Lattest development in this area, a group of European Researchers has been working to make this dream come true, which now doing wide-ranging testing of new wearable technology with applications in a variety of fields and with the potential of protecting and even saving lives. The vital innovation is that the technology facilitates a new form of human-computer interaction comprising small, easily accessible body-worn computers that are always on and always responsive.

According to Michael Lawo, technical manager of the wearIT(at)work project, The Open Wearable Computing Framework being developed essentially comprises a central, easily wearable and hardware-independent computing unit which gives access to an ICT environment. Some of the basic components include wireless communication, positioning systems, speech recognition, interface devices, and low-level software platforms or toolboxes allowing these features to work together.

More further, read HERE.

Electronic paper

(Credit : Plastic Logic)

I had discussed this topic previously, under E-book title which what I stated is "advance invention which used only 0.08 mm thick of plastic" but not show the photos of that plastic, and in photo above, you can see the book what I meant before. Before this I was thought to come out with that an invention, which I got an idea after I read a book, wrote by Harun Yahya, entitle "matter - the other name for illusion" (you can download that book via this website : http://www.harunyahya.net/). That book was changed me a lot of how we should understand who we are, how we seeing actually, it's matter is reality or fake, etc. From how we seeing, basically, a photon go through our eyes, then convert to electrical signal, send to our brain to interprete that electical signal as images. What confusing scientists here is how we want to know everything we seen outside are real or fake. No one can answer this question. For those who want to know more about this complicated of what God was created, good for you to read that book.

Go to what we discussed earlier, this plastic logic e-book maybe will transform conventional book to e-book later on. That is one example, other examples like Jet airtaxi's, Anti-gravity discovered, quatum computing, etc. And a lot of other weird assumptions was quoted by Brian Yap, a well-known futurist.

Some look like funny, some we can't imagine, some we think impossible, and many more assumptions. That are what I felt after read all his predictions. But, I think, it's useful for scientists and researchers as a reference for what our world will would like in the next near future. These premiss maybe can be used in our research proposal. Here, I quote a few interesting predictions for a technological future stated by him.

1. Nextgen communication (1000Mbps-10000Mbps) 2013-2020
2. It's not something weird anymore. Here I will quote a few developments in textiles industry which was successful produced.

1. Smart Fabrics Monitor Physiological Signs

Credit : Zephyr

This an innovative product was invented by the Zephyr Company, which has developed advanced fabrics that can monitor physilogical signs. The sensors that are woven into a person's clothes and can gather and transmit real-time physiological data, such as vital signs or other biomechanical information. Combining wireless connectivity and graphical diagnostic tools, Zephyr developed flexible sensors that are capable of detecting and measuring displacement, distance, force, strain and various other relevant data. The information can either be stored or immediately transferred to a nearby computer for analysis. Its can be worn around the chest.

There are 3 more products revealed by Zephyr company, i.e Impact SF- "a system which can detect and quantify impact", ShoePod- "measures ground reaction forces and ShoePod Diabetic- "detects those conditions that lead to foot ulceration, delivering sufficiently advanced warning to enable the prevention of the ulcer and the possible subsequent amputation".

More details click here.

2. So, how we can grab a dream to come out with textiles embedded with a lot of devices and can be fling into washing machine. But now, it's not a problem anymore. A team of researchers from Gent University in Belgium led by Project Coordinator Jan Vanfleteren are currently developing in the framework of a project named SWEET (Stretchable and Washable Electronics for Embedding in Textiles). From their website, a few testing have demonstrated to show the ability of their devices operated in water and also can be used as stretchable thermometer. They also have develop a few stretchable materials like BioFlex which can be use for implant, stretchable watch, stretchable heater, stretchable waveguides and antennas and stretchable technology publications.

More details, click here.

3. Warming textiles

This technology maybe not so needed by a country like Malaysia, and maybe very appreciated at 4 seasons countries. This technology was developed by German company, WarmX, a line of clothing which includes tiny silver fibers are woven into the knitted fabric and supplied with electricity by a small rechargeable battery. The knitted fabric is warmed directly on the skin creating a warm feeling even the temperature outside is very low.

The WarmeX clothing can get wet and continue working, they can even be washed in low temperature in a washing machine without a problem. The undershirt is made from a mix of Polycrolon Microfibre, superfine merino wool, cotton and acrylic. The silver fibers woven into the knitted fabric reduce the spreading of bacteria and body odors.

The power unit includes a 2200mAh Li-Ion rechargeable battery which is good for between 2.5 and 5.5 hours (depending on the heating level used). A full recharge takes about three hours and although the battery cannot be replaced by the user it should be good for at least 500 recharge cycles.

More details, click here.

4. No-Contact Jacket

Lately, we always heard about a girl disturbed by unscrupulous people. And, this technology invented specially for women that repels an assailant trying to grab the wearer with a powerful but non-lethal 80,000 volt shock while it's active. The jacket insulation protects the wearer from the delivered electrical charge, which causes the assailant to experience a painful, uncomfortable shock, disorientation, and loss of balance, enabling the woman to escape.

The inner layer of the jacket is made with a conductive fiber powered by a 9-volt battery, which builds a high-voltage but low-amp charge through a series of step-up circuits, much like the technology used in commercial stun guns. The wearer must arm the jacket to activate it by turning a small lock on an outer sleeve using a key, and then charge it by pressing a button, held in the palm, attached by a cord to the inside of one of the sleeves.

It's not available to purchase yet, but according to their website, its predicted to be sell around AS 1000.

More details, click here.

5. Suddenly, your mum was afflicted by heart attack and immediately sent to hospital. What is actually heart attack? A heart attack (also known as a myocardial infarction) is the death of heart muscle from the sudden blockage of a coronary artery by a blood clot. Coronary arteries are blood vessels that supply the heart muscle with blood and oxygen. Blockage of a coronary artery deprives the heart muscle of blood and oxygen, causing injury to the heart muscle. Injury to the heart muscle causes chest pain and pressure. If blood flow is not restored within 20 to 40 minutes, irreversible death of the heart muscle will begin to occur. Muscle continues to die for six to eight hours at which time the heart attack usually is "complete." The dead heart muscle is replaced by scar tissue.

For some people, maybe they have goes through a situation like above. So maybe you wonder what really happen inside our heart. The other common things we have heard about heart are bypass operation, mitral valve problem, etc but we are not so familiar with all sort of that problems. To know more about our heart, the structure inside, circulation of blood and more, you can watch this tour of our heart HERE.

Invitation to join Team Cringely to Moon and win the Google Lunar X Price

Anyone, ardent, clamour to explore lunar space. PM only confirm on behalf of Malaysian. Russian recognised (Dr. Sheikh) as cosmonaut. By strict definition, memang out”.

So, I put to you that when our Prime Minister made the announcement early in September, he has lied to all Malaysian.“Malaysia on Monday unveiled its first astronaut, a 34-year-old doctor who will blast off on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft and visit the International Space Station in September 2007.

Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor was the winner of a nationwide hunt which drew tens of thousands of hopefuls. Army dentist Faiz Khaleed, 26, was chosen as the back-up astronaut, or “angkasawan” as they are known in the Malay language.

“I pray to God that he will ensure the success of your mission and raise the profile of Malaysia in the international arena,” Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said at a ceremony to announce the winning candidates (more)”.

Prime Minister announced that Dr. Sheikh as first Malaysian Astronaut but he is not qualified to be consider as one. He is qualified as Cosmonaut and that is only after huge sum of money being agreed to the Russian.

So, Dr. Sheikh as a space tourist should then be allowed to play congkat in space after all. He should be allowed to eat rendang and ketupat. He should be allowed to do what tourist did.
No wonder, Dr. Mazlan from Pusat Sains Negara has all sorts of weird and not so serious things that she wanted our Angkasawan to perform in the outer space. After all, we only spent few billion Ringgit of taxpayer money to purchase the Russian made aircraft so we can send someone to tour the space.

Bravo, that is truly Malaysia Boleh!

Ferritin proteins yield ultrathin computer memory

An idea to construct ultrathin computer memory was successfully develop by Researchers from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology. From this invention, a series of manga and anime television programs -like Detective Conan which very popular at Japan, Malaysia are not a fiction anymore. It then will develop to ultrathin computer that, if coupled with ultrathin displays, could one day be used in devices like the high-tech eyeglasses that appear in Detective Conan. According to team leader and electronics engineering professor Yukiharu Uraoka, it also can be applied into clothing, but I do not so sure how its can work.

In this new method, ferritin containing metal molecules is applied to a substrate and allowed to self-assemble into a high-density, ordered arrangement. The ferritin is then irradiated with UV light, which completely destroys the protein and leaves behind tiny metal deposits on the substrate. In this way, the researchers bypassed the need for high-temperature processing, allowing for the creation of ultrathin memory chips that measure less than 1 micron in thickness.

Source : pinktentacle

Japan develop next-generation network.

A research group in Japan will develop optical technology that will replace the Internet Protocol as the global standard in communications, a report said Sunday. It will aim to develop and commercialise in around 2015 a network that can transfer data at 10 gigabits per second, 10 times faster than the next-generation network due to be launched in Japan this year, the report said.

The optical network would allow as many as 100 billion devices to access it simultaneously and still enjoy extremely fast data-transfer speeds, the report said. Such features are important in the future when not only personal computers and mobile phones but also surveillance cameras, medical sensors and a range of other electronic devices are also likely to be connected to online networks.

This a good news to scientists exspecially in textiles industries, which aim to modernize textiles, embedded with a lot of devices and could monitor heart beat, temperature, etc.

Car run with water

Denny Klein and his water powered car - is it for real?

Several years ago in 1995, Stanley Meyer- an inventor from Ohio, claimed that he was succeed to formulate a water fuel cell, which was demonstrated on his dune buggy, powered by water alone. But, in 1998, Meyer was passed away, and many say he received threats from oil companies and was poisoned after refusing to abandon his technology. More details can read here.

Latest, Denny Klein also from Ohio, has introduced the world’s first water powered car. His technology run on a combination of water and gasoline, and he avow its possible to develop a system powered purely by water. His car can move for 100 miles using 4 ounces of water, without losing power.

Klein’s “Aquygen” is water or H2O broken down and turned into HHO gas – a process that scientists previously considered impossible to implement. A small device was demonstrated to emit a flame hotter than the surface of the Sun; A flame so intense it can burn a hole through charcoal and turn a brass ball to glowing liquid metal within seconds. While steel, lead, and other metals slice on contact, the tip of the welder remains only slightly warm to touch. Klein says that people don’t believe him, even though it’s a natural electrolysis process. It requires a greater amount of water than the amount of HHO gas produced, but the resulting gas combines the atomic power of hydrogen and the chemical stability of water. “No other gas will do this” –he says. A representative from Klein’s company said that the fuel production cost is estimated at around 70 cents per hour, with 1,500 liters of Aquygen produced in an hour.

The technology is still undergoing various government and independent tests, and company managers say it will be ready to hit the market in about 2 years. In response to the reports, many critics argued that the story is a complete hoax, saying that the energy required to convert H2O to HHO is greater than that provided by burning Aquygen. Others have raised concerns about the long term impact of such an energy source on the car engine.

Hopefully in next two years, water or 'Aquygen' will be ready to used as f'uel' globally and nobody will die anymore to complete this research.

Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor-Astronaut or spaceflight participant?

The Expedition 16 crew members pose for a portrait at the Johnson Space Center. Why NASA call him as spaceflight participant, and at Malaysia, in newspapers or on our mainstream television stations are busy to show an advertisement about we will have an astronaut in next two weeks (assumed our first astronaut will launch on October 10). The truth, its only like a present from Russian company to rejoice of 18 fighter jets, Sukhoi 30-MKM sold to Government of Malaysia, estimated around RM3.4 bilion. Everyone have an oppurtunity to travel to space, if you have a lot of money and good health, physical and mental, at a tag prices of AS 20 millions. A few person were celebrated as spaceflight participants are Dennis Tito ,Mark Shuttleworth , Greg Olsen and Anousheh Ansari.

Anyway, we could wish all the best to our first astronaut, the first citizen of Malaysian who will landing on ISS and hopefully come to earth in full motivations and could draw a new history in next decades, success to launch our own astronout with MAS spaceship to ISS.

As reference, China was successfully sent a man into the first time in 2003, plans to launch its own moon probe before the end of the year, followed by India in the first half of 2008. Japan kick-started the Asian lunar race on September 14, when it successfully launch its first lunar orbiter. While China and India have raised the possibility of a manned lunar mission within the next decade.

Generate power like photosynthesis

There is another amazing invention which could produced 'fuel' from water, a little bit different with what we had mentioned before in this weblog, saltwater to 'fuel'. In this technology, Martin Demuth (researcher at Max Planck Institute for Bioinorganic Chemistry in Mülheim an der Ruhr) has proposed a class of semiconductors, made of titanium disilicide (TiSi2), which can split water into hydrogen and oxygen and then stores the gases produced. The concept is simple, put water on semiconductor, then beam its directly to solar energy (photon). The hydrogen gases stored thus can be used as a 'fuel'.

More details, click here.

A new look at proton (atom)

Figure 1: The HERMES experiment (HERA measurement of spin).
