Environmental Leadership Workshop 2012

Champions are advocates of change. The creation of champions has proven to be an effective strategy in environmental advocacy and other areas of development work. Champions serve as leaders who bring vital issues and concerns to the attention of those within their sphere of influence. The role of climate change adaptation (CCA) champions at the local level is especially important. This training-workshop was created in response to the growing need to widen awareness and spark collective action at the local level towards developing initiatives that can strengthen the region’s capacity to cope with the risks presented by climate change in agriculture, rural development and natural resources management. It will develop Southeast Asian nationals to play strategic roles in their respective countries toward instituting policies and leading initiatives that primarily focus on CCA in the agriculture and natural resources management sectors

INTENDED PARTICIPANTS
Thirty (30) local executives, development planners, technical advisors and researchers who:
1. display leadership potential; and
2. are affiliated with a government, non-government or policy-oriented organization that is actively involved
in sustainable agriculture, rural development and natural resource management (NRM) at the local

OBJECTIVES
The training-workshop aims to develop local-level champions who can push for the development and implementation of CCA policies and initiatives in their respective locales/areas of responsibility. Specifically, it aims to:
1. Provide participants with core climate science concepts for them to have a better
understanding of the climate change phenomenon and its impact on agriculture
and NRM;
2. Discuss CCA concepts and various knowledge-based strategies and techniques
available in managing the risks brought about by climate change; and
3. Broaden the participants’ perspectives on agricultural and natural resource management and leadership.

HOW TO JOIN THE TRAINING-WORKSHOP
You may join the training-workshop either as a fee-paying participant or a fellowship grantee. Application for the fellowship grant is competitive. There is no assurance that all applicants will be granted the fellowship.

Course Fee
Application period to join the training-workshop as a fee-paying participant is 01September to 13 December 2011. Below are the course fee rates:

Live-in rate: US$460.00 Includes cost of tuition, airport transfers, full board & lodging
Live-out rate: US$440.00 Includes cost of tuition, airport transfers, training meals
Subsidized live-in rate: US$280.00
Subsidized live-out rate: US$265.00

Available only to employees of government institutions in any of the SEAMEO member countries, i.e., Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.

Fellowship Grant

Nationals of the 11 SEAMEO member countries are eligible for the SEARCA fellowship grant. Three (3) grants are open to Thai nationals and one (1) grant is open to nationals from the other SEAMEO member countries. The grant will cover the grantee’s round-trip economy-class plane ticket and/or land travel expenses, full board and lodging, and cost of tuition.

Application period
for the fellowship grant is from 01 September to 30 November 2011.

The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University has opened our yearly call for fellowship applications. This opportunity is for those who wish to spend the 2012-2013 academic year as a fellow conducting research with the Berkman community.

We invite people who are working on issues related to Internet and society who are familiar to us as well as those who are not; those working on issues that overlap with ongoing Berkman interests and those who will expose us to new opportunities and approaches; scholars, practitioners, innovators and others committed to understanding and advancing the public interest; and people just beginning their work, in the midst of it, or eager to reflect.

Through this annual open call, we seek to advance our work and give it new direction, and to deepen and broaden our community.

About Berkman’s Fellowship Program

Berkman Center fellowships provide the opportunity for innovative thinkers and changemakers to hone and share ideas, find camaraderie, and spawn new initiatives. The program aims to encourage and support fellows in an inviting and rigorous intellectual environment, with community activities designed to foster inquiry and collaboration. With Berkman faculty, students, staff, and other affiliates, fellows help to develop and advance Berkman Center projects, and learn and teach through courses, curricula and diverse gatherings.

Together fellows actively participate in exchanges through a weekly fellows hour, various online media, fellows-run working groups, and a wide-range of events and interactions. Much of what makes the fellowship program rewarding is created each year by the fellows themselves to address their own interests and priorities. About Berkman Fellowships

An appointment that defies one-size-fits-all description, each Berkman fellowship carries a unique set of opportunities, responsibilities and expectations. All fellows engage issues related to the fairly limitless expanse of Internet & society issues, and are committed to the intellectual life of the Center and fellowship program activities. Some fellows work as researchers directly on Berkman Center projects. Other fellowships consist of independent work, such as the research and writing of a manuscript or series of papers, an event, or the development and implementation of a project or a study on issues related to the Berkman Center’s areas of inquiry. Each Berkman fellow develops and coordinates their fellowship workplan with the Center’s directors and staff.

Fellowship terms typically run the course of the academic year, roughly from the beginning of September through the end of May. In some cases, the period of appointment does not align with the US academic year. In some instances, fellows are re-appointed for consecutive fellowship terms.

While we embrace our many virtual connections, spending time together in person remains essential. In order to maximize their engagement with the community, fellows are expected to routinely spend time in and conduct much of their work from Cambridge, in most cases requiring residency. Tuesdays hold particular importance as it is the day the fellows community meets for a weekly fellows hour, in addition to it being the day we host our public luncheon series; as such, we ask that fellows commit to spending as many Tuesdays at the Center as is possible.

Qualifications

While fellowships are extremely competitive and our standards are accordingly high, we do not have a defined set of requirements for the fellows we select through our open call; we welcome applications from a wildly diverse pool of individuals.

Fellows come from across the disciplinary spectrum, different life paths, and are at all stages of career development. Some fellows are academics, whether students, post-docs or professors. Others come from outside academia, and include lawyers, philosophers, activists, technologists, entrepreneurs, journalists and other types of practitioners.

The commonality between all Berkman fellows is an interest in the Internet and a commitment to spending the period of their fellowship studying it.

The work and well-being of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society are strengthened profoundly by the diversity of our network and our differences in background, culture, experience, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, and much more. Stipends, Benefits, and Access to University Resources

Stipends: Fellowships awarded through the open call for applications are rarely stipended. Some fellows receive partial stipends –the award of such a stipend is based on the nature of the responsibilities the applicant would assume while a fellow, and their relation, relevance, and application to Berkman’s funded projects. Most fellows receive no direct funding or stipend through the Berkman Center, but rather have obtained funding through other means, such as an outside grant or award, a home institution, or other forms of scholarship.

Benefits: Fringe benefits do not routinely accompany Berkman fellowships. Fellows must make their own housing, insurance, childcare, and transportation arrangements.

Office Space: Most Berkman fellows work out of the greater-Boston area and spend a significant amount of time at the Berkman Center. There are many desks and workspaces available for flexible use at the Berkman Center, though few fellows are given their own permanent desk or office. We endeavor to provide comfortable and productive spaces for fellows to work, even if it is not the same space each day. Fellows are welcome to host small meetings and gatherings at the Center and on the Harvard campus.

Access to University Resources: A Harvard ID is a key into many of Harvard’s resources, including access to the Harvard library network (including checkout privileges and access to the University’s e-resources), the ability to purchase University health insurance, and the ability to purchase Harvard gym membership. At present, we are not able to routinely provide Harvard IDs to fellows, though some IDs are issued based on need, funding, and other administrative reasons. Berkman fellows bringing their own funding via scholarships or other financial support have the opportunity to pay the University appointment fees necessary to issue an ID. Physical access into Langdell Library (the Harvard Law School Library) can be arranged for all Berkman fellows. Berkman fellows wishing to audit classes at Harvard University must ask permission directly from the professor of the desired class.

2.) A personal statement which should a) frame your motivation for applying for a Berkman Center fellowship and b) outline the work you propose to conduct during a fellowship. This statement should be roughly 1,000 – 1,500 words or a multi-media equivalent.

The American College of Surgeons offers International Guest Scholarships to young surgeons from countries other than the United States or Canada who have demonstrated strong interests in teaching and research. The scholarships, in the amount of $10,000 each, provide the Scholars with an opportunity to visit clinical, teaching, and research activities in North America and to attend and participate fully in the educational opportunities and activities of the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress.

This scholarship endowment was originally provided through the legacy left to the College by Dr. Paul R. Hawley (FACS Hon), former College Director. More recently, gifts from the family of Dr. Abdol Islami (FACS), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and others to the International Guest Scholarship endowment have enabled the College to expand the number of scholarship awards.

The scholarship requirements are:

Applicants must be graduates of schools of medicine.

Applicants must be at least 35 years old, but under 45, on the date that the completed application is filed.

Applicants must submit their applications from their intended permanent location. Applications will be accepted for processing only when the applicants have been in surgical practice, teaching, or research for a minimum of one year at their intended permanent location, following completion of all formal training (including fellowships and scholarships).

Applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and/or research in accordance with the standards of the applicant’s country.

Early careerists are deemed more suitable than those who are serving in senior academic appointments.

Applicants must submit a fully completed application form provided by the College on its website. The application and accompanying materials must be typewritten and in English. Submission of a curriculum vitae only is not acceptable.

Applicants must provide a list of all of their publications and must submit, in addition, three complete publications (reprints or manuscripts) of their choice from that list.

Preference may be given to applicants who have not already experienced training or surgical fellowships in North America.

Applicants must submit independently prepared letters of recommendation from three of their colleagues. One letter must be from the chair of the department in which they hold academic appointment or a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons residing in their country. The chair’s or the Fellow’s letter is to include a specific statement detailing the nature and extent of the teaching and other academic involvement of the applicant. Letters of recommendation should be submitted by the person making the recommendation.

The application form is structured to assist the Scholarship Selection Subcommittee and assists the applicant in submitting a structured curriculum vitae. Additional information (a maximum of four pages) may be attached if desired.

The International Guest Scholarships must be used in the year for which they are designated. They cannot be postponed.

Applicants who are awarded scholarships are expected to provide a full written report of the experiences provided through the scholarships upon completion of their tours.

An unsuccessful applicant may reapply only twice and only by completing and submitting a current application form provided by the College, together with new supporting documentation.

The scholarships provide successful applicants with the privilege of participating in the College’s annual Clinical Congress in October 2013, with public recognition of their presence. They will receive gratis admission to selected postgraduate courses plus admission to all lectures, demonstrations, and exhibits, which are an integral part of the Clinical Congress. Assistance will be provided in arranging visits, following the Clinical Congress, to various clinics and universities of their choice.

Abdul Aziz Al-Mutawa Visiting Fellowship 2012

Applications for the academic year 2012-2013 are invited for Visiting Fellowships.

These are offered to support research in any area of the arts, humanities, or the social sciences that has relevance to the study of Islam or the Muslim world (particularly anthropology, economics, geography, history, international relations, law, literature, philosophy, politics, religion, and sociology).

Applications would normally be scholars or writers at the postdoctoral or equivalent level, but senior researchers are also eligible. An academic affiliation is not a necessary requirement.

Each Fellowship carries a stipend of £4,000 and membership of the Common Room. The stipend is intended as a supplementary award and may be held in conjunction with other research grants, stipends, or sabbatical salaries. Fellowships are tenable from 1 October 2012 for nine months, though shorter periods will be considered.

Ryoichi Sasakawa Scholarship 2013 for Developing Countries

The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), administered by Rochester Institute of Technology, was the world’s first technical institute oriented toward deaf people. Today it continues to be a leader in the field.

This scholarship program helps deaf people from developing countries, who can demonstrate financial need, to take part in an exchange program at NTID. Following graduation, recipients are required to return to their home countries to aid in the support of the deaf communities there.

The Program to Extend Scholarships and Training to Achieve Sustainable Impact (PRESTASI) is a fully funded program by United States Agency for International Development (USAID), implemented by The Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF). PRESTASI’s primary objective is to improve the performance and leadership skills of Indonesian professionals, which, in turn, will help to promote development in Indonesia.

Specifically, to provide training and technical services required to strengthen and expand the base of skilled, high-performing professionals and institutions in Indonesia’s public and private sector. Who is Eligible?

INPEX SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION was established in Tokyo, Japan, as nonprofit organization under the permission of the Minister of Education in Japan. based on the fund offered from INPEX Corporation (formerly Indonesia Petroleum. Ltd., renamed in September. 2001), in commemoration of its 15th Anniversary, with the objective to contribute to the understanding and friendly relations between the Republic of Indonesia and Japan by promoting and making mutual exchange of education. arts and science between the two countries.

Under its international cultural education exchange program. this FOUNDATION offers scholarships to Indonesian students who wish to study in the postgraduate course of university in Japan, and accepts the applicants for scholarships for 2012 on the following plan.

l. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
All of the following conditions should be satisfied.

Those who have the nationality of the Republic of Indonesia and have studied the course of Natural Science in the prestigious universities in Indonesia with more than 16 years of school education, and are not more than 30 years of age when application is submitted, having “SARJANA” Degree.
Those who have the aim to study the course of Natural Science in the master’s course of university in Japan, and were permitted or are expected to be permitted to enter the university.
Those who have excellent results of school record, (cumulative GPA : more than 3.0) .
Those who have been permitted to get the scholarship of the FOUNDATION by their belonging institutes, universities or companies.
Those who have interest in the friendly relations between the Republic of Indonesia and Japan and are prepared to contribute to the promotion of such relations.
Those who had not or have not been awarded other scholarships in Japan or in similar countries.

2. NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS TO BE ACCEPTED
Less than THREE (3) students will be accepted for the 2012 scholarship program.

3. PAYMENT AND STOPPAGE OF AWARD

The payment of school and living expenses will be made to the scholarship students during their study in Japan, based on the Regulation of Scholarship Award of this FOUNDATION.
The scholarship award in 2012 is as follows.
1. School expenses to be paid to the university such as entrance examination fee, entrance fee, tuition fee, etc. are all borne by the FOUNDATION.
2. Monthly award of Yen 160.000 is given to each student as living expenses, including lodging expenses, medical expenses, transportation fee. books. etc. Commuting pass expense is seperately borne by the FOUNDATION.
Air ticket (economy class, Jakarta-Tokyo) will be given to the scholarship students when coming to and leaving Japan. However, all other expenses necessary for travelling such as passport acquisition fee, visa fcc for entering Japan, etc. are to bc borne by the students.
A scholarship is awarded for up to two years and eight months maximum.
The payment of the award will commence from the date mentioned in the notification of acceptance, and is terminated on the date 30 days after the day of completion of study or research, the date leaving Japan or the expiration of 2 years and 8 months, Whichever occurs earlier.
In case the date of commencement or termination of the scholarship award is in the middle of the month, full amount will be given if the balance of days is more than half month, and half amount if the balance of days is less than half month.
The payment of scholarship award is stopped in the following cases.
1. When it becomes impossible for the students to continue study or research due to illness or failure in the examination to the master’s course or other reasons.
2. When the results of school record are poor.
3. When the professor in charge considers that the student is not qualified to continue studying or continue research.
4. In case the student is unsound and improper in his conduct.
5. When the student brings discredit to this FOUNDATION’s prestige and reputation.
Absence from Japan during grant period. Scholarship students may leave Japan temporarily during the grant period if such absence does not interfere with the purpose of the grant.
1. A total absence of up to 21 days per year after having passed the entrance examination to the master’s course will be allowed without any deduction in grant benefits.
2. A total absence in excess of 21 days per year will result in deduction of monthly award for the excess period accordingly.

4.SELECTION

The selection shall be made from the qualified applicants by examining application form, past school records, study plan, letter of recommendation, English proficiency test score and other documents. The FOUNDATION will favorably consider a positive recommendation letter by a prospective academic supervisor of a Japanese university which an applicant wishes to enter.
Selection procedures are as follows.
1. Primary Selection. To be made by the Screening Committee of the FOUNDATION on examining the documents.
2. Final Selection. To be made by the Board-Directors’ Meeting of the FOUNDATION.
3. All applicants will be notified of the results of the primary selection by the end of January 2012 and the final selection of the scholarship students by the end of March 2012.

6. LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE OF SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The candidates who passed the final selection by this FOUNDATION should submit a Letter of Acceptance of Scholarship Award to this FOUNDATION by the fixed date. In case of failure, he will automatically be disqualified as a candidate for the scholarship award.

7. COMMENCEMENT OF RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The grantees of the scholarship award should take up their scholarship during the course of 2012 Japanese fiscal year (up to March 31. 2013). Extension of the scholarship beyond the specified period will not be considered.

8. ARRIVAL ALLOWANCE
Yen 60.000 will be paid to each student, who are awarded 2012 scholarships by this FOUNDATION, upon his arrival at Tokyo.

9. COMPREHENSIVE ACCIDENT INSURANCE
When a student is awarded a scholarship by this FOUNDATION, comprehensive accident insurance will be taken out covering the student’s travelling between Jakarta and Tokyo. The amount to be insured is Yen 25,000,000 for Injury Death or Residual Disability.

10. ADVISORY PROFESSOR IN JAPAN
Tn case. an applicant has a prospective advisory professor in Japan, his name and the reason of asking for his advice must be mentioned in the application form.

11. LODGINGS
This FOUNDATION has no lodgings to accomodate the scholarship students. Housing problem is very serious in big cities in japan, and therefore, the student who is awarded the scholarship of this FOUNDATION should secure his lodgings beforehand through his advisors or acquaintances in Japan. This FOUNDATION will also help the scholarship student to find his suitable lodgings.

ACCEPTANCE OF FOREIGN STUDENTS IN JAPANESE UNIVERSITIES

Several of Japanese universities such as Waseda University, Keio University and Tokyo University of Agriculture have had long experience in accepting foreign students. At first, they admit their applicants as research students for six months, and let such students, whose knowledge of Japanese language is insufficient, mainly study Japanese language in the special course of the university. Then, at the end of special course, the research student must take a special entrance examination to the master’s course, usually for academic intellectual faculty and Japanese / English language proficiency. The examination usually involves an interview of the professor in charge. Only those who passed such special entrance examination are admitted entering the university as a regular student of the master’s course. Even after admitted, generally speaking, many classes are taught in Japanese, some explained in English, and some conrlneted in the mixed languages. The importance of studying the Japanese language throughout their campus life cannot be overstressed in addition to improving English proficiency. This FOUNDATION encourages its scholarship students to study Japanese language and extends financial assistance by the way of compensating Japanese language tuition fees immediately after selected.

Recently some of Japanese universities have opened a new course such as International Graduate course or Global Course for international students. They place their entrance examination and hold classes in English. Those universities do not necessarily specify how much proficiency in English is required but many deem that more than 550 TOEFL score record or the equivalent level in other English proficiency tests will be necessary. Even foreign students in International / Global Graduate Course will need a certain level of Japanese language proficiency to make the most of their living in Japan. A recent study shows that the higher fluency in Japanese language a foreign student acquire, the more fruitful life he can spend in Japan.

MASTER’S DEGREE IN JAPANESE UNIVERSITY

According to the educational system of Japan, the course for a master’s degree requires at least two years for study after graduation from a university (i.e. after completion of the whole course of 16 years conducted at school – 6 years in primary school. each 3 years in middle and high school and 4 ycars in faculty coursc of university).

The scholarship programme aims to contribute to the development of Indonesia through strengthening the human resources of Indonesian organisations. The StuNED Scholarship Program is part of the bilateral development co-operation between Indonesia and The Netherlands. The program enables professionals belonging to the target group to take a Master’s degree course or a postgraduate course at a university in the Netherlands to further enhance their professional knowledge and skills in areas that are critical for the development of the country. The Ancora-Khazanah Asia Scholarship is a collaboration between the Ancora Foundation and Yayasan Khazanah to allow Indonesians to pursue a four-year undergraduate education at leading Malaysian universities. It further provides a means for Khazanah and its group of companies to contribute towards the social development of the countries it has operational interests, especially Indonesia. In 2009, five candidates were selected from a field of around 500 applicants. They have several universities to choose from. VLIR-OUS awards scholarships to students from Africa, Asia and Latin-America to follow a training or master programme at a Dutch speaking university or university college in Belgium. The eligible training or master programmes are taught in English. They are designed for people in positions of responsibility in civil society.

The scholarships cover all related expenses. For application, please visit the website of the training or master programme. You can apply for a scholarship from October 2011 (master programmes) or November 2011 (master programmes organised at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and all training programmes). You can apply for a scholarship if you meet the following requisites:

You are a resident AND national of one of the countries on the country list (not necessarily the same country for residence and nationality). Please note that candidates must reside in one of these countries at the moment of application.
You are not older than 40 years* if you apply for a scholarship to follow a master programme. Or you are not older than 45 years* if you apply for a scholarship to follow a training programme. (* on 1 January 2012)
You have the required English proficiency. You need a proof of at least 1 year of comprehensive English-based instruction at a university or recognized equivalent. Previous scholarships: Prioririty will be given to the application of a candidate for a master programme who did not already has been granted a previous master scholarship. For a candidate for a training programme, the selection committee assesses the opportunity of a VLIR-UOS scholarship award, taking into consideration the candidates’ previous study and scholarship curriculum.
Gender: In case of two equally qualified candidates of different sexes, preference will be given to the female candidate. The selection commission will aim at a parity or relative balance between the number of men and the number of women awarded a VLIR-UOS scholarship.
Regional balance: The selection commission will try to ensure that 50% of a programme’s scholarships are granted to candidates from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Fujitsu Limited established the Fujitsu Scholarship Program in 1985 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding. The aim was to provide the opportunity for people from the Asia-Pacific region to contribute to the region through studying different values, cultures, and global business. This has been a Fujitsu’s key initiative for deepening the relationships between the countries and citizens of the Asia-Pacific region. This scholarship has since enabled 420 professionals from 18 countries to study cross-cultural management at JAIMS, the Japan-America Institute of Management Science, in Hawaii, U.S.A.

The Fujitsu Scholarship provides full financial assistance for postgraduate education and cross-cultural management training in the East-West Knowledge Leaders Program. It has a three-month curriculum , which synthesizes the best practices of both the East and West. The participants will sharpen their global management knowledge and skills, and build the confidence necessary for success in global business situations. The following applicants are exempt from submitting an English proficiency test score:

Airfare:
Fujitsu Ltd. will provide a round-trip air ticket to cover transportation from the participant's home country to Honolulu, and back. The selection of the air carrier and travel agent, including itinerary, is at the discretion of Fujitsu Ltd. In the event the participant wishes to change and/or expand the route and/or the period of stay, Fujitsu Ltd. reserves the right to withhold the original ticket.
Health Insurance:
Fujitsu Ltd. will provide medical insurance that covers a portion of the participant's medical expenses during the program period. The participant pays all medical expenses not covered by the medical insurance. The selection of the medical insurance plan is at the discretion of Fujitsu Ltd.
Housing Arrangements:
JAIMS will assist in locating appropriate housing in Honolulu for all participants. Fujitsu Ltd. will provide and pay for participant accommodations in Japan.
Visa Arrangements:
When applicable, participants will be assisted in obtaining the F-1 Student visa to enter the U.S. EWKLP participants will be assisted with the appropriate visa to enter Japan, if necessary. The expense of obtaining the visa is the financial responsibility of the participant.

Biology Scholarships for Overseas Students 2012

The Department of Biology will award up to five scholarships to overseas students for undergraduate entry in 2012 (or for deferred entry in 2013). Each scholarship is worth £1000 annually for the duration of the course*, subject to satisfactory academic progress. Successful applicants will be required to meet the balance of the costs of their course.

ELIGIBILITY

If you are applying for one of the three-year or four-year Biology or Biology specialist degree programmes, and are liable to pay overseas fees, you are eligible to apply.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Scholarship applications should be made on the Biology Overseas Students Scholarship application form. Scholarship applications will be considered from those who have already applied, or have been accepted, for admission on to the course. Completed application forms should arrive at the University no later than 22 June 2012, but candidates should apply as early as possible. Late applications may not be considered. Decisions will be made as soon as possible after the closing date. If a candidate’s admission to the course is dependent on examination results that are not known until a later date, the award of a scholarship will be conditional.

SELECTION

A Departmental Committee is responsible for the selection of award-holders. The Committee will consider each applicant’s academic achievement and potential for academic success, as well as his or her financial circumstances.

RENEWAL OF AWARDS

Providing an award-holder’s fees status remains as overseas, a scholarship will normally be renewed each year for the duration of the course, subject to satisfactory academic progress, including satisfactory tutorial reports and a mark of at least 50% in continuous assessment.

Research Scholarship 'Leslie Wilson' 2012

The College invites applications for a Leslie Wilson Research Scholarship from well-qualified candidates who will be studying at the University of Cambridge for a PhD Degree. The Scholarship is tenable for up to three years from 1 October 2012 and there is no restriction of the field of study. Candidates must have graduated at a University before 1 October 2012. While consideration will normally be restricted to those who have obtained, or who have a strong prospect of obtaining, a first-class Honours degree (or its equivalent), evidence of subsequent intellectual development will be taken into account.

In determining the value of the Scholarships in individual cases, the College will take into account candidates' income from all sources. A maximum award of ca. £17,415 per year be made to a Scholar who has no other sources of finance as follows:

Maintenance grant: £11,250 (maximum award; see below)
University fees: £ 3,807 (October 2011 estimate)
College fees: £ 2,358 (October 2011 estimate)

The successful candidate will receive a minimum award of £500 per year regardless of their resources Candidates will be expected to apply (where eligible) for State or Research Council Studentships. The College takes into account grants and awards from other sources in arriving at a suitable maintenance grant.
Rented accommodation in or near College will be made available during the first year of residence to an unmarried Scholar. A married Scholar will be offered rented accommodation near to the College. Those wishing to be considered for a Leslie Wilson Research Scholarship must also apply to the Board of Graduate Studies, 4 Mill Lane, Cambridge CB2 1RZ, for admission to the University as a Graduate Student
using the usual GRADSAF form which is obtainable (in hard copy or electronically) from the Board. Preference may be given to those nominating Magdalene as their first-choice College. Candidates liable to pay University fees at the overseas rate will be expected to apply for research awards organised by the Cambridge Trusts and the Board of Graduate Studies. It is expected that competition results will be announced at end June 2012.

University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship

Scholarships provide EURO 2.4 million in scholarships to academically talented international students in architecture, business, economics, education, engineering, and sciences. The scholarship is aimed at students studying for a Master’s degree in the University of Oulu two-year international Master’s programmes*. The scholarship is for one academic year and covers the full international tuition fee. The University Scholarship 2012 does not cover living costs.

In order to retain the scholarship in the second year of study, a student must have completed 45 ECTS by the end of their first academic year. If a student does not achieve this requirement, they will be liable to pay the full international tuition fee if they wish to complete their Master’s degree programme.

2. Eligibility Requirements to Apply for International Master’s Scholarship

a. Applicants are eligible to apply for a University of Oulu IM Scholarship 2012, if they are:
Non-EU/EEA** citizens who do not have a permanent residence permit in Finland.

(Applicants not eligible for the International Master’s Scholarship are: 1) non-EU/EEA citizens who have a permanent residence permit in Finland, 2) EU/EEA citizens or comparable persons , 3) University of Oulu students who have been accepted to study BEFORE the academic year 2012 – 13.)

b. Eligible to apply for a Master’s degree programme* at the University of Oulu for academic year 2012 – 13. The applicant has obtained their first academic degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) from a recognised institution of higher education.

- applicants who are in their last term/semester of studies during the application period, can apply for the scholarship. Applicants who receive a conditional offer of study placement for a Master’s programme will receive a conditional scholarship offer.

3. Application for International Master’s Scholarship 2012 – 13

There is no separate application for the International Master’s Scholarship. All applicants for University of Oulu Master’s degree programmes need to complete the Online Application Form. Those applicants who are applying for the University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship have to additionally complete the “Application for Scholarship,” which can be found at the end of the Online Application Form. The International Master’s Scholarship application form cannot be completed and/or submitted without the Online Application Form.

Application period for the University of Oulu Master’s degree programmes and International Master’s Scholarship is 21.11.2011 – 31.1.2012.

4. Selection criteria for University of Oulu IM Scholarship 2012

Admissions and scholarships decisions will be taken at the same time. Those students successful in obtaining an International Master’s Scholarship will be notified at the same time as their offer of admission to their International Master’s programme is confirmed.

The Swiss Government through Scholarships for foreign students grants a limited number of scholarships to developing countries, among which Indonesia is included. These scholarships are offered to Indonesian POSTGRADUATE students wishing to undertake research or study in a master programme at a Swiss university or Federal Institute of Technology as mentioned on page 5. Priority will be given to research fellowships.The duration of grant is basically for the nine-month academic year (always from September to June. It is not possible to start the scholarship in the Spring semester or any other time in the year). It can be extended up to 12 months. The extension request will be analyzed according to the FCS criteria.
