Poonam Pandey says; We are all born naked!

It seems that at times, she regrets not having the life of a normal 20-year-old, but the overnight transition from model to mini celebrity almost makes up for it. Seven months ago, Poonam Pandey entered the world of modelling as a teenager, but an 'innocuous' statement turned her into a national sensation – she promised to strip if India won the World Cup. Several interviews, threat calls, arrest warrants and Bollywood offers later, Poonam is ready to face the naysayers with a resolve to strip if the BCCI permits her to .

She tells us that the BCCI rejected her offer to strip for the team, and she doesn't want to commit any crime by doing something she hasn't got permission for. She says, "I stand by my commitment. I am now requesting the media to ask the BCCI to give me permission."

She explains, "I'm just clearing everyone's doubts that they shouldn't take my statement in a wrong way. I don't mind the attention, and I don't regret my statement. I was happy about the team's performance." "Support me please?" she requests.

But while she tries to fulfil her promise, she is also preparing to compete in the reality show "Khatron Ke Khiladi". Even though she got various offers, including Bollywood item numbers, she isn't interested. Says Poonam, "So many offers have come, but at present, I'm only focusing on KKK. People approached me with offers for movies, item numbers, and magazine interviews, but I am not keen. Of course, my plan eventually is to work in Bollywood. Let's see how it all works out."

Of course, post the offer from the channel for the show, her statement is being termed a publicity stunt, but Poonam vehemently denies the allegation. She says, "I don't know why people are thinking this is a publicity stunt. That was a statement for team India, and it's been made into such a big issue. People do treat me differently at times but I'm okay with everything," she states confidently.

Things may be settling down now, but her parents were not happy with her statement initially. Her businessman father and mother (who is a housewife), and her brother, who is two years older than her, were quite upset. She reveals, "In the beginning they were upset. Now they're okay. They first asked me how I could say something like that. But then I explained it to them. I told them how this was not incorrect; don't interpret it as being naked and vulgar. You were born naked. So, don't take this in a cheap way. Now everything is fine between us," she insists.

However, she did face tough times right after India won the match. Says Poonam, "So many arrest warrants were announced, and being 20 and facing so many of these problems alone was very tough. I kept thinking – this is so crazy. These people are creating such a big issue. When India won, I was the happiest female on earth. I was dancing in front of the TV. But, I was not with my parents, and was alone, and I was upset. I was locked – trapped my house, I had to be underground. Soon after, I had an unexpected kidney stone problem."

But she changes the topic and we switched back to the topic of the reality show. Ask her what she'd do if she wins, and Poonam quips, "Come on, if I say something, people file court cases. So, it's better to keep my mouth shut. There's a surprise I have planned, if I win. Right now, it's only about work and no holidays. I enjoy my work like I would enjoy a holiday."

Harbajan to get Marry Geeta Basra

Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh and actress Geeta Basra have been going strong for the last couple of years, despite intermittent stories of them splitting.

According to the industry buzz, the two have been on the verge of getting married as well. However, when Mumbai Mirror spotted the couple visiting an astrologer on Monday, we wondered whether the rumours about a wedding were true, after all.

The cricketer and his girl visited an astrologer in MHADA, Andheri on Monday. An eyewitness revealed, "Geeta and Harbhajan both were spotted visiting a well known pandit in the locality on Monday afternoon.

Both came separately in their respective cars but went in to see the pandit together. After more than an hour they got down and left together in Harbhajan's car."

"Harbhajan and Geeta are in a relationship for a few years now. Marriage is on the back of their minds but they seem to be waiting for the right mahurat. Both of them met the pandit to figure out the perfect date and year for them to settle down with each other.

Harbhajan, in fact, took out time from his IPL matches and practice sessions to meet the pandit. They wanted to finalise a good date and also match their horoscopes," said a source.

Last year, Geeta attended Harbhajan's sister's wedding. And of course, she got to meet the parents there. Though friends of the actress predicted marriage by the end of this year, the couple chose to deny.

"Please don't ask me about my marriage. I am not getting married," said Geeta, when contacted. So, we decided to ask her about the visit the pandit visit. "I had gone there for my personal work," came the answer. With Bhajji? "There is nothing that you are thinking of! If I am getting married I would be booking venues and doing all kind of preparations," explained the dusky actress.

Sila Sahin, a 25-year-old Turkish German living in Berlin, had until now been regarded as a glowing example of how a modern Muslim girl should behave in a multicultural society.

A successful actress starring in German television soap opera Good Times, Bad Times, she pleased her many fans and made her Turkish family proud.

But her latest move has shocked some of those fans, and enraged those closest to her.

Lokpal Bill: Allahabad HC issues notice to Attorney General

On a petition by advocate Asok Pande and social activist Nutan Thakur, the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad high court has issued notice to the Attorney General to appear before the court and explain how and why drafting committee for the Lokpal bill was formed.

The bench comprising chief justice of the high court FI Rebelio and justice DK Arora also took notice of a newspaper article which talked about land obtained by Shanti Bhushan and his son Jayant Bhushan by the UP government but since they were not made opposite parties in the petition, the court did not pursue the matter.

However, the Bench framed a few questions on the formation of the Lokpal drafting committee -- "Why was this measure taken when it is not provided in the constitution? Was there any pressure and is the act going to curtail the rights of private individuals as some extra-constitutional body is now trying to represent them?"

The court has given three weeks time to file the reply and has fixed May 16 as the next date of hearing.

The writ petition challenges the extra-ordinary notification issued by the union ministry for law and justice on April 08, 2011 through which the government has constituted a Joint Committee to draft the Lokpal Bill.

In the petition, petitioners Pande and Dr Thakur said that the central and state governments and various courts have always taken the view that making of a law, including not to make it, is the complete domain of the legislature.

Pande and Thakur have claimed in the petition that the formation of the drafting committee seemed to be beyond law. "The central government started a completely new process by granting extra-constitutional authority to Anna Hazare to nominate a few persons as his nominees for the so-called Joint Drafting committee," the petition said.

The petitioners also questioned the use of the words 'five nominees of Shri Anna Hazare (including himself)' in the notification.

Brendon McCullum made a severe dent into the below-par D/L-adjusted target set by Chennai Super Kings, and handy contributions from Parthiv Patel and Brad Hodge then gave Kochi Tuskers their second win in a row. It was the impact of the clean hitting from McCullum that shook Chennai up, and Parthiv and Hodge took Kochi home with some smart cricket.

It was in compete contrast to how almost every Chennai batsman, bar M Vijay, struggled to find timing on a pitch that seemed to have retained some moisture. The Kochi bowlers used the track well, getting the ball to grip, but it was the ground fielding that stifled Chennai despite the fact the inside edges regularly found the boundary and mis-hits hardly ever reached the deep fielders.
McCullum then made batting looked ridiculously easy. Statements aren't made more emphatically than the way he treated Albie Morkel like a spinner at the start of the chase. He charged straight at Morkel in the first over and deposited him into the sightscreen. In Morkel's second, he went over cow corner. Disdain was getting defined. Doug Bollinger got a sample too when he did as much as pitch short of a length.

Parthiv was to make the equation simpler with a slog-swept six off Jakati, but he too mis-hit a pull to leave 26 to get off the last four overs.

Hodge and Ravindra Jadeja made sure there no jitters in the home stretch. Chennai's innings, though, never escaped regular and mild jitters. It rained almost throughout the first nine overs, play was interrupted for more than an hour after that due to a heavy shower, and Chennai remained sluggish throughout. Except for a flowing 28 off 18 from Vijay, none of the Chennai batsmen adjusted well to the pace of the pitch. Even Suresh Raina's half-century, and credit must go to him for getting that many on such a day, featured as many edges and mis-hits as clean shots.
Others had nothing to show for their efforts. Early movement consumed Michael Hussey, Vijay's first loose shot accounted for his wicket, and desperation at not being able to hit freely took care of S Badrinath. The decisive moment came when MS Dhoni and Raina came together. RP Singh, Hussey's wicket to his name already, welcomed the India captain with an over full of yorkers and a bouncer, conceding just two; that left Chennai on 109 for 3 after 15. In that spell of play, heave after heave followed, pad after pad was hit, and not even a 14-run final over threatened Kochi.

CVs of senior Wipro execs flood market

A change in regime is always an unsettling time for the troops. Wipro, which last quarter named a new CEO and drastically altered the way it does business, is seeing a huge churn among its senior staff. By one reckoning, almost a fifth of its 500 senior executives (in the 15 to 20-year experience category) have either quit or are looking for new jobs.

According to head-hunting and recruitment agencies, dozens of vertical/domain and business heads of Wipro have started floating their resumes to explore options outside the company.

A head-hunting firm in the city has received 52 job applications from Wipro employees in the 8-20 years of experience range in the last a month. Another recruitment firm has received 18 applications from senior Wipro execs with 8-15 years of work experience while yet another recruiter said his firm has received six exploratory calls from senior Wipro professionals in the last one week.

Some 40 people, including verticals/business unit heads and general manager, have already quit the company in the past few weeks. That means, nearly 100 of the company's 500 senior execs have either quit or are looking at newer pastures. When contacted, a Wipro spokesperson declined to comment.

"There is an element of uncertainty and fear. Some pressure is mounting internally and heads are asked to show the money," said a leading IT recruiter in the city who has spoken to over a dozen senior Wipro execs recently.

The new CEO, T K Kurien, is currently conducting an internal review of the performance, roles and responsibilities of delivery heads, vertical heads and business units heads. Also Azim Premji, company chairman, has given Kurien is a "fixed mandate", which has left him with no flexibility", said a source.

The ongoing exercise means some executives getting bigger responsibilities, while for others it means moving to new roles and changing profiles. A third category of people would be asked to change or move out.

"So in today's context, when the company is under huge performance pressure, the thrust is not just on quality and timely delivery, but also on revenues and P&L," said an internal source.

Previously, Wipro used to prepare P&Ls for verticals, service lines as well as geographies, while now only verticals will be responsible for P&Ls. Vertical heads will now run their businesses as CEOs of strategic business units (SBUs) with full responsibility for their own profit and loss account. The company is attempting to create a leaner organization focused on fewer strategic bets. "This was done because the previous system increased complexity in decision-making and diluted responsibility and accountability," said the source.

"Such an organizational churn has never happened at Wipro before. Under the restructuring, goals are set so high, space is different and speed has increased. All these indicate times of change at Wipro. The company is looking at unleashing the optimum potential of every senior executive and derive additional value for clients. In the next six months, the DNA of Wipro is going to look very different," said the source.

Wipro, whose recent numbers have failed to enthuse the street and also its chairman by the looks of it, is attempting to create a sleek organization that can keep rivals like Cognizant and HCL at bay. Analysts expect that if Wipro and Cognizant maintain their current rates of growth, the latter will overtake Wipro in a few quarters to emerge the third largest IT firm by revenue. The current overhaul is to avoid that possibility.

Wipro has opened up a direct email communication link between Kurien and employees to facilitate interaction. Also, despite concerns of a massive exodus at the very top, Wipro is expected to report a sequential decline in attrition by 0.5-1% for the January-March quarter.

This time the Son shouted at his Father, “Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times ‘IT IS A CROW’. Are you not able to understand this?”

A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary: - “Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel

irritated. I rather felt affection for my innocent child”.

While the little child asked him 23 times “What is this”, the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed.

When your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to thema gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and kind to

them.

Don't protect corrupt judges

Amid serious concern over corruption in the judiciary, Chief Justice of India SH Kapadia on Saturday asked politicians not to protect corrupt judges. And he advised judges to avoid socialising with lawyers, litigants and politicians. “We need a clean man in black robe to uphold the independence and integrity of the judiciary,” the CJI said at the fifth MC Setalvad memorial lecture.

“Internal interference from a high-ranking judge which, if resisted, leads to a lower-ranking judge being transferred or denied promotion also needs to be deprecated. Similarly, political protection should not be given to corrupt judges,” Kapadia said.

The only attempt to remove a judge in the last 60 years failed in 1993 when the ruling Congress refused to back the motion to impeach justice V Ramaswamy of the Supreme Court.

The strong remarks of the CJI, known to be a man of few words, come at a time when Sikkim high court chief justice PD Dinakaran and Calcutta high court’s justice Soumitra Sen are facing impeachment proceedings, in which the political class will finally decide their fate.

Advising self-restraint, Kapadia said: “A judge must choose to be a little aloof and isolated from the community at large.”

“He should not be in contact with lawyers, individuals or political parties, their leaders or ministers, unless on purely social occasions,” CJI Kapadia said, adding that judges should not accept any type of patronage. “Judges must keep the part of impartial, objective, fearless and independent justice alive."

The CJI said he, personally, avoided socializing, even preferring not to take membership at any golf club as it would mean mingling with advocates, politicians and the like.

Calling himself "an eternal optimist", Kapadia said: "I can see that in future things are going to improve as far as integrity and credibility of the Supreme Court is concerned."

Baloons

There was a man who made living selling balloons at a fair. He had all colors of balloons, including red, yellow, blue and green.Whenever business was slow, he would release a helium-filled balloon into the air and when the children saw it go up, they all wanted to buy one. They would come up to him, buy a balloon and his sales would go up again. He continued this process all day.

One day, he felt someone tugging at his jacket. He turnedaround and saw a little boy who asked, “If you release a black balloon, would that also fly? “Moved by the boy’s concern, the man replied with empathy, “Son, it is not the colors of the balloon,it is inside that makes it go up.”

The same thing applies to our lives.The thing inside of us that makes us go up is our attitude.It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking,which more than anything else, will determine its outcome.

A long time ago, there was a huge mango tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it everyday. He climbed to thetree top, ate the mangoes, took a nap under the shadow.Heloved the tree and the tree loved to play with him.

Time went by...

The little boy grew up, and he no longer played around the tree everyday. One day, the boy came back to the tree with a sad look on his face.

“Come and play with me,” the tree asked the boy.

“I am no longer a kid, I don’t play around trees anymore.”

The boy replied, “I want toys. I need money to buy them.”

“Sorry, I don’t have money...but you can pick all my mangoes and sell them so you will have money.”

The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the mangoes on the tree and left happily. The boy didn’t come back after he picked the fruits. The tree was sad.

One day, the boy grown into a man returned and the tree was so

excited.

“Come and play with me,” the tree said.

“I don’t have time to play. I have to work for my family.

We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?”

“Sorry, I don’t have a house, but you can chop off my branches to build your house.”

So the man cut all the branches off the tree and left happily. The tree was glad to see him happy but the boy didn’t come backafterward. The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot summer day, the man returned and the tree was delighted.

“Come and play with me!” The tree said.

“I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?”

“Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy.”

So the man cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and didn’t come back for a long time.

Finally, the man returned after he had been gone for so many years. “Sorry, my boy [man]. But I don’t have anything for you

anymore. No more mangoes for you...” The tree said.

“I don’t have teeth to bite,” the man replied.

“No more trunk for you to climb on.”

“I am too old for that now” the man said. “I really can’t give you anything ... the only thing left is my dying roots,” the tree said with sadness.

“I don’t need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years,” the man replied.

“Good! Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest.

Come sit down with me and rest.” The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears...

This is the story of everyone.

The tree in the story represents our parents. When we were young, we loved to play with Mother and Father. When we grew up, we left them... We only came to them when we needed something or when we were in trouble. No matter what, parents will alwaysbe there and give you everything they can to make you happy.

It may seem as if the way the boy treats the “tree” in the story is cruel, but many of us take our parents for granted in the same way. Never forget how important your parents are and try not to take them for granted...they may not be around forever.

Moral of the Story: Don’t take things for Granted and don’t

be selfish and greedy.

India to play cricket against Pakistan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that details of reviving a bilateral cricket series with India would be worked out sometime in June after directives from Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani.

PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt told a newspaper in an interview that he was hopeful that details of the series would be worked out in June.

"We have got positive signals from across the border, which is a good sign for Indo-Pak cricket," he said.

Butt, however, said that since the Prime Minister has instructed the PCB not to plan the series at any neutral venue, the Indian team would be invited to play in Pakistan.

"The revival series will not be held at a neutral venue because the Prime Minister wants us to play host to the Indians and we are confident that we can organise the series safely and successfully," Butt said.

"What we need to know work out is find a suitable time slot from the busy schedules of both teams to organise this series."

Butt also hinted that due to the packed calendar of the Indian team, the series could be split into two parts, saying that the T20 and One-day matches could be played at one time, followed by the Test series later.

He said that since the Prime Minister was taking personal interest in the matter, foolproof security would be provided for the proposed series.

"We are also hopeful that if we can host India in Pakistan. It will also pave the way for other teams to tour Pakistan."

India cancelled a tour to Pakistan in early 2009 in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks and suspended all bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan.

But the ice broke recently when Pakistan's premier visited Mohali on the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and they watched the World Cup semifinal together.

Butt said the World Cup match and the presence of the two Prime Ministers had broken the ice and they were clear indications that both governments wanted revival of cricketing ties.

Polling begins in Tamil Nadu, Kerala

Voting started this morning in all the 140 Assembly segments in Kerala, where the main fight is between the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front and the Congress-led United Democratic Front..

As per the reports from across the state, the voters’ turn-up was brisk. A total of 971 candidates are in the fray —— many of them are independents.

Over 1.25 lakh security personnel have been deployed for peaceful conduct of the voting in 20,578 polling stations.

Besides the state police, contingents from other states and central paramilitary forces had been deployed for smooth conduct of the elections.

Around 2.31 crore people, including 8862 NRIs, will exercise their franchise today.

The campaigning for the elections had remained by and large peaceful, but for sporadic clashes on the concluding day.

High profile contestants in the fray include Chief Minister and CPI (M) veteran V.S. Achuthanandan (Malampuzha), UDF’s chief ministerial contender and Congress leader Oommen Chandy (Puthupally), KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala (Harippad), state Home Minister and CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan (Thalsssery) and senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal (Nemom).

The state recorded 72.38 per cent polling in 2006 Assembly polls.

Polling for the 30-member assembly of Puducherry union territory started here Wednesday at 8 a.m.

Over 810,000 voters are eligible to vote in 867 polling booths. They will decide the political fate of 187 candidates.

The contest is mainly between the Congress-led front comprising DMK, PMK and VCK, and the All India NR Congress (AINRC)-led front consisting of AIADMK, DMDK, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and Communist Party of India (CPI-M).
