I love a brightly colored ceiling; for the glow, for how it really highlight where the planes of a room meet and for its quirkiness. If we had flat high ceilings, I would definitely do this!

I treat my business like an art practice, which may not be the most business savvy but it is the most comfortable for me. I let the work evolve and shift as I need to explore something new. New mediums, or new message, new aesthetic but I believe that its all linked.

Its taken me a long time to figure out how to promote who I am as an artist and what I make...I'm still trying to figure it out. Once again, I have updated my website and I feel like it reflects what going on in my mind much better (than before) and presents what I do in a much clearer manner.
I have also updated my shop, and I'm not sure the front page is layout how I want it. On one of my computers the front page image is centered and on my other computer it is not, I'm thinking optimistically right now and thinking that it is center :)

Things have shifted for me of lately, I resigned from my full time job and now I am consulting which is lovely. I am enjoying the additional personal time and the new role/challenge. Other projects have evolved as well, like Little Eero.

I started Little Eero last summer because I love vintage wear, I love working, touching and restoring fabric. Wrestling with a garment to revert it back to its original beauty. When we were buying our home in the fall of 2011 and the stress consumed me I had that moment to step away from it all and though I love vintage clothes, I needed to have a deeper connection with these things I was selling.

So I have started up knitting again, oh boy... does this fulfill my love for fabric. This is what I did when I first graduated from grad school and before I went into the non profit sector. I had the pleasure of working for Kate O'Connor who as the time had her own company. The knits we were making were timeless and so beautiful. Through working for her I was able to enhance my knitting skills by learning how to knit on a old Brothers knitting machine.

Over the past 5 months I have been teaching myself all sorts of things on the machine, (back in 2002 YouTube did not have the presence it does today) and I have been able to greatly improve my skill set. I pattern directly on the knitting loom so wiggle room is close to none when designing a garment.

On a side note, my husband and I finished designing my new name logo, I love it!

My amazing father built this beautiful daybed (sans mattress) for our back patio. As we gear up for summer, our fantasy of swimming and relaxing outside in the shade to beat the heat is almost complete. I can not wait to see what it looks like with the mattress and two cuddly kids.

Our family is so excited about our garden teepee. So without further ado...garden teepee tutorial #2.

Material:

stone (I used slate)
hammer
screw driver
glasses (you don't want something to fly in your eyes when you are pounding away at stone)
gloves
a creeping ground cover (I used baby tears)
soil

STEP 1:

Buy enough stone to cover the circular ground area of your teepee. I bought 16 medium size pieces of slate. Thick enough that when they are stepped upon they won't break. I used slate because it is smooth to touch and very beautiful. Sand stone is less money but it is not as smooth to touch and since we will be sitting on the stone I figured I should go with the one that actually feels good.

STEP 2:

Break the stone with a hammer and screwdriver to make pieces smaller and more interesting. Don't forget to work with gloves and glasses, they will protect your hands and eyes during the smashing process. This is an easy and fun step so don't be afraid.

STEP 3:

Lay out the stones in the ground, make certain that the soil underneath is leveled (if the stones are wobbly its not leveled). Leave room in-between the stones and space them to fill the entire ground area of the teepee.

STEP 4:

Once stones are firmly placed into soil , break up your ground cover and place in-between the stones. I spaced my ground cover between 2-6 inches apart...it depends on your ground cover and how quickly you want it to fill.

STEP 5:

Once ground cover is placed in-between stones, start to pack in soil just as you typically would. Make certain that your ground cover is firmly set in the soil and do not be afraid to make a mess. The most important thing is that both ground cover and stones are very secure. This will only happen if you use plenty of soil.

STEP 6:
After all is in place, give your ground cover a good soak, when you are doing this go ahead and wash away the lose soil.

ahhhhh, nice and tidy...

Its up and ready to be loved. This is an older image, now the vines are in and starting to grow. As the weather gets warmer the teepee will become a place for fun and shade. A perfect little shelter for 2 little girls!
