Social media make it easier for us to stay up to date with our past or future crushes.I can't speak for everyone who stalks online, I'm only speaking for myself. This is how I stalk my crushes.

Our Favorite and Least Favorite College Memories

2016-01-18T15:57:00.000-06:00

They were the best of times and they were the worst of times. That pretty much sums up our college experience thus far. It's not as wild and crazy like all those movies made us think it'd be, but it wasn't always an easy road either. Shannah and I wanted to share our some of our favorite and worst parts our college life with you thus far.

Favorite
Getting out of the country was the best thing that's happened to me. It really made me realize I don't have to be stuck in one place forever. And I met some amazing people and saw some amazing things.

Pictures of New York and a Boston bakery

Before I flew off to Korea, one of my best friends and I took a two week tour of the east coast. We tried to make it educational by touring colleges, but honestly we just wanted to see the sights.

I began writing for my school's newspaper, The AUMnibus, during my sophomore year in college and have been writing there ever since. It's a great feeling to see your work actually be printed and published online for everyone to see.

Picture with BigBang's guitarists outside the concert

Seeing BigBang in concert was amazing and I ended up meeting some pretty amazing women through the trip.

Getting a car. I spent a good amount of time taking and missing the bus to get to my classes, which sucked because I had to wake up at least two hours before school to ready and wait on the bus. But then I bought a car which quickly eliminated all of the waiting.

Least favorites

Getting a car. I know I listed this in favorites, but the car was a lemon. I felt like I got sucked into buying it and I wasted lots of money fixing it up. I could have payed off a semester of school for all the money that thing cost me.

I worked a lot during college. I had to. That's not a bad thing in itself, but I allowed my work to consume valuable time I could have taken to spend with friends and family. I now know how to balance work and life a lot better now and I won't let work take me over me like that again.

Favorites
Movie Nights were always a favorite memory in college. At my University there is $1 movie night, which allows me to see any movie in the theater for $1. $1 movie nights were only offered the first and third Wednesday of each months. Last year I went to every movie night.

Living in an Apartment. It's always great to have my own room and bathroom. I just love the privacy.

Dinner Nights
Sometimes my friends will have dinner nights at their apartment which were always fun.

Going to college football and basketball games were also a highlight from my college experience
.

Least

Being alone.
It seems like the older I got the more alone I was in college. One of my old roommate said it best "you can always tell a freshman from a senior, freshman usually come in packs, while seniors usually walk alone."

College Food.

The food is okay at times, but whenever the dining hall doesn't have a great dinner, I'm usually stuck eating a burger or pizza.

Where the Hell Do I Get Experience?!?

2016-01-15T13:50:00.000-06:00

"I'm sorry, but you do not have enough experience for this position ." This sentence is probably the most frustrating thing to hear while job searching -especially for current college students or recent grads looking for a job. How are we supposed to get a job if you need experience, but can't get any experience because we're too inexperienced to hire? It's a frustrating paradox many of us have and will encounter during the job search. That's why I've found a few leads on to get you that coveted experience.

Rework your résumé

You may actually have the experience you need, but may not have worded it correctly on your résumé. Instead of saying you worked the cashier at your retail job, elaborate to show the leadership, management, and customer service skills you exhibited during the job. If you're a little stuck on how to write it all out, take a look at the job description of your current/past position to help you with the wording.

Go for Another Position

You may not qualify for the position you want, but is there another one in the company that you can take up that will give that experience? Or another that will put the skills you possess to good use? Check the company's openings to see what other positions are available that fit closer to the skills you currently possess. If you're hired on, you can ask to receive training in that area in the future.

Meet Traveling Sam Kay

2015-11-30T09:46:00.000-06:00

(I want to introduce you all to Sam of Traveling Sam Kay. I met this woman last year in Korea and knew she was an awesome person, but only recently found out about her amazing blogging skills. She writes about her time as a teacher in South Korea and is sharing her travel experience here. Enjoy! - Tara)

When I was a little girl, I remember very specifically asking my mother why we lived in the United States. My parents had friends who lived overseas. These people enchanted me with gifts from afar and stories of things I couldn't imagine existed. But, I guess I didn't know much existed outside of my home city. I was obsessed with the prospect of adventures abroad. I would make elaborate plans for my future and all of the places I would travel, always receiving an endearing eyeroll and words of encouragement from my parents. Travel became a goal of mine. And I knew that if I was going to do it, it would have to be on my own. So, when I was 17, I found a way.

When I was 17, I made the declaration to my parents that the following summer, I would be going abroad. They sighed in a sort of "yeah, right" way, but told me that if I could find a way to do it, I should. And so, as a motivated person does, I did. I found a volunteer group that would take me to Hong Kong. At age 18, I went half way across the world with a group of strangers, and I fell in love.

My goal then shifted from simply travel to living abroad. I wanted to make a life for myself in a place I didn't belong. Walking the streets of Hong Kong, feeling completely engulfed in a new culture was a sensation I was willing to chase as far as it would take me. I ventured on to college and began life studying International Politics. I made mental lists of all the places I wanted to live. My goals became greater and more solidified, and my lust for adventure only grew.

Of course, I studied abroad. In my opinion, every person should. Due to various circumstances, I was led to Ulsan University's Ulsan International Program. In the summer of 2014, when I got on that plane to South Korea, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I didn't know anything about Korean culture or language. I hadn't heard of the city of Ulsan. But more than anything, I completely underestimated how that experience would change my life.

I can confidently say that the time I spent in the Ulsan International Program is one of the best times of my life. I spent the summer traveling around Korea with a group of equally as curious people, having adventures so crazy and experiences so growing that my life was deeply impacted.

That's the thing about travel, though. It can be expensive or scary or overwhelming. But the reward that comes from that risk is greater than anything a person can buy. Those memories and the impact made in your life, and the impact that you can make in the lives of others, is something that can never be taken away from you.

Dancing on the street with a random Chinese lady in Kowloon. Busking in a park in Macau on a Sunday morning. Staying out all night in Itaewon. I often think of the millions of memories I've made on the adventures I've had and my heart feels incredibly full.

I am now 22, and my dream has come true. I am an English teacher in Ulsan, South Korea. The process to get here wasn't easy, but it was absolutely worth it. Everyday is an adventure for me. Even if all I do is go to work, go to the grocery store, and go home in a day, I have still had an amazing and growing cultural experience. It's not perfect. Being away from home is hard. But just as they did when I was a young girl, my family is supportive of my goals and proud that I have already achieved so much.

I often walk around my neighborhood, and bask is amazement at where I am. The risks have been immense, but the reward has been greater. Because the thing I am given everyday is something I will treasure the rest of my life. The adventure that I am on is great, and I cannot wait to see where it takes me next.

Sam graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Political Science and International studies, is now a Guest English Teacher with the EPIK program in Ulsan, South Korea. You can read more about Sam and her adventures abroad on her blog Travelling Sam Kay.

The Worker's Guide to Black Friday

2015-11-26T12:40:00.000-06:00

This time last year I was fuming because I knew I would be missing half my Thanksgiving day working behind a register. This time I'll be with my family, but I still feel bad for the workers all over spending their time serving others. I'm sending you all virtual hugs and kisses as well as this advice on how to handle one of the most hectic days of the year for retail workers.hb

Be Well Rested

I know some of you are already going to be tired from Thanksgiving parades and even early Thanksgiving lunch since you'll be missing out on dinner, but be sure you're well rested to start the day. Nothing is going to stop this day from being a never ending slaughter of deal seeking customers and you'll want to have enough energy to put up with it all.

Let's be thankful 2015

2015-11-26T12:00:00.002-06:00

Tara Simone

There have been a lot of changes in my life in the past year and I'm honestly thankful for all of them. But these are the ones I'm most thankful for.

New Kid on the Block

My little man has been my a source of pride, joy, and frustration in the past year. I knew I wanted to be a mom, but I never knew it would be this soon.

Going Back to Cali

I was almost two years old when my mom packed up everything and moved to San Bernardino, Ca. Now almost 20 years later I'm back in Cali with my own family. I'm happy to be here and am curious to see what opportunities will come my way.

New sites

I have my own website now! I'll be blogging about my mommy adventures, needy obsessions, and just anything else I want at The Borderline Blerd.

Our followers
Were so happy that you guys have stuck with us for so long and we're planning to make this blog better for you all. We would not be here if it were not for you.

Shannah

This year has been amazing for me. My emotions have been up and down throughout this year, but everything turned out good. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm going to be alright *Kendrick Lamar voice*. Here are a few things I'm thankful for this year.

My health

Sometimes, I forget how wonderful it is to be healthy. I'm glad that I'm in the physical shape to accomplish all that I want. I'm also thankful for my family's health as well. I want my family to see me succeed.

Family

I'm happy to have both my parents in my life. I love spending time with them. I know I shouldn't say this, but they really are my best friends. I don't have many friends, but I'm thankful to have a good relationship with them.

Having a house, car, etc.

I know it's a no no to put material things down, but I have to be thankful for it,because many people don't have a home or car. So, I'm thankful that I have a roof over my head, food to eat, a car to drive me to all the places I want to go.

Lastly, I'm thankful for all the No's

This past year was tough for me because I've focus a lot on all the things I didn't have, but I'm learning to be thankful for all the No's I've receive. This time next year, I hope I can take rejection a whole lot better.

How Not to be a JERK on Black Friday

2015-11-23T17:06:00.000-06:00

(*originally published November 2014, this post has been updated with more tips and sass)

While everyone is preparing for Black Friday sales and stuffing themselves with turkey, retail workers everywhere have to rip themselves from family and friends and work behind the register today. Sadly, this year I am going to be one of them. Again. Of course not working on Thanksgiving or Black Friday isn't always bad, but there are a few things shoppers can do to make these next few days a little better.

How to Improve Your Second Language

2015-11-20T10:00:00.000-06:00

Most of us were required to take up a second language to complete our degree. It may not have been your favorite class to attend, but what you learned there is worth way more than just a degree requirement. Knowing a second language not only looks good on a resume, but can open the door to new experiences and opportunities that you'd never have without it. So instead of letting that new language go to waste, follow our tips to keep it in use. Besides, why would you waste all that time and money to just throw it away?

screen cap of Duolingo

Language Apps

Becoming a pro at your new tongue could all lie within the palm of your hand. There are amazing apps out there that help you learn and use a language you picked up. Apps like Duolingo and Babble are great ways to start learning a new language. Just go to the app store, download them, and use the apps to brush up.

Immersion Programs

Being in an immersion program kind of forces you to throw away your fears and use your new language. There are many different ways you can go through an immersion experience such as going through immersion camp or enrolling in a program at a university. This may be the most "extreme" way to learn a language, but you'll definitely come out with more confidence and skills in the end.

7 Ways You Can Work Abroad

2015-11-02T14:08:00.000-06:00

Original Photo by Cristian Baron

Traveling outside of the country is one of the top things to do in your lifetime, but one some of us don't get to do. Instead of waiting for your honeymoon or a cruise ship, here are a few different ways you can go abroad.

Learning Abroad
Studying abroad is the most traditional and well known way of traveling abroad for students, but you don't just have to go through your school to do it. There are a lot of exciting learning programs you can enroll into if you take the time to do a little research to find them. Whether or not these can go towards school credit is between you and your school, but there is no doubt that you'll get a lot out of it.

Volunteering

Using your time, skills, and talents to help an international community grow or improve is another great way. Organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Global Vision International, and many more offer programs to build homes, teaching women empowerment, and among other things.

Halloween Fun with Fanta

2015-10-30T11:16:00.000-05:00

I look great as a mummy

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Fanta Freaky Foto Booth for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Kid stole my look!

Halloween is just 24 hours away and we're super excited to get the day started! I’m not really decided exactly what I’ll be doing tomorrow night, but if I have any say it’ll be rocking out in downtown San Diego’s night clubs. Unfortunately we haven't been able to find someone to relieve us of baby duty. We might just end watching a few films at home and ~~eating~~ passing out candy. Guess this is the start of domesticated life.

Whether you're hitting the club or staying in for a night of horror movies, be sure to stack up your
favorite snacks at your local 7-Eleven. You can fill up a few candy bars yourself and grab a bottle of Fanta to drown it all down (it’s okay. Halloween is international cheat night!)

The best flavor tbh

Fantas are the perfect drink for Halloween with their wide range of flavors and colors. And they want to make the night even more fun with their Fanta Freaky Foto Booth,

You may already have your costume picked for the night, but this little app lets you have a little fun with different costumes. You can choose to be anything you want to be from a sorceress to robot and more. So remember to give yourself a nice treat for the night and have fun with the foto app.

Let's Talk About The P Word (Period)

2015-10-07T11:30:00.000-05:00

Time to talk about the P word. Our period is something we wish we could live without, but sadly we're stuck with it. One thing a guy will never understand is what women go through during the time of the month. Last year in college I was so lucky because my period always came on during the weekend. I know some of you think of that as a bad thing, but I'd rather my period come on during the weekend while I'm at home than come on while I'm in the middle of a presentation or on a Monday. One of my worst period moments was two years ago.

So What's Good? Fall TV Show Reviews

2015-09-28T13:16:00.000-05:00

Fall is officially here and the new change of weather brings us new shows and returns of others. I was able to binge on a couple of premieres and returns last week thanks to Hulu, and wanted to share what I thought . Be warned, spoilers may appear in the upcoming summaries, so proceed with caution.

Scream Queens (Tuesday 9/8, FOX)

Someone described this show perfectly as a mix between Pretty Little Liars and American Horror Story. It revolves around a sorority that is being targeted by a devil mask wearing villain who is killing them off one by one. The two hour premiere featured celebs Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas, and has KeKe Palmer and Jamie Lee Curtis as regulars So with four of my faves in the premiere, you'd think I love the show right?

Dreams Deferred: When Your Dream School is Out of Reach

2015-09-25T11:04:00.000-05:00

If you had asked me what death was in junior high, it would have been staying in Montgomery my whole life. Actually it's a well known fact among my generation and the one before us. My high school economics teacher even urged us all to gt out as soon as we could so we wouldn't be trapped here for the rest of our lives like he and others had been. Not that Montgomery is the worst city ever. It's filled with historical significance and great food, but everyone knows that the city is a dead zone for anyone looking to thrive in the arts. So when I discovered SCAD -Savannah College of Art and Design- I knew that this would be my one way ticket out. SCAD would be thriving with creative people, in a big city, and the Atlanta campus was only 2 hours away from home. So you can imagine my excitement when I opened my inbox one night and saw a
"Congratulations!" email from SCAD.

I literally cried. I had actually gotten in!

Hottie on The Look Out: O'shea Jackson Jr.

2015-09-14T12:00:00.000-05:00

Tumblr

O'shea Jackson Jr., or as his fans call him O'Bae is the latest hottie on the look out. "O'shea, won't you swing my way?" Who would have thought Ice Cube's son would have been super cute? Don't get me wrong, Ice Cube isn't a bad looking man. Heck my roommate thinks the three moles on Ice Cube's face are super sexy. Let's take a moment and enjoy the offspring of Ice Cube.

How to Fund a Study Abroad Trip

2015-09-12T15:18:00.000-05:00

Do you find yourself constantly dreaming of exploring faraway lands? Have you been browsing your school's study abroad catalog, dreaming of going away, but fearing the price? Don't let the big price of studying abroad turn you away. There are plenty of ways to turn your wanderlust dreams into a reality. I'll share some of the tips I used to raise money for my own trip abroad as well other ways you can use to help pay for your trip.

Start Saving NOW

This is a no brainer for anyone working up towards a big financial goal. Make sure you set aside a percentage of your paycheck or any other money you receive towards saving for your trip. This money will build over time and can put a dent into expenses. If you currently don't have a paying job, this is the perfect time to look for one.

Look for Scholarships

There are national and international organizations are dedicated to help young travel enthusiasts explore the world. Some of these are specific to certain schools or towards certain countries/regions, but finding one that works for you could mean some extra money towards your trip. Also, check with your university to see if there are any scholarships available to students studying abroad. I applied to a study abroad scholarship at my university and earned $500 towards my trip.

If These Male Celebrities Went To College

2015-09-10T11:01:00.000-05:00

I have a huge imagination. This imagination is one perk of being the only child. One day I was thinking about celebrities and what type of person they would be if they attended college with me. Here is my take on the type of college students some of these guys would be.

The Weeknd

Tumblr

Lately, I've been obsessing over The Weeknd. If The Weeknd went to college, I would notice his hair before his face. (Side note: There is a guy that currently attends my University that has the exact same hairstyle as The Weeknd.) Anyway, The Weeknd would smoke pot in his filthy dorm room.

Senior Reflections: Lost Opportunities in College

2015-09-05T12:14:00.000-05:00

I honestly can't believe I'm in my senior year! Time has gone by so quickly I can hardly believe it's almost over. With the end so near, my thoughts have been on how I've spent my time in college and things I wish I had done.

Working too much

I had to work to keep up with expenses, but I didn't have to work as hard as I did. At one point I was juggling two jobs, a full class load, clubs, and blogging at the same time.I always put my work first, and would never have the guts to reserve days for personal time. This caused a little bit of strife in my LDR because I never took off time to see my boyfriend. Last minute getaways with friends were unheard of (I actually passed up a chance to see Katy Perry for free because of work). I now take time for me and freely ask for a few days off, but I still can't get those days back.

3 Money Traps to Avoid in College

2015-08-26T11:56:00.000-05:00

One of the biggest responsibilities you have in college is being able to manage your expenses. This is when your credit starts and everyone wants a piece of your wallet. There will be a lot of temptation while in college, but here are the three biggest things you'll have watch out for while in college.

Credit cards

You probably started getting these as soon as you turned 18, but these little plastic cards can cause you to end up in big debt. If you know you're not ready for a card just yet but still get pesky offers in the mail, contact the credit card company and ask them they remove you from their list. If you do have a credit card, the easiest thing to remember is to never go over your limit. You know what you can realistically pay for a month and you should keep that number in mind before you swipe your card. Also, be sure to make your payments on time and never go over your spending limit.

Loans

This is the most evil and most unavoidable one of them all. Most college students today can't attend college without getting a loan, and will have a wall of debt waiting for them when they graduate. Only take out what you need to pay for school, and be sure to keep up with your interest rates and who your lender is. If you ha e a federal loan, remember you can signify how much of your loan you need want to take put if what you have been awarded exceeds cost.

Not Saving

One problem with money is not saving it,which can be hard for those of us with more month at the end of our money. Making small changes now with little income will help you along the way in the long run. For Instance, cutting out a weekly habit like going to the club or buying a drink for lunch could save you a few dollars a week you can put towards saving. Setting up an automatic monthly transfer from your checking account to your savings account will also help you save overtime. Other options are to bring back the piggy bank from childhood and dump your spare change in everyday. My husband did this and ended up saving a few hundred dollars this way. Savings are great to have, because they'll always be there for a rainy day or when your car breaks down. It will also help you reach some goals like traveling for a vacation, or building up to a deposit on a new home or car.

These money traps can sometimes be easy to fall into, but can be easily avoided with the proper precautions. What other money downfalls have you been faced with in college?

Best Ways To Spend Your College Refund

2015-08-21T06:30:00.000-05:00

Tumblr

Receiving a college refund is one thing college students look forward to. It's nice to roll over in a cash pit of new money. One thing exciting about the start of a new semester is the start of a new college refund. Here is a list of things to buy with your college refund money.

Car

Tumblr

If you know someone who is selling a car for a cheap price, maybe you should risk it and buy one. There are always flyers of students selling cars around campus. Besides, you've always said you wanted a car, now could be the time to invest.

Where to Find Cheap and Free Textbooks

2015-08-14T06:46:00.000-05:00

If the tuition for college isn't killing you, then the cost of textbooks surely will. With some books running up to $600 and no guarantee you'll use it much in class, it's a good idea to find cheaper ways to buy your book. Here are a few resources you can use to get your books for free or cheap.

Don't Buy it

It's not uncommon to hear students say that they didn't even need to buy the textbook to pass the class. Usually in lecture classes, you can skip the cost of the textbook and rely on the notes given by the professor. Always ask your professor or former students how much of the class relies on the text, and you'll be able to see if you need to head to the bookstore or not. Checking out reviews on rating websites helps a lot as well.

We're Back!

2015-08-09T09:48:00.000-05:00

Hello world! Did you miss us? It seems like it's been forever since we last talked. Lately we've both been busy with our lives and dealing with school, so you can understand. The break was much needed. Having a blog is like writing in a diary everyday. At some point we all tried to have a diary, but couldn't keep up with it daily. How did Ginger from As Told By Ginger write so much in her diary? The weird part about not blogging were the questions from family and friends.

"What happened to your blog?"

"You should totally blog about this!"

"Why have you stopped blogging?"

In all this time we didn't think people cared about our blog. It surprised us when people were asking about the blog and suggesting things to blog about. Our blog is making a comeback bigger than Mariah Carey's Emancipation of Mimi album. Well maybe not that huge, but you get the point. Here is what we've been up to.

Shannah T.

I'm still having nightmares about spring semester. In my Public Relations campaign class we spent the whole semester working on a group project that was 90% of our grade. I swear that was so annoying. I've never been so glad to be done with a class. Needless to say I passed the class with an A. I've also did a little summer school which was fun. For a long time I was without a car, but I finally got my first car which feels weird because I never thought I would get a car so soon. I got the car last November, but I never blogged about it until now. I've recently moved into a new apartment, which is amazing. I love the big rooms. I'm crossing my fingers and praying that this is my last year in college. That's right, I will be graduating in May if everything goes as planned!

Okay, so I've made some huge leaps in the past year. I got married in October, had a baby in May, and moved to California in July. Add that in with continuing my last (God,I hope) year in college, things have been kinda hectic. I haven't blogged about it because I've been super busy trying to get my new life together and anytime I started an update in draft, I could never finish it. There are a lot of things I'm still trying to work out, but I'll keep you all updated on the progress. Anyway, I'm back on the wagon now and won't keep you so in the dark. So with that said, we apologize for our absence and hope you keep reading!
