The underwater rugby team, Adelaide White Pointers, recently sent some players to compete in Perth in the UWR National Championships 2017. 

The event took place over three days (26 to 28 May) with nine teams from around Australia competing. Divers, underwater rugby players, and friends came along, and drank hot chocolates and coffee while waiting for others to arrive. The weather was overcast and windy, not particularly warm nor inviting, and four chickened out immedately.

A full boat of keen divers headed out on Saturday for some of the more deeper sites around Adelaide. The Stanvac Barges, The Saurian and 2 of the coal loading barges just off the Port Stanvac Oil Refinery were scuttled in 1954, and at 28m are some of the great deeper wrecks. Plenty of large nudis, and spider crabs spotted around as well as some playful dolphins during our surface interval.

First dive was the Saurian - the largest (50 m long) of the three vessels known collectively as the Port Stanvac Barges. Well, we think it was the Saurian - it could have been the barge nearest to it. Steven Saffi and I headed down the anchor line into the clear blue, which gave way to 15 m viz on the bottom at 27 m. sun was setting on a mill-pond flat sea when we got to West Beach ramp and it
was dark as we left the marina in great conditions that allowed Stargazer to
get cracking at just over 60kph. Just 9 minutes later we were at Seacliff Reef.

Five AUSC divers teamed up with FUUC for a fantastic day out at the Ex-HMAS Hobart with absolutely perfect conditions. Divers Steven Saffi, Paula Black, and David Warren planned on taking to the waters, while Ralph Kinasz and Molly McEwin rocked up with BBQ and BBQ supplies in hand, and gumboots and ugg boots to keep warm.
