Grustle TV founder D.Bail recently sat down with the talented T. Chynna Littlejohn who is the CEO and Filmmaker for GoldenGirl Filmworks Studios, a New Jersey based film company. Chynna is a Patterson native, who is very gifted in creating timeless, entertaining and relevant media content for a wide ranging audience. She is extremely knowledgeable about her field and is using her resources to do amazing things in the world of cinematography.

In this Grustle TV profile, we discuss some of the things she is working on at the moment as well as what motivated her to becoming one of the best in the business.

D.Bail: How were you inspired into becoming a film maker?

Chynna: Great question. I was inspired as a child watching Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Being amazed by the creativity of it. At the very end they would show the making of "Thriller" from behind the scenes and I would watch that. I was intrigued by all the hard work that went in to making that video. I wanted to know how they made that video and they showed me. That just sparked the film maker in me immediately. I just wanted to learn more and try it myself.

D.Bail: What are a few of the attributes one would need have in order to become successful in the film business?

Chynna: Determination and tough skin. You have to be able to take criticism good and bad. You have to be able to take rejection as well as - one minute they can tell you 'Yes' and and the next day or even the same day they can tell you 'No'. You definitely have to be determined and have tough skin.

D.Bail: How do you come up with the ideas for your projects?

Chynna: Music inspires me to write! Yes. Any kind. It doesn't have to be a specific genre or anything. Just hearing music inspires me to write.

If It Wasn't For Love Movie

D.Bail: Name one difficulty one might come across in your field and one a solution to keep grustlin' and progressing.

Chynna: Well as an African-American female filmmaker, this is a male dominated field so a lot of the women get pushed to the side. A lot of our projects never see the light of day. But I would say to anybody that is going to get in this business, especially a woman, do it yourself. Do not wait for anybody else to tell you -- because of technology today it's possible for anyone to make a film. If it's something your heart is telling you that you need to do and you love it -- don't wait for someone else to go out and do it. I used to send my scripts online -- submit them to all these contest, and they would never get in. I got tired of it, and said 'I'm going to film this myself'. Even with a director telling me, 'We are not going to be able to shoot your film', after working on two of his projects and waiting for him to tell me we can shoot mine -- I decided I had a feature film, I cut it in half and I made it work and I shot it. So I would say to any female, do not let anyone define or tell you how successful you are going to be in this business, if this is where your heart is. You cannot give up. You can't!

D.Bail: What projects are you currently working on and what can we look forward to from GoldenGirl Filmworks?

Chynna: We are working on "The Last Tenant" starring you, Shyheim, Nyt and Marshall. All these great people in this film! We are doing a web series, so I am currently working on episodes 2, 3, 4 and 5. I am also working on this short film that I wrote with Davey J. Morgan. It's called "A Cry For Freedom". It's a great short film and I really really want to do it! I will be calling you to be in that one. Davey actually did a couple of stage plays, and he knows my nephew and then they suggested that he and I hook up. I took one of his stage plays and turned it into a screenplay, which we're now going to turn into a film. I am excited to get started on that. That film is going to speak to a lot of people, it really hits home.

D.Bail: Here at GrustleTV.com and D.Bail Files we like to leave some encouraging words for our readers. Any last words and advice you can tell aspiring filmmakers?

Chynna: My last words to your readers would be to master your craft. Know what everyone's job is and make sure you can do it. That way you can relate to your actors, boom operator, gaffer, cinematographer, editor, producer, unit production manager, script supervisor, costume designer - even craft services. If you get drivers, all of that. Make sure you know everyone's job and you know how to do it by yourself. Of course director! (laughs) Writers too. Make sure you can do all that by yourself. because you never know when your on set what's going to happen. Be very flexible because it changes like the wind.

Happy New Year to you and yours! A day after the Rev. Martin Luther King holiday, I'm reminded that a dream comes with sacrifice and commitment. Nothing in life comes easy and as you get older sometimes dreams become harder to obtain. Giving up for me is not an option. Giving up for you shouldn't be either. Make adjustments and realign your goals to fit your current situation and believe that all things are possible. I had to put together a short reel highlighting some of my moments as a host over the past 8 years. This reel features R&B artist Amerie, Steele from the Brooklyn rap duo Smif & Wesson, Bad Boy Entertainment CEO and artist Diddy, female vocalist Dawn from Dirty Money and Danity Kane and G-Unit artist Lloyd Banks. The final portion of the reel is footage from me hosting the hit off-Broadway play 'Platanos & Collard Greens' from my Alma Mata New Jersey City University. It's 2013. Things have changed drastically in the world since I started this blog in 2008. The one thing that remains the same is my passion and love for what I do. "What's up good people? It's been a minute since my last post, but I'm still here. Sometimes in order to move better in your future, you have to take a look back at the past. While in my senior year of college, I had the opportunity to intern with Where Ya At? Video Productions through owner Mike Sisti, a veteran and well respected producer and videographer. I had appeared in a documentary for a classmate of mine named Chris Morton. It was about youth culture in America and I dropped my thoughts of what is was like growing up in an urban setting. He was impressed with my on-screen presence and dialog and said he may have an opportunity for me. He introduced me to Mike, who was looking for a new host, and my first day on the job with little preperation, I interviewed soul and funk artists Que & Malaika who had a new single 'P in the Funk' that featured the legendary musician George Clinton. I was nervous but got through it pretty well for a newcomer. Mike was pleased, hired me on the spot and my hosting career had begun. I hosted the weekly show from early 2004 up until June 2005. The show had the hottest videos out as well as live performances, interviews and was sponsored by clothing chain Against All Odds. I'm grateful for opportunities such as this one and for a while we had a top watched video show in prime time for Comcast Cable. Mike gave me a platform to shine and build my craft and I will always appreciate that! I had a chance to really network in the music business as well as interview some celebrity talent. Where Ya At? Video Show also led to my introduction to the Justos Mixtape Awards and the rest is history! Check me out in my early days representing with Where Ya At? Video Show. "I recently was blessed with the opportunity to interview a legendary R&B group, SOLO.(Eunique Mack, Darnell Chavis, Danielle Stokes, Bass: Robert Anderson)This is their first live interview in many years and we covered everything from the past, present and their bright future plans. SOLO debuted in 1995 with a new age classic soul sound that captivated millions around the globe. Discovered on a NYC street corner, the group was produced by one of R&B's greatest duos - Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. SOLO was praised for their authentic sound by fans and critics alike and scored two top 10 R&B hits on their debut self-titled album, "SOLO". After their record label dissolved and their second album was released in 1998 with little to no promotion, SOLO took a break from music to pursue other ventures. "Happy New Year to you and yours, I hope the first few weeks of 2011 has been great thus far. As usual my commitment to providing you quality entertainment will continue. The relaunch of the LLC - R Double N Ent has been in movement once more with the new web series 'GRUSTLE TV', I appreciate the few of you who have checked it out here and on Youtube. As I continue working on the DVD release as well as the musical soundtrack, my grind has continued to take me to extraordinary heights as I begin an acting career as well. Right now I have been auditioning for different roles so if anyone you know has a script I can read please let me know! I can play many different characters and I have voice talent as well. The '100 Miles N Grustlin' soundtrack will feature songs from New Jersey based hip hop artists E Skille, DZ, Barri Blakk, A Lots, Tyson and Jersei Raw as well as R&B Soul features from Gram and K.Bell. The Justos Mixtape Awards is back! The new website also been relaunched at THEJUSTOS.COM with the awards coming this October. There will be many events surrounding this 15th annual Mixtape Awards special. I am still working with legendary stations 107.5 WBLS & 1190 WLIB and I 'm hoping to use my talents with them in a more diverse way this year. Sometimes you have to create opportunities for yourself or create a lane where there isn't one. Radio has always been my first passion and I'm blessed to have the opportunity to reach people through it daily. Starting January 29th, I will be returning to New Jersey City University to teach Media Arts and Drama to a group of Pre College Students every weekend, God has been and always will be good. Even through my trials and tribulations I celebrate because I understand the struggle is a necessity to build my strength and character. I am still thankful!

Listen, one thing about me is I never lost the passion for what I do. I had an opportunity to interview Boston rapper Slaine, who is also part of super group La Coka Nostra. Real hip hop, agressive lyrics, beats and reality rap, or as I would say relatable rap. I love to hear different people stories of coming from nothing to something but some of todays extravagant lyrics and boasts I can't identify with it. I'm not even sure I want to. Money doesn't always equal happiness as cliche as it may sound. DJ Statik Selektah introduced my ears to Midwest emcee Freddie Gibbs. He's also associated with the likes of Termanology & Saigon two of the illest emcees out the east.His production is crazy! He was there to cosign someone he had a long history with - Slaine. Slaine talks about his upcoming debut album and the pressures associated with that. Slaine also had the opportunity to co star in the Ben Afflick moviem "The Town" which was #1 at some point. It's all about the GRUSTLE and these fellas know the real when it comes to traveling country to country and keeping the fans satisfied. They were humble and honest in their interview with me. My friend from college, Zilla decided to step into the ring to begin his new career of boxing. His slogan is "FEAR NO MAN" so when it came to the ring his thought process was just that. Lisa Sparxx, A LOTS and I traveled to Union City, New Jersey to support our long time friend. The Diamond Gloves Tournament is a competition for boxers from throughout the state. The fighters were competing in a six week tournament, which is the longest running tournament in New Jersey dating back to 1933. GRUSTLIN' is grind and hustling put together. Zilla works as a mentor and teacher to the youth of Jersey City as well as being a talented recording artist.When you overachieve more than two tasks on a consistant basis with no complaints, you are GRUSTLIN' for real! I actually interviewed Tony back in 2005 when his debut album was about to drop. I remember him being authentic and honest during our session and the second meeting didn't disappoint. We went on location to the G-Unit office and it was great experience. G-Unit embodies the spirit of what GRUSTLE TV is all about. I remember when 50 Cent lost his deal with Columbia and hit the streets with DJ Whoo Kid & G-Unit and dropped classic mixtape after mixtape until Eminem got a hold of one of the CD's and signed him immediately. I respect people that can and will do it on their own merit if need be. In each market, Nike and James will issue a call to action among youth to change their lives while improving their neighborhoods. Nike Basketball aims to engage and mobilize young men and women to serve their community through sport and create a positive change in their own backyards. In addition to this community effort, James will attend Nike-hosted basketball skills clinics and celebrations where residents can unwind and have fun with James. Participants will be able to play basketball, develop their basketball skills, and learn more about Nike’s new padded base layer called Nike Pro Combat and SPARQ Training (Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, Quickness), all in an interactive environment. - NIKE, Inc.

"There was a massive amount of free food and different booths set up designed to entertain and educate. There was a DJ mixing booth where kids could learn to cut and scratch, a sneaker cleaning booth where you could get your kicks freshened up, barbershop booths offering free haircuts, NIKE booth with free shirts, headbands and basketballs and so much more. There was a huge makeshift basketball court split into two halves where local basketball teams dueled it out. There was a cameo appearance by Carmelo Anthony and his street ball squad and hundreds of DC natives that came out for support and a good time. I was impressed on how much Nike and LeBron went all out to ensure the community was going to have a great time free of charge. These types of events inspire people and it definitely was a positive unforgettable experience." - D.BAIL

“Hello people, we are 4 months into 2010 and the year has been moving fast. I want to publicly thank all the visitors to my site as of late, I humbly appreciate your support. I am happy to still continue my commitment with the young people working for a great non-for profit agency here in New Jersey. To my youth PLEASE don’t shortchange yourself when it comes to education or let people dictate who you are and who you will become. Don’t give people the POWER to make you feel inferior or make a mistake in anger that could affect the rest of your life. Today is today. Although it may be rough RIGHT NOW, remember there is a season for everything. So although this week may be one of the worst you ever had with no goodness in sight just remember THAT TOO SHALL PAST. We may have to take a rough ride to reach our destination but as long as we reach it—it's all good. The roughness we experience on the way will just help us appreciate it more and help the next person get through their bumps and bruises. Not to judge anyone specifically but it seems we have become a very selfish society over the years. If it’s not about us we don’t care. THIS will be the downfall of us because it truly does “take a village to raise a child” Phrases like “do unto others as you want done unto you” could never be outdated or irrelevant. When I say US I mean the human race, not just black, brown & white. WE ALL must help one another or we will destroy each other. As an individual you may not have any control over others, but what can YOU or I do to make the world a better place? " As 2009 draws to close, I have many thoughts on my mind about the state of the entertainment business and the state of the world in general. I'll stick to the first though because the latter would take up a few pages. I have had great opportunties this year interviewing the likes of Illa J, N'Dambi, Pretty Ricky, Angie Stone and many others. I truly love hosting and hopefully my platform in 2010 will be something well recoginized and supported. I had the opportunity to work with Nike this summer for the "More Than A Game" super event in Washington DC with LeBron James. Thanks to AR and Pub City for that. In this business, there are so many pitfalls and negative people and situtaions that occur. Yes I have come across my share of them but I've also been blessed to be around folks who care about the quality of work they are involved in as well as going hard for their dreams and not making any excuses. Kudos to them! In 2010 I look forward to my continued community service with the youth, Justo's Mixtape Awards, my partnerships with my brothers in music and my continued climb with the companies I work for. Hopefully I can get my long awaited DVD out as well. There is new footage I'm constantly getting and I just want to make sure it looks professional and is entertaining for my audience as well. Greatness takes time! I appreciate the continued love and inspiration I get from everyone out there. In the words of the late great Bruce Lee,“I am learning to understand rather than immediately judge or to be judged. I cannot blindly follow the crowd and accept their approach. I will not allow myself to indulge in the usual manipulating game of role creation. Fortunately for me, my self-knowledge has transcended that and I have come to understand that life is best to be lived and not to be conceptualized. I am happy because I am growing daily and I am honestly not knowing where the limit lies. To be certain, every day there can be a revelation or a new discovery. "Whats good world? I just came back from a excellent weekend at the WBLS/WLIB Circle of Sisters Expo. You can check out all the great moments at circleofsisters.com. Now working for 107.5 WBLS has been a great experience thus far. I have a love for R&B music as much as I do for hip hop. When I had the opportunity to interview R&B vet Joe a few years back it was a great experience being that I liked most of Joe's music. He sings and writes to women in a way I would talk to them! "Things your man won't do", was one of the first songs I heard from Joe back in my teenage years and that was a serious track! I loved the movie it was featured on 'Don't Be A Menace to South Central while drinking Your Juice in the Hood.' Joe and I met up at Jive Records in 2007 for a candid talk on his new music, working with younger artist, and being a successful business man outside of music. This was one of his last interviews before he left Jive Records. He was very candid and cool. Joe also has a new album titled 'Signature' out now." - D.BAIL

"Whats up people? I am happy to see the traffic picking up a bit more on my little blog, I need to start posting more and I promise to do that. Thanks to everyone who took time out their day to check me out. The industry is a crazy place sometimes. I just finished teaching the summer session for the Pre College Program with my Media Arts Class and I told them this business is not always what it is cracked up to be. I have come across the good and sometimes the bad when dealing with certain individuals. Don't let the bright lights, jewelery, money and fast cars distract you from what your mission is. This brother I'm introducing is a testament to that. He goes by the name DZ "Divine Zeal" and we have been friends for over 10 years. His new mixtape "Spirtual Warfare Chapter 1" is available for free download on his website JESUSPEACEMUSIC.COM and is hosted by yours truly D.BAIL! DZ is anointed by God and has a message for all of us struggling with our day to day problems. Trust me you have never heard anything like this. Some of the music we hear today promotes the same negative things day in and day out and as an adult, I don't get influenced by that at all. But what about our youth? How many positive influences are they subjected to in the entertainment biz? Not trying to be too preachy but being that I work in both fields, education & entertainment I have to acknowledge both and also create ways to make it better. So I present to you DZ! As in addition to being an emcee, DZ and his older brother run an outreach program called Jesus Peace Outreach. They hit the streets of Plainfield, Newark, Patterson and Irvington to organize and sponsor Basketball Tournaments and many other projects that help keep the kids off the streets. Most often kids get into trouble because of the lack of activities and resources in their neighborhood. This is so important because this generation will be taking care of us when we are old and grey! We must do our part and water the seeds so they can grow!
