Sea Life Manchester....

Over the half term holiday, the children and I were invited along to a preview event at Sea Life Manchester before it officially opened to the public. The little Poppins were eager to attend! It sounded a perfect family friendly event and I was a little excited too as growing up by the beach, I love all things sea related. Sea Life Manchester is the 14th Sea Life centre to open in the U.K. and features over 5000 sea creatures.

My little Poppins couldn't wait for the doors to open...

As there were quite a number of family bloggers and media peeps attending, there were little waits here and there, but things got moving quite quickly as we made our way around. If possible and convenient for your family, I would certainly consider leaving the pram at home/in the car as it did feel a little congested at times with all the buggies etc. I know Sea Life Manchester are going to be reviewing the pram situation and of course, not everyone shall have a pram with them on their outing, but was just something we noticed on the day.

Without wanting to give too much away, one of the first rooms we entered involved a great interactive talk about the centre, and featured a wonderful introduction to some delightful sea creatures. The children loved it! As we made our way around, you couldn't help but be amazed by the tanks, and there were even tanks that could be crawled under, making the little ones seem like they were swimming with the fish.

I loved the sharks and was mesmorised by their stillness. As you walk around, you can't help but get drawn into the underworld environment all these sea creatures live in. There is a touch screen by every tank and I really enjoyed reading about the species of fish/sea creature I was watching. Half way round you can actually get up close and have a little touch of the little creatures at the touch pool. Master Poppins had great fun gently holding the crabs, and there are sinks available nearby for everyone to wash their hands.

Walking around you could see a soft play area and shop that were having their final touches given before the grand public opening, and you can even pre book your own Sea TREK which I have to say I don't think I'm quite that brave enough to do myself ;) So a very enjoyable family attraction and one definitely worth consideration, when it comes to fun days out!

HomeSense Store Grand Opening!....

We all know I love a good shopping expedition and when I found out a new HomeSense store was opening at The Arndale Centre in Manchester, and I was invited along, well, I had to pop along didn't I. HomeSense has long been a favourite place of mine to shop, and I have picked up many a bargain there in the past. I just love the shabby chic style treasures one can often find in there, and with up to 60% off the rrp, there are real savings to be had. The new Arndale store shall feature up to 50,000 items for the home, with daily deliveries bringing 10,000 new items of stock each week. This certainly offers customers something new each time they visit.

Being a Corrie fan, I was looking forward to meeting Antony Cotton, who was the special guest to open the store. He was a great sport when I asked for a little snapshot with him after he cut the ribbon!

Once the ribbon was cut, in I went for a little moochy. I have to say I was like a little girl in a sweet shop. I couldn't resist heading over to see some of the Emma Bridgewater bedding, it really was lovely. And you can never have enough cushions can you ;) There were some great designs on offer.

Party Time At Chill Factore!....

We all love a party in the Poppins household and no one as much as Miss. Poppins!

When she was invited by Chill Factore to be the guest of honor at one of their fun snow Parties she couldn't wait to say yes and began to excitedly write out her invitations to some of her closest school friends. She was invited along to give a little review of what she thought it was like to have a party at Chill Factore and of course all her friends were to give their opinion too. As mum, I quietly observed but can let you know so much fun was had and I would definitely recommend considering holding your birthday party at Chill Factore.

There are various party packages on offer at Chill Factore, including different snow activities etc. Miss. Poppins party package included, hire of helmets and snow boots for all the children, 1 hour of tubing and food and drink afterwards. As she had not had a birthday party this time around, it was decided as well as an 'End of Sats' party for her and all of her friends, it would also be her belated birthday party. All her invited guests, 9 of them were as excited as she was about the upcoming event.

On arrival we were greeted by our friendly and efficient party host who explained thoroughly the plans for the party. She then accompanied everyone to the changing village, where the children changed into their pre picked snow boots and helmets. As soon as everyone was ready, our party host took us all onto the snow for their activity. Being the party host parents, both Mr. P and I were assigned the roles of 'Party Helper' and we were allowed on the snow to oversee the activity. Oh boy, they did have fun!!

Being mostly 10 and 11 year olds, the tubing was a perfect activity for them to do, fun, exhilarating, and they got to show their slightly competitive side as many a race was had between two friends. One down the new bumpy slope, and one down the straight but fast one. The two party hosts at the top of the snow hill, were great at pushing them down.

"Faster, faster" they all shouted and the party hosts really were fantastic with the excitable children. Health and safety was adhered to at all times, and felt 100% confident that all the children were in very safe hands. It can seem quite a long way up...

Of course Mr. Poppins had to try out the goods for himself, and you can just see him sneaking in at the back of the party crew on the walkway...

Even after an hour the children could have kept going, they really were having so much fun, but the mention of hot pizza and fries got them eager for something warm to eat. However, Miss. Poppins couldn't resist one last go!

Our party host took us back to the changing village to take our boots and helmets off, and then showed us the way to the restaurant for the food. The food was perfect ( I had to taste test of course) for a group of hungry pre-teens, and served by some super friendly staff. Ice cream for afters and a little birthday cake, made for a wonderful party, her guests all gave the thumbs up and many who hadn't been to Chill Factore before, were eager to go back another day and perhaps try out a new snow activity. I know we shall certainly be going back very soon for some more fun in the snow at Chill Factore!

Room For Improvement Challenge: The Hallway....

I just love a home makeover challenge, so when the peeps at MoneySupermarket challenged me to do a little mini makeover with a budget provided for me of £50, well I couldn't resist saying yes! The Room For Improvement challenge has seen many bloggers getting involved and I am really enjoying seeing everyone's transformations. I would loved to have done a room, but I think even with my thrifty ways, I'd be pushing it to get an entire room done with a budget of £50. So, after much thought I decided to transform a 'space' into a special little retreat. Somewhere pretty, girly, that I we all can sit and relax, take time to have a cup of tea, read a book etc. A space I thought perfect was the area under our stairs in the hallway, and normally somewhat of a dumping ground. An old computer sits on a well past its sell by date desk, an old Ikea bookcase takes up quite a big area, and it generally just looks a very unappealing area to sit and relax in. You just want to walk straight past, getting from a to b without stopping to stay a while.

What this challenge has inspired me to do, along with the £50 budget, is utilize what I already have, to source new and second hand and to create a special area, that I DID want to stop a while and relax in. I do hope I've achieved that. So, here is the 'before' space, yes a little uninspiring huh?

Did I mention the walls are still unpainted, plaster pink has become a very fashionable colour in our home sweet home ;) It is a forever work in progress home, I love how it evolves but don't think the time shall come that it'll be completely 'finished'. Mind you, what would I do with my time in a 'finished' house ;) I love that its 'work in progress' state brings with it new challenges for me every day.

Knowing me, there had to be an element of pink in the new transformed space, and all things HOME related was definitely my inspiration. My starting point was that I knew I wanted some wall art for the back wall, and I really liked the idea of a pretty candy floss pink for the paint. I have always wanted to try out these vinyl wall art 'quotes' but had wondered if they were that easy to apply to the wall and whether, well, that it might look a bit naff. With my £9.99 in hand from my budget, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go, searching on ebay I found the perfect words! I just love the feature wall, and the inspiring words mean so much to us as a family. Regarding the application, it all went well, but my advice is, read the instructions carefully, then read them again and go slowly, very, very slowly when applying to the wall. So, that was my first inspired purchase and then the space evolved from there into a new, pretty, relaxing area that I just love!

Oh I did have fun! Miss Poppins took a hand in styling the area and I have to say we feel we can now stop for a little sit down in an area I can be proud of. So, what did I do and how much did I spend? Well, here's a little break down...

After I had purchased the wall art, I had a little mooch on freecycle and on offer was a well used but practical chest of drawers. Although a little shabby looking, I knew I could pretty them up. I enquired and was very kindly given them. Here they are awaiting a little TLC.

And here's what they looked like after a little paint job using some Annie Sloan 'Antoinette' pink and 'Old white'.

Ah, much better! I wanted to really go for it with the girly-ness and found a stash of unused floral stickers, which I think looked rather sweet.

Lining the drawers in some lovely vintage style floral wallpaper creates just a little more girly love!

So, that's the drawers done all for £0.00!! I already had many tins paint and rolls of unused wallpaper lying in wait for a pretty project like this. Next it was on to the chair. I kept the chapel chair from the 'before' photograph and decided to shabby it up, in keeping with my girly/pretty/shabby chic theme. Loving the distressed look, after painting it, I gave it a little sand here and there and popped one of my handmade cushions on it too.

And a little space for my pretty books.

As for the back wall I mixed a candy floss colour using mostly white with a little bubble gum pink, and a spoonful or two of the Annie Sloan 'Antoinette' pink. Perfick!

I was not brave enough to apply the wall art quote myself, so all the family got involved on that one! I spent a while making sure it was level, before doing the peeling back.

It got a little nerve wracking as the peeling back commenced.

Phew we got there! I loved the look of it straight away :)

The little canvas you can see was a purchase from Wilkinson, and at £3.00 didn't eat too much into my budget.

Another Wilkinson purchase was the pot pourri at £4.00, it has a really lovely, delicate spring scent.

Whilst in HomeSense I couldn't resist some purchases as I thought would sit beautifully in my our little sanctuary. First up is this floral suitcase at £7.99, I love it!

Next, I fell in love with this beautiful artificial posy that again cost £7.99. Just looking at it makes me smile so very, very much.

And what a bargain! The original Sia label reveals its rrp. Thank you HomeSense for providing me with such a bargantastic item there.

Whilst in the queue waiting to pay for the two items, I saw these.

Well, it would be rude not too at £2.29 and they look very pretty! With my girly-ness kicking in again, I decorated the lovely bon bon sweet jar with some sticky fabric tape and a little ribbon.

Next it was back to ebay to purchase a couple of pretties. First was this brand new Home Sweet Home wooden heart at £2.85 (with free P&P).

Next up on ebay I found a real bargain with this lovely lantern at £3.70, normally a candle would be housed inside, but I went for some pretty floral lights.

It looks lovely at night, providing a atmospheric glow over my little space under the stairs.

The pretty vintage bowl and Cath Kidston playing cards were a charity shop find at £1.00 for the little bowl and £2.00 for the sealed cards.

We ate the original sweets, hard work this makeover challenge stuff ya know ;) They were our own so replaced them with some more out of budget at £1.00. Yes more pink! My final purchase was this gorgeous Prima spring time craft magazine. I think it has been out a while, but I hadn't seen it and I thought it a perfect buy to help me relax in my our special corner. Possibly the best £3.99 I have ever spent on any craft magazine, and so up my street the the girly look inside.. I urge you to have a nosy if you see it in a shop.

The pretty handmade Daisy crochet blanket has been kindly borrowed from Miss. Poppins, it was a special gift for her from mummy and daddy, made by The Patchwork Heart. She loves it and not sure she'll let me borrow it for that long ;) The round wicker stool was another eBay purchase from a little while ago, that again I utilised for the space. Of course there has to be comfy slippers close by, and only my poshest ones would do for this special area ;)

One of handmade hearts hopefully makes for a personal touch.

I doubt I'll ever get bored here, though if I do, I have a selection of pretty books and magazines to occupy me. I painted the wooden magazine rack and I think looks loverly jubberly in the far corner.

So with a relatively small budget, you really can get inspired to turn an unused and not very pretty area into that perfect little space to relax and unwind in. Re purposing old furniture, sourcing places like freecycle and mooching on ebay means you really don't have to spend a small fortune to transform a space.

My French Connection Bargain!....

What a beautiful day! Oh I just love sunny days where I can delve into that pretty (mostly pink) area of my wardrobe and can get the dresses and the skirts out. I am a believer that yes, of course, its what's inside that counts, but wearing clothes that cheer you up really can make you feel very happy indeedy. And what made me very happy today was seeing the prettiest little spring time outfit in a charity shop. Oh I just loved it! The two piece set is French Connection (a brand a love). It looked in perfect condition and as I don't think is current season, loved it even more, as is kind of almost 'vintage'. I was drawn to it straight away.

I thought at first it was just the jacket for sale, so was delighted when I realised it was a two piece. And the flowers, oh I just loved the flowers!

Those of you that 'get' me, would know that I would be hopping for joy seeing this little number, so pretty, so floraly, so very, very lovely. I just had to try it on.

Well the jacket seemed to fit, yay!! Now to try on the skirt. Please fit, please fit!!
It did :) My little 6 year old Master Poppins was with me and he said it looked lovely and pretty on me, with him being somewhat of a fashion guru, I value his opinion very much. I popped the outfit back on the hanger and made my way to the till to double check the price, as the ticket had a little scribble on it and looked like was £14 for the two pieces.

Even though I would have found it very hard to put back. Being the thrifty sort I did a little hmmm whilst I had a little think about it. Then the very kind and generous Red Cross lady on the till made me smile even more by saying If I really liked it I could have it for £10, what a lovely bargain! I thanked her very much indeed, agreed the sale and promptly handed over my £10. I couldn't wait to try it on all over again. I just love the pleated style of the skirt which I think has a pretty vintage look to it. I may wear the outfit for my 40th garden party and perhaps to a wedding coming up. I know I'll certainly get my £10's worth.

Well, however much I wanted to, I can't play dress up all day, so one final curtsey....

I popped the little two piece safely away and can't wait to play dress up again :) It also reminded me, when walking onto a charity shop you just never know what little delight you may find! Next time you find yourself strolling past one ~ pop in and see!

Annie Sloan & A Little Bit Of Everything Else....

Oh my ~ what a blogging break I've had! It can however be very therapeutic in my opinion to recharge the blogging batteries at times, and real life of course can often get in the way of this blogging lark. Also, I am a real fan of Instagram and have been spending lots of my spare time over there. So, what have I been up to. Well, mostly painting actually. I am really enjoying broadening my love of refurbishing old and pre-loved furniture. I seem to have developed a deep love affair with Annie Sloan paints and although it is certainly not a 'budget' paint, I just can't seem to get enough of it!

I've been quite safe up to now, having only used subtle colours from her range, blues, whites, creams, greys...I am however slowly venturing onto the more dramatic hue's and having found my own method of applying it (I mix it with the tiniest bit of water) it really has been a dream to use. I have even sold some pieces which has been great for confidence and my little piggy (to buy more paint) bank ;)

Here's a very small selection of pieces I've painted, all beforehand very much needing some TLC and a shiny new coat.

These pretty wooden magazine racks in pink and blue, are lined with summery wallpaper.

I really like the way this old telephone table has turned out.

Cute 'distressed' kitchen stool, painted in my new love 'Provence.

I really like how a simple frame can be brought to life with a new coat of paint.

Having enjoyed painting with 'Provence', I decided to paint this intricate iron work garden set, I really love it!

I liked this Lloyd Loom set very much and knew I had to have it, even in its pre-loved state.

Both pieces were a little tatty around the edges so I have made a start painting the chair, choosing a subtle pink and have delved into my fabric stash to choose a fabric I am going to cover the original sprung seat with. I think it shall look very pretty when its all finished.

Here's a modern chair I have given the shabby chic look to, and with a new fabric covered seat.

I am nearly finished on the art deco dressing table that was a little shabby looking to begin with.

There's now always a piece ready to be given a new lease of life in the Poppins household, these are in the queue ready and waiting.

Urmmmm, I have four of these oak topped farmhouse tables to do!.

So I am being kept very busy, if you want to keep up to date with my furniture makeovers, I have a little facebook page Vintage Style At Home so please feel free to have a moochy. Wanting to be aware of new and various painting techniques and styles, I went on an Annie Sloan painting workshop that was great fun.

We were all given a little wooden heart to paint in our own choice of colour, which was a nice touch and made for a lovely keepsake. I decided to go for it and practice using a more dramatic colour than I would normally do. I painted it white first and then sanded back in certain areas for a distressed look.

We were also given wooden boards to practice techniques and various ways to use the Annie Sloan paints and waxes.

I can't wait to try out some of new techniques at home on real life pieces of furniture, and am looking forward to finding out more about the advanced course.

One day, during my blogging break I decided to sort through my vintage glasswear in readiness to sell, oh boy, I didn't realise how much I had collected over the years. It all looked very pretty displayed prettily on the table.

I'm still keeping crafty with my sewing, and really enjoyed making this personalised cushion for a special girl called Hattie.

I've also become a big fan of making these little daisy brooches too, in various pretty fabrics, I think perfect to decorate spring and summer outfits.

A while ago I was set a crafty challenge courtesy of Abakhan I made a little skirt for Miss. Poppins with this adorable camper van fabric.

I couldn't resist personalising a little t-shirt for her too.

And here she is at the beach with Master Poppins wearing the said outfit, she loves it!

I try and do something crafty, even if only a teeny tiny something everyday, good for soul in my opinion, and whilst I was supposed to be spring cleaning I got a little distracted with a candle, some vintage sheet music and a little doily. Cute I thought.

I still have a big passion for second hand shops, even with their big price increases that make me grrrr a little bit, especially when a second hand item is priced at a figure more than it would have cost new. Anyway I have to pop in when walking past any. This vintage wedding dress caught my eye, Oh how I loved it!!

What else caught my eye, and the little Poppins whilst we were on a little walk was witnessing a beautiful and very magnificent starling dance. We were literally awestruck, if you've ever seen the starlings in action, you'll understand the magic we felt.

So, that's about it for now, a little round up of what we've been up to. Its a 'big' birthday for me in the summer, am trying not to think about it too much, although going for a vintage theme to my little garden party I'm organising, I think it may just be a fun ~~old~~ young day :))

Candletastic!....

I am a big, big fan of candles and there is not one room in my home that a candle has not found its way into. I find them so relaxing and if they have a sweet, delicate fragrance then all the better. When The White Company asked if I would like to try out a candle from their new range, that would come in a lovely ceramic container and which was reusable after the candle had burned out, I of course could not wait to be inspired. The candle I received was their Fresh Thyme Candle It really is beautiful to look at, and the simple, effective packaging from The White Company I always find pleasing to the eye.

The design of the ceramic candle holder being quite simple, is yet oh so chic. There is a ceramic lid too which keeps all that pesky dust out.

The scent is so invigorating and yet at the same time relaxing. I wish you could scratch 'n sniff as it is such a beautiful fragrance. With fresh thyme, eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary, it really is as The White Company say, like having your very own herb garden in the home.

So, what could one do with the pretty ceramic holder once the candle has burned out? I thought of these little ideas....

The choices are endless. Being a candle handmade in the U.K. using high quality wax for a long, clean and even burn and with 40 hours burn time, this really is one luxurious candle that brings an air of sophistication to any home. We all love it in the Poppins house :)

Easter Inspiration!....

Well I have seem to have lost my blogging/painting/crafting mojo of late and I desperately wanted a little crafty project to inspire me to find it again. I love celebrations and Easter is no exception, I so enjoy spending quality time with family and friends over the holidays. Its been rather ~~stressful~~ eventful here in the Poppins household these last months or so, so am just relishing that we can now look back and wave all that goodbye and we can look forward. Miss. Poppins is off to secondary school this year and already I am feeling a little emotional, I can't wait for her to spread her wings, to be challenged and grasp any wonderful opportunities that may come her way. She'll always be my ickle girl, and I have a great yearning to want to hold her so tight and not let her go. Think we need a little practice run or two, as she shall be travelling a little way on a train, (though hopefully with some friends too) and crossing those big, big roads all on her own. She'll be fine, I'll be fine :)

Anyway, back to Easter, I took a little walk around the countryside and found the perfect twiggy branches for my Easter project. I knew I could work a little 'Poppins Magic' on my own twiggy-tree. So here are the twigs looking a bit, well, twiggy.

After grabbing some paint, and glitter (it is normal for a nearly 40 something woman to be playing with glitter, yes?) I think the twigs looked looked much prettier.

I wanted to leave a tiny bit of the natural wood bare, to give it a nice white wash appearance. Next for some pretty eggs. Poundland came up trumps with some great little sparkly ones from their super Easter range. I couldn't resist the little baskets too and picked up some great Easter treats. Chocolate eggs, Easter bonnet craft making kits, lovely decorative shred in pink and green, some Easter cards and an Easter balloon!

Oh so sparkly.

I couldn't wait to get them all on my twiggy Easter tree.

It's the first thing people see when they walk into my home, so I hope it has a cheery effect, and I do think looks rather pretty :)

I cant wait to hand out these little egg boxes to family and friends over Easter, I hope they share their little eggs ;) I love doing an Easter egg hunt with the children and they always have fun.

A Floral Mother's Day....

With Mother's day on the horizon I couldn't help but have a little browse at one of my favourite stores Cath Kidston to see what delights are on offer. I always feel a little spring in my step looking at all the pretty items on the website and in store and luckily my own mum has a liking for the Cath Kidston look too.

Unfortunately my mum is going to be away this Mother's Day, so I won't be seeing her on the day, but have taken great relish searching for some little treats for her. As I was going into the store I couldn't resist a little heads up on their website of what things they have available this season, and with so much to choose from I had great fun picking out one or two favourites like this beautiful Kempton Rose photo frame with its pretty floral design. I was thinking of putting a little snapshot of the children in there for her too.

Oh and as for this gorgeous and very sweet looking strawberry pin brooch, I just love it for her, it makes me think of her great cream teas with lashings of extra cream she makes.

Now that the woolly scarves can (hopefully) get packed away, I thought this Greenwich Flowers scarf a lovely spring time alternative and very much in keeping with my mum's style.

I don't think you go far wrong with some pretty hand cream for a special mother on Mother's Day and what could be prettier than this Rose hand cream.

Of course, even though I was browsing for my dear mother, I couldn't help but spy a couple of pretty things I myself may pop in the shopping basket when I go to the store. I shall be using the ever so speedy and efficient Parcelforce for my mother's day delivery to my own mum, and I am very tempted to get my very own little 'next day' parcel organised from my two young children, such were the very tempting things I have seen.

Of course Mother's day isn't just about the gifts, and although it is always lovely to unwrap something pretty, there shall always be loved ones not around, thought of very much, missed and who shall always have a special place in our hearts.

My Nametags Colour Stickers ~ A Great Product!....

Well what a busy time we have had in the Poppins household. We've had half term fun and frolics, which generally means us getting up very late, and eating lots of cake ;) Soon it was time to get the little members of the house back into school mode and something that came in very useful were these super duper My Nametags These wonderful colour stickers now work on clothes and the children had great fun choosing their own design. Master Poppins went for a very lovely and Cath Kidston looking pale blue with white star background, and a sporty cricket design. He also wanted his real name and not Master Poppins on there ;)

Next up was Miss. Poppins, and who chose a very pretty pink background, with an oh so cute Daisy design.

I just love them, they are so practical too as these Colour Stickers can be used for both clothing and equipment and there are 100's of designs, backgrounds and colours to choose from. I'm a big fan of anything personalised and these are just perfect. There is no need to even iron on, you just simply peel one off the sheet and stick it on the clothing washing label and it stays there, wash after wash. Our labels have gone in all their school clothes, shoes, bottles, pencil cases, you name it and the sticky back is a very high quality so sticks really well. My Nametags also sent a surprise pack of colour stickers for moi, which was just lovely of them and I have been drooling over the gorgeous stickers ever since. Perfect for my little Tshirts I personalise.

I had no input into the design, but if I had I would have chosen the very same, so thumbs up to the clever designer person who did these for me to play with.

I couldn't help but try one out on the reverse of a little lavender heart I handmade, I thought it much easier than sewing in a craft label every time.

Oh yes, I really like it. Now, what else can I use them for I wonder....

The possibilities for these personalised colour stickers are endless. A great product that I would highly recommend, especially for those like me, who just love that personalised touch.

Making Housework Pleasurable ~ Steam Mop Deluxe Review....

When it comes to housework, it has to be said I am not normally one who makes a run for the gadgets out there to get things done. Tasks such as cleaning my floors, is where I usually roll those sleeves up of mine and get stuck in with a scrubbing brush. Alright, so maybe occasionally I get the mop and bucket out but really, often my floors look twice as dirty as when I first started cleaning them when I use a soggy mop. You can imagine my delight when I was offered the opportunity to keep my sleeves rolled down and test out Black & Decker's newly released Steam Mop ~ Deluxe 2 in 1 with Steam Handheld Cleaner. Wow. If there is one product out there that can save me all that elbow grease surely this has to be it. When it arrived I couldn't wait to try it out and in eagerness had let my floors, sofa's and curtains get especially grubby. Well that was my excuse anyway ;) I thought the steam mop was very pleasing to the eye too, always helps when doing such things as housework ;)

This new model comes with a nifty detachable hand held steamer so really ,useful for your upholstery too, and you can even use the handheld cleaner for steaming the inside of ovens and shower cubicles.

It comes with a heap of handy attachments and is equipped with a steam bust button to help remove stubborn marks and stains which you can press during use to apply that extra cleaning power.

Black & Decker say....

"The new models are environmentally friendly using only water and heat. The high temperature of the steam works to break down dirt, and destroy bacteria ~ in fact 99.9% of germs will be destroyed. The great thing about this product is that it uses Digital Autoselect technology and therefore you can select the correct floor type (stone-marble, tiles-vinyl, wood-laminate) and then the right amount of steam is released and floors will dry in seconds. The Steam mop is safe to use on all sealed floors. You also have a carper glider attachment that helps freshen up carpets too. I was keen to try it out on the laminate flooring we have in Miss. Poppins' room, and as a pre-teen you can imagine what the floor gets like in there sometimes. Using the removable easy to fill water tank, which has its own built in water filtering system, I simply filled it using the included measuring jug with tap water. It only takes 15 seconds for the tank illumination to change from red to blue and we were ready to go.

Although occasionally you do have to put a bit more welly into pushing it along, once you get going it slides along very easily and I just love the swivel action so you can really get into those little corners.

After only a very short time I thought I would switch it off and have a look underneath. Yes, it was certainly picking up all that unwanted dirt.

I carried on and the room was finished really quickly and I was really pleased with the result. I couldn't wait to have more of a little play, so next it was on to the bathroom. First I had to select the correct floor type.

As the upstairs bathroom is teeny tiny, it was finished in quick speed.

And again the handy swivel action came in very useful.

Having, albeit a very lovely and cute dog in the household, means our sofa's occasionally get used as a bed for a certain someone. Yes I am very naughty letting him on there, but well, when he looks at me with 'those eyes' I can't resist.

Of course, now I have the handy hand held cleaner to use, I want to keep my sofa's looking like new, so for now he is (almost) banned from jumping up and it was so easy to use the detachable hand held cleaner for the sofa's.

We gave the curtains a little freshening up too, and I love that it is all natural, just steam, so no nasty chemicals involved.

I am yet to try out all the attachments, but I am very keen to get it working its steamy magic on the inside of my (very dirty) oven. Yes, if this multi-use steam mop can bring some cleanliness and delight to the inside of my oven, well, it deserves a medal.

I think it's got it's work cut out, don't you ;) So I have to say this product is great, a real time saver and a multi use, nifty little number. I would not normally have thought a steam mop could do so much around the home, but Black & Decker's deluxe model with handheld cleaner does practically everything you would want it to do and I look forward to coming back and sharing with you my shiny new clean oven :)

Valentine's At Poundland!....

I have to say I don't really go in for all this valentine's lark, love for a partner should be declared every day of the year I think ;) Though of course who doesn't like a little treat on Valentine's day, and if you only have a couple of pounds in your pocket, you could pop into Poundland for a little something. Being a Poundland Ambassador I was sent a small selection of valentine's treats to tempt me into feeling the love and I have to say they really do have quite a cute valentine's range on offer....

I do like to get a little something for the children on Valentine's day and Miss.Poppins would love this ickle bear....

I think the pretty heart shaped lights could bring a little romance to any room, and as for the sweet cupcake set, they would definitely get me in the mood....for baking....

So with all these items priced at just being £1 each you really can afford to treat your loved one's this valentine's.

Abakhan Craft Challenge!....

So, it is time again for a little Abakhan craft challenge and for my challenge on a budget this time I chose this selection of fabrics and bits and bobs....

As usual there is a little pink in there and I have decided to make up a little piece of clothing for Miss. Poppins. I have come across a couple of teething problems in constructing it but hopefully shall get there. I just love the hippy style Camper Vans fabric.

In fact, if there is any of that delicious fabric left over, I shall just have to make myself a little something ;) I have to say Abakhan is a fantastic place for all your sewing and crafty needs. Be warned if you ever go to one of their stores, you can spend many an hour there ;) I look forward to sharing with you what I made.

Château de Sable ~ Review....

I love having a little fashionista on my hands and I like to be challenged to find him stylish, quality clothes. Having a boy, sometimes this can be quite a feat. I remember shopping for my daughter when she was Master P's age and there seemed so much out there on offer for girls in the styles I liked. Even at only 6 years he really has his own little mind on what he likes to wear, and how he puts his outfits together. Of course, I do like to give him a helping hand at times, so I was more than delighted to try out a piece from Chateau de Sable who offer high quality designer children's clothes The collection of French children's clothes collection, that is aimed at newborn to 12 years old is just beautiful. I couldn't wait to see what piece Master Poppins had been sent to try out. The parcel came as it would be received by all customers who place an order online.

Isn't it pretty, I love the blue ribbon touch too. I was a very good mummy and waited for Master P to get home from school before opening the sweet parcel and he was rather excited too. He's a bit like his mummy in that respect as he just loves clothes.

Oh he loved it. It's from their boys Tops and Shirts collection, and should be available any day as it is brand new in for this season.

Chateau de Sable who have their own store that was opened in Chester in 2009, have also been selling an online clothing collection that was set up in 2010. The inspiration behind the brand is 'children at play' and that children should be, well just that, children. The quality of the clothes is quite remarkable and the attention to detail on each piece is outstanding. Of course, this is a designer children's wear brand so prices do reflect this, but as a special treat or a gift I think a perfect choice. Master Poppins' shirt indeed was the perfect item for him, and exactly something I would pick. He loves wearing it, and I think he looks rather dapper.

I just love the granddad collar detail.

Lego Land Discovery Centre Manchester ~ Giveaway! ....

Last week I was invited with my family to visit Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester. One of the highlights was to see the unveiling of their new LEGO Star Wars Model Display Now Master Poppins is a big, big fan of Star Wars and with us having never visited the discovery centre before, were keen to see what it was all about. A certain someone decided to take his favourite Star Wars rucksack with him ;)

Miss Poppins was also excited at going and they both enjoyed meeting Buzz.

And I couldn't help but admire the shabby chic crate display on the way through to the miniland.

The Lego displays really were quite spectacular.

The children loved it when the lights went down and everything became night time.

We decided to make our way over to the Star Wars display that is being showcased at the discovery centre until the 2nd Jun.

I don't want to give too much away but the children thought was great. Master P loved the fact you could interact with the displays too.

We were in there for quite a while and had great fun in this special room on our way out.

After visiting the Star Wars miniland we went to watch the screening at the 4D Cinema I have to say this for us, was the best attraction of the day. You really do get that 4D experience. It was great fun, and we all loved wearing our funny looking 4D glasses.

Next it was time for a couple of the rides, Miss Poppins and I had fun on this.

And we even saw a familiar face or two.

So, a really enjoyable visit and we certainly had fun. There is only one entry price at Legoland Discovery, Manchester, with all the attractions included. Tickets are available online from £8.10 per person and the centre is open daily from 10am. Bye Bye Pink....

I think it is well known by now that I am a keen lover of pink, but after being inspired by this book over on my makeover blog I seem to be wanting to paint everything in sight white. It has been hard painting over my beloved pink, and I shall always, always have a soft spot for her, but it had to be done.

In fact the paint brush has been out quite a bit. My little mirror unit with drawers that once upon a time look like this.

Are looking a lot better during their work in progress. Here's one of the little drawers having a wee rest after another coat. I can also happily say her broken foot is now all fixed too.

And the not to my taste gold mirror, well, I can't wait for her to dry so I can hang her somewhere pretty.

I have to say, I do find the preparation to painting quite tiresome and it really can take ageeeeees. I can't wait to get using some Annie Sloan paint and wax that has a great reputation. Perfect so it seems for us lazy painter's ;) If you have ever used it I would love to know what you thought.

As for my love of pink, there shall of course still be a hint of it around my home :)

Vintage Style At Home....

I don't know about you, but I find myself at the beginning of the year very much on slow go. It takes all my energy to get motivated and to get cracking on with the many things that need to be done around the home. As for my mojo, I think it really is time for him/her to come home now and one thing that is spurring me on is my new blog, Vintage Style At Home where I aim to post my many makeovers, both small and large on there. The time has come to get the paint brush out again and give those unloved objects and furniture I have in storage that need a pretty vintage touch. I want to finally get going on the half finished dresser....

Also I have lots of little furniture makeovers planned for Miss. Poppins' attic bedroom. She shall be starting secondary school this year (oh my where has the time gone) and we both have plans to make her room a little more user friendly for her. We both love the vintage charm look so that shall still be our basis, but we shall perhaps include some more up to date/grown up pretty touches here and there. I can't wait to get going....

So it would be really lovely if you wanted to keep up to date with my new makeover blog, as my aim is ultimately to perhaps inspire others to get their own paint brushes out etc. There is nothing quite as nice as bringing new life to a neglected, unloved item and the joy it brings. I have a furniture makeover to share on my new blog next time, so would be great to see you over there.

My New Pretty Slippers....

Oh, I really was doing so well with my new year's wish to not bring new and pretty things into my already full to bursting home. I have the willpower of a gnat. When I see something pretty, that brings a smile to my face I am just so easily tempted. So here they are, my new pretty and rather posh slippers. They are so sweet and are by Ruby + Ed I was lucky to find them half price in a little shop so I just had to grab them, literally.

Aren't they delicious. Not only pretty to look at but they are so comfy too, I feel like a princess in my new slippers, I really do....

Happy New Year one and all. I really don't know where the time has gone. Christmas for the Poppins household has been a busy activity of toing and froing between family houses. That now comes with packing a dog and a hamster into the car too, so does take some organisation. One wouldn't normally consider a Border Terrier getting along too well with a hamster, but they seem to have an understanding that each is a family pet. When the hamster decided to leave his cage for a little while one day, when someone had accidentally left his cage open, they came face to face in the hallway, yes you can imagine my face, but all was well. So we are back at home sweet home now, getting settled into the new year. A little exercise shall be high on my priority as I did rather over indulge in all things yummy over Christmas. I especially enjoyed getting stuck into this delightful pudding....

I was also treated to a couple of pre Christmas items by the husband, and I have to say the Homemaker magazine, which I hadn't read before is great, with lots of inspiration....

When it came to pretty prezzies there was of course a little of my favorite pink in there....

The little phone holder gadget is great, and as for those pretty pink swallows I have had my eye on them for ages and were a lovely extra treat over Christmas from Mr. P, he knows me so well. Of course getting pretty prezzies is lovely but I truly believe in Christmas being all about this and what Christmas means to me....

When I woke up today I felt very grateful for what I have, the people around me who inspire me daily and I loved doing this very sweet and quick little project....

I love it's simple look and I knew those vintage scrabble letters would be put to good use one day. I just adore the wrapping paper I have used for the back ground, infact I wish it was a wallpaper. It is available here at one of my most favorite online places to shop for pretty things. Actually as I had some Christmas money I couldn't help but spend a little in dotcomgiftshop's fantastic SALE Ha ha I warn you though, you may be there some time, I can't wait for my order to arrive, I grabbed some real bargains. Can you tell I need more reminding on my collection of pretty things ;) I am also hoping on doing a little homemade project each week and rather than resolutions I plan to have these little hopes and wishes for the new year, they shall be going in here to remind me....

One wish is that I curb my enthusiasm for collecting pretty things I don't really need but love. I think I need to keep reminding myself of this judging on my little shopping expedition yesterday, I just can't help it. I really can hear them say "Buy me, Buy me"....

It also looks like Master Poppins is becoming more and more like me every day. I love the pretty objests he chose for himself and with his own pocket money. What fine taste I say....

I'm also trying to get more crafting done this year, and am hoping to get a little blog going specifically for all my crafty projects and news....

So this year my motto shall indeed be as usual....

Miss. Poppins gets allocated her secondary school soon and we are all waiting in anticipation, as there are many schools in the pot as it were. I am so proud of her. She is growing up so fast, right in front of my eyes, we even share the same show size now too, which is always handy. For me or her? I can't quite work out yet ;)

So, this year I shall carry on with the journey of following my dreams, and I sincerely wish you all the best health and happiness for 2013....

Warner Bros Film Review Round Up....

Well its that time of year that many of us feel like snuggling up with a soft blanket, and a creamy hot chocolate in hand to watch a DVD or two. It is actually three in this case as Warner Bros sent us 3 films to watch. Three great choices to watch this Christmas time....

First up was New Year's Eve, which in my opinion is a great DVD to watch during this festive time.

"New Year's Eve celebrates love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and fresh starts in the intertwining stories told amidst the pulse and promise of New York City on the most dazzling night of the year." --(C) Warner Bros.

Basically it follows the lives and relationships of many on News Year's Eve and although there were quite a lot of different story lines and plots to follow, I did just about keep up. I would say it is possibly an attempt at Love actually, that perhaps doesn't quite make it but enjoyable for me all the same. Its a very girly movie in my opinion, and has quite some stars in it, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Halle Berry, Ashton Kutcher, Robert De Niro, and Jon Bon Jovi to mention just a few. I would describe it as a feel good, romantic movie, entertaining and a perfect Sunday morning watch.

Next up was The Dark Knight Rises....

Not being a big fan of super hero films, I decided to give this a go and it was, it has to be said quite a production. An action packed and entertaining film, with some great visuals. With Christian Bale adding emotional depth as Batman and Michael Cain giving a fantastic performance I was drawn into the story and plot line of this dynamic film. Despite his tarnished reputation after the events in the Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent's crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with Bane's plans to destroy the City. There is a lot of suspense that keeps this film exciting and with many a twist and turn. Its quite a long film though I was kept entertained throughout. I would definitely recommend this as one to watch.

Finally we have the children's film, which they (and I) loved. The Polar Express is a wonderful film to watch at Christmas....

It begins with a doubting boy and a group of other young children who board a magical train on Christmas Eve, that is heading towards The north Pole and the home of Santa Claus.. What unfolds is an adventure which the boy, during his magical ride, embarks on a journey of self discovery and shows him the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. We all snuggled up on the sofa for this one and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the sort of film that got us all in the Christmas spirit and re affirmed our faith in Christmas. I felt the CGI was used well to capture the feel and essence of the film and made the film what it was. The scenery was just gorgeous and Tom hanks as the conductor who tells the boy, "The true meaning of Christmas is in your heart." was great as the character. Definitely a magical film to watch, especially at Christmas and Master Poppins has watched it about 4 times already, he loves it :)

A Charity Shop Girl At Heart....

" It is not important what is under the Christmas tree, but the people who are around it...."

....However Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without giving a little gift or two and this Christmas I really wanted to put a lot of thought in finding gifts for my loved ones. Sometimes I really can't believe how much money is spent at Christmas, often it seems the more money is spent on someone the more we must care. Of course this is not the case and for many, who like me, simply can't afford to spend hundreds of pounds on gifts at Christmas, I like to moochy around the charity shops. I really enjoy thinking of what that person may like and so many times have found the perfect gift for a loved on in a charity shop. you just never know what you may find in there....

Oh how I loved this. Perfect for Master Poppins who shall have hours of fun with these ever so retro pocket binoculars which I think were made in Japan, and from the 60's....

He shall absolutely love these binoculars, and I think an utter bargain for £. I can't wait for him to view the world through them. As for my next charity shop fine, I can only give a peeky as I wouldn't want someone to spy it before the big day. I adored it as soon as I saw it and I knew would be the perfect gift for somone special. Hopefully she shall fall in love with it like I did....

I couldn't help but pick up a Christmas pretty or two along the way. As I have somewhat of a silver theme going on with the tree this year, I loved these NOEL decorations, 4 for £1....

They really do go so nicely with the rest of the tree....

My humour really knows know bounds as I just HAD to have this kitsch gnome that makes a little 'noise' when one walks past it. Well worth the £1.95 price for all the laughter we've had already. This is going to be a special treat for a person who I know shall really appreciate it ;)

And for you to appreciate it, I think you need to have a listen ;)

How the children and I managed not to giggle away I don't know....

Now this little £3.95 charity shop number may not look like the kind of gift one would like to unwrap on Christmas day....

Not my usual pretty little number huh, but kinda cute. He is actually an original, handmade in Norway Ny Form Troll, which being the Speed Skater troll, has now been discontinued. You can read about the trolls here if you fancy. It was actually Miss.Poppins who spied this one in the charity shop as she thought was a bit of a bargain and knew the original trolls, especially the discontinued ones could fetch a bit. Think I'll take her every time we go troll hunting....

Ah, I think he has rather grown me and have thought of the perfect person he can go to for Christmas. They apparently bring good luck too, so actually I think quite a sweet, unique gift and he still has his original label....

There really is something quite special in my opinion of having a vintage Christmas. I think it is perhaps the nostalgia of it all and I just love helping myself to a choccy or two served in a pretty vintage dish....

So bring on the Sinatra....

And gather those we love around the table to remember days gone by....

It's Beginning to Feel A Lot Like....

....CHRISTMAS.

Finally, after some days of feeling under the weather, poorly and generally not feeling like doing anything, I found the energy to begin the decoration of the tree. I find Christmas a really cheery time and love looking at everyone's pretty decorations and the twinkling lights on trees always bring a smile to my face. This year I have stepped away from my normal traditional red/white look and gone for a somewhat silver look. I thought it would have a cold feel to it but actually I really, really like it. When we got tree #2 (long story, tree #1 didn't quite work out) in its little stand with water and stretched out the branches, it was time to get the decorations out. I am really happy with the look....

The silver aspect rather than giving a cold feel, actually looks very pretty and there is certainly enough sparkle on there. The Poundland butterflies are perfect and so easy to just clip on....

Decorations I already had from over the years also suit the look....

It did feel strange though leaving off all my red decorations, but I have dotted some of favorite ones around the house so they can still be admired. I think this little Bonne Mamon jar I had and popped some candy canes in looks cute. The ribbon I glued on creates a special Christmas touch....

I had bought these 12 baubles a while ago from the charity shop for £1, they are beautifully vintage, and so pretty I had to photograph them twice. I cant wait to get them on the tree....

So until I am feeling a bit more with it, and can finish all of it off with the children, we kind of have a 3/4 decorated tree, but I think looks good for now...

Nearly there....

A little while ago the children were sent this Splitster Stunt Car to have a play with and see what they thought. It's a great little stunt car with a cool tumbling and spinning action that provides hours of fun for children....

The wheels light up giving a great effect and it even stands up and spins on the top. It flips, bounces and in my opinion is a great product for both boys and girls. It is operated by remote control with a rechargeable battery and the levers were pretty straight forward for my children to use on the controls. The wheels are actually quite soft so no real damage can be done indoors, but I would defiantly recommend this for outdoor play to get a real feel for what the stunt car can do. Anyway here it is in action....

All in all a super little stunt car, that provided my little Poppins with some great entertainment and I of course couldn't resist having a little go ;) The Splitster is available from Amazon and is priced at £19.99.

Inspiring Hallmark Advent Calender....

With Christmas advent calenders being eagerly opened each day here by my little Poppins, I thought I would share a very special advent calender that I love to take my own little peek at each day too. It has been created by Hallmark and is a great advent calender to help inspire you over Christmas....

The calender, which you can find here has some great tips and many a little project on offer, as each day until Christmas Eve a magical window opens to reveal ideas such as seasonal recipes, handmade gift ideas, and even Christmas make-up tips. I gather the little project behind the magical window on December 13th is going to a be a sweet little one, and yes is provided by my very self ;) Of course I don't want to give too much away, other than say if you love a pink Christmas (like I do) you shall hopefully likey :)

I myself am looking forward to popping back there tomorrow to see what the next little inspirational treat is up on offer :)

Christmas At Poundland!....

Oh my, where is the time going? I think my real life 'to do' lists are stretching sooooo long that blogging has taken a bit of a back seat of late. Especially at this time of year I really love reading other people's festive blog posts near Christmas so am hoping to get my Christmas blogging hat on. Talking of Christmas, a little while ago Poundland who have a blog were inviting customers to apply and offer their services to become a Poundland Ambassador. Well I couldn't resist applying, especially as I have purchased many a pretty and useful item from Poundland and indeed is a store where many a bargain can be found. Soon I was told that I was to become one of their Ambassadors and I was to take part in monthly challenges to share my experiences of the store, goods purchased, and general customer service. My children like it there too, and I occasionally offer them a little pocket money to pop in and choose some £1 items. I wanted to include them very much in these challenges.

Here are all the ambassadors involved....

This months challenge was of course focused on Christmas and we were to purchase items from many of their different ranges on offer. So with a £20 gift voucher in my purse I made my way to the store for this months Christmas challenge. I was to pick at least two Christmas inspired items from these Poundland ranges....

The two extra items left over could be purchased from any of the ranges. Of course the children wanted to head straight over to the sweet isle ;)

Well they had to pick Santa didn't they ;)

Then it was on to Christmas wrapping and accessories. These cute, vintage inspired labels caught my eye and in the basket they went....

I must have chosen wisely as later on that evening whilst reading one of my house-y magazines, there they were as a top item to buy this Christmas....

I also picked out some pretty Christmas ribbon and bows that I knew would coordinate nicely with my Christmas wrapping paper already purchased....

Christmas gifts chosen for the adults were this pretty trinket box and iphone cover....

I chose the cute Christmas stocking fillers for the children as a surprise, I just loved the cute light up brooches....

Next up it was beauty and clothing. I am finding in this bitterly cold weather my hands need a bit of tlc so chose something to make those hands of mine look as best they can at Christmas festivities....

We had great fun picking decorations for the tree and these beautiful butterflies came away with us...

I am going a little different this year and where normally I would opt for a red/green/gold traditional theme for our tree, I am going very girly and colourful. So lots of pinks, blues, silvers and I can't wait to get decorating the tree that we purchased over the weekend. For general decorations we decided to include our two extra's as well, so our 4 items were this cute little snowman decoration....

Oh we love him and I have seen very similar items in other stores that cost much more than a pound. Then Miss. Poppins wanted a little Chrismas tree for by her bed and when she saw this one for a £1 she knew it would be perfect. She can't wait to get decorating it....

She also saw these cute dog window stickers, how could I say no. TOO CUTE....

Our final choice from the general range was one I picked and I thought would go perfectly with my colourful and girly theme this year....

I love a pretty table at christmas and I do like a traditional feel to it, so from their table wear range I opted for 2 of these charger plates in a lovely Christmas red....(more were indeed bought by myself)

For our final 2 items from homeware, we picked a useful roaster tray and some festive tea towels....

So in my opinion we chose a really good variety of Christmas items and I think a great Christmas stash for only £20....

I am really pleased with the items and so far the quality is really good. The shopping experience itself was quite fun, and staff were helpful when I asked about their different ranges etc. Some may point their nose up a little at 'bargain stores' such as Poundland and the like, but as we all know, money doesn't grow on tress and I for one am never shy of hunting out that next bargain ;) They also have a great Pinterest page that can be found here
