Design Challenge 2017 -- The Reveal!

Okay...Here it is...the big reveal of our Cousin Creative Circle Ambassador Design Challenge!

On March 6th, I told you guys about our 2017 design challenge we do as Cousin Corporation of America's Creative Circle Ambassadors. (See post here.) All of the ambassadors received the same package of beads, findings, charms, etc to create with. We were able to add in anything from our private stash of beads, charms, connectors, chains, etc to create unique pieces that fit our personality.

Our styles are so different from each other, yet we always seem to be able to create commonality with our pieces. I'm so excited to share our designs. You can click the above links to see what my creative sisters have come up with. Below you can find mine.

Ombré Plum Tassel Druzy Necklace

The items used in this necklace came from the new "Tassel it Yourself" line as well as the standard Jewelry Basics line CCA has.

This faux druzy didn't start out all sparkly. It was a dull, flat white. Very little shine to it at all. The druzy is a piece of acrylic resin that has been shaped to look like a druzy. I fell in love with a strand of ombré plum crystal beads and knew I wanted to do something fun with them. While I was painting my toe nails, I had this brilliant idea of using the glittery polish on the druzy piece. The color is "Salsa" and is made by China Glaze. It was the perfect fit for those lovely crystals.

I also removed the connecting clips from the druzy.

I had this lovely sort of pale copper colored chain that seemed to go well with with coloring around the faux druzy. I also had a lovely brown leather tassel from the same line as the faux druzy that I wanted to use as well. The only issue was the jump ring was silver. I needed gold. Not a big deal. I switched it out for a gold colored one to match the color scheme of the necklace.

I decided to use a short section of chain (four links long) to attach the druzy to the necklace instead of a standard jump ring just to be different.

I arranged the lovely crystals in a pleasing pattern and strung them on 19-strand jewelry wire with the chain sandwiched within the pattern and attached them to the chain. I didn't use a clasp since I used such a long piece of chain.

I created bead dangles out of some of the left over crystals and attached them to the bottom of the druzy.

The second project was another necklace using blue Calcite stones, brown ceramic beads, beaded link chain, a cross pendant, beaded tassel, polished cotton knotting cord and silver plated beads to create a lovely layered piece.

The Blue Jean Bohem Necklace

The blue Calcite is from the Boho line, the beaded link chain and tassel are from the Tassel it Yourself line, and the cross and ceramic beads are from Jewelry Basics.

I kept the Calcite strand to a choker length so add to the layered look.

The brown beads came strung on hemp so I attached fold over ribbon clamps to each end so I could create the necklace.

I took pieces of the polished cotton knotting cord and folded them in half then strung on the silver plated beads and secured the ends with more old over ribbon clamps. I attached the two together to form the second layer.

I added a jump ring to the cross connector and attached it to the beaded link chain. Again, I removed the connector clip from the tassel so I could attach it directly to the cross.

The end result is a gorgeously casual necklace that could very easily be worn with a dressy outfit as well.

Design Challenge 2017

Long time no post! I know....I've been very, very, busy.

Anywho! We have another design challenge coming up! The Creative Circle Ambassadors will be creating pieces using identical beads, findings, etc. Just like last year.

This year, our lovely Dawn Doucette picked for us ombré purple crystals, faux druzy stones, blue gemstones, silver and black spikes, rainbow colored jump rings, cross pendants, beaded chain, brown ceramic beads, and some stunning rainbow diamond cut crystals.

What will we all make of it all.....you will just have to wait and see!

Make It Monday DIY: Whimsical Memory Wire Ring Featuring Charms Made With Swarovski® Crystals

On Saturday, I posted a tutorial of a super cute ear cuff with a peacock feather charm. Today, I am showing you how to make a adorable beaded memory wire ring using more of charms made with Swarovski® Crystals from Cousin Corporation of America available exclusively from Michael's Craft Stores. There are links below for my fellow ambassadors' projects using these lovely little charms as well.

This ring is fun and easy to make, and it will become your favorite go to ring in no time.

Materials:
Ring Sized Memory Wire
11/0 Seed Beads (Yeah....tiny ones)
1 Sunshine Bumble Bee Charm (or charm of choice)

Tools:
Memory Wire Cutters
Memory Wire Finishing Pliers (I HIGHLY recommend these over round nose for this project)

Skill Level: Beginner

Craft Time: About 45 minutes

Instructions:
Separate three to four rounds of memory wire and cut in line with the end of the wire. Using the smallest part of the Memory Wire Finishing Pliers, form a loop at one of the ends of the memory wire.

Bead your wire in any pattern or solid color of your choice. I used TOHO Galvanized Silver, Starlight Galvanized Gold and Hematite for my Bee ring. Bead up until you have about a 1/4 of an inch of wire left and form your end loop the same as you did your beginning loop.

Attach your charm with the clip onto either one or both of the loops. If you want a more adjustable ring, clip the charm on only one of the loops.

Enjoy your new fun ring!

Weekend Whimsy DIY - Wire Ear Cuff the Interchangeable Charms

It's been some time since I have done a blog post. So, why not do a tutorial?

Today's tutorial is a super cute and trendy, easy to make spiral wire ear cuff with an adorable interchangeable charm. These charms are made with Swarovksi® crystals and are available exclusively from Michael's Craft Stores. These little beauties are put out by Cousin Corporation of America. The charms come in a variety of shapes such as bumble bees, flowers, hearts, owl, and even birthstone colors.

Cousin Corporation sent the us ambassadors a few of these charms to play around with. At the end of this tutorial are links to the other projects done by my fellow ambassadors.

I chose this lovely peacock feather charm to start with.

Materials:
1 Paradise Shine Peacock Feather Charm
20 gauge wire

Tools:
Ruler with both standard and metric measurements
Round Nose Pliers
Bail Making Pliers (optional)
Eye Protection

Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions:

Cut a 4 inch section of wire. Lay the wire against the metric side of the ruler, and measure 4 cm from one end of the wire. Bend the wire back over itself using round nose pliers.

Measure 3 cm from the bend and and then fold the other end of the wire over forming a "Z" shape.

Using your round nose pliers form a loose spiral on each tail end of the wire.

Wrap your form around the barrel of a pen or use the larger barrel of bail making pliers to curve the form into an ear cuff.

Slightly bend the back of the ear cuff inward slightly to grip the lobe.

Add your charm. These charms come complete with a little lobster claw clip and make it super easy to change out your charm to a different one. You can make your charm a permanent addition by using chain nose pliers to open the jump ring connecting the clip and the charm and removing the clip. Tighten the spiral at the bottom of the ear cuff so that it is not as open. Attach the charm using the jump ring and then close the jump ring. Personally, I like that I can change these out.

Be Mindful

"Be Mindful"

While at our annual Creative Circle Ambassador retreat this year, we were given a bracelet with the words "Be Mindful" stamped in it. I didn't think much of it at the time it was given, but I did appreciate the bracelet. Above every doorway in the Cousin building was a poster that had the same words, but had no clue as to what they meant. We had not given an explanation as to the meaning of this phrase when we were given the bracelets. At first, I found it rather odd, however, I think we were to interpret the words for what they meant to us. I began to think about the phrase "Be Mindful" throughout the day and into the evening. The next morning right after my devotional time, I began to pen out what those words were resounding in my spirit. So here is what those two words spoke to me.

What does "Be Mindful" mean? I have heard these words throughout my life in one form or another I am sure as we all have. "Mind your P's and Q's", "Think before you act" those sorts of things. But what does it actually mean? In what context are these words used? How can I apply their meaning?

Be Mindful:
of others
of my attitude
of my words
of my actions
of my surroundings
of myself
of the moments

Of Others:
As I am mindful of others, I take second place. I can lay aside selfish ambition for a great good - the good of others. It is not a detachment from my "reality" but rather an involvement in the reality of others. It is loving my neighbor as myself. It allows me to see the truth behind the motives of others and observe the true nature of their heart without a preconceived judgement on my part. It is to put myself in the other person's shoes and see from their perspective and not my own. It is to give grace, compassion, and mercy to others as it has been given to me. Being mindful of others re-centers us to a higher focus and a greater good. This one thing affects all the rest - attitude, actions, words, surroundings, ourselves and the moments.

Of My Attitude:
I have often heard it said, "your attitude determines your altitude". As I am mindful of my attitude, I can keep myself humble. It is with a lowly heart and a gentle spirit that I can see more clearly that which is more important than me. Sometimes, a little adjustment can bring a great increase. If I choose to take the higher ground instead of allowing my emotions and nasty attitude to take over, then I am the victor, not the victim. I can choose to fly free or to remain in bondage by my own attitude towards situations or people. I refuse to allow myself to be a slave even to my own selfish desires and motives. How I react to or act on a certain situation reflects the deeper nature of my own heart. If my attitude remains neutral or one of love, then my heart is pure. If my attitude stinks, then the truth of my heart is revealed as tainted by my own selfish desires.

Of My Words:
We have heard it said, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." This statement cannot be more wrong. Our words penetrate and wound deeper than any mere stick or stone ever could. The power of life and death is held within our tongues. Our words have the power to heal and uplift or they can be instruments of hurt and offense. Things we may say thinking nothing of them may hurt others. As I am mindful of my words, I can speak life instead of death, grace instead of judgement, comfort instead of pain. I choose not to speak corrupt communication so that the hearer of my words can be uplifted and encouraged and not made to feel less. When we speak our opinions about something or someone we know nothing about, then we are revealing the true attitude of our hearts. If we criticize that which we don't understand, then we reveal our own ignorance.

Of My Actions:
The old saying, "Actions speak louder than words" holds true. If I betray my words with my actions, then I have made myself a liar. If I say I love yet my actions show the truth of my hate, I have revealed the truth of what lies in my heart. I have proven myself to be double-minded in full view of the world. If I say I respect my boss but behind his back talk about him and run him down, then I am proving by my actions that really hate him by my words. Our actions will reveal our hearts and motives when our words never will. I can show that I am a true friend by my actions when my words may fail. I chose to "be mindful" of my actions so I will not betray my words.

Of My Surroundings:
This one is rather tricky. If I keep my focus on the here and now, then I will miss the coming soon. If I focus on the coming soon, then I miss the here and now. It is like Yin and Yang, a give and take, a push and pull. There has to be a balance to it or we will get off focus and miss the beauty of it all. As I am mindful of my surroundings, I can both act and speak accordingly. If I am oblivious to what is going on around me, I am opening the door for failure, harm, and missed opportunities. I must see the world around me and purpose to be a partaker of the grander scheme of things. I must play my part on the stage of life until my scene is done. I cannot do this if my head is stuck in the sand or up in the clouds. I must see life from both perspectives of heaven and earth. I must see from heaven to help a hurting world. I must be able to see from earth the pain of my fellow man. If I see from a heavenly perspective, then I gain the knowledge to be the help to a hurting world.

Of the Moments:
There is a saying that life isn't measured in the moments, but in the moments that take our breath away. Even though this statement rings with truth, when we are mindful of even the smallest of moments we become aware of growth potential. As I am mindful of the moments, I become (sometimes painfully) aware of the stretching of myself and give myself permission to venture out of my little small box and experience the more. As we shift our focus to be mindful of the moments, we see those defining ones that change our perspective and alter the course of history. It is in the moments that life is truly lived. I love this quote by Dr. Seuss, "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory".

Of Myself:
This almost seems to contradict the very first "be mindful of", however, it is a needful thing. As a wife and mother, my family comes before my own needs. However, if I neglect myself I cannot be the caregiver my family needs. If I neglect my own health and well-being for the benefit of others, I will crash and burn resulting in me not being able to help others. I cannot put others first, mind my attitude, actions, and my surroundings if I myself am not in a good place. When the day is done and gone, I have to take an inventory of my own self to see what I need so that I can face the next day ready for what may come.

I hope you take these words and interpret the meaning they have for you and apply them to your own life. Always "be mindful".

DIY: Crystal Bridal Necklace

Materials:
1 pkg Crystazzi® Crystal AB Pear (36756227)
1 pkg Crystazzi® Crystal Rosaline AB Bicone (36756402)
1 pkg Crystazzi® Crystal AB Cushion/Saucer (36756466)
silver plated link chain
15 silver plated head pins
5 silver plated eye pins
4 silver plated 4mm jump rings
1 silver plated 6mm jump ring
1 silver plated lobster claw clasp

Tools:
Chain Nose/Flat Nose Pliers

Craft Time: About an hour

Techniques to know:
Forming Loops
Cutting Chains
Jump Rings

Instructions:

1. Make the following: 1 large pear dangle, 4 small pear dangles, and 10 bicone dangles by threading a bead onto a head pin and forming a loop.

2. Make five cushion crystal connectors by threading a crystal onto an eye pin and forming a loop.

3. Measure and cut the following two lengths of chain: 18 inches and 4 inches.

4. Find the center link of both chains. To help you do this, thread an eye pin through the end links of each chain. Hold the chain up. Look for a link in the center part of the droop of the chain and slide a head pin through that link. Set shorter chain aside.

5. Attach one of the cushion connectors to the center link of the long chain. Attach a bicone dangle to the 4th link from the center link. Attach another cushion connector in the fourth link over from the bicone. Attach one more bicone and one more cushion in the same manner. Repeat for the opposite side of the center link.

6. Using a 4mm jump ring, attach the center link of the short chain to the center cushion connector. Attach another 4mm jump ring to the 10th link over from the center of the short chain to the bottom of the next cushion connector. Attach the end link of the short chain to the next cushion connector. Repeat for opposite side.

7. Attach the large pear dangle to the center link of the short chain. Attach a bicone connector five links over from the center link of the short chain. Attach a small pear dangle to the same link of the small chain as the second cushion connector. Five links over, attach another bicone dangle. Attach a small pear dangle to the last link of the short chain. Repeat for the opposite side.

8. Using the 4mm and 6mm jump rings, attach the clasp to end of the long chain.

9. Wear your shiny new bridal beauty.

Choosing the Right Earrings for Your Face Shape

With all of these wild and crazy ear dressings showing up on the catwalks these days, it's hard to find the perfect earrings to suit your face and personal style.

Let's look at the different facial shapes and explain them a bit so you can figure out which category you fall in.

Round: has its widest part across the cheekbones with some narrowing along the forehead and chin area. Celebrities with round faces include Jennifer Hudson, Cameron Diáz, Anne Hathaway, and Ginnifer Goodwin.

Oval: has its widest part across the cheekbones with the forehead being the same width as the cheekbones. This facial shape also narrows from the cheeks to the chin creating a nice oval shape. Celebrities with oval faces include Zoey Deschanel, Jennifer Aniston, Mariah Carey, and Uma Thurman.

Square: little to no narrowing from the forehead to cheekbones nor from the cheekbones to the chin. The chin can be rather sharp and jawbone angular. Celebrities with a square face include Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde, Kiera Knightly, and Natalie Portman.

Narrow/Oblong: same general shape as square but more elongated. This facial shape has a very strong jawline to contrast the smooth upper structure of the face. Celebrities with a narrow/oblong facial shape include Hillary Swank, Gweneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Elle Macpherson.

Heart: features a forehead that is wider than the cheekbones and a sharp, keen chin. Celebrities with heart faces include Jennifer Garner, Michelle Pfeiffer, Reese Witherspoon, Lisa Kudrow, and Naomi Campbell.

Now that you have a somewhat clearer idea of what facial shape you fall into, let's look at what earrings would best suit your face.

For round-faced individuals, you need to gravitate to the elongated angular styles of earrings. Also, you can choose from dangles and teardrop shapes. Try a pair of earrings with a graduated design, meaning earrings that start off small at the top and become larger at the bottom. Suggestions based on this style would be Red Drop Earrings, Coin Pearl and Copper Earrings, and Blue Crystal Earrings.

For oval-faced individuals, you are the blessed ones! You can wear pretty much any shape of earrings you desire. To add a bit of striking glamor, try wearing oval shaped dangle earrings.
Suggestions based on this facial shape would include Amethyst Dangle Earrings, Crystal Dangle Earrings, and Golden Drops Earrings.

For square-faced individuals, you will need to lean more towards the hoops style of earrings. Hoops soften the jaw area and cheekbones. Try an oversized hoop style that brushes just at the jawline will add some uhmph to your look. Suggestions based on this facial shape would include Art Deco Hoop Earrings, Mixed Metal Earrings, and Filigree Hoop Earrings.

For narrow/oblong-faced individuals, you need to go with long dangles and earring styles with very elongated shapes to soften the face and accentuate your lovely cheekbones. Suggestions based on this facial shape would include Mixed Metal Shoulder Dusters, Swarovski Crystal Earrings, and Morrocan Style Dangle Earrings.

For heart-faced individuals, you will need to follow suit with your narrow-faced sisters. Reach fore more elongated shapes that will lengthen the face. Suggestions based on this facial shape would include Long Seashell Earrings, Morrocan Style Dangle Earrings, and Golden Drops Earrings.

Caught Between Divine Healing and a Lie

I debated whether or not to share this all over the web. But, I really feel this is something that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. This is a rather lengthy post, so please bear with me and ignore any glaring grammatical errors.

Let me start here by giving you some background - I have a spiritual pedigree about two miles long. Born into a family of pastors, church planters, evangelists, Christian musicians, and missionaries that date back to the early foundations of the state of Mississippi and raised in the Bible-belt, I seemed to have a lot of pressure on my life to be "all that and a bag of chips" when it comes to spiritual things. So for me to share something that was such a personal struggle and hidden from everyone is very difficult for me. I'm hoping it will encourage others to keep pressing on.

You know that moment when a truth is revealed and you don't know whether to cry, shout, scream or faint? Yeah....I had that moment on Wednesday, January 13th.

For years, I had believed a lie. I had swallowed this jagged little pill handed to me from the time I was a small child. This lie gave me excruciating pain throughout my life progressively getting worse as I got older. You see, I was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele meaning the end of my spinal column was open to the outside with fluid leakage. Keep in mind this was the mid-70s. Apparently, the doctors missed the hole in my back when sending me home with my mom. She was the one who discovered it at the first diaper change. She immediately went into prayer and saw the miraculous take place. The hole in my back closed instantly. No more leakage, no more gross looking opening.

All my life I have been plagued with back issues. Every time my back would ache or it would hurt for me to walk, my mom would tell me it was because of my birth defect. And this is where the lie began without me even knowing it. No fault of my mom. She is a God-fearing, faith filled woman. She just didn't understand the power of her words.

The pain in my back grew worse as time went on. I would have falling spells where it felt as if I lost all feeling in my legs and I would collapse. Again, the "it's because of ..." would come up. This went on and on. I had difficulty standing for long periods of time, walking long distances, and sitting for extended periods of time. The lie grew stronger.

In 2004, I sought medical treatment for a pinched nerve in my neck that was causing migraines. When the doctor showed me the x-rays of my back, I knew that I was in trouble. I was missing discs up and down my spine, there was degeneration of the vertebrae, and my spine looked as if someone had twisted it. The bones looked weak and fragile. He told me that eventually I would lose the ability to walk. So, the lie became a dark reality. I never told anyone what the doctor said. I didn't want to be seen as anything less than a faith-filled Christian. I knew my mom would always tell me the story about being healed as an infant. And yet, here I was looking at this horrible future of being wheelchair bound. I was caught between divine healing and a lie that had become so real it was frightening. I did my best to believe I was healed, but it never materialized. I have seen many miracles in my lifetime, but I had not received the one that I so desperately needed. I had prayed for others to be healed and watched as their healing manifested all the while feeling like a hypocrite because I didn't have my healing. And the lie dug deeper and took root. I believed the Word of God to be true, but somehow I just couldn't grab hold of it for my own personal miracle. I couldn't seem to make it work for me. I would quote the Word when I prayed, but nothing happened. I struggled to believe. I knew that God would heal me in His own time. I knew that when He did, He would get the glory. I kept on saying, "one day, I will get my healing".

Over the years, my condition seemed to grow worse and worse. I could feel grinding and grating in my back as I moved. Every day that I could walk, I would praise God There were days that I couldn't walk without excruciating pain. But I got up and moved anyway. There were times that all I could do is lay in bed and cry because of the pain. There were days that I would take pain killers and muscle relaxers just so I could get through the day. The lie was branching out more and more as I struggled. And yet, I praised Him. Through the pain, through all the difficulty, I praised Him.

Then kids came along. The doctors were amazed that I was able to bear the load of carrying babies with my back in the shape it was in. Because of my spinal condition, I had to have C-Sections. No biggie. Yes, I felt like a failure as a mother for a bit anyway before I had to snap back to reality and take care of the babies. With the first child the epidural took. With the second one, not so much. The anesthesiologist ripped the sack that holds my spinal fluid and I had to have a procedure done called a "blood patch" to seal the hole. PAINFUL! But it was better than passing out every time I stood up.
Now, I had to get up and move no matter what. I would push through it to take care of the little ones.

And my back worsened. My back issues became my crutch to blame for what I couldn't do. I can't go there because of my back. I can't do that because of my back. I would use that as my excuse to not be involved and not participate. I had been prayed for numerous times. The lie became such a stronghold it was defeating my faith. There were times I would stand in prayer lines to be prayed for and I would get passed over by the people doing the praying. I figured it wasn't my time to be healed yet or that God had decided not to heal me which was nothing more lies sprouting up.

The last time I received prayer for my back was during a home group meeting. My back popped. Part of me wanted to believe while the other part was saying that it was just a routine pop and nothing more. I left it at that. I so desperately wanted to believe that I was healed. The pain, grinding and grating continued.

Right before Thanksgiving of last year, I took a nice little tumble in the Kroger parking lot. At the urging of the guy from Fire and Rescue that happened to see me fall and ran to my aid, I went to the ER. I had deeply bruised my right knee and hip. So I went home on some really great pain killers. One week to the day of my fall, I bent over to pick up a toy and was stuck. I couldn't come back up. I had to walk my hands up the wall to straighten myself out. I cried all the way back to the living room. I looked rather mechanical in my movements. I figured I had done damage to my back when I fell. My husband urged and begged me to go see a doctor about my back. He found huge knots in my back as would massage my back. He would rub and massage my back while praying over my almost every night all the while begging me to go to the doctor. I was bed-ridden for a few days and had to take everything slow. I even gave up something that I really enjoyed, going to the gym every day.

At the beginning of this year, I prayed and asked God to reveal the areas in my life that I have been believing a lie. I had no idea the repercussions of praying such a prayer. It's like praying for patience and then face palm with a "DOH!" when you all the sudden have a load of tribulation.

I finally gave in to my husband's urgings and made an appointment to see a specialist. My appointment was set for Monday, January 11th. They x-rayed, scanned, poked and prodded my back. The doctor sounded encouraging as she said that the initial look at the x-rays didn't show any degeneration. Huh? No degeneration? Odd. I had a follow-up appointment on Wednesday, January 13th. She sat me down and put the x-rays up for me to see. I had to ask her if she had the right x-rays. She said there was no trace of the Spina Bifida at all. All my discs were intact and healthy. No bulged discs, no slipped discs, no missing discs. My spinal column looked strong and in near perfect alignment. Creative miracle! God restored my spine! This is no other way to put than God rebuilt my spine. I didn't know whether to faint, shout, cry, run around the building or what. I sat there in awe, completely dumbfounded. Speechless.

The Word says in Mark 11:24, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." This is hard to do when the symptoms haven't left. When everything is telling you that you haven't received, how then are we to proceed? It's hard to have faith when there is such a stronghold of doubt and unbelief. Matthew 7:7-8 has the answer, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." We have to fight for our faith. Jude 1:3 tells us to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints". How do we contend for the faith? Through prayer. I never stopped praying or asking for prayer for my back. I never stopped believing that one day, I would have my healing. I had nothing else to go on. The doctors said I would lose the ability to walk. I had all this negative information bombarding me telling me that there was no hope. But even with the tiniest shred of hope, faith can grow. I had a sliver of hope to believe that one day I would be healed. I held on to that hope no matter how fleeting it seemed.

Some might ask, why do some receive such miraculous healing and some don't. I have no clue. I don't have all the answers. All I can do is encourage you to hold on to hope with all you have.

Does my back still hurt? Yes, but now I don't let it define me or define what I can and can't do. Am I undergoing therapy on my back? Yes. Why? To strengthen my back muscles and improve my posture. I plan on being as strong as I can be. That all starts with a strong foundation. Our spines are the foundations of our bodies. If our spines are jacked up, then we are jacked up. It leads to all sorts of problems in different areas of our bodies. The same is with our spiritual walk. If our foundation is built on faith and hope through Christ Jesus, then our life will be strong through the storms. If we build on a foundation of fractured faith mixed with lies and doubt, then our spiritual walk will be a faulty one plagued with all sorts of issues.

So be strong and stedfast in what you believe. Let go of fear and spit out the lies the enemy has fed you. If the Word says you can have it, then confess it, believe it, stand on it, and fight for it.

DIY Gemstone Wave Copper Cuff Bracelet

Gemstone Wave Copper Cuff Bracelet

Materials List:
16 gauge copper wire
24 gauge copper wire

Two packs 10mm Round Gemstones or similar

Wire Wrapping

Working with Jigs

Craft Time: 1 hour

Instructions:

Cut and straighten 40 inches of 16 gauge wire. Set aside.

Measure wrist. Place tape measure around jig and place a peg at each end of your wrist measurement in the center of the rows. Skip over one row and begin placing pegs into the top row of the jig skipping every other hole until you reach your end peg. Place pegs in the next to last row of the jig skipping every other hole until you reach your end peg. Pegs should be diagonal from the top row, not in line with it.

Make a loop with round nose pliers in one end of the wire. Place the loop over your anchor peg. Wrap the wire over each peg forming a wave. Do not wrap around your stop peg. Slip wire gently off jig.

Bend the anchor loop sideways so that it is perpendicular to the wire.

Measure one inch from the last wave and make a 90º bend towards the waves. Fold the wire down back so that the wire end now runs parallel to the waves. Measure about ½ inch from the bend and trim off extra wire. Press the bend close together so it will easily slide through the anchor loop forming a clasp.

Adjust any odd-shaped bends in the wave with round nose and flat nose pliers. If needed, adjust the openings of the waves with the barrel of a Sharpie®™Marker.

Working with short pieces of 24 gauge wire, attach gemstones to each bend of the wave except the bends closest to the clasp.

Squeeze the waves closer together and reshape into a bracelet.

DIY Filigree Hoop Earring Tutorial

Last week I gave a review of a two wire jigs Prima Bead has available on their site and I told you I would be posting tutorials using both jigs. Here is the very first of those tutorials. This particular one is using the flat or regular jig. It is a very versatile tutorial that can be easily customized to your tastes. Your end result will be a lightweight and fashionable pair of earrings.

SPECIAL NOTE: DO NOT USE HALF-HARD WIRE. Your pegs will snap.

Filigree Hoop Earrings

Materials Needed:
20 gauge silver plated copper wire or any wire you choose (I used 63815072 from Prima Bead)

Tools Required:

Wire Jig (34737052)

Round Nose Pliers

Flat Nose or Chain Nose Pliers

Marker

Emery Board or Wire Rounder

Skill Level: Beginner

Craft Time: 20 - 30 minutes

Skills Required:

Form a Loop

Wire Jig

Instructions:

Measure, cut, and straighten two 10 inch pieces of wire. Form a loop at one end of each piece of wire. Set aside.

Place 16 pegs into the jig in two rows of 8 diagonally across the jig.

Place one piece of wire between the rows of pegs. Slide the loop all the way against the pegs.

Begin wrapping the wire around each peg forming a series of figure 8s.

Gently slide form off the jig.

Press the loops closed using flat or chain nose pliers. Adjust any odd shaped loops with round nose pliers.

Bend the end of the wire at a 90º angle flush with the last loop using flat or chain nose pliers.

Wrap form around the barrel of a marker. Slip the tail into the end loop.

Make a slight bend in the very end of the wire using flat or chain nose pliers. Trim if necessary.

Smooth wire end with emery board or wire rounder.

Repeat for second wire.

Design Idea: Wire wrap crystals or beads into the loops of the filigree for a little bling.

Beadalon's Artistic Wire 3D Bracelet Jig and Prima Bead's Wire Jig Reviews

I was recently asked by Prima Bead to play around with Beadalon's new Artistic Wire 3D Bracelet Jig and create some projects using the jig as well as using a flat wire jig, also available from Prima Bead.

First let us look at Beadalon's new Artistic Wire 3D Bracelet Jig.

This thing is totally cool. It is a round jig base with evenly spaced rows and columns of holes. Pegs go through the holes and are secured with some sort of flexible plastic fasteners that slip over the peg ends. This jig allows you to create wire bangles and cuff bracelets with ease as well as curved earring components. The jig retails for $15.99 on Prima Bead and comes with 20 pegs and fasteners as well as an instruction booklet.

It is a very easy to use jig and the pegs really stay in play as you work. I have used up to 16 gauge wire on the jig without any trouble. To remove your design, simply slip the fasteners off the bottom of the pegs and remove the pegs. The design will fall off with ease. You can even make those super cute and trendy adjustable bangle charm bracelets with this bad boy.

Important to note is that you will need additional pegs and fasteners for more intricate projects. The extra pegs come packages in sets of 30 pegs with fasteners for $6.99 on Prima Bead.

The only draw back to this jig is that there isn't enough pegs in the package with the jig if you have an elaborate design. For simple designs, 20 pegs are plenty.

Here are two bracelets I made using the 3D Bracelet Jig:

This one definitely required extra pegs.

Prima Bead also offers a flat wire jig for those who are just starting out. It retails for only $7.49 and comes with two colors of practice wire, 21 various sized plastic pegs and instruction booklet. There is one really large peg, two smaller pegs, two medium size pegs and 16 small pegs. The pegs stay securely in the jig without any fasteners. This is a great beginner jig for simple projects. You can create filigree connectors, hook and eye clasps, and even ear wires with this jig. If you are just creating simplistic designs, then this is a great jig to use.

This jig can be a bit of a learning curve when you first look at it, but don't be intimidated. Once you figure out what row lines up with which column, you will have it licked. The instruction booklet has two blank templates for you to sketch out designs on.

I found three minor drawbacks to this tool. One is again the pegs. There is not any extra pack of pegs that can be purchased as yet. So, be careful as not to lose them. The second drawback to this jig is there are only two blank templates. But this is an easy fix. Simply photocopy or scan them. The final drawback is the jig cannot handle heavier gauge wire. 16 gauge wire is a bit of a stretch for the jig. It can be done as long as the wire is aluminum or dead soft copper wire. It is, after all, just a beginner jig.

Florida Keepsake Necklace

Of all the souvenirs I receive and pick up in Florida, I think by far my favorite are the little jars of sand and shells. Why do I like them? They have so much project potential.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a cute, Swarovski crusted, keepsake necklace like the one below. You can customize the project to use any color you choose. I chose a seaglass theme.

Supplies I Used:
One "Florida" mini-bottle sand and shell keychain souvenir with keychain removed
One 21x10.5 mm Swarovski crystal pendant (6010) in Golden Shadow (SC5152)

Craft Time: About an hour

Instructions:
Put a heavy gauge jump ring through the hole of the Swarovski pendant. Connect the 4mm heavy gauge jump ring to the first jump ring and set aside. Create 8 Swarovski crystal bicone dangles using headpins and form a loop. Set aside.

Cut 36 inches of large link chain and set aside. Cut 36 inches of organza ribbon and set aside.

Remove cork from mini-bottle. Using a toothpick smear E-6000 to the inside of the keepsake bottle necklace and replace cork.

Form a Loop at the end of the wire. Press the wire against the neck of the bottle and wrap around the neck about three times.

Take the tail of the wire just past the loop and curl backward and thread the tail back through the loop.

Create a spiral with your fingers. Adjust the wraps with round nose pliers to make sure the spiral is smooth

Wrap around the top of the cork two times and pull around and across the top of the cork. Using the largest barrel of bail making pliers form a triple wrap and trim the wire flush against the cork.

Using a tooth pick, smear glue into the opening in the wraps of wire at the top of the bottle to secure the wire and allow to dry.

Using a toothpick, smear E-6000 onto the bottom of the bottle and one side of the bottle and begin placing on the flatbacks varying the sizes and colors.

Pick a pattern that is pleasing to you and have fun! Allow to dry.

Open the link of the chain as you would a jump ring - from side to side.

Hook it to the bail of the bottle, and slide into the last link of the other end of the chain. Close the link.

Open a 6mm jump ring and slide on a 6mm, 4mm bicone, and close the ring. Open another jump ring, thread through the first jump ring and slide one a 6mm and a 4mm bicone. Repeat until you get to the last jump ring.

Use a heavy gauge jump ring and thread through the last regular jump ring and slide on the last 6mm bicone dangle, 4mm bicone dangle and the 4mm jump ring of the Swarovski pendant. Attach to the bail of the bottle.

Thread the ribbon onto the large yarn needle. Beginning at the back of the chain, skip the center link and thread through the next skipping every other link. Make sure to leave a eight inch tail of ribbon.

Do not pull tight or the ribbon could snag on the lengths of the chain. Pass the needle in the opposite direction of the the tail of the ribbon.

Smooth out the chain to make sure it isn't bunched up and the ribbon isn't pulled too tight.

Tie a loose overhand knot and then a bow. Trim the ribbon ends. Treat ends with Fray-No-More and apply a dab of Sew-No-More to the center of the bow.

If you find the "Florida" fading or chipping off, repair with a Sharpie and seal with clear fingernail polish.

What Inspires You?

I was recently asked what inspires me. It took me a bit to pinpoint the exact thing that has truly inspired me the most. I create jewelry, but what inspires me to create it? Who or what gives me the idea that I can do this thing that I love so much to do? Is it nature, literature, colors, other designers, architecture?

As I thought on this for a bit, I kept drawing a blank. I thought about the styles of jewelry I make and where does that influence come from. I couldn't put my finger on it. I sat down the other day to work on a new creation and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. My inspiration comes from my dad!

Why my dad? My dad, a Vietnam vet and cancer survivor with only an eighth grade education and Dyslexia, never knew what the word "can't" means. He taught himself German when everyone said it would be impossible and that he wasn't smart enough to do it. He has a natural mechanical and engineering bend. He was able to study drafting and worked at Boeing in Seattle during the late 60s as a draftsman. Can you imagine a person with only an eighth grade education doing that?!

My daddy.

He has always encouraged me to do whatever I put my mind to. He has always told me, "If you can dream it, then you can do it". He has always pushed me to do better, to be more creative, to think outside the box, to always try again if something didn't work the first time. My creative passion comes from his gentle reminder that no matter what, he would always have my back.

His love and encouragement comes from a place deep rooted inside of him from our Heavenly Father. His love for God has been in inspiration to me as well. He has quiet in his passion for God, but you can tell my dad puts Him first in all he attempts to do. Back in his Navy days, he was one of the few guys who would stay on the ship and read his Bible instead of partying with the rest of the crew. After meeting up with one of his old shipmates, his fellow sailor told him that there was someone that had been wanting to find and talk to my dad. His friend placed a call. That call was to my dad's former captain from the U.S.S. Whetstone. His former captain revealed to my dad he had became a Christian because of my dad's actions and living witness to Christ while aboard the ship. There are other shipmates that have confessed the same thing. The life my dad lived in front of others left a mark on his captain and shipmates.

My dad knows how to live out of the Gospel of Christ. He once told me that he had tried his best to model his life around the Beatitudes. I can say honestly that his life truly reflects those words. He is one of the most humble men I know and honest to a fault. His life is an inspiration to me. Can you guess that I'm a "daddy's girl"? Yeah, I'm kinda partial to him.

I watch him with my boys and see how he teaches them and shows them things. He is instilling in them that same passion for learning and figuring things out that he instilled into me and my brother. He has a passion for learning and history that most people stand in awe of.

When I look at my dad, I see a man who never stopped when people told him he wasn't smart enough or good enough. He proved them all wrong with his "can do" attitude and pioneer spirit. He has endured so much hardship in his life, but has overcome it all. He fought on when others would have given up. He stood by my mom through her mental illness when most men would have walked out. I believe it was his trust in God, prayers, and devotion to my mom that saw her through the worst time in her life. He became a rock to her when she needed him most.

I know that I am able to push through creative blockages because I hear his voice in my ears encouraging me. If I need someone to talk to, I call my dad. If I am in need of a creative push, I talk to my dad. I show him what I am working on, and he can usual work out how to make the design work when I can't see the forest for the trees.

His faith in me has carried me through some rough seas in life. He always told me not to let any one tell me I couldn't do something because I was a girl. He taught me to do my best and to prove to myself that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". My dad told me that I didn't have to prove to anyone else that I could do things s long as I could prove it to myself.

Cousin Corporation of America (CCA) sent me a lovely box full of Swarovski crystals from their new Create Your Style with Swarovski™ line due to hit A.C. Moore Crafts this month.

These pieces are so versatile you can mix them with so many different things. I love all things Swarovski. :) I'm partial I guess.

Well.....I really fell in love with the Swarovski Heliotrope heart pendant that was in the box. Each time I looked at it, I really felt drawn to pay homage to the Purple Heart medal. I did my research and found that the ribbon of the medal is purple with white trim and has gold accents. So I decided to create a lovely "ribbon" using TOHO seed beads in Heliotrope and Matte Opaque White. I wanted gold somewhere, so I decided on a gold chain necklace.

I found these lovely pavé beads with purple crystals from CCA's Jewelry Basics line. I wanted to incorporate them somehow, but the pavé beads didn't quite make it to the final design.

It was a definitely a learning curve since I had never done a decrease Peyote stitch before....How hard could it be, right? Apparently harder than it looked. I think I had to rip it apart about four times before it would come out right. The beauty of using TOHO beads is the large opening that allows for jump rings to slide in even with a ton of thread already in the bead.

After I got the first part done, I had to make a second flap so it would be able to slide on a chain. I stitched it all up along the sides leaving an opening for a thin chain to slide through.

I chose a thin 14 kt gold plated copper chain from CCA's Elegance Metal Line. I also put two of the purple crystals from the pave beads at the back connecting to a 14kt gold plated copper heart toggle also from the Elegance Metal line.

I have to say, I am very pleased with the way it turned out.

SPARKLE OVER LOAD with tutorial!

Sparkle overload? Is there even such a thing? Sounds made up to me......hehehehehhehe. If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then Swarovski Crystals would be a diamond's best friend.

I love the fire Swarovski has. They are well known for their quality and brilliance.

I love it when I get showered in these amazing crystals and crystal pearls.

I recently received an awesome haul of Swarovski crystals courtesy of Cousin Corporation of America (CCA). Can I say....LOVE LOVE LOVE! This dainty bridal bracelet is both delicate and feminine. You can stack it with other bracelets for a little added bling or alone when you want to be a delicate flower.

Create Your Style with Swarovski Bridal Bracelet

Skill Level: Beginner

Craft Time: Under an hour

Chain Nose
Flush Cutters
Crimp Tool
Tape Measure
Crimp Cover Closing Pliers (Optional)

Begin my measuring your wrist for size. Mine will comfortably fit a 7 inch bracelet, but I wanted a loose fit so a 7.5 or 7.75 inch would be perfect.

Measure and cut about 5 inches more of wire than your bracelet size.

Attach a 4mm jump ring (the smallest one in the pack) to the clasp and set aside.

Layout your design to make sure it will fit within the size parameters. You can also do a test string to make sure your design will fit within the length parameters.

I ended up not using the original noodle beads I chose because they were a bit overpowering for the design. I wanted the crystals are to be the focal point of the bracelet, not the metal.

Here are the new noodle beads

String a crimp tube and a 6 mm jump ring (largest one in the pack) onto the beading wire and push the wire back through the crimp tube forming a loop. Push the tube back up close to the jump ring giving yourself some space between the tube and the jump ring.

Crimp the tube with your crimping pliers. (I use crimping pliers for this instead of flat or chain nose because the crimping pliers created a small and stronger crimp.)

Slide a crimp cover over the crimped tube and squeeze closed with either crimp cover closing pliers or your chain nose pliers.

Adding the crimp cover gives you a finished, more professional look as well as protecting your crimp.

Thread on your design and double check your length. Adjust as needed.

If you have trouble getting your beading wire through the noodle bead, make a bend in the wire with your fingers about a half inch from the end of the wire. This will help the wire not catch on the edge of the noodle bead.

Thread on another crimp tube and pass the wire through the jump ring of the clasp. Push the wire back through the tube and slide the tube close to the jump ring leaving some room and crimp. Cover the tube with a crimp cover and close the cover.

Trim off excess wire.

Wear your bracelet in style!

What Would Happen: The Reveal

Okay...here we are FINALLY! If you recall back in February, fellow ambassador Dawn Doucette issued a design challenge to the rest of us Creative Circle gals. She selected the same group of beads and findings for each of us to create a few pieces or a lot of pieces depending on what we had time to do.

The lovely haul included gemstone beads, acrylic beads, lamp work glass beads, crystals, chain, and a few pendants/charms. Gorgeous selection if you ask me. Dawn did an outstanding job of picking the stash. In addition to using this stash of goodies, we were to add in our own elements from findings to beads and of course our imaginations.

I have teased you with a few of the things I had been working on over the past few weeks. Here is the reveal of what I made using these beautiful items.

The very first piece was came very quickly as far as ideas go. The implementation of those ideas was a completely different story. I spend the majority of the time on this bad boy as well as the majority of my stash. I would get one idea that would morph into another one. The end result is a lovely Bohemian queen look. It's definitely a statement piece.

The next piece I created required a bit more skill. I had somewhat of an idea in my head, but wasn't sure how it would turn out. I sketched it out and decided to give it a go. I hand-cut a piece of 26 gauge copper sheet metal, added in some rivets, threaded 18 gauge copper wire through the rivets, and then added in some of the pretty dark colored gemstones and lovely smoky crystals to the center piece.

Cutting out the center part was a bit tough considering I broke two saw blades on it. I ended up having to get it started with the saw and finishing it with my sheet metal shears. The eyelet rivets were easy to set once I punched the holes with my metal punch. I think this one may be my favorite piece.

Overcoming a Challenge

"Life is not about the destination, but the journey". We have heard this from time to time in reference to many things. The same can be said about challenges we face. It's not about the outcome of a challenge, but about learning from the experience.

Even sitting here trying to right this post is a challenge. Do I go with what I know to be true and risk offending someone or do I play it safe and just talk about the fluff?

There are times in which no matter how hard we try, we can hit a brick wall. We try and try and still fall short of what we are trying to accomplish. Sometimes it's the materials we are working with that are giving us grief. Sometimes it's our lack of skill or mental state at the time that causes our difficulty. When we hit those brick walls, it is important that we understand that there are things that are just completely out of our control. Threads snap, wire breaks, beads shatter or roll off the work table. Life throws us a curve ball. These are things that we can't control but they frustrate us as if we could somehow by the sheer desire of it not to happen can control them and prevent it. In a perfect world, maybe.

DESIGN CHALLENGES:

When I hit a design challenges, I step away. I rethink by sketching out what I was trying to do. I usually find that my original idea was not all the great. If I could just get my frustrations out on paper, I feel so much better. Sometimes, I just need to change my focus. In other words, I WALK AWAY! I get up from the table and go do something else. Usually that means the laundry or the dishes get done. Sometimes I take a walk or read a good book.

When I hit a stump, (for instance trying to make a clasp that I have been making for years and no matter how hard I try I still can't get it), I revisit a tutorial on the subject matter to make sure that I haven't missed something.

Sometimes, the challenge comes our own desire to achieve more. There is nothing wrong with that. These are the most difficult of challenges to overcome. For me, I wanted to know how to do bead embroidery. Seems simple enough, like sewing...sort of. I watched video after video after video on how to do it. Each one seemed to have a completely different idea on how to do it which was a bit confusing. Glue the stone on the backing, don't glue, do this not that....don't do this....so on and so on. But I kept trying. I bought a couple of books on the subject and studied them. I talked to friends who are highly skilled in bead embroidery as to what threads and backing to use. I'm sure I drove them nuts and they were all glad that this crazy person didn't live close to them.

You have to stretch yourself to accept the possibility that you can accomplish something more. Keep trying until you get it right no matter what you are attempting to do. Even then it's hard and it may not look right the first time, the point is that you TRIED it. I have learned a lot just by attempting something, like distressing a lamp. Who would have thunk!?

WORK RELATED CHALLENGES:

Sometimes, the challenge comes from outside forces, like work. We get a ton of paperwork dumped on us at the last minute or a meeting throws us off our game. A deadline gets moves and messes with our mojo. One of those times for me was when Cousin asked the ambassadors to create a show piece for the Bead and Button show.

I TOTALLY FREAKED OUT! This is a show that is in front of thousands of people who have way more skill and design capability in their little finger than I have in my whole body. I think I went into a panic attack when I got the email. After the initial shock calmed down, I did my research on the show and current design trends, sketched out my design, ordered my supplies, and got to work. I drew inspiration from old Victorian age bridal jewelry and the wonderful style icon, Coco Chanel.

I actually sketched on paper and got frustrated. Fortunately, I have a good bit of knowledge in using Illustrator from my graphic design days. So, I used precise measurements of the beads and findings to plan out my design and to make sure what I had on paper would line up with that I was attempting to do. Not everyone has to be this precise....I do. I'm just weird like that.

Keep in mind, I am still panicking during this entire process. I'm trying to be calm and just go with the beading flow here. I think I shook during the entire creation and lost a ton of beads to the floor. I can't tell you how much thread and how many needles I broke. But, I kept going until I was done.

I ended up making two pieces that year for the same show. I'm just crazy like that.

Looks like a hot mess! No, really.....it does, but I think Coco Chanel would so wear this one proudly.

There was another time that Cousin sprung something on us with a Walmart - Canada project. They hand-picked beads and findings for us and asked us to create an inspiration piece as well as a project piece for this client. I had beads that I would have never chosen to use whatsoever! I had limited myself by that too. These lovely beads made their way into my heart as I worked with them. Thank you guys at Cousin for giving us such difficult tasks to do. It stretches us as designers.

MESSES UP MATERIALS:

Sometimes, our materials get us. Breaking two saw blades on 26 gauge copper sheet metal and the blade was designed for that particular gauge for example. GRRRRrrrrrr! Or cracking the tip off the only top drilled briolette you have left of that color and it is no longer available and you can't purchase a new one. Been there, done that way too many times. Or you order one color of bead and when it arrives it's a completely different color than what it showed on the screen! Yeah....had that happen a time or two as well. Or snapping your best needle in the middle of stitching or busting a bead as you pass your needle and thread back through it and that bead is like in the freaking middle of your project! Yes, I have issues. I admit that. Okay....deep breath....moving on.

It is the challenges in life that help us grow and develop into who we are. If we never allowed ourselves to room to fail, then we would never overcome. These challenging times test our metal (pun intended). The old saying that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger really is true. That being said....don't be afraid to try something new just because it is....well....new. Be brave and let yourself be free to make changes as your design and skill set evolves.

You might just enjoy and come to love the finished projects. Trying new techniques or projects that are more challenging to us will give us a great insight into areas we may have neglected to cultivate in our lives.

Always be grateful to those who helped you along the way. They too were once on this very same path to discovery.

LIFE'S CURVE BALLS:

Then the one last remaining challenge we can face is the unexpected curve balls that come our way. We have unexpected events that are completely out of our control and catch us by surprise like the death of a loved one, job loss, injury or sudden illness. These are things that also help define us. They give us an opportunity to either press on or to give up. I have had my share of severe hard knocks in life. Each time, I had a choice....to lay and wallow in my sorrow or move forward and live. "Weeping may enure for a night, but joy comes in the morning," (Psalm 30:5b). Things that may seem like a great disappointment have a way of turning into a great blessing. Our response to these challenges is everything. We have a choice in the matter. We can choose to allow challenges to stunt our development or allow them to stretch and strengthen us. We choose our response - to be full of bitterness and discontentment or look for the joy hidden in the sorrow. We choose to be an overcomer or the victim. As for me, I CHOOSE to be an overcomer. The pressures or "challenges" of life reveal more than we realize about the condition of our hearts. If we are still bitter from the last blow, it comes out at the next one revealing our warped perspective. The same is true for if we continually seek the good in every situation. When we are dealt a dirty hand and we release joy in the midst of it, it shows us that we are seeing the situation with a pure heart and a clear perspective. Life has a funny way of warping our mentality and perspective when it comes to life's little challenges. Be mindful of that.

If you are having difficulty dealing with a particular situation, change the scenery! Looking from a different perspective and fresh eyes will help to move past the disappointments and sorrow to see the best way to deal with the issue at hand. What does a different perspective look like? I can only tell you what has worked for me....taking a break from the situation and all the voices of other people so I can hear my own inner voice, spending time in prayer and meditating on the truth of God's Word. Whether that would be taking a short road trip through the country, a walk along the banks of a lake, a hike through the woods, deep prayer and meditation, confiding in a trusted friend or counselor, or taking a long hot bubble bath while eating tons of chocolate is completely up to you. Find your happy place and "search for peace and seek it eagerly" (1 Peter 3:11b).

Simple and Trendy Adjustable Leather Necklace Tutorial

Haven't done one of these for a while so here is a simple tutorial for you.

All you will need about 3 feet of 2mm round leather lace and a pendant.

Products I am using:
34737017 - Cord Basics 25yd Brown Leather Cord
Pendant from the dollar bin at Walmart (Also a Cousin product)

Measure and cut 3 feet of the leather and soak in a bowl of water for about five to ten minutes to soften the leather up. Remove and dry off with paper towels. Give the leather a gentle squeeze to remove any excess water.

Thread your pendant onto the leather and lay the ends parallel.

This is where it might get tricky, so check out this video tutorial just in case my instructions are unclear.

Take one end and fold it back over itself and hold the other end up against it. It will make a big loop.

Wrap the folded end around itself and the other end two times.

Tuck in the end of the wrap under all the loops and pull tight. This will pull in your large loop and get very snug. Your large loop should disappear into the wrapping.

Repeat for the other side. Knots should slide easily against the leather.

Enjoy your new trendy and simple sliding knot necklace.

Hello! Today, I am continuing the series on the Design Challenge we ambassadors are working on. In previous posts, I have introduced you to our design team challengers and showed you all the lovely supplies that were hand-picked by our design diva, Dawn Doucette.

Dawn fell into the Romantics team due to her style of designing. Let me take a moment to reintroduce her:

Summery colors for sure. Even though these colors are bright and cheery, I find them highly relaxing at the same time. They are like sitting in the sun on a beach enjoying a lovely breeze across the water. I love how Dawn played off the colors of the leaf with the coral colored gemstones totally unifying the look. I really cannot wait to see the rest of this piece. I know it is going to be amazing. It looks like she also matched the bead backing to the color of the leather on the pendant as well. Dawn's designs are very intricate and her attention to detail is unsurpassed. I enjoy looking at all her designs. Check out her site to see all her wonderful creations.

I have to say, I am really enjoying this challenge more than I thought I would. I have been really spurred into creating things after being in a design funk for a while. Thanks Dawn for helping me break through my designer's block.

This is the second part to the blog series we as Creative Circle Ambassadors are doing for our "Design Challenge" issued by fellow ambassador Dawn Doucette. In my previous post, I introduced you to our teams and showed you all the lovely goodies we received to create our pieces with. Now it's time to show you a little of my design process and to tease you a bit before the big reveal at the end of March.

I gathered up a few of the supplies that seemed to just go well together and pulled from a few things I already had to accentuate what I was looking at. I did make some changes to my initial design as some of the supplies didn't behave and want to play well with others. The leather strap in the center was one of those supplies. A few things shown in the background were also abandoned as the design took shape. These supplies are available at your local craft stores and at Prima Bead. Walmart carries a few of them as well. I did accidentally inflict a war wound while working on this one. My pliers slipped and scraped against my knuckle.

Don't you just love these copper paddles.

The next piece was a bit more complicated. The beads are available on the Prima Bead website as well as your local craft store. The sheet metal and heavy gauge wire (not shown) are available online from various retailers such as Rio Grande. I broke two saw blades cutting through the copper sheet. LOL. I guess I wasn't holding my mouth right. After the first initial cuts, I finished it up the cuts with my shears.

The design is purposely hidden underneath the copper sheet so you can't see what I am planning.

Hopefully soon, I will let you know the progress of the other ladies. I am excited to see what they are up to. Ciao for now!
