What I like in Charactors

Whenever I watch a TV show or a movie most of the time I leave feeling unstatisfied with the entertainment experience mainly because I was not satisified with the charactors and the way they were developed. I feel like most shows relie too much upon special effects or weird story lines instead of taking the extra steps it takes to develop charactors. I do not want to get into examples right now because I feel it would be a distraction from my entry but I can say this when I was writing this book I worked very hard on charactor development. I showed why the charactors behaved the way they did. I also put a lot of effort to make sure there was no questions left on why this happened, or what happened. After all if someone buys my book I want to make sure they get the best possible reading experience because I consider it a privilege for people to read my stuff.

All is not relative

In this book I was trying to show how can impact an entire culture. I know most people do not take the subject serious and it is only something that nerds talk about in school. This very far from the truth because philosophy is in every aspect of our lives which is not bad if it is a philosophy based upon Christian beliefs but if it is not based on Christian beliefs it can be very destructive to an entire culture because it will cause people to act in a self destructive manner. Strength Comes from Virtue.

The main source of Regly's strength to stand against the Nephullum was that he held on to clear sense of right and wrong directed by God's teachings. The reason for that is that a strong sense of morals and ethics create virtue in a person and it is virtue that produces strength. If one knows that they are right it will give them the strength to resist temptation and be willing to sacrifice for their beliefs and cause but if a person does not have virtue it will leave them open to being lead around blindly by evil leaders. It is absolutes that protect us from the abirtary decesions of men. The Nephullum as a whole lost their virtue and became weak which resulted them being lead astray by evil leaders but Regly was able to stand against a whole evil culture because his virtue gave him the strength to. The Main Influences of the Nephullum Culture

When I was developing the Nephullum culture I was influenced by two things. The first one was religous hypcrosy. I grew up in church and I have seen the effects of religous hypocrites. I have seen them be the first to go to church and volunteer and place themselves up front and then they use their activities to justify bad behavior they feel that they are so important to the church that they can act anyway they choose. At first the Nephullum were good and served God but as time went on they became religous hyprocrites and that opened the door for them to be blind to their own faults and sins. The second thing that influenced me was the hippie culture of the 1960's unlike most Americans I do not respect the hippie culture I feel like that was one of the most shameful episodes in American history in fact I put it right up there with slavery. My reasoning is very sound because of the unforgiveness they had towards their parents they are now trying to destroy everything their parents built and that culture just enabled their unforgivness and self pity instead of encouraging them to learn from the mistakes of their parents and to improve but instead they have become something worse than their parents and this caused me to model the Nephullum after the hippies from the perversion, drug use and self rightousness to finally their ultimate fate which is in my book just go to wwww.ageofarrogancenovel.com

The Message of the Book

The message that I am trying to show in the Age of Arrogance is to realistically protray the effects of a sinful lifestyles on individuals and eventually a whole culture. I am so tired of seeing so much entertainment show that it is accutially normal and healthy for people to participate in perversion or drug use or lie.etc... Which actually very far from the truth. I have worked with a lot of people who's lives have been destroyed from living that way and I hope to make some people think that there is consquences for their behavior. Sinful lifestyles makes a culture sick and does not make it stronger.

When I started to work on the Age of Arrogance I wanted to create something that was uniquely Christian. I did not want to copy anyone else's ideas. I did not want wizards,vampires,werewolves or anything from popular sci fi shows. So I choose the Nephullum. I have to admit that I have seen a few things with the Nephullum in them but they did not do justice in the way they were protrayed. The first question I asked was what could of been their orgin? The second question I asked was how could they had fell? Those two questions caused a very corrupt culture to develop and a very brutal and primative worldview as well. Gods Judgement

When I wrote this story I was trying to portray what God's judgement really is like. In our culture we have the perception that God's judgement is natural disasters or lightening coming from the sky. Even though He can judge like that most of the time God's judgement comes from Him withdrawing His wisdom and allowing people to continue on with their destructive behavior. I showed that in the story. As the Nephullum were continuing to behave badly and choose rebellion God would respect their free will and allow them to follow the logical course of their behavior and at the end of the story they finally reaped everything they did and the judgement did not come from God but rather from their foolish choices. Culture Reflects Charactor

As I was writing this book I was inspired by how a persons charactor reflects in the surroundings that they choose to put themselves in. For example if someone has a strong interest in cars they will surround themselves with posters, and books or anything else related to cars and that can be applied to everyone. The way we live and the things that we surround ourselves reflects our charactor. So I applied this priniciple to a whole culture and the collective charactor of the culture. If one looks at ancient culltures and look at their religion, their artwork, their articture and music it will reflect the charactor of the culture. Some cultures reflect very morals and charactor while other reflect that they were very evil. So when I was developing the culture of the Nephullum I kept this in mind to make sure that their culture was a reflection of their charactor. I do not want to give away too many details of my work but I will say this I was showing that a culture is a reflection of the personal and moral choices of its people. When I was writing this story one of the things I wanted to do was to explore true love. I am not a fan of romance because in my opinion it is unrealistic and creates an illusion that cannot be met especially by real guys. So I asked myself what if there was true love? A love that was unconditional and a love that put ones desires aside for the good of the other person? So what I was exploring was the idea of an ideal love and as the story developed I feel like I was able to show what that love was like and it was sad but beautiful because it showed human beings at their best. Choices

As I was writing about the Age of Arrogance and as I was trying to develop the culture of the story. I tried to show that individual choices make up a culture. When a culture is developed it just does not happen overnite. Their is a lot of factors involved with it. Such as personal moral choices, the idea of what a leader is or how the people will choose or choose not to worship. As all of these choices are put together it forms the culture. I also showed in the story that even though their culture was corrupt that the individuals always had a choice to follow or to stand against the evil that was in their culture and unfortuantly the majority of the them choose not to, but one man did stand against the evil culture and not only saved himself but the woman he loved and several others to. Why Christians Have Problem Writing Sci Fi

When I started writing this book I started to research other Christian Sci Fi writers and I discovered there was a small group of them. As I was further researching this I saw an article stating that Christians have problems writing Sci Fi. I can tell right away why most Christians have problems writing in this genre. It is because of the philosophies that drive most Sci Fi stories for example in Star Wars there is the belief of pantheism and in Star Trek it is humanism and there is a lot of other examples but I do not want to go into all of them. As a Christian we believe in absolute right and wrong, and we believe that God created everything, and that someday God will judge everything and we have a hope in the future that is based upon the promises that God made in the Bible and it is that reason that we have not been able to write a lot of Sci Fi stories because it would require us to accept philosophies that are alien to our belief system. I do not mean to brag about myself but I have found a way to write a Sci Fi story without compromsing my beliefs and my story is very unique I have not copied anyother authors ideas. I took some charactors mentioned in the Bible and created a unique culture by using a Christian perspective on the other philosophies that this world has. The Question that was the Motovation for the Book.

One time I had a question; "What if Adam and Eve had children before they fell into sin?" As I thought of that some other questions arose what would they thought of their parents failure? Could they be the Sons of God mentioned in Genesis 6? after all their bodies would of been different than those of the fallen offspring of Adam so it is possible they could of been mistaken for angels when all they were was just another race of humans. This Book has Over Twenty Charactors

In the Age of Arrogance I put over twenty charactors. I did this because I was trying to write about an entire culture and I thought I could not cover everything properly by just focusing on a few people. I neccesserly do not care if anyone remembers a few charactors or not but I am aiming at trying to help them remember an entire culture and the contributions that was made by each individual. What inspired me to do that was reading history books they would cover the contributions of several people to a certain time period. For example if one wants to properly cover the American Revolution not only should they talk about George Washington but they should also talk about Sam Adams, Thomas Jefferson and several other people to get the proper understanding of what made that time period unique. Illeg- to stutter

This charactor is a true underdog. As a child he was picked as a failure because he was too thin with straggly hair and he had a bad stuttering problem. But Regly took him under his wing and mentored him. Even though he never overcame his stuttering problem he became a very trusted individual who was the equal to anyone because of his actions. But Illeg represents a lot of us because so many of us have imprefections weither we cannot speak well or we are not attractive physically or any other superficial barriers that society pushes on us. But those imprefections does not represent who we truly are and we can overcome those imprefections by our actions and gaining the trust of people as we lead our lives. Just like Illeg did. My brother came up with the idea of this charactor. She was very pretty and knew right from wrong but wanted to be accepted which led to her paying a heavy price. But as I was working with this charactor at the beginning of the book I really disliked her because of her putting acceptance of people above what she knew what was right. But as the story went on and she began to realize how wrong she was and felt trapped as a result I began to have sympathy for and at the end God works something out that allows her to escape. But I think there is a little of Dalia in all of us because we all have done things for acceptance even though we knew it was wrong and end up paying a heavy price for it. Chazeq-strength/Baar-brute

When I thought of the character of Chazeq/Baar I was inspired by a very gifted person physically who was fun loving and gentle and as time passed became a high school bully whom everyone feared because of his brutality and strength. That is why I changed his name to Baar which is the Hebrew word for brute. Because that is all he was because he relied so much on his strength that he forgot about the other aspects of his life such as intelligence and character. Another thing that inspired me was I remembered the Marvel Comics character of the Hulk. He was so strong but yet he was also very dumb. His favorite line was "Hulk mad!!" That is what I turned Baar into but instead of doing good I had him doing evil. Baar was a classic example of might makes right he was so strong that people feared him and let him do whatever he want and as a result Baar became arrogant and paid a dear price for it. Nathan-committed to give/Laquech-to take

When I created this character I remembered reading that there was power in charity. At first Nathan was a very giving individual but as time went on he learned that his reputation as a giver gave him influence over people. He was also very good at organizing people for charitable projects but as in the giving he learned that there was power in putting projects together. So as a result he only became friends with people who had something to offer him and expand his power base. He was a coward who enjoyed power but did not want to be up front to take the blame if something went wrong. He was always looking for a way to gain advantage over people and to manipulate them into performing his will. As a result of his attitude towards people he did not have any true friends he only had resources. But as result of his attitudes the once generous giving man turned into a twisted shell of what he used to be. Who was always telling different stories to suit his situation and could not be trusted because he would switch alliances at a moments notice. Chayil-"virtue'/Naphal- "to fall"

The character of Chayil/Naphal was one of the most vivid characters that I wrote about. At times I could almost hear his voice and see him in my mind. Hey maybe I need some meds but it is part of the job. He started out as one of the most trusted individuals in the Offspring who oversaw the day to day affairs and helped solve the problems. The Offspring trusted him so much that they put him on a pedestal and as a result he became addicted to the pedestal and he misused the trust that was placed in him to grab power. As a result of his addiction to power he was willing to turn away from all that was right just so he could dominate others lives. As a result of him dropping his morals and ethics for power and letting loose of everything that made him a good man and human he transformed into an animal like being. As I was thinking about his psychology I had him holding onto an object that his father made for him. At first glance it was inconsistent with his behavior but it really was an attempt on his part to hang onto his humanity. But in the end Naphals addiction to power destroyed him completely which was sad because it could of been avoided if he did not crave power so much.
I guess what inspired me to write about this character this way was that I have seen several leaders in religion, sports and politics that are placed on pedestals and the dangers that come from placing flawed people on a pedestal. A danger not only to them but to the people who follow them blindly without realizing that those people are no better than them. Yididuwith- A darling object/ Marah- bitter

This was one of the saddest characters I had to write about in the Age of Arrogance. When I started the book I made her the ideal woman with beauty, personality, and talent. But as the story developed because of the choices that she had made she ended up destroying herself. It all started when she put more emphasis on the development of her talent rather than her character. She was very good at what she did but she was an evil person at the end of the story. I drew my inspiration from this character from a couple of different things. The first one is that I have seen a lot of talented people that others admired because of their talent and tried to model themselves after, but in reality they are not very good people and very poor role models, and the second thing that inspired me was several years ago I came across a book about Wicca that said the most powerful tool a woman has to control men is her body. I took that to the logical conclusion in the Yididuwith/Marah character I had her using her sexuality to control people and at times I even had her using her sexuality as a weapon. It is sad because at the beginning of the story she was actually a very sweet person but she allowed bitterness and self pity to drive her to abuse herself and others. The Charactor Regly

Regly- solider/footman

When I thought of the charactor of Regly I drew some of my inspiration from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy written by J.R.R. Tolkien mainly the charactor of Frodo Baggins. What inspired me was that Frodo Baggins was not the greatest warrior such as Aragorn the King, or the Elves,or a great magican such as Gandolf the wizard.

But rather he was a short mild mannered charactor that no one would of thought carrying on the most important mission of destroying the ring. The reason that Frodo was chosen was because he had the strongest charactor to resisit the power of the ring and was willing to sacrifice everything for the good of Middle Earth. As I was thinking of this story at first I was not going to have any heros but it did not feel right and I came up with the charactor of Regly who was the most overlooked and unlikley hero. I had him facing some horrible decesions and temptations as he was trying to hold on to teachings that was given to him about right and wrong. I made Regly very human with desires such as anyone else but I also had him putting his desires aside for the good of others and doing what was right no matter what. I found Regly a very complicated charactor unlike the rest of the charactors whom I made like animals living on their base instincts who would react to according to what they wanted at the moment. I found Regly to be very thoughtful and intellegent and unlike the other charactors who were very impressed with their abilities Regly did not care about his abilities and rarely used them and if he did it was for the good of someone else and not to glorify himself. But because of his charactor he was able to make decesions that would have eternal consquences not only for himself for many others for generations to come.

Imagine a race of giants who had everything given to them. They had a perfect place to live, and they had guidance from a higher power anytime they wanted, and not only that, but they had superhuman abilities such as strength, flight, and great intelligence, with many other gifts.

Even though they had all of that to start with things were not perfect for them. This led to self pity and arrogance that caused a series of events that caused them to turn their great gifts into curses or the complete loss of the gifts (Read More).
