Selena GomezJustin BieberSelenaJealousy

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have been over for a while now, so it’s no wonder that she isn’t worried if he gets jealous over her new relationship with The Weeknd. HollywoodLife.com has learned EXCLUSIVELY just how Selena feels about her ex-beau’s opinion.

“Selena is well aware that Justin wants what he doesn’t have,” an insider told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “But as far as she is concerned, he’s missed the bus one too many times.” It is clear that Selena, 24, still cares a great deal for her former lover and that she would never, ever rub another romance in his face. But the truth is they’ve both moved on, so she can’t let any jealousy on the 22-year-old “Sorry” singer’s part get to her.
The “Hands To Myself” singer seems to know Justin very well so she must be sensitive to his feelings and respect if he is a teeny bit jealous, as he proved he might be when he dissed The Weeknd’s music. But she knows he doesn’t really harbor any ill will toward her new beau. “She knows Justin doesn’t really think The Weeknd’s music is whack,” an insider told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

Ever since then Bella has given signs that she does not approve of the relationship, which started just two months after she broke things of with The Weeknd. There sure is some drama brewing here!

Quality time with Auntie KoKo! Dream Kardashian looked happier than ever to be bonding with Khloe Kardashian while they spent time together on Jan. 24. Doesn’t thins picture just put the biggest smile on your face?!

Khloe Kardashian, 32, has been spending a lot of time in Cleveland with her boyfriend, Tristan Thompson, 25, lately, so when she’s back home in California, she makes sure to score some quality time with her adorable nieces and nephews. On Jan. 24, that meant a bonding session with Rob Kardashian, 29, and Blac Chyna’s little girl, Dream Kardashian!

Dream looked beyond thrilled to be hanging out with her aunt, and Khloe posted the cutest pic to Instagram of herself lovingly gazing at the 2-month-old, who had the biggest smile on her face. Kylie Jenner, 19, can also be seen in the corner of the pic gazing at Dream, and it’s clear the newborn’s bond with the reality stars is already being built.

Khloe Kardashian — SEE PICS

Khloe has been vocal about wanting children of her own ever since she was married to Lamar Odom, 37, but fertility struggles, followed by the pair’s split, never allowed that to happen. She dated French Montana and James Harden after the breakup, but never got serious enough to take it to that level.
Now, she’s hot and heavy with Tristan, and after just five months of dating, she’s already getting ready to take the next step. “Khloe says things are serious,” People recently reported. “She spends more time with Tristan in Cleveland than in L.A. She, of course, is thinking about the future. She hopes their relationship will have a future.”
Tristan is seven years younger than the reality star, but he definitely seems to be equally as into her. Could this be the guy she finally has babies of her own with?!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Dream is a cute baby? Do you think Khloe is a good aunt?

The Complete List of 'American Idol' Winners: Where Are They Now? American Idol The Most Watchable Show In The World

2017-01-24T00:34:00.002-08:00

American Idol has launched some incredible careers. But, let's face it, there are probably a few winners that you forgot even existed. We all know what became of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, but what about the others? As the iconic competition series gears up for its 15th and final season, ET is looking back at what ever happened to those forgotten Idol victors.

1. Kelly Clarkson (2002)

Today, Clarkson is a three-time GRAMMY winner with seven studio albums under her belt. Her latest, Piece by Piece, was released in 2015 and scored her two new GRAMMY nominations.

2. Ruben Studdard (2003)

He's still making music! Studdard released a covers album, his sixth studio effort, in 2014. Around the same time, fans watched the 6'3 singer drop 119 pounds on NBC's The Biggest Loser.

3. Fantasia Barrino (2004)

Known now simply by her first name, Fantasia has stayed busy over the last decade. She released four studio albums, starred in a Lifetime movie about herself, and appeared on Broadway. The GRAMMY-winner is expected to release a new solo album in 2016.

4. Carrie Underwood (2005)

Ms. Underwood -- now, Mrs. Mike Fisher -- went on to become American Idol's most successful alum to date. The country cutie is arguably one of the genre's biggest stars and the only artist to score six consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. She's a seven-time GRAMMY winner and an 11-time ACM Award winner.

5. Jordin Sparks (2007)

Sparks also went on to be one of the more successful winners of the franchise, with three studio albums and a leading role in Whitney Houston's final film, Sparkle. Though she didn't win, Sparks did score a GRAMMY nomination for her collaboration with Chris Brown, "No Air," back in 2009. Sparks released her third studio album, Right Here, Right Now, in 2015 amid a highly publicized new romance with rapper Sage the Gemini.

6. Taylor Hicks (2006)

Believe it or not, Hicks has remained one of the highest-earning Idols in recent years. According to Forbes, the 39-year-old has scored big paydays with his Las Vegas residency, tour dates, and his co-ownership of an Alabama BBQ restaurant called Saw's Juke Joint. Recently, Hicks accompanied Dierks Bentley on stage with his harmonica for CBS Sports' Deer Valley Celebrity Skifest, and he performed in the Hollywood Christmas Parade.

7. David Cook (2008)

After releasing two albums with RCA Records, Cook split from the label in 2012 and re-located to Nashville, Tennessee. (Fun fact: Cook co-wrote country singer David Nail's hit single, "Kiss You Tonight.") He released Digital Vein, his first independent release since pre-Idol, in 2015.

8. Kris Allen (2009)

In one of the most surprising upsets in Idol history, Allen topped Adam Lambert for the season eight title. His debut single, "Live Like We're Dying," became a hit in 2009, but he made major headlines for a devastating car crash in 2013 that rendered him almost unable to play music. Thankfully, Allen recovered and released his third studio album, Horizons, in 2014. Now, in 2016, Allen is expecting his second child with his high school sweetheart-turned-wife.

9. Lee DeWyze (2010)

DeWyze split from RCA Records just one year after winning Idol and releasing his debut album, which peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard 200. His 2013 album, Frames, showed off more of the singer's folk roots, but didn't make much of a splash on the charts. But if you watch The Walking Dead, you probably heard DeWyze's voice and didn't even know it! His "Blackbird Song" was featured in season four of AMC's hit drama.

10. Scotty McCreery (2011)

At just 17 years old, McCreery became the series' youngest male winner and second youngest winner overall (after Sparks, also 17 at the time of her victory). Since then, McCreery has become a certifiable star in the country music world, selling more than 2.5 million albums and scoring three Platinum-certified singles, all while attending college at North Carolina State University. His third studio album, featuring the single "Southern Belle," is expected out early this year.

11. Phillip Phillips (2012)

Phillips' career was given a boost when his Idol coronation song, "Home," was selected as the theme for NBC's Olympics coverage, among other TV projects. Even Idol picked up one of Phillips' tracks, with "Gone, Gone, Gone" serving as the season twelve send-off song. He's released two studio albums post-Idol, but filed a bombshell lawsuit against 19 Recordings in early 2015. In court docs obtained by ET, Phillips called his contract with 19 "oppressive."

In happier news, Phillips tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Hannah Blackwell, in October 2015.

12. Candice Glover (2013)

Glover's debut album, Music Speaks, was released in 2014, but failed to produce a hit single. Glover claims to be working on a follow-up album via social media posts, but seems to be keeping busy performing at corporate and professional sporting events.

13. Caleb Johnson (2014)

Johnson wasted no time getting his debut album, Testify, on the market, releasing it less than three months after his coronation. Moving along at breakneck speed, Johnson parted ways with his label less than nine months later. "I want to find the right home and the right team of people that are going to get behind my music and really do something," he told Billboard at the time. "What's the point of doing it if the [label] isn't going to do anything?"

14. Nick Fradiani (2015)

Fradiani's first single, "Beautiful Life," co-written by Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba, barely cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in May of last year, and we're still waiting for that debut album.

15. Trent Harmon (2016)

Harmon won the 15th and final season of the singing competition and kicked off his career with "Falling," a single co-written by Idol judge Keith Urban. "I'm ready to get focused and go to work," Harmon told ET right after his big win.

In an emotional press conference on Feb. 14, the ‘Juno’ actress bravely revealed that she’s gay and that she hopes to help promote issues for the gay community.

So brave! Actress Ellen Page attended Time To THRIVE, a conference promoting issues of the gay community, on Feb. 14, but it wasn’t just to show support — she was also there to announce that she too, is gay.

Ellen Page: Actress Comes Out

“I’m here today because I am gay,” the Juno and Inception actress told the Las Vegas conference audience. “And because… maybe I can make a difference.”
The actress was given a standing ovation for making her brave announcement. She continued: “I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years, because I was scared to be out.”
After the conference, Ellen tweeted to the Human Rights Campaign, who held the event, thanking them for giving her the opportunity to come out:
It took a ton of courage for Ellen to do what she did, and her bravery will encourage so many others to feel more comfortable in their own skin.

Michael Sam: Potential NFLer Comes Out

Ellen’s huge announcement comes less than a week after Michael Sam, a former college football player, came out to ESPN’s “Outside the Lines.” Michael is entering the NFL draft in 2014, and if he is selected by a team he will become the first out player to play in the NFL.
That could be a momentous event, as was Ellen’s courageous coming out on Feb. 14. What do you think of it, HollywoodLifers? Let us know!

She’s baaaack. Miley returned with a vengeance on Feb. 14, opening her ‘Bangerz’ tour in Vancouver and topping all the wild expectations with a line of racy outfits. See all of the highlights from her first concert below!

We’ve had Feb. 14 circled on our calendars for months, and not because it was Valentine’s Day. Feb. 14 was the first night of Miley Cyrus‘ “Bangerz” tour, and the controversy-loving singer did not disappoint, twerking and gallivanting around her elaborate stage in a series of wild costumes.

Miley Cyrus Gets Wild At ‘Bangerz’ Opener

The Vancouver audience must’ve known they were in for a show when Miley emerged from a massive picture of her own face. Taking a ride to the stage down a slide that acted as the big-faced Miley’s tongue, the singer was already stunning in a sparkly red two-piece, crotch-baring number with furry shoulders.

And that was just the beginning. Miley later took the stage in one of her naughtiest outfits to date — a marijuana-leaf-bedazzled, thonged onesie with a plunging neckline. Miley made things even raunchier by then bending over and giving everyone a look at her bare butt, and later gyrating all over a car that was wheeled out on stage.
Some of Miley’s other in-concert outfits included a white number that barely covered her intimates, an almost completely sheer futuristic outfit, and an extremely sexy red dress. Wow — that’s all we can say.

Miley Cyrus’ Past Performances

To be fair, we had more than a few opportunities to see this coming. Miley first gave us a taste of what her on-stage behavior was going to resemble during her stint on the Jingle Ball tour. The singer ramped up the sexiness by wearing crotch-baring onesies and twerking on a guy dressed as Santa Claus.
She also showed off her flair for the unique during her performance on MTV’s Unplugged. Instead of going the usual route of wearing something revealing, Miley rocked an odd-looking, baggy faux denim suit and a gingham, cowgirl-inspired outfit.
Both of those sexy, unique elements were visible during her performance in Vancouver and honestly, we’re into it. What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Check out all the pics above and let us know!

Talk about a tease! We and the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ fans got an awesome V-Day gift, as the movie’s first still was officially released on the romantic holiday. There’s just one problem — the film won’t hit theaters for an entire year!

Luckily we love a little celluloid foreplay because the producers of the sexy S&M book-to-movie Fifty Shades of Grey are already building the excitement for the 2014 release of the film. On Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, they posted a very enticing shot — of Dakota Johnson facing off against Jamie Dornan – on the film’s official Facebook page, along with the message “See you in a year. Happy Valentine’s Day! #FiftyShades.”

‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ First Picture Released — Valentine’s Day Present For Fans

The picture shows Dakota — as submissive heroine Anastasia Steele — wearing a black dress with a tan trench coat and holding a file. She is facing her bondage-loving boss Christian Grey (played by Jamie) whose back is to the camera.

Is it too soon for all this Fifty Shades build-up?

Yes, it's frustrating.No, I love it!

This isn’t the first taste we’ve gotten of Fifty Shades. On Jan. 24, the official poster was released and we got to see Jamie in character for the first time. It only showed him from the back but it got everyone buzzing.
The image — which was of course in shades of grey — has been all over the country on billboards. The poster also got hearts racing with the words, “Mr. Grey will see you now.”
Hmmm, wonder when they’ll give us a peek at the novel’s infamous red room!

Dakota Johnson’s ‘Elle’ Cover — Stunning & Sexy

Not everyone agrees that Dakota should have been cast as the sexy lead, but after seeing her recent photos we think she’s perfect for the part.
On the cover of Elle, the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson looked absolutely stunning in a bonded John Galliano dress with thigh-highs by Donna Karan, and red suede Manolo Blahnik sandals.
We love all the pictures we’ve seen so far from Dakota — and the producers of Fifty Shades, but we’re a little bummed we still have to wait a whole year before we see the movie. What do you think HollywoodLifers, are you out of your minds with excitement?

Kanye is working harder than ever before, even “begging,” the magazine’s editirix, Anna Wintour, to agree to put Kim on the cover — and he wants it done by Valentine’s Day so he can present his lady love with the ultimate gift! How sweet is that?

What do you get the girl who has everything for Valentine’s Day? Something she only dreamt of having — her very own Vogue cover! Our sources tell us that no one wants to see Kim Kardashian on Vogue as much as Kanye West — in fact, even more than Kim herself! Not only does he want to see his future wife on the high-fashion magazine, but he wants her on the cover in her wedding dress, nonetheless, and he wants to confirm Kim’s place by the romantic holiday so he can present her with the ultimate gift. Kanye stops at nothing when it comes to his romantic, over-the-top gestures for his lady love, so this news comes as no surprise!

Kanye West — Kim Kardashian’s Valentine’s Day Gift — ‘Vogue’ Cover In Wedding Dress?

Although rumors swirled that Kim was already shot for the magazine in LA on Feb. 2, multiple sources have told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that it still isn’t a done deal — but Kanye will stop at nothing to make it happen. “Quiet as it’s kept, Kanye hasn’t made the deal happen yet, but he wants Kim to pose on the cover in her wedding dress. He thinks that’s the epitome of everything and he’s begging Anna [Wintour] to say yes to it by Valentine’s Day,” a source close to the rapper tells us. “He wants Kim to be assured by then that it’s a done deal and that she has the cover thanks to him. In his mind, he would have given Kim the best f**king V-Day gift on earth if he got her on that cover. He really wants this for her and will do anything to make the sh*t work. Your boy is no quitter. He wants it more than Kim, but believe
me, Kim wants it a helluva lot too. She’s just ain’t as vocal as Kanye.”

The reality star recently dyed her hair back brown, fueling rumors that the change was for the magazine spread, and Kim and Anna seem to be closer than ever before — but is it close enough to make Kimye’s dreams come true? It certainly seems like it’s as close as they’ve ever come to a Kim cover, and with the couple’s upcoming summer nuptials in Paris the wedding theme makes a lot of sense.
Do you agree? Do you think it’s time for Kim to land her very first Vogue cover?

Farrah’s costars listened to her long and sad story, and most seemed sympathetic, but others looked considerably more judgmental as her story got more outrageous. Farrah’s shyness about the tape seemed to come suddenly, as she’s always been completely candid and blunt about it. But of course, Dr. Jenn praised her for opening up, telling her that her statement was “well put.”

It’s been reported that Selena Gomez is dating Austin Mahone, but apparently her feelings for on-again, off-again love Justin Bieber are holding her back from exploring new romance. Selena ‘isn’t in the frame of mind to handle a relationship right now,’ a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

As much as Selena Gomez, 21, may want to forget about Justin Bieber and move on with her life, it’s easier said than done. Selena flirted with the possibility of dating Austin Mahone after her BFF Taylor Swift tried to set them up, but the potential couple just didn’t click — and now we know why. Selena “is still wrapped around her love for Justin,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

Austin Mahone & Selena Gomez Relationship — Why They Aren’t Dating

It’s probably going to take a while for Selena to get over Justin, let alone take a chance on a new guy. Sadly, it seems Sel and Austin just aren’t meant to be.

“You can’t force something that will not work. They are both attractive and young and Taylor tried to make things happen but they are ultimately just friends,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Selena isn’t in the frame of mind to handle a relationship right now — she is still wrapped around her love for Justin and that is really throwing her emotions all over the place.
“She can’t really focus on a relationship with anyone else when her relationship with Justin, the one she wants, is so damaged,” the source adds.
Poor Selena! We hate to see her feeling so discouraged. We totally understand why she’s not ready to date other guys yet, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have a little fun.

Selena Gomez: Is Justin Bieber Jealous Yet? — She’s Flirting With Other Guys

As hurt as Selena is, she doesn’t want Justin to know “how badly he messed her up.”
“She’s making a huge effort to get out and show Justin and the world that she’s fine,” another source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. ”That’s why she’s going out so much, it’s all to send a message to Justin. And that’s why she’s been flirting with Austin. Taylor has been pushing her to go for Austin, but Selena is not in a place to date right now but that doesn’t mean Justin needs to know that.”
Good for Selena! Justin could use a taste of his own medicine after he heartlessly cast the “Come and Get It” singer aside for his new fling, Chantel Jeffries.

Justin and her former ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ co-star grabbed a bite at Katsuya and we bet they were talking about Justin’s recent DUI arrest. HollywoodLifers, do you think Selena is leaning on David in the midst of Justin’s downward spiral?

Selena Gomez can count on David Henrie. The former child star had dinner at this famous Japanese restaurant on Jan. 26 and by the looks of a pic snapped during their meet up, it appears they are having a serious conversation. But if you thought there might be a love connection, HollywoodLife.com has spoken to an insider who tells us that these two are just friends.

Although it appears as though they were on a date, HollywoodLife.com can tell you that they are just friends.
“Selena trusts David very much and they have been friends forever,” a source tells us. “There isn’t anything more romantic going on with them, it would be a shock if they dated because they are like brother and sister in real life as well.”

But it is worth noting that they were enthralled in a conversation, and we can’t help but assume it was not about a Wizards of Waverly Place reunion.
This is not the first time these old friends have grabbed sushi. In June they also went to a Japanese restaurant with several friends.

Justin Drives Selena To Tears

Selena grabbed a bite to eat with Demi Lovato, at Craig’s in Los Angeles on Jan. 24 and began to cry. HollywoodLife.com has learned that Selena is still very heartbroken over Justin and isn’t taking Justin’s new relationship with Chantel Jeffries lightly.
“She was crying over Justin and him being with Chantel,” an eyewitness tells us. “She is still very heartbroken. Vanessa was comforting her, hugging her, and telling her to ‘forget about him.’”
In the meantime, Demi spoke out and said that Selena is doing “really well.”
“Any advice I had for her, we talked last night and — you know — it’s between us. But I love her so much,” Demi told On Air with Ryan Seacrest at KIIS-FM’s Grammys pre-party on Jan. 24. “She’s doing really well right now.”

Paul Walker’s Cause Of Death Revealed

Since the tragic death of Paul Walker many have speculated the initial cause of his death. Now it’s being reported that the L.A. County Coroner’s Office has completed their examination via dental records for both Walker, and his friend, Roger Rodas, who was driving the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.
The L.A. County Coroner’s Office has released a statement in regards to the tragic crash that took the lives of actor Paul Walker, and his friend, Roger Rodas. Walker, 40, passed away due to a “combination of traumatic and thermal injuries.”
According to the statement, Walker did not die by the impact of the crash, and is believed to have been alive for a few seconds. It’s said that ultimately the fire caused by the impact was the cause of death. In the case of Roger Rodas, 38, the driver died on impact from severe injuries, and fire was not listed as a factor in his death.
It’s said that toxicology results will not be in for the two men until six to eight weeks, although the Medical Examiner has ruled that the deaths of Walker and his friend were accidental.
As for the event surrounding the accident, the two men were winding down after a charity event for Walker’s ROWW organization when they decided to take the red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT out for a test drive. According to Walker and Rodas’ mutual friend, Jim Torp, the two were not drag racing and were testing out a problem with the car that the two were trying to diagnose.
Shortly they left the garage, tragedy struck. According to Torp, smoke was visible from Always Evolving Performance Motors, which was the shop Rodas owned, and is around the corner from the crash site. Although many of their friends tried to get them out of the car, there was nothing that could be done. Khloe and Lamar went through an unbelievable amount of drama before their breakup, but surprisingly, their relationship post-breakup has been just as shocking.

Khloe Kardashian may have thought that she was leaving all the drama behind when she filed for divorce from Lamar Odom on Dec. 13, but as it turns out, making the split official only incited more hard-to-swallow moments.

Lamar Odom & Khloe Kardashian Split: A Family Feud

The divorce has sadly caused a serious rift between the Odom and Kardashian families. Lamar’s dad lashed out at Khloe and her family before the split, and after the documents were filed, his daughter, Destiny, took to her last.fm page to diss the marriage.

“No one thought they were going to last, so honestly, who [cares],” Destiny coldly wrote.
Harsh words have also flown between Khloe and Lamar themselves. Besides saying that she was “excited for this year to be over with” to Cosmopolitan UK, Khloe has also released a steady stream of Instagram messages that seemed intricately connected to Lamar. Some messages have sounded vindictive, while others have suggested that Khloe is lonely and sad.

Khloe Kardashian’s New Romance After Lamar Odom Divorce

But arguably the most post-breakup development between Khloe and Lamar has been how quickly she dipped her toes into the dating pool again. Around the holidays, just days after Khloe filed for divorce, a romance with Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp started heating up.
“Khloe and Matt snuck off at the end of the night and they got to steal a kiss” at the Kardashian’s family Christmas party, a source told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. Things were pretty hot and heavy, but to be fair, they have fizzled out. “Khloe told Matt it would look bad for her divorce to be dating so soon,” a source told Us Weekly. “So they have to put on the brakes until it’s finalized. She wants it to remain clear that Lamar was the cheater. Matt understood. Khloe is figuring things out with Matt. She thinks he’s great.”
It’s unfortunate that in trying to get away from scandals, Khloe has only run into more, but there’s no doubt that in the long run, the divorce will bring the reality star some peace of mind.
So HollywoodLifers, what do you think has been Khloe and Lamar’s most shocking post-breakup moment? Let us know!

Muslim couple arrested in Sweden for 'smacking son when he refused to pray'

Campaign launched for release of Muslim couple in Sweden who allegedly smacked their 12-year-old son's hand for refusing to pray

Thousands of Malaysians are backing a campaign for the release of a Muslim couple after they were arrested in Sweden for allegedly smacking their 12-year-old son’s hand when he refused to pray.

Azizul Raheem Awalludin, who is the Stockholm director of the Malaysian tourist board, has been on remand for over a month with his teacher wife Shalwati Nurshal, and anger back home has erupted over both their detainment without charge, and that their four children were placed with non-Muslim foster parents.

A Facebook page, Bring Shal and Family Home, has amassed more than 14,000 followers in five days as the Malaysian media reports that the oldest child, Aisyah, is uncomfortable about living in a house where non-halal food is served and a dog is kept.

“Although they do not feed us non-halal food, we share the crockery and utensils used for non-halal food,” she said.

“We have to fend for ourselves. Every day we have to take the public transport such as the bus or train in cold weather. We don’t have enough warm clothing.”

The teenager also complained about the Swedish authorities stopping the children from seeing relatives who had flown into look after them.
The detained couple have requested the Swedish Social Services to let their children be temporarily cared for by a Muslim family at the Malaysian embassy in Sweden until their case is resolved, according to Free Malaysia Today newspaper.
Rohani Abdul Karim, Malaysia’s Minister for Families told Malaysian media that the Government was doing all it could to resolve the case through diplomatic channels: “We believe there was no child abuse involved.”
“It was probably a misunderstanding about the parents educating their children religiously and instilling good Muslim values in them from a young age.”
Swedish authorities, who were alerted about the incident by the boy’s school, are continuing to investigate the parents.
Sweden has strict laws banning all physical punishment of children, and many internet users have questioned how the family were ignorant of these protection laws – when it is believed they had lived in the country three years.
Sweden’s laws has surprised many in Malaysia though, where parents smacking their children is widely accepted as normal.
Philip Golingai, a columnist in the Kuala Lumpur newspaper The Star, reminisced about being beaten by the rotan, a cane, during his childhood in the 1980s: “Some of my schoolmates had it worse. Their parents hit them with broomsticks, feather dusters, clothes hangers, belts and irons.”

TSB, Lloyds and Halifax customers complain as cards won't work

TSB reports problems with cards being declined and cash dispensers not working

A number of banks have reported problems with cash machines and cards which have left hundreds of thousands of customers unable to pay for goods.

Customers of TSB, Lloyds and Halifax have all said debit cards have been declined in shops, while cash dispensers have failed to release cash.

The chief executive of TSB said that two of the seven servers that process debit card payments have suffered problems - affecting about one quarter of TSB card transactions.

The company has about five million UK customers.

TSB bank, which operates as a separate business within the Lloyds Banking Group, said on Sunday evening: "We are aware that some TSB customers are unable to use their debit cards either to make purchases or to withdraw money from ATMs. This has impacted all Lloyds Banking Group brands. We are working hard to resolve this and unreservedly apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Lloyds Banking Group said the problem affected some customers at half of its 7,000 cash dispensers, from 3pm onwards, and was resolved by 7.30pm.
Not everyone who tried to use their cards has had problems, and online customers have been unaffected.
Cashpoints which dispensed cash to some customers were not working for others.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, Lloyds Banking Group said: “We apologise that earlier today, between 3pm and 6pm, some customers were unable to complete their debit card transactions.
"Although the majority of transactions were unaffected, we are very sorry for the inconvenience that this will have caused. At the same time, some customers encountered problems at approximately half of our 7000 ATMs. This was resolved by 7.30pm, and all of our ATMs are now working.”
Both Halifax and TSB are part of the Lloyds Banking Group.
TSB has more than 630 branches across England, Scotland and Wales.
The bank was launched in September 2013 and was formed from a number of Lloyds TSB branches in England and Wales, all branches of Cheltenham & Gloucester and the business of Lloyds TSB Scotland.
One TSB customer Nicky Kate tweeted:: “Really embarrassed to get my card declined while out shopping, never had any problems with lloyds then they changed my account.”
Another, Hannah Smith, said:: “I am a TSB customer with a Lloyds card still (like everyone else). And I’ve been embarrassed three times today re: card declined.”
Carl Bullivant tweeted: “Wife’s card declined in Asda had to go get my card from home how embarrassing standing and waiting £poorbankingservice.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “This problem is also affecting Halifax debit cards as I found out trying to pay for lunch with my wife!”

The single most pointless class I ever took in high school was economics. What should have been Adult Orientation 101 turned out to be nothing more than how to balance a checkbook (basic addition and subtraction) and "generic food is just as good as name-brand food" (how to boldfaced lie to teenagers). I really hope it's changed since then, but just in case it hasn't, I'm offering some useful real-world lessons about jobs that I think every high school should adopt and pass along. Lessons like ...

#5. Don't Be Afraid of the Phrase "Ass Kisser"

BananaStock/BananaStock/Getty Images
There aren't many types of people more terrible to work with than ass kissers. Movies and TV shows love using them because it's the easiest way to create an instant villain and get your hand to involuntarily curl into an asshole corrector. They're shameless, manipulative, self-serving slime -- who the hell wants to be thought of as that?
Well, that's kind of the problem. Those exaggerated caricatures we see in movies are pretty rare to find in real life. True ass kissers are more subdued, because being called out would ruin their method of climbing the ladder. Since this makes them more difficult to spot, anyone who is even slightly polite and helpful to the higher-ups ends up getting that label from the petty twats you work with. This isn't a trivial matter. I've seen it freeze careers like a Zack Morris timeout.

Creatas/Creatas/Getty Images
Damn you, Zack Morris! Your inability to control your power has killed an innocent man!

It's all because you're most likely going to be interacting with your co-workers much more frequently than your boss. If you're viewed as an ass kisser, you're going to spend the majority of your day in a hostile work environment, because many of them will be sexually aroused from constant fantasies of your violent death. Since it's human nature to want to be liked, it's extremely easy for a person to do what's expected of them -- no more, no less -- in favor of fitting in and avoiding the negativity.
The problem is that the biggest promotions and raises aren't given to the people who do what's expected of them. The big ones are given to those who do more than what's spelled out in their job description. Am I telling you to start kissing ass? Hell no. Unless that's your thing, in which case I don't care if you flat-out french their butthole. What I'm saying is that you can't let your performance be dictated by how your co-workers will interpret it.

Jupiterimages/Pixland/Getty Images
Hopefully they'll have the decency to call you names behind your back.

Remember, many of these assholes probably won't even be working there in a few years anyway. And of those who are, wouldn't it be better to be their boss than constantly begging for their acceptance? I suppose it all depends on what you want out of the job. Speaking of which ...

#4. Don't Keep Your Goals (and Accomplishments) to Yourself

David Woolley/Photodisc/Getty Images
Most of us have been brought up to exercise some semblance of modesty. Braggarts are every bit as neck-punchable as ass kissers, so we learn to either tone it down or accept a life filled with eye rolls and truncated conversations. The downside to that belief is that it keeps you under the radar at work. Sure, that's a great place to be if your job depends on Gordon Ramsay not asking for your chef's jacket, followed by a tear-filled interview about how the world hasn't seen the last of you. It's not so good when it comes to real-world performance reviews that define your pay scale.
Unfortunately, letting your boss know about your accomplishments is an acquired talent. You have to be careful how often you let people know, as well as what tone you take when you do it. Otherwise you come off as an attention whore who's just fishing for a pat on the back. Don't do it enough, and they'll just assume you're doing what's asked of you and no more.

Ryan McVay/Digital Vision/Getty Images
"Oh, hi, Chad. I wasn't even aware you still worked here."

See, the problem with many employer/employee relationships, especially in a workplace that has a lot of workers, is that when you see the boss, it usually means something bad has happened. Someone has fucked up a report or flooded the mail room with fish again. Managers want people who can do the job without them having to stand over your shoulder. The whole point of your position existing is so the boss doesn't have to worry about that job and can concentrate on other facets of the business, like telling Jack Lemmon to put that coffee down or practicing his "brass balls" speech.
The better you do, the less time they have to take out of their day to check up on you. And the less they interact with you, the less they know about you and what you bring to the table, not just in a corporate environment, but in pretty much any job at all. You find yourself covering other people's shifts and working extra hours, but you don't get so much as a nod from the manager. Or you work in a factory where you put in the same number of hours as everyone else, but you produce twice the amount of product, without so much as a simple "good job" from your jackoff supervisor. Every day you understand the appeal of arson just a little better.

Jupiterimages/Pixland/Getty Images
Let's just hope for their sake that your insurance doesn't lapse.

It's their job to make sure you don't fuck up, because if you do, it's their responsibility. It's your job to make sure they know it when you go above and beyond. Not in a bitchy "I'm overworked" manner, but in a way that just lets them know, "I'm putting in more than is asked of me. Please keep that in mind when it comes time for raises." The same is true for your goals. The odds of your boss just handing you your dream job based on your past performance is about the same as your celebrity crush giving you a genital massage. However, if you've made it perfectly clear to them that your goal is to work your way up to a particular position, you'll be surprised how many bosses will tailor your workload in preparation for that.

#3. Networking Is as Important as Your Job Performance

George Doyle/Stockbyte/Getty Images
For those not in the know, "networking" is a term used in business and entertainment that boils down to "socializing for personal gain." Celebrities attend high-profile clubs so their picture ends up in tabloids and magazines, hence keeping their name in the public eye. Business people attend parties, lunches, and satanic cult sacrifices so they can meet new contacts in the industry or make their current bonds stronger. It's a weird idea to people whose jobs don't rely on it, but it doesn't mean they're exempt, as douchey and pretentious as it all sounds.
I used to run a website for a group of auto dealerships. The job itself was awesome, but I hated almost everyone I worked with. Every year they had a big Christmas party, and every year I blew it off. The idea of hanging out with people I regularly envisioned enveloped in flames was excruciating. What I didn't understand at the time, though, was that these after-hours social gatherings were creating tighter relationships between all of them, while pushing me further and further outside of their clique. To them, I probably appeared to be an antisocial asshole. They weren't entirely wrong.

Noel Hendrickson/Photodisc/Getty Images
What? Sitting in the bathroom and listing the names of my enemies is cathartic.

A few years later, the dealership was forced to cut costs and positions, and they didn't hesitate to give me the finger and send me out the door. In fact, I was their very first cut. Now, that's not saying that if you don't attend your job's social gatherings, you'll be standing in an unemployment line while your old boss masturbates to your lust-quenching tears, but you should know that it absolutely can work in your favor.
What a lot of first time workers don't realize is that when deciding on a promotion, a manager doesn't just base his decision on who does the best job or who puts in more hours. Trust is an enormous factor. If they put you into a position of authority or increased responsibility and you fuck it up, it's as much their fault as it is yours. So between two applicants with relatively equal skill, the one who's getting the job or promotion is the person that manager knows and trusts the most.

John Rowley/Digital Vision/Getty Images
"You'll notice I've placed bags of cocaine and a prepaid cellphone under each of your chairs ..."

Does that mean you have to attend every company function? No. Make too much of an effort to socialize, and you'll just be annoying ... or worse, fall into ass kisser territory. Just taking the time to say hi during mutual breaks or talk about their interests before your shift starts is a great way to warm up to them. Short of throwing out free blow jobs and blackmail, it's the easiest advantage you can give yourself in a job.
