2011 was a great year to have produced some lip smacking and jaw dropping films. But I really missed a good romantic comedy in 2011.However I have made a list of the best films of 2011.

Crazy, Stupid, Love was the best comedy film in 2011 with a smart performance by Steve Carell.I love the movie for its epic screw up storyline. Its really funny.

The Lincoln Lawyer & Limitless these two films are tied in 9th place.Lincoln Lawyer is the best film of Matthew McConaughey after How To Lose a Guy in 10 days. The film also boasts of having a spine chilling plot and good performances.Limitless is another fancy story with Bradley Cooper playing the protagonist.I loved the story.Though the film contains some really violent scenes yet its a good thriller.

The Way Back is the best adventure movie of 2011.Based on a true story this movie is really amazing and keeps you glued till the end.Backed by good performances and brilliant story telling this movie is a must watch.

Fast Five is the best action flick of 2011.I rate this movie as far better than MI4.Vin Diesel and his gang has really done well in the film.I rate this movie as the best movie of all the Fast and Furious series. With a good story and some awesome stunts this movie rules.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes I dint like the first installment Planet of the Apes (2001) but the sequel is far more better than the original.Having a good story this flick is not another brainless science fiction film.

The Ides of March & 50/50.Ides of March is a political drama released in October 2011.This film has the legend George Clooney all over as written directed and actor.Ryan Gosling made three films this year but this was is best.A gripping story and strong dialogues this movie is right in the 5th place of this list.50/50 is a drama of a young guy Adam struggling with spinal chord cancer. The movie shows what goes through his life.Seth Rogen also at his best in this flick.Go check it out if you haven't.

Warrior & The Skin I Live In.Warrior is based on a true story is my personal favorite of this year. This heart touching film depicting strenuous relationship between a father and his two kids really deserves a prize. The final confontration in the ring is more pathetic and sad.Warrior is one film which you cant afford to miss in 2011.The Skin I Live In is the best film I saw this year. This is film needs no introduction but deserves a watch. The film is an incredible weaving of an array of human emotions.

Midnight In Paris & Contagion both these films though vastly different are tied at 3rd place.Midnight in Paris is the best romantic film in 2011 and Owen Wilson's best performance I guess. The Wedding Crashers duo did a splendid job together. This fantasy film brings into life the biggest names of French art and literature making this film more romantic than any other movie I have seen in recent past.Contagion on the contrary is a medical thriller depicting in minute details how a epidemic spreads and take the world in its stride.Loved this film for its realistic portray of a disaster which I don't remember any movie has done till date.

Bridesmaid is a chick flick which shows the sorry state of an aged single woman with a comic touch. This movie will be remembered for a ground breaking performance by Kristen Wiig. She plays Annie with a great conviction and truly deserves pat on the back for her performance.

Rio & Adventures of Tintin are the best films of 2011.Rio is a sweet film of a blue Macau named Blu.He can't fly and gets lost in the city of Rio.Rio is the best entertaining film of 2011.A funny story and good songs make the film a memorable one. When Speilberg makes a film it should be special.Tintin is busy to find the secret behind the Unicorn and he is aided by Snowy and Captain Haddock. While Snowy is always there to help Captain Haddock screws up things. This comic adventure film is a must watch for all.
I planned to write on 10 best Bollywood movies of 2011 but ended up with 5 movies which were worth watching. This year almost 107 films were released in Bollywood and majority of them were trash.Movies like Bodyguard,Ready,Singham,Ra-One became highest grosser overnight God knows how.Obnoxious movies like Chatur Singh Two Star, Rascals, Mujhse Fraandship Karoge,Luv Ka The End , Haunted 3D also saw the light this year.Phew!!Lets not talk about the disasters and here goes my list straightaway

Chalo Dilli released in April 2011 was a breath of fresh air with great performances by talented Mr Vinay Pathak and the not so talented Mrs Lara Dutta.Chalo Dilli is a well scripted realistic comedy movie.

Delhi Belly released in July 2011 is one f***ing great movie.I dint find any other word to aptly describe the greatness of the movie looking at the standard it has set for film makers and cine goers.Delhi Belly surprised me with its language and visuals. This movie has broken the time barrier and brought Indian cinema five years ahead of itself.Kudos to Aamir Khan and his team.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was released in July 2011.It has got the great Farhan Akhtar along two other less great actors Hrithik and Abhay Deol.Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara may be called the Dil Chahta Hai of 2011.From stunning locations to superb acting and intelligent dialogues this movie has all. This movie celebrates friendship and life.A great film and worth watching a million times.

Chillar Party released again in July 2011 is a children's film aimed for all ages.Salman Khan scared all movie bluffs from going to theaters with his brand of south remakes but one good thing he did in 2011 was by producing Chillar Party. This is the sweetest movie of 2011 where a band of kids takes on a mighty politician. The kids are the real star of the movie specially Zanghia did a remarkable job. They surpassed our so called Bollywood actors by a huge margin.Salman if you are reading this post do take some acting lessons from them.

I Am Kalam also released in July 2011 is a very special movie. This is a story of a kid who aspired to go to school but could not do so because of lack of money.I am Kalam has a great story and ground breaking performance by Harsh Mayar. This is one film which you cannot afford to miss.

To summarise July was the best month for Bollywood in 2011 and after that came SRK with the likes of Ra-One which were in tolerable.Rockstar, Pyar Ka Punchnama,Shaitan,Sahib Biwi aur Gangster were good too but they lacked something and easily slipped out of my list.Hope 2012 turns out better so that I can make a list of at least 10 films.Please..Please....
MI4 is the worst edition of the series and very close to a Bollywood masala film. There were few things which I liked about the movie. The first half was good as it had some really great action sequences.Blowing up the Kremlin, escape from prison and Dubai sandstorm were really good.Cheating a Russian guard with a moving projector was the best thing in the movie. Now coming to the creepy things.Ethan Hunt being an elite agent struggles to get a briefcase from an old scientist who has no knowledge of warfare.Trying to deactivate a missile saying "mission accomplished" was really stupid.MI4 is just like any other secret agent movie where the agent is left all alone as his organization is dissolved by the government. He then tries to prove that his agency is innocent.Off course there is nuclear weapons involved as depicting anything less serious will turn it to mission possible. This time Ethan comes to party in India and wow did you see the cars and the high rise buildings ? Which city does he visit ?If anybody can recognize the city please do let me know.Though the movie says its Mumbai but I think its Mumbai of 2020.Anil Kapoor as Brijnath is the biggest turn down of the movie.A waiter carrying an array of phones for Brijnath on a tray was really funny.
Tom Cruise still looks hot and keeps the movie going. But in MI4 he has little to do except breaking into Kremlin and hanging from the Burj Khalifa or chasing Hendricks.Wish MI4 had some more action or chase sequence because its not enough. There are some comic dialogues but few of them really make you laugh.Paula Patton was quite impressive and sexy too.Jeremy Renner struggles with a guilt throughout the movie but an IMF agent with so much emotion looks foolish and does not earn any sympathy.
MI4 has got huge positive feedback from film critics around the world but I found Ghost Protocol totally cold and not worth watching.Wondering how it got 94% fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes.Phew.
I got a super-duper important
conference call in 10 minutes.
Mitch's Father:You don't have a job.
Mitch:You don't have any hair.
Mitch's Father:Right.
Mitch's Father:Well, then I'll just
say it here.
Mitch's Father:I'm getting married again,and I'd like you to
come to the wedding.
Mitch:When's the wedding?
Mitch's Father:Next Saturday.My betrothed, Pamela,
would like you to be there to say a few words.
Mitch:I'll catch the next one.

Dave's Daughter:Do you want to come
to my dance recital?
Mitch:Oh!No, honey. The only style of dancing
that Uncle Mitch likes involves a big, shiny pole, and a
broken woman with daddy issues.

Mitch:I auditioned for
a movie role, I got it.Yeah, first one.
Dave:Hey, good for you.
What is it called?
Mitch:Untitled Awesome Movie.
Dave:Truly? That's the name?
Mitch:Yeah.
Dave:Yeah. Good for you.

Mitch:Yeah! Wait,
who's Sabrina?
Dave:Sabrina. She's this...She's this new law
associate at my work. She's so hot.Oh, Mitch, is she hot. Uh-oh.
She's like fall-out-of-a-magazine
hot, you know?
Mitch:I bet she's number one
on your cancer list, right?
Dave:What is that?
Mitch:Come on, you know what that is.
Dave:What is that?
Mitch:Every married guy
has a cancer list. It's the first three women
you'd have sex with if your wife suddenly
died of cancer.
Dave:That's f**king sick.

Dave:You can't look
at other women.You can't talk
to other women. You can't even be interesting
around other women.Do everything in your
power to desexualize yourself.Wear a fanny pack,
drive a Prius, attach electronic devices to
your belt, whatever it takes. And if you find yourself
forced to talk to a woman, quickly find a way to mention
the fact that you're married. It doesn't even have to make sense.

Mitch:So I can't sleep with my wife, I
can't sleep with other women? What the hell is that?
Dave:Marriage.

Dave:You got any
more questions?
Mitch:Do you ever have any free time?
Dave:Have you listened to a single word I've said?
There is no free time. And at the end of the day,do you know what you get?
Mitch:A f**king gun with a bullet
to blow my head off with?
Dave:Sometimes you wish.

Mitch:When we were kids, Dave and I,
we had a lot of big plans.Dave, he was going
to be an astronaut, and I was going to sell
dolphins on the black market. There's a reason I'm
not selling dolphins. We live in Atlanta,
they're tough to find. And those things,
they don't sleep, which also makes it
real hard to catch them. But I think
that we all know that life doesn't always turn
out exactly how you plan it.Sometimes, just sometimes,it turns out better.Dave, think
there's a reason that you're not walking
on the moon right now. It's because you belong here,in your life, with that incredible woman
sitting beside you.

Baishey Srabon - He is Prosenjit and he is still the industry

Abhijit (Parambrata) comes to meet an ex cop in his house.Everything about that old house was scary. It was dark, swampy and strange. He knocks in and a voice says "Is that Kanai?".Abhijit goes in and sees a middle aged man sitting on a cushioned teak wood chair with a glass of whiskey in his hand.Seemed the man was sitting in that posture and sipping whiskey for many years and had grown old.He is ruling Bengali cinema for the past two decades and I don't think nobody else deserves the place even now.Probir Roychoudhury played by none other than the legend is the biggest birthday gift that he has gifted himself and of course to the Bengali movie audience who seldom goes to watch Bengali movies in theater.

Baishey Shrabon is a crime thriller though the tagline says "crhyme" thriller since the movie revolves around a case of serial killing where the murderer always leaves a poem by the dead body.Kolkata police being unable to solve the case asks for help from a suspended cop Probir.Probir is a typical angry misbehaved violent middle aged cop with a foul mouth. But he is smart.Bumbada as Probir Roy Choudhury is what made the movie a treat to watch. His acting skills style have all become so polished and splendid over the years.Whenever he is in a scene the mercury starts soaring.More over at this age he is still so hot.
Behind the success of Baishey Srabon there is one more man Srijit the director and writer of the movie.Next to Bumbada the dialogues are the real hero. The story is superb .The movie is very difficult to anticipate.Specially if its a crime thriller then I guess the work becomes more difficult.
As Bumbada was ruling the entire movie there were other actors whom I barely noticed but they were definitely good.I liked Abir in his small role.Parambrata,Raima too added to the goodness of the movie.Goutam Ghosh as an actor also deserves some praise. The music was good but the songs were spoiling the intensity of the movie.
Baishey Srabon is definitely a must watch but not with family.Bumbada wish you a very happy birthday and may God bless you.

Dylan(Justin Timberlake) lands in New York for a position in GQ.Jamie(Mila Kunis) a head hunter assists Dylan in his quest.Dylan being from LA was reluctant to work in NY.Jamie tries her best to make Dylan like NY and convinces him to take up the job.Dylan and Jamie starts meeting each other often and Dylan hits an idea that they can be friends and at the same time maintain a physical relationship without making any commitment. Both take oath over an i Pad version of Bible and get into their business immediately.Meanwhile Jamie starts dating a doctor(Don't know why the other guy in Rom-coms is always a Doctor) and finally has a heart break.Dylan comes to rescue and invites her to visit his home. What happens next anybody can guess. The second half of Friends with Benefits is largely inspired from How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Just Married.

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis both look great. It was good to see Mila Kunis in a substantial role after a long time.I liked her very much in Forgetting Sarah Marshall opposite Jason Segal.Interestingly Jason Segal does have a cameo appearance in this movie.I started watching this movie with lot of expectations largely because of its positive reviews but it was a big turn off at end.

Delhi Belly is a story of three friends and their bad luck.I have never seen anything like Delhi Belly in Bollywood before. It is written by Los Angeles based writer Akshat Verma and he has done a splendid job.The presentation of the movie is equally good. The dilapidated home where Tashi(Imaran Khan) and his lazy friends lived was very much real.Every character in the movie has a role to play and has been chosen wisely.Arups's irritating boss, the dance master living one floor above,Tashi's nagging girlfriend,Tashi's landlord everyone is equally important in the movie.Even small details has been well taken care like the 80's hero disco fighter with an ugly hairy body.
I liked the gangster played by Vijay Raaz.I loved his performance the most.First he delivers his dialogues in style and then the audience roars into laughter hearing the response. He tries to scare his enemies but consequences turns things into a mess.My next in the list is US based actress Poorna Jagannathan who plays Tashi's colleague Maneka. She has a style of her own and this simple looking girl really makes a lasting impression.Vir Das as Arup does not disappoint us.Specially when his throat gets choked and speaks in a strange tone every dialogue he delivers made the audience laugh at it.New comer Kunal Roy Kapur as Nitin is ok.But Imran Khan is not at all impressive. He is no where when compared with others and lacks the punch.Delhi Belly has very limited loose ends but I found the first 15-20 minutes not quite happening.Only when Vijay Raaz enters the movie picks pace and it was a treat to watch then on.Another shortcoming of the film was the slang used by most of the actors were in a milder tone and I felt as if the actors were shy in using them.Only Vijay Raaz outshines and delivers slang in proper Delhi accent.

Movieguide Rating

Delhi Belly is one of the best Bollywood movie I have ever seen. Its a must watch and has opened new avenues for Bollywood film making .A great piece of work and a treat for all.

The Adjustment Bureau - Quotes

The Adjustment Bureau is a fictional thriller movie.David Norris is running for US Senate and gets badly crushed by his opponent. At the same time he meets Elise at an awkward place.Sparks fly the moment they meet.Norris was not ready to leave her company but he had an interview to attend.Norris meets Elise again in a bus but before he can proceed any farther a group of strangely dressed men abducts him and warns Norris not to meet her.The group of men introduces themselves as The Adjustment Bureau who makes sure that things happen according to the plan their Chairman has written.

Though the movie has a very fancy story yet it preaches a simple lesson about free will in an interesting way. Here a few interesting quotes from the movie.

Norris :But that's okay because these are the same people who say that young people don't vote, young people don't care about politics, but I'm here to tell you, your future is about your choices, not theirs. So, today I'd like to put them on notice because come November,I want them to know that it was young people like you,who kicked their asses.

Norris :When you got in a fight,it wasn't whether or not you got knocked down,it's what you do when you get back up.And I came here to tell you tonight, that I will get back up.

Norris :Oh, you like politicians?
Elise :I like it when they do stuff I can relate to.
-Like pull their pants down?
- I love that.
Norris :See, that kind of candidate wouldn't
even get elected to the student council.

Norris :Well, losing has its advantages.
Elise :Like what?
Norris :For one thing, as a politician,
you're never really alone
unless you're asleep,
or in the bathroom usually.
That gets old.
Elise :Really?
Norris :Yeah, I guess I'm mostly just looking forward to having some time by myself.
I don't buy it. I think you love it.
Norris :Do I know you?

Norris :And since then, every story has tried to explain how I got here so fast. And the word that people kept using was "authentic." But here's the problem. This isn't even my tie.
- This tie was selected for me by a group of specialists in Tenafly, New Jersey who chose it over 56 other ties we tested.

Elise :Were you just staring at my legs while I slept?
Norris :I was defenseless against the small dress.
Elise :It's a skirt.
Norris :It's a belt.

Bureau member :We give you opportunities other people would kill for and you squander them with impulse.

Bureau member :We have time. Being early is just as bad as being late.

Bureau member :Can't outrun your fate, David.
Norris :I just disagree with you about what my fate is.I know what I feel for her and it's not going to change. All I have are the choices that I make. And I choose her come what may.

Bureau member :But once in a while, people like you come along who knock down all the obstacles we put in your way.People who realize free will is a gift you'll never know how to use until you fight for it.I think that's the Chairman's real plan that maybe one day we won't write the plan. You will.

The Hangover:Part II - More screwed more fun

While going for The Hangover:Part II I kept thinking if the sequel will be better than the original.Know what! Its a great sequel and a definite watch for all Hangover fans. The movie starts with the same phone call only to mention that Stu,Phil and Alan are in deep trouble.
This time its Stu's wedding in Thailand. So Stu invites Phil and Doug to join him for a visit to Thailand.Phil insists for a bachelor party but Stu wanted to play safe and arranges for a bachelor brunch in an ordinary restaurant.Doug never complained but he wanted that Stu should invite Alan for the marriage.Stu finally decides to invite Alan with a grudge and the trio visits his place only to find those Vegas photos displayed boldly on his walls. However Alan,Stu,Phil and Doug leaves for Thailand and at the airport Stu introduces his brother-in-law Teddy.Teddy is his daddy's pet and a so called genius and most important Alan dint like him at all.In Thailand Lauren's (Stu's fiancee) family throws a grand dinner party.Lauren's father hated Stu and dint consider him as a doctor. Moreover he goes one step ahead to admit that Stu is boring and compares him with a variety of rice which is fed to infants and old people.Alan reacted to this and started his own speech after pulling out a few cards from his pocket. But his friends interrupted him as he started disclosing their Vegas secrets. After an eventful dinner the wolf pack decides to go for a walk along with Teddy on the beach. They had beer with marshmallows only to wake up in a dilapidated house in Bangkok.

Hangover-II keeps referring to the original very often and that's the beauty of the sequel. The storyline is almost same as the original but here the things happen in a different way.But this edition is funnier and more insane. The drug dealing monkey deserves a special mention as I have never seen anything so strange. It smokes and does crazy things.Alan is the central comic character and keeps other guys busy with his psychic ideas.Phil keeps his head busy and tries to find what happened the night before but at the same time he had to manage Alan and Stu also.Stu concludes that there is definitely a demon in him which comes out only when he is in a trance and so he is not a boring dentist with boring bunch of friends. The movie ends in its own typical way where the wolf pack decides to see the pictures of the night for one last time and then delete them.Hangover-II is a must watch.

Fast 5 aka Fast and Furious 5 is a perfect film to satisfy your appetite for action flicks this summer.Fast and furious 4 was a bit of disappointment as it was not up to the mark except the opening scene with the oil tanker.Fast 5 begins just where it ended last time.It is special among all editions of this series in many ways.Fast 5 does not talk of complex car design concepts and no street racing which were very prevalent in the past sequels. Moreover it contains a lot of humor. To summarize Fast 5 is an orthodox Hollywood action movie.Above all Vin Diesel just rocks.

The story is set in Brazil where Dominic and O'Conner take shelter with Mia after escaping the cops.Dominic and O'Conner decides to pull one last job and buy their freedom. They target to rob a notorious businessman Reyes. They assemble a team to steal $100 million from Reyes.Reyes hides all his money in a vault inside a police station after Dominic warns of stealing them all.Meanwhile The government sends special agent Hobbs(Dwayne Johnson) behind Dominic.Dominic and his team collects details of the vault before they launch the final assault. But on the very day Hobbs breaks in and smashes their plan.
The action sequences are amazing the most notable being stealing cars from a running train. The final act on the bridge is also superb. What I liked most was Vin Diesel vs Dwayne Johnson one on one.The climax is superb where Hobbs finds an empty vault and starts smiling.I found that Fast 5 has a striking similarity with The Italian Job and pulling a vault using two cars quite odd.
Yet if you are in a mood for an out and out action movie then nothing better suits your bill than this.If you are a Fast and Furious fan then you should not miss this sequel. Also don't leave your seat till the movie ends as there is something at the other side of the credits.

Last weekend I watched Life Goes On after a long wait. The movie caught my attention as a Bengali music channel was airing a Tagore song "Sokhi Bhabona Kahare Bole" translated in Hindi. The star-cast is the next big attraction of the movie which made me long for it.Life Goes On boasts of having an eminent and veteran crew which includes Sharmila Tagore,Girish Karnad and Om Puri. Also Soha Ali Khan plays reel life daughter to Sharmila Tagore. So for a Bengali movie fan you just cant say no.Life Goes On is an English movie directed by UK based debutant director Sangeeta Datta.I learned Sangeeta Datta is an author who has also worked as assistant director in movies like Chokher Bali,Raincoat and Antarmahal.

Life Goes On is a family drama with a social message. The plot is loosely based on King Lear and Soha Ali Khan is also shown playing an ACT from the play. Its the story of an Indian family based in London.Dr Sanjay Banerjee played by Girish Karnad lives in a beautiful house with his wife Manju(Sharmila Tagore) and three daughters Lolita,Tulika and Dia.Banerjee shares a strong bonding with his old pal Alok(Om Puri) so the later was also like a family member. But the entire family is shocked and grief stricken due to the sudden demise of Manju.Manju boudi as fondly called by Alok was the glue factor in the family.Dr Banerjee always used to be busy with his career and social works. He never had time for his family. As as a consequence the Banerjee daughters always shared their fears and problems with their maa and not with baba. But all hell break loose when the daughters don't have their maa to mediate between them and their father.Dr Banerjee starts learning one by one about the troubles his daughters are going through in a time when he himself was suffering from loneliness. The difficult time teaches him some valuable lessons and he changes himself to be better and stronger man by conquering his irrational fears.
Life Goes On is a movie where everyone is going through some sort of struggle.Sharmila Tagore as Manju boudi is the heart of the movie.Even now she looks stunning with her big red bindi and elegant pair of glasses. The Tagore songs pictured on her comes to life with her grace.Girish Karnad plays a rock solid stubborn father with an equal rigidity. The Tagore quotes in his voice is mesmerizing.Om Puri's performance as a happy go lucky guy is also notable. The way he hides his pain with his foolish jokes is sure to win hearts.Life Goes On brings out many sensitive and intriguing parts of Bengali culture in an elegant way and left open for the global audience to enjoy.I read somewhere that the Tagore songs in the movie is first translated by Sangeeta Datta into english and Javed Akhtar has rewritten the lyrics in hindi yet they sound as beautiful as the original.Life Goes On is very impressive and a job well done.

The Fighter is a true story of two brothers Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund played by Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale respectively. The movie expounds Micky's road to Welterweight Championship.
The fighter begins with HBO making a documentary on Dicky who used to be the pride of Lowell.Dicky was training Micky for his upcoming fight.Dicky was crack addicted and was never on time for the training sessions.Micky was fully dependent on his elder brother and believed he can't win a single fight without him.Meanwhile Micky meets Charlene played by the very attractive Amy Adams.Charlene makes him understand that his brother and mom are both screwing his career instead of putting it on track.Micky decides to leave his family and travel to LA for a year round boxing training. But Dicky interferes and convinces him not to go to LA.Unfortunately Dicky gets busted and Micky gets badly hurt during a tussle with the cops.Micky quits his family and decides to go on his own with Charlene.
One strong reason to watch The Fighter is Christian Bale. His Academy Award winning performance is truly amazing. As a crack addict he just rules the movie with a great performance.Bale has been phenomenal in the movie. The way he trains his brother seems as if he is a real pro.The relationship between Micky and Dicky is quite freaky. But their bonding is the real prize of the movie.Mark Wahlberg got a little side lined mainly because of Bale but still he can't be ignored.Melissa Leo as Alice the dominating mother of Micky and Dicky quite suited the role.Amy Adams as the protective girl friend was also acceptable. The Fighter is a must watch.

Arthur:The best jobs are the one's nobody ever knows you were there.

Harry:You do need companionship.
Arthur:I have you, Harry.
Harry:Then, you in deeper shit than I thought.

VICTORY LOVES PREPARATION

McKENNA:What kind of person shoot someone in a wheelchair, anyway?

Arthur:Stupid to kill someone if you have a motive.Might as well paint a bulls eye on your back.

Arthur:You know what a Mechanic is,aside of its obvious definition?
McKENNA:A guy who fix his things, problems, its contracts.
Arthur:A hitman.I do assignments.

Arthur:What I do requires a certain mindset.Revenge is an emotion that can get you killed.

Arthur:Good judgment comes from experience and all of that comes from bad judgment.

McKENNA:Who was he?
Arthur:A job. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sebastian:It's not the fact that you killed him, is it?It's that they played you easily. That's what bothers you.

Arthur:There is a gun under the left-side cushion. It's loaded and the safety's off.
McKENNA:But I'm not a lefty.
Arthur:Then you gonna die.

McKENNA:I guess it doesn't really matter anyway,as long as they're dead and you not, right?

Dean:Harry's death is business.Pure and simple.
Arthur:It's not gonna be so simple now.

Dean:You get that right. Cause now I'm gonna put a price on your head. It's so big when you look in the mirror, your
reflection are gonna shoot you in the face.

As a kid Kathy liked Tommy. But Ruth was jealous of Kathy and Tommy's friendship.Ruth slowly draws Tommy towards her seeing this Kathy retreats and becomes isolated.Slowly three of them grow up as teens and are moved to cottages where they meet students from similar schools. From them they learned that they are scientific specimens grown in laboratories. Also they learn of a probable deferral program if a couple can prove that they are in true love.Meanwhile Kathy decides to be a carer who is supposed to take care of donors.Kathy leaves her friends for carer training and becomes very much busy with her assignments. She feels immensely proud of the good work she was doing before she becomes a donor herself.During one of her visit to a hospital she accidentally comes across Ruth's record and discovers the later to be in the same hospital.Kathy meets Ruth who successfully completed one donation.Together they decide to make a trip to the nearby sea beach along with Tommy. At the beach Ruth confesses that she intentionally kept Tommy and Kathy apart as she never wanted them to be together and herself to be left behind. She asks Tommy and Kathy to be together and apply for the deferral program and hands over a leaflet containing an address where they can apply for the same.
The film's only ingredient is pain and suffering. The film always makes you feel special and gifted. We might be having so many troubles in our daily life yet we should never forget that life is beautiful.Never Let Me Go helps you to look at life in a more positive way that's why I liked the movie so much. Before I close the review I leave you with some beautiful lines from Kathy.
"My first donation is in a month's time.I come here and imagine that this is the spot where everything I've lost since my childhood has washed up.I tell myself if that were true, and I waited long enough, then a tiny figure would appear on the horizon across the field and gradually get larger until I'd see it was Tommy. He'd wave and maybe call.I don't let the fantasy go beyond that.I can't let it to have had any time with him at all. What I'm not sure about is if our lives have been so different from the lives of the people we save.We all complete.Maybe none of us really understand what we've lived through or feel we've had enough time. When we are scattered afar and asunder.Parted are those who are singing today. When we look back and forgetfully wonder What we were like in our learning and play.Oh, the great days.Days of fresh air in the rain and the sun.How we rejoiced as we struggled and panted.Echoes of dreamland.Hailsham lives on."

Yes I dared to review Dhobi Ghat

Dhobi Ghat left me with a mixed feeling.Neither I could hate it nor love it.As said by the director its definitely not for everyone. Its a tale of a city with three intermingled stories. This reminds me of the movie New York I Love You released last year.Dhobi Ghat revolves around Arun the painter played by Amir Khan,Shai a NRI played by Monica Dogra,Munna a washer boy played by Prateik and Yasmeen a housewife played by Kriti Malhotra.Arun meets Shai at his own art exhibition and after a one night stand Shai falls for the painter.Munna is a wannabe film star and has known Arun for the past four years.Shai comes to know of Munna's acquaintance with Arun and uses him to reach Arun.Meanwhile Munna and Shai become good friends and Munna starts liking Shai.Arun shifts to a new house and finds some video tapes belonging to the past residents of the flat.Arun finds the tapes quite interesting and starts drawing inspirations from them.
Kiran Rao is definitely a good story teller. But alas I was not able to get the big picture. It seems she is very much influenced by veteran filmmakers like Ritwik Ghatok,Goutam Ghosh for her deep Kolkata connection. As a debutant director its definitely a giant step forward and she deserves all the credit.
Dhobi Ghat shows a very different Mumbai. But I missed Shiv Sena a lot. They might add it if they plan for a sequel. We are very much used to see the bloody side of Mumbai thanks to Ram Gopal Verma.Dhobi Ghat's Mumbai is quite refresing. It correctly depicts the struggle of the common people and their hardships.Mumbai in Yasmeen and Shai's eye is the best part of the movie.
Dhobi Ghat is Prateik's movie. He outshines all others as Munna.Even Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra are also quite good. But I dint like Aamir Khan in the movie.Arun should have been done by someone else but not him.Firstly he does not look like a painter with his well maintained physique and crew cut hair.Secondly his smoking cigarettes looks so fake. The background score of the film has been done by Gustavo Alfredo who has two Academy under his belt.
Again Dhobi Ghat is definitely not for all and I don't know for whom it is.But one thing for sure its for the Film Festivals.

Best movies of Bollywood 2010

Making a list of best Bollywood movies of 2010 was quite something.Every movie that came out this year were a piece of trash except a few.Its confusing as here movies like Dabangg becomes blockbuster while Udaan goes unnoticed. After a lot of toil here goes my list of top movies that released in 2010.

Anjaana Anjaani - A romantic comedy copied from various Hollywood movies like Girl On The Bridge and Serendipity. But its presentation with Bollywood masala was good.So its the best Indianised version of western rom com

Band Baaja Baaraat - An ordinary romantic comedy with an easily predictable storyline. The reason for including Band Baaja is Bittu Sharma(Ranveer Singh).I liked the way Bittu Sharma was confused with women and life.

Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? - A splendid comedy with outstanding performance from Paresh Rawal is worth watching many times.

Tere Bin Laden - A low budget comedy featuring the Paki singer-actor Ali Zafar surprised me with subtle comedy and simple story.Pradhuman Singh as Osama was the biggest asset of the movie. If you have not watched it just give it a try.

Ishqiya - A rustic drama that came out early this year touched everyone. The film will be remembered for giving us the famous line "Dil to bachha hai ji".

The Japanese Wife - This Aparna Sen directed Bengali melo drama is my personal best.Rahul Bose proved his talent once again.A slow paced movie but worth a watch.

Love Sex Aur Dhokha - I like this movie because of its unique style of filming.Dibakar Banerjee rocks.

Phas Gaya Re Obama - One of the best comedy of 2010 with smart performances by Razat Kapoor and Sanjai Mishra.India's take on recession was the best of all the recession themed movies that came out in 2010 both from Hollywood and Bollywood.

Do Dooni Chaar - The Duggal's will be remembered for what they did to buy a car.Rishi Kapoor as a mediocre teacher rules the movie and proves he can still deliver hits single handedly.Like father like son.

Golmaal 3 - The most awaited comedy of 2010 dint dissapoint. It lived up to expectation and went out to be a blockbuster.

Raajneeti - This multi starrer political drama by Prakash Jha was in news for a long time for all the good and bad reasons. With outstanding performances by Ranbir Kapoor,Ajay Devgan and Manoj Bajpai this movie went out to be a blockbuster hit.

Udaan - Finally the buck stops here as Udaan is the best movie that rolled out this year. The story of Rohan who aspired to be a poet and his struggle to discover himself while living with his oppressive father moved me a lot.Udaan with a well spun story and stupendous performance by Ronit Roy,Rajat Barmecha and Aayan Boradia is a must watch.

Bollywood seems to be obsessed with physical disabilities. The trend started with Taare Zameen Par then there was Paa,My Name is Khan and the most recent Guzaarish. Some expect the audience to sympathise with the protagonists while movies like Golmaal,Krazzy 4 make fun of them.Bollywood will never get rid of its formulae movies.Previously it was sarso ki khet and now various syndromes and the most common being Alzheimer. Then enters SLB.Oh!He is the most successful film maker on such subjects.Khamoshi where the female lead's parents were physically disabled.Black where female lead was blind and male lead had Alzheimer.Guzaarish where the male lead is quadriplegic.Bollywood movies are so much knowledge oriented you know.I came to know so many complex disabilities only after watching movies.

Guzaarish is based on a very emotional and sensitive topic which we all need to think upon but as a movie it was horrible. Many things about Guzaarish is not at all acceptable. The movie seemed boring and dragging at times.I found only the last 30 minutes quite gripping. It would have been a masterpiece if it was a short film.I am sick of the blue walls and the dark interiors of SLB movies. At times I feel like I am watching some sequel of Black. The movie title changes but not the walls and interiors. The movie tries hard to make us feel for Ethan but it went in vain.Running a radio station from home is quite interesting and funny.Ash looked anything but not a nurse. It was difficult to understand that Ethan was bankrupt unless his lawyer told that. The songs were too bad.The comedy scenes were not required and were embarrassing at times.
I loved Hrithik and Ash's chemistry and their performances. The climax was good. But I have few likes for this movie.Do watch it and send in your comments.
Selling pain and sufferings of physically challenged people is no good. They don't need our symapthy but should be treated at par.If film makers really feel for them why don't they cast them instead of casting top notch actors.

Go....go......go......Golmaal !!! Ya Its back and back with a bang.Golmaal 3 is the third part of the Rohit Shetty directed comedy trilogy.I loved the first edition.Golmaal Returns was OK.G3 is better than Golmaal 2 but not as good as Golmaal.G3 retains the cast and crew from Golmaal Returns and the new additions include Mithun Chakroborty,Ratna Pathak and Kunal Khemu.
G3 starts with the familiar scene of selling solution sheets to college students.Arshad Warsi(Madhav),Kunal Khemu(Laxman) and Tushar Kapoor(Lucky) are sons of Mithun(Pritam) who drives a bus.Ajay Devgan(Gopal) and Shyeyas Talpade(La...la...Laxman) are the sons of Ratna Pathak(Guddi).Kareena Kapoor(Daboo) is a friend of Gopal and Laxman.By strange coincidence whatever business Gopal starts he finds Madhav as his competitor. They keep clashing frequently and slowly become strong enemies of each other.Things go Golmaal when Pritam discover his 70's love interest Guddi.Daboo tries to get Guddi and Pritam married without informing their kids and things get more complicated.
G3 like other editions excels in using the popular phrase "maa ki...".Though some of the jokes are quite dry yet in some sequences its so hilarious that it made me fall from my chair. The scene where Pritam and Guddi were watching Hum Saath Saath Hai on tv while behind their kids were pretending to push strange things up each others a** was the best.Guddi and Pritam's love story in flashback was also superb. The twisted dialogues of yesteryear's were really enjoyable. The famous dialogue "Naam hai mera Prem,Prem Chopra" started quite a giggle through the theatre.Johny Lever's spoof on Ghazini was a boring sometimes but quite refreshing otherwise. In spite of having so many comedians and actors G3 still draws it energy from the two leading men Arshad Warsi and Ajay Devgan.Arshad is a natural comedy hero while Ajay is a versatile actor. Both of them shine even in such a huge star cast.Kunal Khemu is ok but his funny poems were immensely powered to irritate someone in no time. One special mention goes to Tushar Kappor who has graduated himself in playing the role of a mute.He has an extended role in G3 and does his part very well.
G3 is mindless comedy movie to be enjoyed with family and a pruned Diwali release. So just enjoy the movie and have a good time.

Jacob:"Waking up is positive, not sleep is negative."

Winnie:"Home Loan Default is but the first raindrop from the mother of all storms".

Louis:"The world is full of crap".

Louis:"A television or other figure is like he knows something.
He sells fear and panic.Idiots feel great".

Jacob:"Are we going bankrupt?"
Louis:"You ask the wrong question".
Jacob:"What is the right question?"
Louis:"Who does not".

The best part of the movie Gekko's speech :

Gekko:"You're all pretty much f***ed.You know it,
but you are the generation of ninja...
No income, no job and no assets.
You have much to look forward to.

Blood Money,
but then your blood.

Someone reminded me recently on
I would have said, "greed is good '.
But now it seems to have been lawful.
By greed buy my bartender
three houses he can not afford.
He has no money on hand.
By greed finance your parents
their $ 200,000 home for $ 250,000.
With the extra 50,000 they go to shop
to buy a plasma TV cell phones, computers
and an SUV why not even a second home?

The house prices in America
still increases only.

Because of greed government reduces
interest rates to 1% after September 11
So we all went to go spend.

They all have expensive terms for
trillions of dollars in payments CMO, CDO, SID, ABS 75 people in the world know
but what they mean.
I'll tell you what they stand for.
WMD. Mass Destruction Weapons.

Mr. banker looks around
and says, 'my life is pretty boring'.So he screwed his interest to
40 to 50, with your money not his own,but your money.
Because he can.
You would have to borrow. They do not.
And best of all,
no one is responsible.
Because everyone drinks the same Kool Aid.

The truth is that we all
part of it the banks, consumers, they spend their money
all go around in circles.
We'll take one U.S. dollar, syringes filled with
steroids and call it profit.
I call it steroids banking.

I'm smart when it comes to finance.

Maybe I'm too long in prison, sometimes
it is the only place to stay normal. If you look through those bars and says:
"Hey, is everybody mad?
So clearly it is, for those who
clearly pay attention

Speculation is the mother of all evil

'Leverage Debt'.

What it comes down to is borrowing
to the maximum.

What I also find annoying, but it is
a bankrupt business, it does not work it is systematic, malignant
and it's worldwide as cancer. It's a disease and we
have to fight it.
How can this be done?
How do we affect the disease,
the benefit of ourselves.
I'll tell you.
In three words...
buy my book."

Gekko:"She's at night beside your bed watching you,
with one eye open.
Money is a bitch that never sleeps.
She is jealous, and if you do not pay attention,
you'll wake up and she's gone".

Jacob's Mom:"Your father is defending
as the defense of smallpox".

Jacob:"I remember that I
looked up at the hospital after school and thought, how tough is
that my mother who saves lives".
Jacob's Mom:"Do not change the subject.I do not save lives".
Jacob:"But you did and that's what counts".

Jacob:"Everyone has a song that is
often a round number. So, what is yours"?
Bretton:"More".

Gekko:"A fisherman always see another angler
from afar".

Gekko:"Relationships are like bubbles.
They're fragile".

Gekko:"He has an ego as big as
Antartica. Like me".

Gekko:"Parents are the bones on which
children sharpen their teeth".

Gekko:"You know what they say.
Bulls make money bears make money, and pigs
be slaughtered".

"It's an economic Pearl Harbour".

Bretton:"Are you an idealist or a capitalist"?
Jacob:"I'm a realist".

Gekko:"If it about money, boy, you go
eyes shine just like mine".

"The government is worse as a woman".

Jacob:"I thought Betton was a creep,
but when I met you.I can not believe someone
sell his own daughter".

Jacob:"How much money you earn,
you'll never be rich".
Gekko:"That's what you never understood.
It's not about the money. It's about the game.
The game between people".

"What is the definition of insanity?
Is that still do the same and
then expect a different outcome?
According to this view,most
of us are insane".

PS:Some of the quotes are not exact replication of the screenplay

Do Dooni Chaar - Thumbs Up

Do Dooni Chaar is a simple movie with a feel good factor. After a long list of trash releases over the past few months Bollywood has something good to offer.Do Dooni depicts the struggle of a middle class family to buy a car.The family in question is the Duggals.Papa Duggal played by Rishi Kapoor is a maths teacher in a private school.Mama Duggal is very sweet and played by Neetu Kapoor.Payal and Sandeep are their two kids. The movie touches every small details of a middle class family very carefully.Specifically the financial crisis of the Duggals is shown brilliantly.Do Dooni has a very high class of comedy along with strong social messages.

All the problems start when Mr Duggal's sister invites them to a marriage at her home.To add to the trouble she asks them to come in a car which they dint have. But somehow Duggals manage to borrow a car from their neighbor. While returning the car it crashes with a wall with minor dents. This results in altercations and Mr Duggal promises to buy a car within 15 days to stop his neighbor.Mr Duggal has no money and buying a car is impossible. But how the Duggals get their car is a fun ride.

The movie is for the aam admi(common people). It was very easy to identify each and every character in the movie with someone in my real life. That truly is the success of the movie. How much pain a common man goes through to bring up his kids and getting them educated in top notch schools with hi profile fees is really a sad story.Giving it a comic look is more difficult.Do Dooni also enlightens the plight of teachers in our country. How they make good boys from bad boys who later earns in Dollars but the teacher still remains at the same place with the same salary.
Do Dooni connects us to bonding in our family. The occasional fights between brother-sisters and husband-wife and contrary to it the unexpressed love that keeps them together.Supporting each other at time of crisis is the true face of a family.
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor rocks as usual. But other crew members are amazing. They are so thorough looks like professional actors.
Do Dooni is a good family movie and worth watching.

How many times does it occur that you come out of a theatre and you cant stop thinking about the movie `you just saw. This is exactly what happens after you see Inception.Inception doesn't end when the curtains are down.It starts a thought process which keeps running in your brain and leaves you with millions of unanswered questions. The success of Inception lies in the fact that it plays with your wit.Its a typical Nolan film where you just don't enjoy the movie if you have left your brain at home. You have to constantly think and watch as the movie unveils.
I dint understand the movie wholly and I bet its happening with everyone.Coming home I read the plot in wikipedia and few other reviews from prominent movie sites and learned that there are several interpretation of the movie.

Inception's theme is dream. The movie first explains about various terms and concepts like extractor, totem, limbo, dream architect and then leaves the audience with a problem to crack like a typical maths text book.Cobb the protagonist is a thief who enters into dreams of subjects and then steal sensitive data from them.He works for Saito a business giant.Saito gives Cobb a mission to plant an idea otherwise called Inception into the mind of Robert Fischer so that he will split the Fischer Empire and eventually help in rise of Saito.Just like any other project this too starts with team building and recruitment.Cobb starts finding for a dream land architect,a forger and a chemist. After roping in the people Cobb starts formulating a plan. After long hours of discussions and exercises they finally come out with a plan and decide to plant the inception in a ten hour long flight.
Cobb's current mission was bit difficult and was never done before.First of all it was not stealing data but the reverse of that.Secondly they wanted to simulate a dream within a dream.Cobb and his smart team execute his plan and come back to the real world safe and sound.Cobb and his wife's relationship adds to the complication of the movie. She is dead but how she died is a bit of mystery which is unfolded at climax. The most confusing part of Inception is it's abrupt end.Cobb's totem spinning on the table leaves us with questions if he is still dreaming or back to real world.
Leonardo Di Caprio is at his career best.I liked him in Shutter Island. He outshines himself in Inception.Joseph Gordon the chocolate boy from 500 days of summer executes this serious role with confidence.Actually the plot is so rich that its difficult to find flaws in individual performances. The story moves so fast that sometimes its difficult to catch up with its pace. The gravity defying action sequences is a treat to watch.Nolan's creation of a dreamland and the paradoxical architectures exhibited in the movie is amazing.
All credit for success of Inception goes to Christopher Nolan. He did it in past and has done it again. His unique style of story telling and the quality of mystery he creates with his story is an experience of a different kind.Inception is a true blockbuster and I would love to see it again and again.

Khatta Meetha - I want back my ticket money

Khatta Meetha is a two in one movie where pre-interval you get a comedy film and post-interval a political thriller. But unfortunately both halves fail to impress. The movie is quite a hoch-poch where too many plots are let loose at the same time. Some of them reach the climax but most of them do not.
Coming to the story Sachin Tichkule played by Akshay Kumar is a notorious civil contractor. He has borrowed money from almost everyone in the locality and hopes that a time will come when he will become a big contractor.Tichkule filed a case against the Municipality Office for not paying his unpaid bills.Tichkule's only ray of hope was a new Municipality Commissioner who was supposed to take charge and bring a change in his penniless business. But to his utter misery the new commissioner turns out to be his ex girlfriend Gehna Ganphule played by southern heart throb Trisha. No body likes Sachin Tichkule. At home he is a worthless good for nothing family member. His workers hate him.Every single person from peon to commissioner in Municipality office is his enemy. All of a sudden Tichkule wins the case against city Municipality and the court orders them to pay all his bills. The office didn't have money and so the court asks them to give their road roller to Tichkule. Then follows some meaningless comic scenes surrounding the road roller. The film suddenly turns a bit serious towards interval and altercations between Ganphule madam and Tichkule turns into a death match. On the other hand Tichkule's youngest sister dies a mysterious death in her sasuraal.Tichkule and Ganphule madam make a quick patch up and form a team to fight bad guys. What follows next is a usual hindi masala formula where the hero fights against the villains to protect the truth.
Khatta Meetha has nothing new.Sometimes its very difficult to judge whats happening and why.The movie has so many characters and very difficult to follow each and every plot. Most of the comic scenes looks like added forcively like song sequences and don't go in sync with the story.I hated the second half as it was too serious and violent. The movie carries a message but we are tired of hearing such messages and its nothing out of the box.
Coming to performances Akshaye Kumar is good.So is Trisha,Rajpal Yadav,Urvashi Sharma and several other crew members. But the story fails to impress and leaves the audience clueless. My advice will be not to watch it in theatre and wait for the DVD release.
