Beating up Salman Khan – the man with one of the best physiques in Bollywood – might be a difficult job, but not for ‘Bigg Boss 6’ contestant Santosh Shukla.

Salman may have beaten up many baddies in the past, but Shukla, who will be playing the main negative role in ‘Mental’, will be seen assaulting Tabu and thrashing Chulbul Pandey – as he is lovingly known to all - in Sohail Khan’s next.

The movie is expected to hit theatres this Eid.

According to reports, Santosh is going through intense training session and needs to keep his beard and hair long for the villainous role.

Here’s wishing Santosh all the very best for his foray into Bollywood.

After SRK, Emraan Hashmi's music goes international

2013-01-19T05:04:00.002-08:00

If the 'scary beginning' for Ek Thi Daayan has been in the news ever since its promo hit the screens, there is more. Emraan Hashmi, whose 'desi' mass appeal has been fetching him superb box office success rate lately, is now seeing an international collaboration as well, a la Shahrukh Khan

"As has already been hinted in the background theme of the forthcoming Emraan Hashmi-starrer, sound plays a very important role in getting the chills and thrills. Unlike a routine horror affair where it is all noise and fury that fills the narrative, the music of Ek Thi Daayan scores in its calmness. In fact this is the first time that the music of his film is being processed internationally. Otherwise the only one whose films have crossed Indian boundaries is Shahrukh Khan whose Ra.One and Om Shanti Om were musically processed in Prague," claims a source.

Even though there are good facilities in Mumbai for getting the required effects, co-producers Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj were of the view that an international treatment to the music would make it a further quality affair. Not to mention the fact that musically, an Emraan Hashmi-Vishal Bhardwaj combination is already being looked at as pretty huge in its own right!

"Emraan's previous horror flick, Raaz 3, was a massive hit, and with Ek Thi Daayan the stakes have only risen. It isn't going to be just another film for everyone associated with it," the source adds, "While the theme sound of the film carries an international feel to it and would remind the audience of many a Hollywood classic, Vishal is also making sure that songs carry a world class mood to them. This is the reason why he is traveling with Clinton Cerejo to London on Sunday to mix the soundtrack".

We tried contacting Vishal but he was unavailable. Guess he was busy preparing to musically decorate his 'daayan'.

Salman Khan's Dabangg 2 gets cleared without cuts

2012-12-12T22:11:00.003-08:00

By Hindustan Times

The most anticipated film of the year Dabangg 2 is just a few days away from release.

The Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha starrer has been cleared by the Censor Board for Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate which is surely good news for the makers of Dabangg 2 and fans of Salman Khan.

Producer-director Arbaaz Khan shared the news on Twitter, "Dabangg 2 gets UA certificate without cuts."

The film has a final run time of 2 hours and 5 minutes and is slated to release on December 21 this year.

Sonakshi Sinha not in favour of size zero!

2012-11-07T06:05:00.002-08:00

While most of the actresses are training hard and have strict workout regimes to get rid of those few extra kilos, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha doesn’t think there’s a need for her to loose some weight. In fact, the actress says that no actress should be size zero as it is very unhealthy.
These words were spoken when Sonakshi Sinha was asked about her weight issues recently. Sonakshi got very offended claiming that she was perfectly fit. Surprisingly, she took a dig at the Bollywood babes who are in favor of size zero.
Sonakshi said: “Beyond a point you stop reacting to it. The audience has accepted me, that’s what matters. It’s not like people aren’t coming to me with films. Frankly, I have worked very hard to look the way I do today. I have lost a lot of weight. I still work hard on myself, my films, my skills and that’s paying off. So far, in all the roles that I have played, I am not required to be size zero. I am not a model, I am an actor. I am a regular 25 year old, happy playing roles that let me be like that. Being fit is a part of this industry and I am quite fit. I don’t fall sick, collapse on sets and faint. I can work for long hours.”
Maybe Sonakshi just doesn’t have what it takes to get the perfect body. Do you think she needs to loose a few pounds?

Shahrukh Khan is insecure once again!

2012-11-07T06:04:00.002-08:00

Recently, Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma were seen together promoting their upcoming film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. As usual, Shahrukh was the center of attraction as he stole the limelight and managed to entertain the media to the fullest. However, Shahrukh became very insecure when a person from the media asked Katrina about which is her favorite Khan.
Katrina, who is probably in the best phase of her career, has worked with all the three Khans. Recently with Salman in Ek Tha Tiger, with SRK in JTHJ and with Aamir in Dhoom 3. The media would obviously want to ask her that question as she has worked with all three of them. But, before Katrina could reply, Shahrukh interrupted and said that these kind of questions only create unnecessary controversies.
Previously, during the promotions of We Are Family, Kareena Kapoor was asked the same question. Kareena was honest and spoke her mind but Katrina couldn’t get a chance to do so. Maybe Shahrukh should have just let Katrina speak or maybe he’s just afraid that she wouldn’t have taken his name.
Shahrukh’s insecurities were witnessed by everyone this time. How long will Shahrukh keep answering for his leading ladies?

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) attached to Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan has issued a statement vis-à-vis the actress’ choice of heroes opposite her. The statement has dismissed reports which appeared in some sections of the press which said that Aishwarya has decided to star in films only opposite hubby Abishek Bachchan in her ‘second innings’ in films after the birth of her daughter Aaradhya.

Aishwarya was going highly successful as heroine when she decided it was time for her to get into the ‘family mode’ and gave birth to Aaradhya late last year. The actress is said to have put on some weight post the delivery of her daughter and wasn’t appearing to be taking any immediate steps to ‘get back in shape’.

She, however, shot for a commercial recently which has evoked mixed feelings amid her fans. While some say that the old ‘glow’ is back, others feel that child birth has had its bearing on her looks and that she’s past her prime now. It’s in this backdrop that the statement by her PRO has insisted that if the script was good enough, Aishwarya was ready to star opposite other heroes too.

“Those reports are planted by her detractors who are out to damage the actress’ image. The actress has been slowly but steadily regaining her old glory and would soon be seen on screen taking on prominent roles,” the statement further said. It may be noted that the 2010 film Guzaarish happens to be Aishwarya’s last film as on date.

Bidushi Dash Barde murdered in Mumbai

2012-10-25T06:02:00.000-07:00

Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: Mumbai has registered yet another shocking case of crime related to the world of glitz and crime.

Bidushi Dash Barde, a 23 year old model-turned actor, was found murdered in her apartment in Andheri on Monday. Basically from Chennai, Bidushi was at home alone on the ill-fated day when her husband Kedar Barde, a software engineer found her lying in a pool of blood at their residence.

The Mumbai police had initially registered a case of accidental death but on discovering wounds on her body and based on the postmortem reports, they re-registered it as a case of murder.

Talking to a leading daily Additional Commissioner Vishwas Nangre-Patil said, “A female resident of the building has told us that she clearly saw a visitor at Bidushi`s door. Based on her statement and the nature of injuries sustained by Bidushi, we have registered a case of murder on Tuesday.”

The police said, “Kedar noticed that the lights were switched off but the television set was on. He then came across Bidushi`s blood-splattered body in the passage between the bathroom and the bedroom. A glass shelf was lying broken near her and glass shards were found protruding from Bidushi`s cheek, jaw, neck and chin. There were also fingernail marks on her face as well as head injuries.”

Bidushi’s father said that his daughter was very happy in Mumbai and had never fought with anyone. So he wondered what might have led to the murder.

‘Chakravyuh’ review Naxalism – the inside story through Prakash Jha’s eyes!

2012-10-25T06:00:00.003-07:00

Bikas Bhagat

Reams of papers and discussions on TV have been exhausted to lay bare the core issues concerning India’s most burning problem, which, according to experts, is ripping the nation apart. Enter Prakash Jha with his thought provoking ‘Chakravyuh’ - and it can be decisively said that there cannot be a more balanced approach to create an illustration around something as complex a subject as Naxalism.

After seeing ‘Chakravyuh’, I could well imagine the labyrinth which Prakash Jha would have found himself in, for he was treading the path that no regular filmmaker would dare contemplate. The topic is such that if not handled craftily, it would fail to make a mark. There are as many supporters for the issue as are counters.

But Jha, the maverick that he is, believed more on his conviction, backed by intensive ground work on the Maoist movement, Red Corridor and Naxalism, has excelled immensely in making yet another masterpiece after ‘Gangajal’, ’Aparahan’, ‘Raajneeti’ and ‘Aarakshan’ – with ‘Chakravyuh’.

Coming to the film, we have seen many dangerous villains, so the audience while watching it, has a hunch as to how it is all going to end. But, here the adversary is such that people would be forced to get involved and question the very structure of the state, its administration, the policies and how several factors are working in tandem to condition the society or dislocate it for the gains of the few.

Jha has exploited the talent of some of Bollywood’s rare diamonds to the fullest while making ‘Chakravyuh’. The story has nothing much, but the actors have a done a brilliant job of bringing authenticity by justifying the characters that they have been casted in and by gelling with the theme of the film so well.

Arjun Rampal (Adil Khan) is an honest cop who is posted in the Naxalite belt of Nandighat after his associate gets killed in an insurgency attack by rebels led by Manoj Bajpayee (Rajan). Abhay Deol (Kabir) is Adil Khan’s closest buddy, who volunteers to work as a mole among rebels and act as the police’s informer. Kabir decides to do the job despite a lethal risk, so that his friend can remain safe and also contribute to the nation by helping the police eliminate the menace and the greatest malady of the time – the Naxalites.

But, once into the camp, Kabir faces the hard, ground reality. Abhay’s character finds himself in the greatest dilemma of betraying his friend on the one hand and the Marxist ideology that he has developed in the course of his training at the camp on the other.

The film succeeds in bringing out the right emotions out of the actors. While Arjun has done an incredible job of living up to the position and the authority that he has been granted; his better half Riya Menon Khan (Esha Gupta), displays a spirited and motivating performance as an intelligence officer. But the real find of the film is the femme fatale character of Juhi the rebel played by Anjali Patil.

Talking about the two veterans – Manoj Bajpayee and Om Puri – the actors never once deviate from their characters. Manoj in the film is a ruthless rebel leader but he has mission a mission to complete – which gets clear as the film reaches its crescendo.

The music by Salim-Sulaiman, Aadesh Shrivastava, Shantanu Moitra is great; they have done a fantastic job of keeping the audience involved with the story. Songs of the film are completely in sync with the mood of the film. ‘Mehangaai’ stands out. The song did court controversy, but trust me, looking at the greater scheme of things and the idea behind it, the debate looks trivial.

Here’s a fight which we have heard about and seen through the ages – the fight between the Capitalists and the Communists. Prakash Jha presents it in his own way; and going by illustrious line of work, it would be a big mistake on your part if you happen to give ‘Chakravyuh’ a miss.

Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone Who is Shahrukh Khan’s ideal desi James Bond girl

2012-10-20T21:21:00.005-07:00

Much hype is attached to the lady who romances the 007 spy. So while it’s evident that our Baadshah is the only enthu soul who’s dreaming of saving the world from tech-savvy goons and terrorists, we launch a hunt for the lady who fits in to the glamorous but dangerously spiked stilettos of the Bond girl

About a week ago we woke up to Shahrukh Khan candidly confessing on a microblogging site, “I am a big James Bond fan. always wanted to play a character like him… but am told… I am not smooth with guns or women… bah.” Alas, “the job is taken,” said Daniel Craig aka the current James Bond of Hollywood.

Even so, we didn’t want our Baadshah to feel blue and depressed about missing out on the chance of playing the suave 007. So we stopped our editors brushing aside the thought of SRK as Bond, and pondered one of the most obvious dilemmas we could think of – who could play the Bond girl for Shahrukh? Dan the man had the delicious Olga Kurylenko to canoodle with in Quantum of Solace and Berenice Marlohe takes his cake in Skyfall. So which B-town beauty can match up to those gorgeous faces and bodies and romance SRK in the most difficult of situations?

Not really the toughest task in the world, you may think. But remember, to play the coveted role, the lady definitely needs to be smart, sexy, physically tough, action-oriented, sharpshooter, vulnerable yet strong. Phew! Demanding, no?

Fear not, BollywoodLifers, we have racked our brains and thought hard and have now come up with all the possible contenders for the role neatly lined up. So take a peek and tell us, who you think could be the perfect Bond girl opposite our Baadshah…oops…Bond-Shah?

1 Priyanka Chopra

In walks the jungli billi of B-town who has played a role similar to that of a 007 girl in the Don movies. Her physique, attitude, style and love for action are all in the right place. And the former Khatron Ke Khiladi host did do some breathtaking stunts in the very forgettable Drona, didn’t she? But after watching her performing flawlessly alongside Don in two films, won’t it be a bit blah to see her share the same chemistry with the King Khan aka desi Bond? Still...Piggy Chops, you do come the closest when we think of a tough action chick who can kick butt!

2 Chitrangda Singh

All this talk about Bond girls makes us look in the direction of the lady with razor sharp features. And Chitrangda, with her dusky complexion and pointed nose, seems just perfect. Here again, we have no clue how the babe will fare in action sequences. But we know that she’s a tough one, just from the fact that she completed her dance sequence to I want just you in Joker with a sprained leg, and did a commendable job of it too. So yeah, Chits could definitely fit into the shoes of the Bond girl.

3 Anushka Sharma

We haven’t seen this babe doing any action sequences yet, apart from slapping the wannabe dancer Shahrukh in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But if given a chance, wethinks Anu might just do well. ‘Coz she has a perfect figure and a beautiful face. Her girl next door image might pose a problem but c’mon, we’re ready to turn a blind eye to that if she succeeds in packing the perfect punch.

4 Kangna Ranaut

Now when we are talking about babes in action, how can the mutant from Krissh 3 be left out? So here she is! Kangy’s lean physique - one that she flaunted in Gangster - and curly mop of hair could be perfect for this role. But even if that’s not an option now, wethinks this babe will do a decent job as a BG who’s strictly eye-candy and not much else. Why? Just ‘coz she looks too vulnerable! But having been there, done that, she could fit perfectly into those sexy seduction sequences that every Bond film must have, no? Then again, Ranaut’s accent worries us a little. So if ever the makers come up with a BG gal who needs to say nothing, Kangna can try squeezing into that role, just like she has in fitting into her role opposite Hrithik.

5 Deepika Padukone

A ten on ten for her figure. Those shapely legs, washboard tummy and beautiful face…where else will you find that in one delectable package? And with those years of badminton training to her credit, we’re sure action sequences would be a cakewalk for this toned babe. So is she THE perfect Bond Girl? Ummm, could be. But a BG with an irritating accent might not be the….errr….best choice, right?

6 Katrina Kaif

Oooh! We also have the Barbie doll of B-town stretching out her hand to curl it around our wannabe Bond-man's arm in her latest movie, Jab Tak Hain Jaan. And the attitude she displayed while getting off that bike just before her smooch-sequence with Hrithik Roshan in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actually is the real reason why the babe made it to this list. But what about the action sequences? If the makers of Dhoom:3 are to be believed, Kaif’s stunts in the movie will be on par with those of Uma Thurman in Quintin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. But then, according to the buzz, Kat used a body double for almost all her action sequences in Ek Tha Tiger. Remember? So this B-town babe would make a perfect BG if and only if she promises to use her manicured hands to deliver some action-packed punches. Now will you, Kat?
