Stay Tuned

2012-10-20T00:10:00.001-04:00

Over the next few weeks I'll be reviving this blog. Once it's off the slab, it will be filled with inspirations, aspirations, recent projects, cool links, free events, visual references, tutorials, and rants. Pretty much, anything that catches my fancy.

17 again

2011-05-24T23:27:00.003-04:00

How do you learn? I'm really curious. I personally love to jump into something without reservation and then after experimentation, learn the rules or basics. I'm literally 17 again. Everything is new and exciting!

It's over!

2011-01-11T17:05:00.002-05:00

The decade that exulted mediocrity is finally over! It's a new year and I'm filled with hope. I have some secret resolutions that I'll soon surprise you with.

I like Marian Bantjes

Cool video speech from Graphic Designer, Marian Bantjes.

Finally

A project that made me come to terms with why I like robots so much. More on the way!

Things have been really busy lately. Along with getting a volunteer curator position at one of the coolest places on Earth (the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art,) I have two other internships with magazines. Since these don't pay, I have to get another job as well. What else? I've gone to events at the Art Directors Club and the AIGA, so have plenty to share on new artists I've discovered and interesting lectures I've sat through. Also, a few projects/sketches to share, cool links I've found, and blah blah blah... oh and pictures too! That's it for now.

Cracks me up every time

2010-04-27T21:42:00.002-04:00

My friend Luisa posted this recently. Would you believe (working retail) that I have had to work with customers like this?

2010-04-25T23:38:00.000-04:00

Last month I went to see Greg Brunkalla speak at the Apple store in Soho (NYC.) He talked about the (above) project which involved a hand made/painted zoetrope. He said that the trend for fashion companies is to step away from doing runways and move toward more distinctive/engaging ways of showcasing their new lines. Temperley's spring line happened to be circus themed, so the concept was to have models performing circus acts in the season's clothes played on a zoetrope in public. The individual stills (from the sequences) were used in Temperley's advertising. Apparently, motion graphics have gotten so fine in quality that hi res stills can be used at large sizes as would a normal photo. He also mentioned that most of today's "live action" music videos are done for free.

I hate infomercials but

I love those funny dramatizations where the people can't get the simplest tasks right. Someone out there is mind-linked with me and has made this funny montage of incompetence. Enjoy!

Long time no type

2010-04-20T18:31:00.003-04:00

I've been trying this start-five-posts-at-the-same-time-thing that hasn't been working out so well. I start 'em, but I'm not ending them. By this weekend I hope to have some cool stuff up. They'll possibly include events attended, lessons learned, and fun projects. In the mean time, I just became aware that Jessica Hische (of Daily Drop Cap, award show, and top design magazines fame) will be speaking at my college tomorrow. I'll be sure to share any details. Below are some links to her stuff.

Hey babe, can you believe we've made a year?

2010-02-17T17:36:00.001-05:00

I know its hard to believe, but it's true! I have always had a love/hate relationship with the internet, so keeping a BLOG for this long is amazing for me. I know that there are at times, weeks that go by with no posts, but I still return. If you had asked me to type up a blog over a year ago, I would have said no. Up until that point, all the blogs I had ever encountered were self-righteous, pointless, poorly written, self-centered, or slanderous. I figured, why bitch about people my potential blog readers wouldn't even know. Then IT happened. I found websites and blogs created by individuals who took the "Information Age" seriously. They posted knowledge! My mouth has been hanging open ever since. To those dedicated bloggers and link posters, I say thank you.

Please receive my meager offering of traced 1960's space women as thanks. Happy Anniversary,

This is a documentary my friend Damian turned me on to. It is about psycho analysis' affect on consumerism and the "Western world." I found it interesting and I thought I would share.

*The last video in this post may not line up well with the others. The coinciding video has been accused of breaking copyright and now has no sound. I had to replace it with someone else's posting, so bear that in mind.

sketches & bizarre doodles (before the semester's start)

2010-01-04T07:20:00.001-05:00

Don't ask me about some of these. I couldn't tell you.

That Dino thing (obviously) used no reference.

The list in the above sheet represents the first and (so far) only assignment given to me from my brother's Monster Drawing School. I was to list creatures that were either ugly or feared.

I need to do all the drawing lessons over again because my artist's memory isn't the best.

This is the packaging for that previous project I posted earlier. If you don't know what I'm talking about, click on the "kept chocolate" tag below.

Mmmmmm. Cookie flavored chocolate.

Happy New Year

MY BLOG RESOLUTIONS

1 I will put one space after punctuation instead of two.

2 I will post more sketches.

it's time for more FINDINGS OF THE WEB.

Looking for some drawing inspiration? Look no further than the sexy people blog.

Devoted to the perfect portrait, there is no shortage of bad hair, goths posing with Santa, ugly sweaters and interesting facial proportions.

And lastly, if you need shoe references I suggest going to The Piperlime. You can see and save a shoe from several different angles and they have hundreds of shoes to choose from. I suggest the "larger view"

Our product is so "you"

2009-12-22T21:05:00.005-05:00

As boomers get older, there seems to be a push to make "generation y" the new "ME generation."

Thanks guys. Without all your products, I wouldn't know how to express myself. I might have to turn to things other than mayo for my rebellion.

Today

2009-10-27T22:49:00.003-04:00

Graphic Design pro, Anissa Smith, came to my school to speak to us. Amongst lots of great advice on recession-proof aggressive self-marketing and networking, she also had this to say. In the mean time, when you don't have a large amount of jobs coming your way, create projects for yourself. I know, I know, that's not exactly a new idea, but she made a great point. With as much great and inspiring design there is out there (in the wild yonder), there is even MORE crappy "design." Her advice was to look around you, see the garbage, and redesign or fix it. This is a cross-platform idea. No matter what field of design or creation you are in, there are a lot of things that make your eyes hurt. Just thought I pass it along. Back to work

-Grace

P.S. Oh, she also mentioned that the government is considering a large bailout for the newspaper industry. Am I the only one this strikes as a bad idea?

I'm not into latex or anything but

2009-10-25T01:00:00.000-04:00

Have you noticed the appearance of latex in more and more live-action renditions of comic books? Well, it's not such a big leap. A lot of latex designers (past and present) seem to have been influenced by characters' costumes. I find not only this interesting, but also the kind of clothes they are now able to make now (scroll below.) For those who might not know, latex is a "no-sew" fabric. Pieces are just glued together. It is pretty cool to see some of the intricate (usually sewn) pieces designers are now making. The next few pictures (+plus links) are some of the least disturbing (sexually or otherwise) photos of costume-influenced or complicated (the way it's made) latex clothing I have found online.

a blog post about not having time to post

2009-10-25T00:49:00.003-04:00

Right now I'm taking 5 senior design classes and working 3 days a week. I haven't had time for anything else, let alone blogging or having some type of social life. I talked to my friend (and co-worker) Damian and he suggest I post more. He's right, so I'll write about my summer.

I feel like I squandered it. I started about 10 projects for myself, lost focus, and finished none. I would begin one and get scared that I was runing out of time for all the rest. Then I would start another and then do that again and again, until I really did run out of time. Lessoned learned! When the semester is over, I will start and complete one project at a time. *promise*

What else? Right now, most of the sketching I'm doing are of logos and icons. I'm not sure if they are of any particular interest to anyone. Speaking of, I looked down at the bottom of this page and saw the number of views. I don't know what I did, wrong or right, but thanks for looking?

There have been some interesting things I found online a little while ago, but I don't know when I'll get a chance to write about them. The next post I put up will be one I started months ago about the comic book industry's influence on latex clothing designers. AND there'll be pictures!

the stuff marketed to me= BORING
