Gateway Brass, from the United States Air Force Band of the West will be presenting a concert at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on 19 February 2012, AT 2:30 PM This concert is FREE and open to the public.

Gateway Brass, the brass ensemble of the United States Air Force Band of the West, is stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The ensemble is comprised of two trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba, and percussion and is dedicated to presenting to its audiences the total spectrum of today’s musical literature.

The members of Gateway Brass bring to the United States Air Force many years of professional experience with symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, touring shows, and today’s popular artists. This group has been featured in performances at the New York Brass Conference and Boston University’s Tanglewood Music Center. Gateway Brass performs for civilian and military audiences throughout the southwestern region of the United States of America with a repertoire spanning five centuries.

Gateway Brass travels more than twenty thousand miles annually and appears in more than 100 concerts and clinics. The group performs at military ceremonies, conducts educational clinics, and presents entertaining community concerts throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, and New Mexico.

The bakery and café, aptly named,“Sugar and Smoke” brings to the table cleverly created dishes sourcing fresh, locally grown products representing the best Texas flavors and styles! On Saturday, February 11, Fest Nacht, formerly known as Fred's Party, unfolds beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, located on Highway 16 South. The theme for this year's costumed event is "Vegas, Baby!" Music will be provided by The Grooves, an Austin based dance band, which plays all styles of music. The event ends at midnight.

Tickets for Fest Nacht are $50 per person or $450 for a table of ten. Each guest is requested to bring adult beverages to share at the community bar and a monetary donation of your choice for the charities. Proceeds this year will benefit the Hill Country Needs Council, the Fredericksburg Food Pantry and PAWS (Pedernales Animal Welfare Society).

Now is the time to start getting set-up for the 32nd Annual Hug-In.

Saturday Night, February 11th the annual Valentine Ball will headline the one and only Gary P. Nunn at 8pm. Saturday ticket prices are: Event-$20 per person.

The hug-in was started in 1975 as a clean-up day that turned into a weekend campout for the volunteers. HUG-IN was dedicated to the memory of Luckenbach Camp Meister, Troy King, who was the official campground director at Luckenbach events. Troy King’s campfires were legendary and the legend continues in his absence. If the Valentine Ball on Saturday night is the heart of the HUG-IN, then the campfires are the soul – where music and merriment take place all weekend long!

Book Signing at Pioneer Museum - 1/28

Randy Rupley, local author and translator, will be signing his recently published book which is a translation of the novel by Friedrich Armand Strubberg, Fredericksburg (Fredericksburg: The Colony of the German Noblemen's Society in Texas) on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 10:00 A. M. until noon at the Pioneer Museum. Mr. Rupley is actively involved in translating German manuscripts into the English language.

You are invited to share a different perspective on the history of Fredericksburg in the 1850’s. Friedrich Armand Strubberg who was also known as Dr. Schubert first published the book written in German in 1867. Most of the stories concerning the adventurous life of this character are based on the sensational stories he wrote himself. They contain important eyewitness accounts of events as well as personal observations and his opinions. He may not be remembered as a great colonizer, but he certainly deserves to be remembered as a great novelist who wrote about the early activities in the Texas Hill Country.

His book is available for purchase at the Pioneer Museum Gift Shop at 325 W. Main Street.
