The Mosaic Challenge Group Lives!

Guess What. The Mosaic Challenge Group lives!

Sadly, we've stopped using Flickr for the group, because there just weren't many people displaying their work there, and now we're using Facebook. However, there are a lot of nice features on Facebook, so it's been very positive.

You can find the group here. Mosaic Challenge - Facebook

Currently we're all voting for our favorite "Fantasy Wonderland" pieces, found here: Fantasy Wonderland Photo Album

Here's a look at the entries we have so far for Challenge #65 - South of the Border

Challenge #34 Announced - "Mandalas"

2010-02-09T10:16:00.002-06:00

Hi Everyone,

Sendrine - winner of the "Winter" Challenge - has picked a new challenge for us, "Mandala": Any subject, any size, any material.

This challenge will start today - February 9 - and end April 30, 2010.

As always, if you have a mandala in process at this time, you're welcome to complete and enter it. But please do not enter pieces that are already complete.

I did a few searches on mandalas to answer some questions I had. First, here is a google image search of mandalas.

And here is Wikipedia's conversation about it.
If you read down a ways in the Wikipedia article, you'll see a discussion of how the mandala is used in different religions. It was interesting to see that it's present in religions aside from just Buddhism and Hinduism.

I also found a nice, simple description of a mandala: "The Mandala acts as a support for anyone in meditation. The Mandala itself is often illustrated as a palace with four gates, facing the four corners of the Earth. It is a symbol that represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the structure of life itself."

Or.....you can just consider it a pretty circular design. :-)

2010-01-01T13:37:00.001-06:00

Hi Everyone, and Happy New Year!

It's time to vote for your three favorite Tempered Glass entries. We had 19 all together, which really impresses me. This is such a busy time of year, and a bunch of you still managed to get pieces completed.

The definition of this challenge was this: "Tempered Glass 2D, 3D (any D ). If a person can not find or has any TG then Clear or transparent glass could be substituted."

Please vote by sending me a FlickrMail or regular mail at millimomo@gmail.com) with the numbers and artists' names of your three favorite pieces. You may vote through the end of the day, January 7, 2010. Go here to see more detail and get numbers and names.

The top three favorites will receive gift certificates from Tammy at Glass Tile of Oklahoma.

As always, feel free to email me or add to the discussion if you have any questions.

Enjoy!
