Captain of the 1982 Brazillian World cup team, Scorates died on 4th December. Reading about it certainly was a great trip down the memory lane for me. A Birthday surprise!

I had my special day last week. A dear friend & his wife wanted to give me a pleasant surprise. So they got up early, traveled for more than 1/2 an hour, reached my home early to surprise me. But unfortunately I had left home very early. I had thought: let me clear some of my ever increasing workload and reach home early; and then enjoy a rare nice evening with my friends.
Unfortunately for me & my friends the whole thing ended in a fiasco.
But I just came across this wonderful news item from Denmark.

There is a bus company named Arriva which celebrates its employee's birthdays by surprising them in pleasant and novel ways. Watch this till the end & read this, if you can't believe it to be true! BTW like me; if you are wodering: What does 'Bedre Bustur' means ? It means 'Better bus tour' My best wishes to Mukhtar & Arriva!

Gordon Brown describes pensioner as a 'bigoted woman'

Gordon Brown has apologised after being caught on microphone describing a voter he had just spoken to in Rochdale as a "bigoted woman".

The comments were made after the conversation with Mrs Duffy which ended with him complimenting her and her family.

As he went to get into his car, Mr Brown told her: "Very nice to meet you, very nice to meet you."

Just the other day a friend mentioned about flamingoes in Navi Mumbai. Flamingoes have become quite regular visitors to Mumbai in last few years, but we have yet to learn how to generating tourism using them. Today I read news about a stork in a German village. A Blue Stork has been sighted in a German village and it is generating good income for the village!

BTW Here is an interesting British site about birds. They have lots of bird song audios, videos and links to a few live webcams.

I had skipped my prescribed medicines for 2 days. Being lazy & busy I had not found time to purchase the medicine. After attending a very lengthy meeting I had just finished eating some snacks and was at my desk trying to finish the backlog for the week. Then I felt few mild shocks / tremors; my fingers resting on keyboard were shaking a bit. I inquired with 2 of my colleagues whether they felt something unusual ? They both said "No". That made me worried, thinking that either I was too tired or something was wrong with me. But after a few minutes a colleague came to me saying that there is flash news about a minor earth quake. For a change, I was really relieved to know that I was not hallucinating but was more alert than my colleagues!

Now everybody talks about the Climate change, Global warming, Ozone depletion, ...
And we ordinary folks say it is a Global problem, what me a solitary powerless soul can do about it ?

Here is a simple real life story.

Abid Surti is a famous artist, cartoonist, writer. He writes in Gujrati & Hindi. His cartoon strip (in Dharmayug) on the character Dhabooji had a huge fan following.
Abid Surti who is now 70+ years old lives in the Meera Road suburb of Mumbai. He once read a Newspaper article about dripping taps ( faucets ). As per the article, the estimate of water wastage per tap is 1000 liters per month. Abid Surti decided to do something about it. He along with a couple of friends started a very simple program. They hired a plumber and started fixing dripping faucets free of charge. They only work on Sundays ( and only for 5 hours, not full day.) But the amount of water saved by them is really staggering.

I salute Abid Surti and his friends for their contribution.

So friends just look around, don't wait for World Leaders, politicians, ... etc to solve the problem. Find out what you can do and Act!
