Penyanyi remaja sensasi Indonesia, Farel Prayoga, 15, mencuri perhatian dengan melancarkan single terbaharunya berjudul Lemak Manis, sekali gus menandakan kemunculan rasmi beliau pada tahun 2025 dengan imej dan gaya muzik yang lebih matang.

Rakaman semula Lemak Manis merupakan hasil kerjasama pertama antara Malaysia dan Indonesia yang dibawakan secara eksklusif oleh Indigital Music.

Samsung Electronics has been leading display innovation for years — most notably by pioneering the company’s first commercialization of cadmium-free quantum dot materials. This groundbreaking technology has since become the cornerstone of achieving precise color reproduction and exceptional picture quality. Touted as the next-generation material, it has also drawn attention not just in the TV industry, but also in other sectors like medical devices and solar cells.

With the introduction of QLED TVs, Samsung has redefined the television landscape, integrating this innovative quantum dot technology into its products. By leveraging the properties of these ultra-fine quantum dots, QLED displays achieve a broader color gamut and higher brightness, elevating picture quality to levels that traditional LED TVs cannot match.

What sets Samsung QLED TVs apart from conventional LED TVs? Samsung Newsroom had the opportunity to meet with researchers Kevin Cha and Jang Nae-won from the Visual Display Business and disassemble a Samsung QLED TV to reveal the secrets behind its stunning performance — literally behind the screen.

1. Operating Module: The Brain of TV

1) Rear Cover

The back panel of a TV serves more than just a structural frame; it protects internal components and effectively manages heat. It houses speakers for audio support and facilitates easy device connections, improving the overall user experience.

2) Main PCB (Printed Circuit Board)

The main PCB acts as the brain of the TV, overseeing functions such as power supply, remote control reception and SmartThings connectivity. This critical component controls the entire system, ensuring the television operates smoothly.

3) TV Tuner

4) AI Processor

At the heart of the Samsung QLED TV is the Q4 AI Processor chip. This advanced component manages AI functionalities such as picture and audio optimization and AI assistants. By automatically adjusting both image and sound based on the surrounding environment, the AI processor makes the viewing experience more immersive.

5) Speakers

Speakers are more than simple output devices. With high-resolution audio and a room-filling sense of space, Samsung QLED TV speakers greatly enhance the viewing experience.

2. Panel

1) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Layer and Color Filter

The panel’s structure comprises several intriguing components. The liquid crystal layer and color filter are essential parts of the panel’s basic structure. The liquid crystal layer controls light passage, while the color filter separates colors and creates images at a pixel level. The PCB, which is attached to the panel, precisely controls each pixel, fine-tuning the image.

2) Optical Sheet

The optical sheet concentrates light from the backlight, ensuring a brighter and more uniform image across the display. By gathering light, it elevates the general brightness of the display.

3) QD (Quantum Dot) Layer

The next step reveals the QD layer — perhaps the most important core component of Samsung QLED TVs. The layer actually utilizes quantum dot materials to convert light sources. This ensures more precise and vibrant colors than conventional technologies, resulting in lifelike visuals. The QD materials in this layer are certified No-Cadmium, enabling safer quantum dot TVs that do not contain harmful substances.

4) Diffuser Plate

This diffuser plate scatters light emitted from the backlight and spreads it evenly across the panel to eliminate excessively bright spots and maintain natural illumination.

5) Blue LED Backlight

Samsung QLED TVs use a bright and efficient blue LED backlight. When paired with the QD layer, this backlight produces highly pure colors and achieves greater light efficiency than traditional white LEDs in standard LCD TVs, leading to enhanced overall luminance.

3. Three Key Requirements for a Real Quantum Dot TV

To qualify as a real quantum dot TV, three conditions must be met: the presence of a QD layer, sufficient quantum dot concentration and a blue backlight. Once a TV meets all three conditions, it can be considered a real quantum dot TV.

Samsung QLED TVs are the only models in the world to satisfy these criteria, earning the ‘Real Quantum Dot Display’ certification from TÜV Rheinland, a prominent international certification body based in Germany. This recognition underscores the excellence of Samsung’s QLED technology.

4. Striking Difference Between QLED and LCD

The differences between Samsung QLED and traditional LCD TVs are evident even to the naked eye but especially striking when measured with professional tools.

For Samsung QLED TVs, the wavelengths of red, green and blue colors exhibit narrow bandwidths and distinct peaks in their emission spectrum, resulting in meticulous color representation. Viewers can see natural visuals and exceptional picture quality with rich, deep colors.

In contrast, LCD TVs without QD layers display generally lower peaks, a wider bandwidth in green as well as multiple peaks in red, hindering accurate color reproduction. To compensate, these TVs often require multiple layers for color correction, ultimately reducing light efficiency.

The in-depth teardown reveals that Samsung QLED TVs are built with sophisticated technology that goes beyond basic explanations. Every component that manages light works in harmony, culminating in breathtaking image quality. The QD layer, in particular, significantly enhances the richness and vibrancy of colors. The intricate technology behind these displays makes a substantial difference in overall picture quality.

The creative spotlight shone bright this October as the Starlight Institute of Screen and Stage celebrated its official launch and open house at the Starlight Arena, Plaza 51.

Marking a new milestone for Malaysia’s next generation of filmmakers, performers, and storytellers, the institute aims to serve as a dynamic hub for creative education — bridging the gap between industry training and real-world production experience.

Guests, aspiring talents, and media partners were given an exclusive tour of the institute’s facilities, curriculum pathways, and upcoming mentorship opportunities under both the Performing for Camera Academy and the Screen & Stage Creative Department.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Andrew Teok, Chairman of Starlight; Kenny Piong, Managing Director of Starlight; Aaron Lim, CEO of Starlight; and Joseph Tan, Group Managing Director of Chek Hup (M) Sdn Bhd.

The event’s highlight was the announcement of an upcoming Malaysian feature film, Bola dan Impian, which tells the inspiring story of an underdog all-girl Under-18 football team rising from a small-town dream to the national championship.

Blending high-energy sports drama with heartfelt storytelling, Bola dan Impian celebrates courage, teamwork, and the unyielding spirit of young Malaysians who dare to dream.

The film will introduce three rising stars — Seri Nur Adriana Elisa (18), Lucinda Lew Xin Yee (16), and Aarhthi Sivenesan (16) — discovered through the Project Starlight talent development program, supported by a cast of seasoned industry actors.

“We’re not just launching an academy — we’re building a bridge between education and professional film production,” shared Aaron Lim, CEO of Starlight Institute and producer of Bola dan Impian.

“This is where young talent gets to train, perform, and ultimately shine on screen.”

From over 100 submissions in the Project Starlight Audition 2025, 30 hopefuls were shortlisted, with only three ultimately selected for the film’s lead roles.

Aaron Lim also revealed that Bola dan Impian is a collaboration between Starlight Institute and Chek Hup, aimed at promoting Malaysia’s emerging stars across the Southeast Asian cinema landscape — in conjunction with FIFA 2026.

Founded in the mid-1900s in Ipoh, Chek Hup remains a symbol of local heritage, combining traditional Malaysian flavors with premium roasted coffee. To commemorate the partnership, a jersey signing ceremony was held between Aaron Lim and Joseph Tan.

The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Starlight Institute and its strategic education and industry partners:

IJN BECOMES FIRST IN SOUTHEAST ASIA TO IMPLANT DUAL-CHAMBER LEADLESS PACEMAKER

Was truly honoured to be invited to Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) to learn about them - Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) creating medical history by becoming the first medical centre in Southeast Asia to have successfully implant the world's first dualchamber leadless pacemaker system, the Abbott's AVEIR DR. Approved by the FDA in June 2023, AVEIR DR provides an innovative option to treat patients that suffer slow or irregular heart rhythms.

"IJN continues to set new standards for heart care in Malaysia and beyond. This new groundbreaking dual chamber leadless pacemaker will revolutionize care for our current patients and create a significant opportunity to expand the number of people we can serve.

This emerging trend of smart spending signals a new chapter in e-commerce: shoppers remain price-conscious, but they’re no longer buying blindly based on discounts alone. This was announced at the delegates’ sashing ceremony and press conference which was held at the Centrestage in Sungei Wang Plaza this evening.

For the first time, 36 contestants from the three (3) neighboring nations in the Malay Archipelago will compete on the same stage, vying for both national and regional glory – Malaysia and Singapore will be represented by 15 contestants each, while Indonesia will see the participation of 6 delegates.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, a fewer than the initial number of delegates will be representing Indonesia.

In mid-March 2025, Beam Artistes announced the candidates representing Malaysia and Singapore through their official social media platform, Instagram - @beamsearch.my & @beamsearch.sg ; while the candidates representing Indonesia were announced via @beamsearch.id.

Just prior to today’s arrival, some of the delegates from Indonesia were dealt with an unfortunate blow by a certain Indonesian agency, causing their dreams to be sacrificed. This unfortunate incident has resulted in a major drop in the number of participants from Indonesia. The organisers of MR NUSANTARA feels blessed that a small number of delegates still managed to make it here, to proudly represent their beloved country Indonesia despite facing external interference.

In his welcome address Samuel Seow, CEO of Beam Artistes & founder of MR NUSANTARA shared, “MR NUSANTARA is more than just a competition – it is a celebration of shared heritage and unity across the region. We are thrilled to bring together these three nations in a single spectacular event, showcasing the pride, talent, and spirit of the Malay Archipelago”.

The competition’s pageant week begins today with the arrival of all delegates in Kuala Lumpur and will conclude with the grand finals on 29th May 2025. It will be effectively run based on international pageant criteria.

From the 36 candidates, a delegate from each country will win the title as MR SINGAPORE NUSANTARA 2025, MR INDONESIA NUSANTARA 2025 & MR MALAYSIA NUSANTARA 2025.

These 3 titleholders will then battle it out through a thrilling twist in the competition, whereby the coveted title of MR NUSANTARA CHAMPION will be decided purely by online voting, making this the first pageant of its kind to fully empower fans in shaping the final outcome.

The stakes are high, as the winner of MR NUSANTARA will walk away with a prize package worth USD 80, 000 in cash and prizes, and which also includes a brand-new car.

The spirit of solidarity was palpable on Sunday morning as more than 500 participants gathered at Laman Astaka, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa for Walk-A-Payung 2025, a symbolic 3KM walkathon organised by Persatuan SLE Malaysia (PSLEM), in partnership with Faculty of Medicine & HCTM, UKM in conjunction with World Lupus Day.

Walking under umbrellas – a visual metaphor for protection against sun exposure, a major concern for lupus patients – participants showed their support for Malaysians living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

Since its debut in 2007, Walk-A-Payung has become a flagship awareness event for PSLEM, reflecting its long-standing commitment to empowering lupus warriors and advocating for their needs. It is estimated that 43 out of 100,000 autoimmune cases are affected by SLE.

“Lupus has no cure and can cause debilitating symptoms such as joint pain, organ damage, and extreme fatigue,” said Prof. Dr. Syahrul.

“These challenges often affect not just health, but also job security, financial stability, and mental wellbeing. Walk-A-Payung is one way we can create public awareness and foster a sense of community for those impacted by this disease.”

The event was officiated by Dato’ Dr Norsiah Binti Ali, Pengarah, Gred Jusa B (M), Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Syahrul Sazliyana Binti Shaharir, President of PSLEM and Consultant Rheumatologist at HCTM UKM. The morning began with an energising group Zumba session led by the Royal Fitness Squad from Universiti Malaya, followed by a ceremonial flag-off that marked the start of the 3KM walk.

The key highlight of the event was the official launch of iLawan Lupus: A Patient Dialogue Book on SLE, developed by AstraZeneca. The book captures real patient voices and narratives, offering a vital platform for advocacy, empathy, and greater understanding of the lupus journey.
