go for it!

Pastel Pop

I had been eyeing this crochet blouse on Ruche's website for quite a while until I finally took the plunge and bought it. That's the thing about me and online shopping. I will keep items in my shopping cart for weeks—or even months—before I finally make the commitment to buy them. And when I finally hit "purchase," it is usually out of some random momentary impulse that only comes around once in a blue moon. For instance, with this blouse, I had convinced and I mean convinced myself I didn't need it. But then the stress of final exams set in...and one day I found myself desperately needing a "reward" for all my ~~hard~~ work. So that, my friends, is how this lovely blouse came to be :)

I decided to keep the color scheme of my outfit fairly neutral (just like I did here) to let the simple pastel lining of the blouse stand out. I really like the lilac detailing on this top, and it's one of the elements that initially drew me in. Even with the lilac pop, however, I still felt like my outfit was lacking a little color. So, I added my vintage orange necklace for another pop of color. Although I'm not usually a fan of purple and orange, I think the pastel version of the color combo works pretty well together.

P.S. How is it already Thursday of my spring break? I feel like all I have been doing this week is preparing myself for the quarter ahead and haven't had much time to just sit back and r e l a x. Seriously though...most of the time I feel like I'm just running around like a chicken with its head cut off!

Tailored Dots

I have seen almost every style blogger I follow wear some version of this polka dot button-up. But, every time I would go shopping, I could never find one that fit my style...or my budget. However, last weekend I ventured into Urban Outfitters determined to find this polka dot shirt, even though the website told me it was sold out of all stores in my area. And, low and behold...I found ONE (in my size) in a pile of these shirts that look just like it but have a slightly different polka dot pattern. It seriously felt like Christmas morning, and I guarantee I will be wearing this shirt all through the spring and summer (and fall and winter)...

I decided to keep my outfit simple, but paired my polka dot button-up with a pearl collar necklace to add a little sparkle. Classic combinations like this never get old, and I have found myself gravitating towards looks like this more and more. Also, I think this look could transition easily into night by adding a simple black blazer and maybe some darker ankle boots or heels.

Around the World

My spring break is going to be filled with lots of errands. I've got three appointments I avoided making all quarter, and a whole lot of sleep to catch up on. Funny story: last night I took a nap at 6pm...and woke up at 3am. That's definitely going to be good for keeping my sleep schedule regular...

I wore this outfit a few nights ago to dinner with my family. I didn't bring too many clean clothes home for spring break, so while I slowly tackle my pile of laundry, I have been rotating the same few pieces everyday. Luckily, these jeans don't get dirty too easily, and this jacket matches with pretty much everything! I have also been wearing my new map watch from Urban almost non-stop since I got it. I'm a sucker for map prints, and this watch is no exception. It's a nice reminder of all the places I have been in the past year...and all the places I still have yet to see :)

Some Personality

I wore this outfit for an interview I had earlier this week. For companies with a more casual dress code, it's hard to walk the line between looking professional and still fitting in with the company culture. It's always important to look put together, but that doesn't mean you have to wear a black blazer and pencil skirt to every interview. For my outfit, I opted for this button-up, because I thought the print gave it more personality than just a simple white dress shirt. I then decided to pair my trusty mustard midi skirt with it because the color matched well with my shirt, and the length made it interview appropriate.

Later in the day, I swapped my skirt out for boyfriend jeans, and my heels out for Sperry's. I usually don't wear button-ups, but I really like the feel of this printed shirt and think it will be a great piece for spring. I've also been noticing a ton of "menswear" button-ups online, so I can definitely sense a spring trend on the horizon! Loose shirts like this are perfect because they can be worn with pants, skirts, or even worn open over a top or dress.

Luck of the Irish

On Saturday Andrew and I took a study break and ventured into Brentwood to try a place called Lemonade. Then, we got some dessert at Blockhead's Shavery Co. where we had "snow cream," which I'd like to think of as a healthy version of ice cream. It was fun just driving around the city, and a much needed break from paper writing. For my outfit, I decided to get a little dressed up and wore my favorite Ruche blouse with black jeans. Lately, I have been really into layering necklaces under collared shirts, so I added my vintage cameo to accessorize.

P.S. This outfit would have been perfect for St. Patrick's Day, but unfortunately I wore it a day too early! Yesterday I was too busy studying for finals and baking to wear anything more than a sweatshirt and yoga pants. I'm also pretty bummed that I wasn't in Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I guess I left the country just a few months too early...

Originally, I was just going to wear my peplum top and black jeans to work, but I decided to throw on my vest at the last minute. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this denim vest makes all my outfits a bit edgier. I also like that it made my simple feminine outfit a little more trendy.

P.S. TGIF! Even though I have a weekend of studying ahead, I've also got big plans to bake muffins and go to brunch as many times as possible (aka twice)...which in my book are plans worth looking forward to.

Even though this week is filled with studying, papers, and finals, I decided to get a little dressed up before I lose all my willpower to wear normal clothes and only run around in my bright yellow sweatpants (that I happen to be wearing while typing this post...). I didn't notice while we were taking these photos, but it looks like ivy in the background matches the design of my cardigan. Maybe it's also a "symbolic" sign that I should be buckling down and studying like an Ivy Leaguer...ha ha okay bad joke.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite cardigans, but I feel like I never get a chance to wear it. The ribbon design is so whimsical that it can be a little hard to match, but I think it worked well with my cream lace top. I like the idea of mixing different textures, but keeping the color scheme fairly neutral so that the outfit doesn't have too much going on at once.

P.S. This is officially my 300th blog post! It's crazy to me...it feels like I started this little blog just yesterday!
