Kingdom. Why does Jesus suddenly start teaching in parables? Why do some
people hear Him and lean in, while others hear the same words and walk away
unbothered? We'll work through the Parable of the Sower, the parable that
unlocks all the others, and finish with the treasure hidden in a field and the
pearl of great price. The question underneath all of it: the Kingdom is here,
but do we recognize what we're looking at?

Listen to the Mystery of the Kingdom

Matthew: Reactions to the King (Chris)

In this lesson, we will study “Reactions to the King” from
Matthew 11–12. In these two chapters, the evidence for Jesus as the Messiah is
clear, yet the responses are strikingly different. From John the Baptist’s
honest doubt, to the crowds’ indifference, to the growing opposition of the
religious leaders, these chapters show that the key issue of faith is not the
lack of evidence, but the condition of the human heart. We will also see
Christ’s gracious invitation to come to Him and what it means to live as
citizens of His kingdom. Join us as we consider how we are responding to the

powerful story of Matthew himself: a hated and ostracized tax-collector who
became a beloved apostle of Jesus Christ. Matthew's Gospel focuses on
Jesus's fulfillment of all God's promises in the Old Testament to redeem Israel
and the world. Animating the text is Matthew's own salvation and the
intense commitment to Christ it produced.

This week, we will consider the power of God's

Alongside Matthew's own story, we will consider two other arch-sinners

in our theme, Closer to God, tomorrow we’ll explore “Gratitude as
Worship.” Our culture talks a lot about being thankful, but rarely directs
that gratitude to God. Psalm 100 reminds us that true thanksgiving always leads
to worship. We “enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.”
Join us as we learn how Jesus reorients our hearts from self-focus to genuine
worship, where gratitude becomes an act of praise to the Giver of all good
things.

Listen to Gratitude as Worship

Closer to God: Gratitude and Hope (Chris)

Our series this season is exploring three universal parts of the
human experience: grief, gratitude, and generosity. This week, we will
consider gratitude. "Thanksgiving" is a constant theme in
Scripture. Like us, however, our forebears in faith were not always
celebrating success and good fortune. They faced adversity and
difficulty, and yet maintained an attitude of appreciation for God. We
will reflect on their experiences and the lessons we can apply in our own
lives.

Listen to Gratitude and Hope
Handout

The Seven Holy Feast Days (Bob Daffer)

Bob Daffer begins a two-part lesson on the Seven Holy Feast Days of

cross.

Listen to Grieving Well
Handout 1
Handout 2

Closer to God: Lamentation (Chris)

We begin a new series
called Closer to God: Pathways Through Grief, Gratitude, and Generosity.
Each of these experiences is common to every human life. They touch our deepest
joys and our deepest sorrows, and always force us to ask big questions of God: Where
is he? What is he doing? How should I respond? In this series, we’ll see
that in suffering, God meets us in the valley; in gratitude, he teaches us to
see his hand in all things; and in generosity, he calls us to reflect his own
heart.

This
week continues our series (we neglected to record the first lesson). The Bible offers a special process for
grieving known as “lamenting.” We’ll explore what it means to lament and
how doing so provides hope as we face suffering and sorrow.

Listen to Lamentation
Handout
