How to optimize the Windows performance by removing unwanted programs from startup using windows registry. Applicable to Windows XP, Vista, Windows 2000, windows 98 and windows server.

I will start hacking tips with a very useful and easy to do job. Most of us face this problem of computer slowing down; windows operating system takes ages to load when started, windows explorer hangs up and also how to find out whether your computer is infected.

Follow these steps:

Start and click on run in case of windows XP, Server, windows 98, and 2000 but in vista type directly in search box

Awesome digital bokeh effect in Photoshop

Our last Wallpaper of the Week was an image I had created using Pixelmator, and I really liked the outcome. The best part about it was that it was pretty easy to accomplish in Pixelmator, but I decided for perspective's sake to create the same effect in Photoshop. The process is easy as well, but with a few extra steps.

As in the previous tutorial, I will show you how to create a digital bokeh effect, but this time in Photoshop. The process is very easy and we will be using the super powerful Brush Engine, one of the coolest things in Photoshop.

Step 1

Create a new document in Photoshop. As usual I will use a nice scree resolution, 1920x1200 pixels. Fill the background layer with a very dark grey, not black. If you fill it with black the effect won't work. The color I used was #262626.

Step 2

Select the Ellipse Tool (U), and create a circle. Use black for the color, and go to Layer>Layer Style>Blending Options. Change the Fill Opacity to 50%. After that select Stroke. Use 10 pixels for the size, Inside for the Position and Black for the color.

Step 3

Select the ellipse and go to Edit>Define Brush. Name your brush and that's done. Now we have a new brush ;)

Step 4

Go to Window>Brushes (F5). The first thing to do in the Brush Engine is to select our new Brush. The size won't matter because you will change that when you use it. The Spacing, however, is very important. Chage the value to 100%. After that, select the Shape Dynamics, then Scattering and Other dynamics. For the values use the image below.

Step 5

Before we start painting our bokehs let's create a new layer and fill it with a colorful gradient. I created a new layer and used the layer styles to do that but feel free to do the way you are used to. My gradient settings are as follows: Blend Mode is Overlay, Opacity is 100%, Style is Linear, and the Angle is 45º. The colors I used are: Yellow (#00085), Cyan (#1bdaeb), Purple (#9b3b81), Orange (#d27e34).

Step 6

Let's create a new Folder in our Layer Palette. Rename the folder to Bokehs and change the Blend Mode to Color Dodge. Then create a new layer, choose white for the color and select the Brush Tool (B). Now just paint some ellipses with our custom brush. For this first layer use a big size, like 500-600px.

Step 7

Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. For this first layer use 20 pixels for the Radius.

Step 8

Create another layer and paint more brushes. This time however use a smaller size for the brush. After that go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Use 4 pixels for the Radius.

Step 9

Create another layer and repeat the previous step, this time however use a much smaller brush. Apply theGaussian Blur to this layer as well, but use only 1 pixel for the Radius.

Conclusion

Now just add your logo and that's it. We have a nice wallpaper. The idea of this tutorial was once again to show the power of the Brush Engine. You can try different shapes for this same effect, like hexagons for example. Also you can play a bit with the blurs to add more depth to the final design. Now it's up to you.

Easy steps to create 3D text in PHOTOSHOP

Introduction

In this Photoshop tutorial we’re going to step outside my usual Photoshop Only philosophy and use the 3D rendering power of Adobe Illustrator to create a cool little 3D text effect. Don’t worry noobs, you don’t need to know anything about Illustrator, as usual I’ll coach you through the whole process, but you do need to have it installed on your computer. (*note: If you don’t have Illustrator, you can jump over to Adobe.com and download a 30 day trial version to play around with.)

Step 1 – Setting Up The Photoshop File

Lets get started by opening a new Photoshop document by choosing File > New from the Main Menu or by using the keyboard shortcut Command-N (PC: Ctrl-N). I’m using my usual 540px by 300px size at 72 pixels/inch and a background color of White. When your new document opens, switch over to the Text tool by pressing the T key and type your text onto the canvas (this will create a new layer above the Background layer named after your text). I’m using the Ballpark font which can be downloaded from daFont.com for free. At this point color doesn’t make any difference, but font-size does… I’m using 90pt text.

Step 2 – Convert Text To Paths

With the Text tool still active, Command-Click (PC: Right-Click) on your text and choose Create Work Path. You may only notice a small change on the stage if you’re using black text, so lets switch over to the Path Selection tool by pressing the A key and then click and drag a selection around your text. This will select the paths we just created and make them much easier to see.

Step 3 – Hop Skip And Jump To Illustrator

With our paths selected, lets first make sure that our lettering all stays together as one single unit by going up to the options bar across the top of Photoshop and clicking the Combine button (if you don’t see a combine button, chances are good that you don’t have the Path Selection tool active). With the paths combined you can now copy the selected paths by pressing Command-C (PC: Ctrl-C). This will effectively copy the vector paths into your computer’s memory so that we can switch over to Illustrator and use them there. Now, I know some smart-ass is going to leave me a snooty note about how you could have created this text in Illustrator and saved some trouble, but then you wouldn’t have just learned how to convert your text to a path would you?… And this is after all primarily a Photoshop site, so just know that you could have typed your text in Illustrator too. Both ways are equally correct.

So now that we’ve nipped that in the bud, lets move on and open Adobe Illustrator.

With Illustrator open, lets use the same keyboard shortcut to create a new document over there: Command-N (PC: Ctrl-N). In this instance our canvas size doesn’t matter one bit, so I’ll just leave it at it’s default Letter size and click OK.

Step 4 – Paste The Paths Into Illustrator

Remember those paths we copied to our invisible Clipboard? Lets go ahead and paste those right into our Illustrator document by pressing Command-V (PC: Ctrl-V). If the Paste Options dialog appears, choose Compound Shape and click OK. We’re not worried about where they are on the document or anything but if you’re Obsessive Compulsive feel free to move them to wherever makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

By default your paths won’t be filled with any color, which isn’t good since we won’t be able to see them if they become deselected, so lets use the Color palette to change the fill color to a nice light gray (#E5E5E5). If you don’t see the Color palette, choose Window > Color from the Main Menu. Double-Click on the Foreground color swatch and enter the color code into the box as indicated below and click OK to set the color.

Step 5 – Making The Text 3D

Now comes the fun part! With the path still selected on the stage, choose Effect > 3D > Extrude & Bevel from the Main Menu to bring up the 3D Extrude & Bevel Options window. If the More Options button is visible in the right sidebar, click it to expand the dialog box completely and change your settings to match mine below. Notice that I’m using a zero (0) setting in the Y and Z Axis settings because I only want to push the lettering back a little while keeping all other aspects the same. It’s also important to notice that I’ve moved my light source to the lower left hand corner of the shading ball in the Surface Shading area. Make sure the Preview box is checked if you want to see what’s going on with your text as you work. Once all your settings are complete, click OK to commit your 3D transformation.

Our 3D edges are currently not in a form that Photoshop will understand, so lets quickly fix that before moving back to Photoshop to complete the process. From Illustrator’s Main Menu choose Object > Expand Appearance. This will convert the 3D edges into their own paths, making them Photoshop compatible.

Step 6 – Moving Back To Photoshop

(*note: We’ll be switching programs in a second, but don’t close this Illustrator file just yet, we’ll need it one more time)

With our object still selected in Illustrator, lets copy it back to the Clipboard by pressing Command-C (PC: Ctrl-C) to copy and then click over to your Photoshop document and press Command-V (PC: Ctrl-V) to paste it onto the canvas. You will now be asked how you want to Paste, and if you’re using Photoshop CS4 or higher, choose Smart Object so that we can retain the editing capabilities of our object should we need it later and then click Return (PC: Enter) to commit the paste to the canvas (DO NOT RESIZE WHEN YOU PASTE! If you wish to resize, I’ll let you know when to do it later). (*note: If you’re using a version of Photoshop older than CS4, select Pixels when you Paste)

You can no go ahead and delete your original text layer and paths if you’d like as well as rename your new 3D text layer.

Step 7 – Back To Illustrator One More Time

Ok, like I said, we’re going to make a quick run back to Illustrator to get another set of paths, but this time we only want to copy the original flat text on top of our 3D rendering because it’s perspective has changed since we originally brought it into Illustrator and we’re going to need it isolated for later.

Now, to isolate our top layer of text, we’re going to need to click down into the object, so I want you to double-click on the dark top text 3 times in a row, then click it once to select it. Confusing, I know, but if you followed my instructions right, your document should look like mine below. Notice that the 3D areas are now faded out because you’re deeper into the object.

!! OPTION B !!If you’re having trouble try this alternate method:
Double click on the stage (outside of the object) to ensure you’re at the top level of your document in Illustrator, then select your text object by clicking and dragging a selection around it with the Selection tool. Now, choose Window > Appearance from the Main Menu to bring up the Appearance palette and inside that palette click on the Extrude & Bevel link to reopen the 3D Extrude & Bevel Options palette. Next simply change the Extrude Depth to 0pt and click OK to commit the change. You can now continue to Step 8.

Step 8 – Copy And Paste Back Into Photoshop

Just like the title says, we’re going to repeat our Copy and Paste process by pressing Command-C (PC: Ctrl-C), switching back to Photoshop and Pasting just like we did before with Command-V (PC: Ctrl-V). And yes, again CS4 and newer will use Smart Object while older versions will use the Pixels option when pasting.

It’s going to be hard to see this new version pasted over the original, so lets change the color by using a Layer Style. In the Layers palette, Command-Click (PC: Right-Click) on the new layer which should appear at the top of the Layers palette and which I’ve conveniently named 2D Text #1 and choose Blending Options to bring up the Layer Styles dialog box. Click on the Color Overlay option in the left hand list and change the color (click on the swatch) to #323232 and click OK to add the style to the layer. And now that you can tell the 2D layer from the 3D layer, use the Move tool (or your arrow keys) to position the 2D layer over the top of the 3D layer where it belongs. It may help to zoom in to get it perfect by using the Command + and Command – (PC: Ctrl + and Ctrl -).

Step 9 – Making The Top Pop

In this step we’re going to do a few things to make the top layer stand off of the 3D sides a little bit. Lets start by duplicating the 2D Text #1 layer by selecting it in the Layers palette and then pressing Command-J (PC: Ctrl-J) to duplicate the layer. Rename this new top layer 2D Text #2. Press the V key to make sure that the Move tool is active and then using the arrow keys on your keyboard press Up and Left each one time to offset the layer slightly from the one below.

Now lets edit the Color Overlay layer style of the 2D Text #1 layer. To do this, simply double click on the little FX icon on that layer (alternately you can Command-Click (PC: Right-Click) on the layer and choose Blending Options) to bring back the Layer Styles dialog. Click on Color Overlay in the left hand column and change the color of the overlay to White and then click OK to commit the change.

Step 10 – Adding The First Shadow

If you’re using CS4 or newer with Smart Objects, this is the point where you’d want to resize your text if needed. Be sure to select all 3 text layers and transform them together

Next we’re going to add a tiny shadow immediately below our 3D Text layer to really make it pop off the background a little more. Command-Click (PC: Ctrl-Click) on the thumbnail of the 2D Text #2 (or #1) layer to load the layer as a selection. Press the D key to reset the foreground and background colors and return the foreground to black, then create a new layer below the 3D Text layer and fill the selection with foreground color by pressing Option-Delete (PC: Alt-Backspace). You won’t be able to see anything yet, but that’s ok, rename this new layer Shadow #1 and continue to the next step

Step 11 – Blur And Move The Shadow Into Place

Now we’re going to dull the edges of our shadow just a little bit, so from the Main Menu choose Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and when the dialog pops up set the Radius to 0.5 pixels and click OK. And now press your Down Arrow key on your keyboard until the shadow becomes visible at the bottom of the 3D Text layer. We only want a pixel or two showing, just enough to give us a nice tight shadow below the text. (I only dropped it 1px below the 3D text)

Step 11 – Create The Final Shadow

With our first shadow in place, creating the 2nd will be easy. Duplicate the Shadow #1 layer by pressing Command-J (PC: Ctrl-J) and call it Shadow #2. Go back to the Gaussian Blur filter (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur) and this time use a radius of 2px and click OK.

Because our light source for our 3D objects was coming from the lower left hand corner of the text, lets make a small modification here to make the effect a little more convincing. While still on the Shadow #2 layer, press Command-T (PC: Ctrl-T) to invoke the Free Transform tool, and pull out the left and top center points just slightly to pull the shadow away from the text in those directions as shown below. You don’t need to go too far, just enough to pull the shadow slightly. Click Return (PC: Enter) to commit your transformation when you’re done.

Conclusion

For my final image I pulled the Shadow #2 Layer’s Opacity down to around 60% just to soften up the effect a little bit and then added a slight gradient to the background. There are a lot of great instances where you’ll be able to use 3D text, you can use this same process with any object made from a path… logos, custom shapes and all kinds of stuff. So play around, and have a little fun with it.

Typography Wallpaper in Photoshop

Here is a quick tutorial from one of our latest designs. Hopefully this tutorial can benefit in your pursuit of becoming a better designer.

Step 1

Create a new document at 1200 x 800 pixels with a resolution of 72dpi. Start off by importing all of your vector designs separately into a Photoshop canvas. In this case we divided our vectors into 3 separate smart objects and dragged them into the Photoshop canvas.

Step 2

Hide all vectors and create a new text box. In this case I typed out the name of our company, "Creative Volition Inc.". The font we chose was "ITC Avant Garde Gothic". Keep your font in full caps, especially if your using this one! Continue to copy/paste your text across the text box.

Step 3

Text settings: 16pt font, Regular, 16pt height spacing, Color #404040.

Step 4

Continue to copy/paste the text until it fills the entire canvas. Stretch the box out using the text tool until it expands beyond the canvas size.

Step 5

Once the text box is filled completely with the copy begin to rotate the box clockwise in about a 45 degree angle.

Step 6

Make one of the smart objects visible. Command/Apple click the preview box on the layer panel to create marching ants around your object.

Step 7

Once the marching ants appear, hide your smart object so you can see the selection.

Step 8

Rasterize the type layer and with the marching ants active on your rasterized layer click Edit > Cut.

Step 9

Then click Edit > Paste and align your new layer so all the words connect. Open the Layer Style box and change the "Color Overlay" to white.

Step 10

Continue to do the same procedure with your other smart object layers but make sure to always cut from the rasterized layer.

Step 11

Lastly create a new layer and fill it with any color. Place this layer on top of all other layers. Drop the fill down to 0%. Open the Layer Styles box and change the inner glow to the following settings and click OK.

Thats it! You should now have a beautiful design in front of you.

How to create Wood Inlay Text in photoshop

Step 1

Lets start by setting up a new document, mine is 540×300 pixels at 72ppi but for this tutorial size doesn’t matter at all. There are plenty of good places online to find nice wood textures and I found a great one at defcon-x.de. We’re going to start by creating 3 layers and pasting wood textures in each. Color isn’t as important as the tone of the wood and for this lesson I chose a very light, medium and dark piece to work with. I arranged them from lightest on the bottom to darkest on the top because I want the light wood to comprise the image’s background.

Go ahead and find a few wood swatches and put each on it’s own layer. The textures at defcon-x are very high resolution and you may want to use the Free Transform function to bring them down to the proper size for your project.

Step 2

Next we need to select a font to work with. For this effect I prefer a blocky sort of disco style font because the abstract nature of the letters. The font I’m going to use here is called Bifurk and is available for free at dafont.com.

With the top layer of wood texture selected, press the T key to invoke the Type tool and click and type on the stage to add your text.

Step 3

Now lets add a few layer masks to define the texture layers as text. To load our text as a selection Command-Click (PC: Ctrl-Click) on the thumbnail for the text layer in the layers palette (since it’s text, it will just have a big T in the thumbnail box).

Step 4

With the text selected, click on the Light Wood layer in the layers palette to select it as the working layer, then press the Add Layer Mask button at the bottom of the Layers palette to convert the selection to a Layer Mask.

Step 5

Now do the exact thing to the Dark Wood layer, load the text as a selection and add a layer mask to the Dark Woodlayer.

Step 6

For the moment we’re finished with the Type layer we created at the top of the document, but just to be safe lets not delete it, lets just turn it off by clicking on the little eye icon to the left of the layer thumbnail in the text layer.

Step 7

Make sure that the top wood texture layer is selected in the Layers palette as the active layer and then click on the Layer Mask in that layer to insure that what we do next will be applied to the Layer Mask and not to the layer itself. You’ll know the layer mask is selected because the layer mask thumbnail will have small brackets around it in the Layers palette.

What we’re going to do here is select areas of the layer mask to "black out", allowing the underlying layer to show through. Lets do a simple example by pressing the M key to invoke the Rectangular Marquee tool and creating a selection around the lower portion of one of our letters.

Step 8

Press the D key to insure that your foreground color is set to black, then we’re going to press Option-Delete (PC: Alt-Backspace) to fill our selection with black. Since any area on a Layer Mask that is white will show through to the layer below and any area that is black will be masked off, the selection we just filled with black will allow the wood on the lower layer to be visible. Press Command-D (Ctrl-D) when you’ve filled the area of the mask with black to deselect.

Step 9

Next lets try something a little trickier. Create a long narrow selection using the Rectangular Marquee tool.

Step 10

I want this selection to be at a 45° angle, so lets choose Select>Transform Selection from the main menu. Holding the Shift key to constrain the rotation, grab one of the end points of the selection and rotate it. When it’s in the position you want, press the Return (PC: Enter) key to commit the transformation.

Move the selection to the spot you want to mask (just like in the previous step).

Step 11

Obviously if I filled that selection with black I would also block out areas of the other letters (not just the S that I’m working on). To avoid this we need to subtract some areas from the selection. While holding down the Option (PC: Alt) key which will add a small minus sign (-) next to the Marquee tool I’ll create selections around the sections of the selection that I don’t want to be there, this will deselect only those areas of the selection that overlaps the other letters.

Step 12

Now we’ll just fill our modified selection with black by pressing Option-Delete (PC: Alt-Backspace) to mask away another piece of the Dark Wood layer from view. When you’re done press Command-D (PC: Ctrl-D) to deselect.

Step 13

Continue this process through each letter paying attention to the lines of the letters and where the highlight would best be suited.

Step 14

The last thing I might do is add a 1 pixel white outline to each of the two wood lettering layers to represent that small over cut margin around the areas in wood overlay work that’s been filled with glue or wood filler. I’d accomplish this with a Stroke Layer Style with settings like the ones below. Notice that I’ve changed the color, size and opacity.

Step 15

My final text would look something like this.

You can use this technique for just about anything, for my final image I added the Hero Star to the text. I hope you’ve learned something about layer masks and using textures to create effects.

How to create download icon in photoshop

Step 1

Let’s start our new document by setting the background color to #303030. Then create a circular shape using the Ellipse tool (U), keep holding Shift while dragging outwards to create a perfect circle. Start dragging from the center of the canvas while holding down Alt. This way the shape is centered around the initial position of your mouse. Fill this shape with #bcbcbc, and name the layer "ring 1."

Step 2

Duplicate the "ring 1" layer. Then use the Free Transform Tool (CMD+T) to re-size the circle slightly, so that it matches the one created previously. I’ve named this layer "ring 2."

CTRL + Click on the "ring 2" layer to create a selection around the smaller circle. Then navigate to select > modify > expand. Then use an expansion radius of 3 pixels. Go back to the "ring 1" layer and hit theAdd Layer Mask button in the layer palette, as illustrated below. This cuts out the part that is covered by the "ring 2" shape.

Step 3

Next apply layers styles to both "ring 1" and "ring 2" layers. Follow the instructions in the image below. A gradient overlay is generally used on the ‘outer shell’ of a web graphic to give it depth. It can be used to inset an image when contrasting gradients are used. This is an old technique, which is not necessary for our image. Furthermore, inner glow, when used with dark colors will create a sort of ‘inflated’ look. It gives the illusion of a shadow being present all around the shape, thus causing the shape to rise up from the canvas.

Step 4

Select "ring 2" again, and on a new layer drag down a gradient. Set this layer to hard light.

Step 5

On a new layer, create another ring and apply the same layer style as was used on "ring 2" (see step 3). I called this layer "ring 3." It may seem unorthodox to stack the same elements over and over again, but the layered effect is a time saving technique used to create something complex looking.

Step 6

Duplicate the "ring 3" layer and call it "fill." Our icon is going to be blue, so fill it with #446fce. Then change the layer styles, as shown in the image below.

Step 7

Duplicate the "fill" layer. Then set the fill to 0% (Not the opacity). Then call it "highlight ring," and apply the layer styles shown below.

Step 8

Create a new layer, call it "highlight brush." Then set it to soft light. Next, using a soft white brush gently tap the top of the blue part until it starts to light up.

Step 9

Go to the custom shape tool. Then at the top, select the arrow that I marked in the image below. Drag this arrow out while holding shift for a nice even shape. Rotate it, so that it faces downwards, use free transform (ctrl/cmd + t) to do this. Then duplicate the layer, move it up a bit (you can use the arrow keys), and again use free transform to make it slightly smaller. Hold shift when making the element smaller so that it retains the correct proportions.

Step 10

I merged these two shapes and called the layer "arrows." Next, add the following layer styles to this layer.

Step 11

Time to add the gloss, I called this layer "glossy". First, I drew out a shape. Then I set the opacity of that layer to 30%. Next, I ctrl/cmd + click on the blue layer. Then I select the circle outline. Hit the mask button(like in step 2), and everything outside of the selection is masked away. Use a soft black brush on the mask, and go right along the edges to soften them up. This is a matter of taste though.

Step 12

Lastly, let’s add a shadow on a new layer below all of the other layers we just created. Use a soft black brush and tap in such a way that just the edges of each brush stroke are visible. Our final image is below.

Conclusion

What have we learned in this tutorial? We’ve learned to stack elements upon themselves to create depth. We’ve learned to use layer styles to create depth and 3d shapes. We’ve learned that simple objects can be turned into complex images easily. We’ve learned that simple glossy effects should be used properly. Don’t abuse them. Simple Glossy Button

1.Create a new file. A larger file is better. I used 600*500px with white background.Draw a circle with 150*150px dimension(TIP:Hold shift button while dragging to get perfect circle). I used #b5dfff color.

2.Double click the circle layer in the layer window to bring layer style window.(or you can select from menu Layer->Layer style). Apply the following effects.

Amazing Photoshop light effect in 10 Steps

Magic Lighting Effects. A lot of people liked it, but some people still have some questions on how to achieve that effect.

When I added a “buy me a coffee” featured on my blog I decided to use an image I had done when I was showing my cousin how to do the Magic effect. Instead of using a hat I used a coffee cup and the process is basically the same, however this time I will explain it in more details.

Step 1

Create a new document, apply a Layer Style on the background layer. Add a Gradient Overlay and aPattern Overlay.

Step 2

Here I've used an icon I found on a cool site, but you can use whatever you want.

Step 3

Select the Ellipse Tool (U) and create a shape like I did. After that apply a Gaussian Blur (Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur) with radius of 30px.

Step 4

Create a new Folder name it “Light Effects”. Change its blend mode to Color Dodge, and move the ellipse you created to this folder.

Step 5

In order to create the sparks we will use the amazing brush engine. Add a new layer, inside the “Light Effects” layer, set white for the color and follow the images below.

Step 6

Using the Layer Styles add a Outer Glow to the sparks

Step 7

Lets add some smoke. Create a new Layer, call it “Smoke”. Change its blend mode to Color Dodge and select the Lasso Tool. Set 40px for Feather and create a selection like I did below. After that make sure that the foreground is white and the background is black and apply a Filter>Render>Clouds. Tip: Continue applying the filter until you get the best clouds.

Step 8

Add some text and using the Layer Styles again lets create a nice effect.

Step 9

Place your logo and you can even add more effects like I did on the Magic Lighting Effect, but then you will have to follow that tutorial ;).

Conclusion

I have to say, if you know a bit of Layer Styles and the Brush engine in Photoshop you will be able to create amazing effects. It will depend exclusively on your imagination and playing with the tool. Sometimes just changing a some settings and you get a totally different effect.

Trick To Create Your Own Drive

We can create our personal drive in a simple way.

Go to C: drive and create a new folder( say education )
Now go to START and then RUN and type cmd to open command prompt.
In the command prompt type subst z: c:\education
Thats it.Now check that there is a new drive created with label Z: and it will be sharing the memory of C: drive.
You can also hide the newly created folder (i.e education).

If you want to delete this drive go to created education folder (in c:/ drive) and delete it.

(In stead of C: drive you can also any other drives that are already present and also you can put your own label instead of Z:)
