Before the Christmas season officially arrives, an equally grand and colorful celebration is slated to take place this October 1 and 2, 2011 at the booming Newport City in Villamor, Pasay City.

Talulot Festival, which started in 2007, is a vibrant and wondrous spectacle of music, dance and local talents. Close to 2,500 people attend the Pontifical Mass and festivities every year. On its fifth year, the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines and Magnificat Ventures Corporation, partnered with the City of Pasay, Barangay 183, Resorts World Manila, and the Newport City Estate Association.

He perfected his craft when he was in the Gulf War. In the 1990’s, he served as the Hospital Director of the CDCP Mining Corporation for 3 years and as Chief of Clinics of the Municipality of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 9 years. According to Dr. Mancao, migraine is a prolonged history of one-sided headache induced by bright lights, loud sounds and too much worrying and stress with symptoms like vomiting and nausea that lasts for three days and can be relieved by medicines, but most of the time cannot. It may also be triggered by an obsessive-compulsive type of personality, hypersensitivity to some foods and emotional problems with other people. He disclosed that pain relievers actually do not relieve pain. They just block the sensation of pain but the pain is still there. They numb or anesthetize the pathways of the signal that goes to the brain. He warned aging people who suffer from common arthritis and rheumatism about using liniments especially massage oils, which contain methyl salicylate that is very toxic and can shut down the kidneys in diabetics.

Asked about the future of Mancao Myotherapy, he said: “Migraine and chronic pains are top reasons of absenteeism and non-productivity in the workplace. Strokes suddenly happen because of years of neglecting one's health. It is mainly caused by an accumulation and a combination of poor diet and certain bad habits. In acupuncture principles, a stroke is caused by wind, phlegm, fire and stasis accumulated in the body. What causes these four pathogenic factors are : eating too much greasy food, drinking too much alcohol, working long hours without sleep and rest, having no exercise, engaging in a lot of sex, keeping grudges and negative emotions. A stroke occurs when at least 3 out of 4 of these pathogenic factors are present in the body. If the persons are not paying attention to all the bad habits, he or she can end up in the emergency room and may wind up dead or maybe lucky enough alive but inevitably paralyzed.

Yes, stroke is well known to be one seriously depressing, stressful and dreadful disease, and that no one would ever wish it to happen to himself or herself. However, middle and old age folks are highly at risk. As a person ages and continues to have a poor diet and certain bad habits then the chance increases the risk of stroke. When it happens, it not only affects the disability of a stroke victim physically and financially but it also impacts the day-to-day activities and even the social values of the whole family. In fact, it robs family members of their independence amidst the many responsibilities, which are physically exhausting, that are being placed on them in taking care of their sick loved one.

Indeed, since more amount of money will be expected to be spent on hospitals, medications, and rehab once this health condition happens, time is of the essence when it comes to first aid and prevention. The good news is, there is a time-tested and proven alternative medicine and holistic approach to healing, that is acupuncture, which can help and it works effectively upon the onset of a stroke.

Acupuncture is very useful in preventing stroke, in treating early stage stroke, and in preventing another stroke to happen again. “There are a set of specific acupuncture points for each condition, depending on what the stroke victim ends up with. If the patient has facial, hand, and leg paralysis, slurred speech, all these need to be addressed so that an acupuncture prescription point can be figured out,” Dr. Zosa said.

He said it is important to know how severe the stroke is, whether there is facial paralysis, paralysis of the limbs, or aphasia. In such cases, there are different targeted herbal formulas that he recommends for his patients. Herbal formulas have been known to be safe, effective, and natural. It is needed depending on a few factors and other related complaints of the stroke patient.

In a standard acupuncture treatment program, stroke patients, who receive acupuncture on a consistent basis and take the prescribed herbal formula combined with the required physical therapy, should expect to have a higher recovery rate than with patients receiving no acupuncture. The longer a person waits to get treatment the less chance it will be for a one hundred percent and fast recovery. One month delay or less is allowable for a successful revival of paralyzed nerves.

According to Dr. Russ Erickson of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, acupuncture therapy for stroke-caused conditions such as paralysis, speech and swallowing problems, and depression is already commonly used in many countries and widely used in the Orient. In China and Japan, an acupuncturist is likely to start therapy as soon as possible after a stroke. However, Dr. Erickson recommends a delay of two weeks before acupuncture for strokes caused by bleeding in the brain or hemorrhagic stroke, which is 10 to 20% of strokes, instead of the usual blood vessel block or clot called ischemic stroke. The wait is due to studies showing that acupuncture opens blood vessels for better flow and decreases clotting and inflammation. These effects are desired early when arteries are blocked, but after a stroke caused by bleeding has occurred, it is safer to wait until the bleeding blood vessel has clotted and is unlikely to bleed further before providing the acupuncture.

Dr. Zosa can assess his patients’ health status just by looking at their tongue. A normal tongue is pale red in color. According to him a swollen tongue indicates there is phlegm present in the body. Eating greasy foods will usually cause a thick white coating at the root of the tongue. It will also cause swollen tongue which indicates impaired circulation of body fluids and retention of phlegm and damp. A violet tongue is usually caused by keeping negative emotions like having anger, resentment, and grudges causes stagnation of blood and energy which will cause a purple color on the tongue.

“A few warning signs a stroke is about to happen are sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg, slurred speech, tongue is deep (red/purple/deviated/swollen), trouble seeing, trouble walking or dizziness. If one has any of these signs then he should go to the emergency room immediately. It can cause death if left ignored. It's important to rush to the hospital if you have any of the symptoms and feel like you’re about to have a stroke. Even a minor stroke is dangerous. If any of the signs appear for a few minutes and goes away don't ignore it, schedule an appointment with your doctor ASAP and with your acupuncturist too,” Dr. Zosa emphatically enthused.

“After being discharged from the hospital stroke patients will undergo therapy (physical, occupational, speech). It can take months to years to be able to recover. It's important for the people to know that acupuncture can help with stroke victims for a speedy recovery. As long as stroke victims stay committed to being fully recovered by receiving acupuncture consistently and has therapy then there is a good chance they will be able to live a normal life again.” He added.

Asked about anti-stroke drugs and medicines like for high cholesterol and hypertension in relation to stroke, he said: “The less prescription drugs a person takes would be advisable. Diet and exercise is the key in maintaining good health. It is possible to get rid of hypertension and high cholesterol with acupuncture together with eating certain nutritious foods like fish, fruits/vegetables and adding fiber to the diet.

“Massage and reflexology are likewise therapeutic and can help relax the body and ease pain. The good thing about drug free alternative treatments is there are no side effects. Acupuncture helps restore balance in the body by getting to the root of the problem. These are all good tools in preventing and treating stroke,” he disclosed.

Dr. Zosa said: Stroke patients need acupuncture daily or three times per week at least. A session takes around 45 minutes up to 1 hour. Q. Besides the reason that your father inspired you, what made you choose acupuncture as your field of expertise?

A. I was always inspired by Eastern Philosophy. Buddhism, Feng Shui, and Tai Qi really intrigued me. Finding out that a person can be healed with needles and herbs is what made me interested in taking up acupuncture and going to school for it.

Q. What makes a good acupuncturist?

A. Patients experiencing positive results is what makes a good acupuncturist. Incorporating diet, meditation, and exercise in the program. Communicating and explaining clearly which points he/she will be needling to the patient and why. What sets me apart from most MD"s and acupuncturist is that when I prescribe an herbal formula, I give a xerox copy of what my patient will be ingesting. If you go to a doctor and tell him/her your chief complaints, all they do is write on a prescription pad a drug. From there you go to the pharmacy and pick up your medication. It's very important that people understand what the side effects are with these drugs. To me it's sad how all these celebrities are dying left and right and people still taking these drugs. My goal here in the Philippines is to let everybody know that there is an alternative to prescription medicine. There is a misconception that the more drugs a person takes, the healthier they will become. Q. If acupuncture is the best alternative medicine today, what do you think made it so?

A. The fact that it is natural, safe and effective makes it the best form of medicine out there. It has been around for thousands of years so you know that it is a superior form of medicine. Each condition whether it's headache, back pain, irregular menstruation has an imbalance in one of the organs. Q. Does electric stimulation make acupuncture more effective?

A. Electro acupuncture is effective for certain types of pain such as knee pain and plantar fasciitis.

Q. Please differentiate acupuncture from acupressure.

A. Acupressure is superficial and has temporary effects while acupuncture is lasting because needles are being used and regulates the flow of qi in the body.

Q. What are the long term effects of acupuncture?

A. Living a healthy lifestyle and being prescription drug free are just a few of the long term benefits of acupuncture. If people were to neglect their health, it's going to cost them in the long run. You figure a stroke or heart attack will run a person in the hundreds of thousands of pesos. Acupuncture is about preventive medicine so they don't end up in the ER.

Q. Does acupuncture have any side effects?

A. There are no known side effects with acupuncture. If you were to type in the search engine acupuncture/deaths per year, it would be zero. Prescription meds/death per year are in the hundreds of thousands. It's important for people to know that every prescription med always has a side effect. It also does damage to the liver and kidneys and other organs of the body.

Q. Medicines have overdose, how about acupuncture?

A. How much is too much? Each herbal formula has a recommended dose. It's important that patients follow the recommended dosage.

Q. Acupuncture originated in China. Some people say, only Chinese Acupuncturists can do it best. What can you say about it?

A. Yes it did originate in China however it spread all over Asia over the last thousand years or so. So now there are different forms of acupuncture. But whatever the form (Korean, Chinese, Japanese) they all still adhere to the basic principles of acupuncture which is healing through correcting the body's imbalance. So nowadays it's a matter of personal preference for whichever technique a patient feels comfortable with. As long as the practitioner has studied under a credible teacher, went to a school, had training in a clinic, took the boards and are licensed in acupuncture.

Q. What’s your message to people who would like to try acupuncture treatment and to those who would like to be acupuncturists themselves?

A. I would definitely recommend acupuncture to people who have any health concerns. And to answer the most commonly asked question, no it doesn't hurt!!

Q. What do you think is the future of acupuncture in the Philippines?

A. The reason why I moved back is because I can see that the people here are starting to become very health conscious. It's my goal to educate the public on the benefits of acupuncture and how amazing this form of medicine is! I'm very optimistic because the people, especially my patients are getting tired of taking prescription medication and want to live a healthy lifestyle. I had the privilege of giving lectures to a group of medical doctors in China and they were totally receptive to the effects of success of acupuncture. Acupuncture is being utilized now in top medical hospitals like Harvard, Yale, John Hopkins in coordination with mainstream modalities or treatment. They have acupuncturist working hand in hand with them in treating diseases. I can see it as an accepted form of medical treatment here in the Philippines. Besides prescription medicines are very expensive here in the Philippines and very few people can afford to buy. In the long term, acupuncture when used with herbs has a safer and much better result.

NETWORKING EXPERT CITES WHY BINARY NETWORKING IS POPULAR

“Networking has become an accepted profession almost worldwide. In fact, billionaires Bill Gates and Donald Trump said if they have to start all over again to build wealth, they will go into networking. In the Philippines, Binary Networking seems to be the most popular.”

Thus said Mandy Gangcuangco, an independent Multi-level Marketing (MLM) consultant who has been in the industry for more than 20 years doing the networking schemes of various MLM companies.

According to him, there are different types of compensation plans used in multi-level marketing and they are: Matrix, Unilevel, Stairstep and Binary.

In the Matrix Plan, the distributor gets benefits or rewards after completion of a certain matrix. The major problem here is the need for perfect duplication or, to be precise, completion or total filling up of the matrix before one earns, which could take a very long time if at all it will be perfected.

Gangcuangco said that in the Unilevel Plan, the distributor earns from his/her direct referral or recruit up to a certain level, say, up to the 4th level or 10th level. Any sale to or by a new downline beyond the limit, one will no longer benefit from. There lies the perceived unfairness: you don’t earn from sales of people beyond the specified level when it is in those levels that the real big volume of sales will come.

Menwhile, in the Stairstep Plan most commonly used by American companies, the higher ranks get differential income from the lower ranks. The temptation here is to stockpile on inventory so that you will move up the ladder and enjoy higher income per sale of your network. This requires a lot of capital. The problem lies when you can’t sell your inventory. Moreover, your most successful distributors will "breakaway" from you at a certain point as there are limited levels in this ladder-type plan.

He stressed in the Binary or Matched Sales Plan, the distributor earns from pairing or matched sales of two groups of downlines up to infinity with certain limitations based on the systems used. There lies the reason for its popularity: Theoretically, you only need to sell to two motivated individuals who will also sell to two similarly motivated individuals and so on and so forth, and your income is up to infinite levels!

However, he said the problem with the Traditional Binary Plan is that it can and always result in overpay, meaning, the company eventually will be paying more in commissions than it is earning in total sales.

Lately, Gangcuangco said, a few companies have introduced a new style of the Binary Plan. Some companies aptly call it Win-Win Binary. Even a financial institution under the First Country Group adopted it and called it Actuarially-Safe Binary for its Freedom Planners program.

“Win-Win or Actuarially-Safe Binary is fair and profitable to both the company and the networker/distributor. The basic difference is this: Traditional Binary is based on Per/Day Limit (which can be manipulated). Win-Win/Actuarially-Safe Binary, on the other hand, is based on Per/Level Limit, which cannot be manipulated,” he explained.

He pointed out that “Win-Win or Actuarially Safe Binary” is the fairest compensation plan to both company and distributor. Networking is a relationship business. Thus, it is important that the company’s compensation plan is safe.

Rep. Eduardo “EDZA” C. Zialcita (1st District, Parañaque City) was elected First Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) First Standing Committee on Peace and International Security at the last sitting of the Committee on Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

The IPU is the international organization of Parliaments of sovereign States with 153 members, of which the Philippines is a member. The IPU, which meets in Assembly twice a year, is the focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and cooperation among people and for the firm establishment of representative democracy.

The election of Zialcita took place during the 120th Assembly of the IPU recently held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia last April 5-10, 2009. Prior to his election, the congressman was first endorsed by the ASEAN+3 Group of the IPU and was then unanimously nominated by the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) of the IPU as its candidate for the vacancy.

He takes over from Mr. S.P. Morin, member of the House of Representatives of Indonesia. The other members of the Committee include Mr. T. Boa (Côte d'Ivoire), who is currently President of the Committee), Mr. B. Boutouiga (Algeria), Mr. V. Likhachev (Russian Federation), and Mr. A. Gutierrez Cueva (Peru).

Zialcita will represent the APG, one of the six geo-political groups in the IPU, in this Standing Committee. The members of the Standing Committee meet at every IPU Assembly and fulfill a number of statutory tasks, including the consideration of proposals submitted by the Members of the Union for the subject items and of candidatures for the co-Rapporteurs for future Assemblies.

Beginning from the 12th Congress, Zialcita has been a prolific legislator, authoring or sponsoring several bills of notable local and national significance that have been enacted into law, such as: R.A. 9229 - the redistricting of Parañaque City into two legislative districts; R.A. 9257 – the Expanded Senior Citizen’s Act of 2004 (Magna Carta for Senior Citizens), an act which provides more benefits and privileges to the senior citizens; R.A.9376 – creating five additional trial courts in Parañaque City; and R.A. 9465 – Anti-Red Tape Act, an act which reduces bureaucratic red tape in government transactions thereby eliminating graft and corruption.

With only a few days before the Holy Week, the faithful should ponder on subjects that can stir their faith to greater heights or simply turn their attention to a divine revelation that has long been disclosed worldwide.

The international press is aware of this revelation, disclosed for the first time through a press conference in Los Angeles in 1982. The revelation - Jesus Christ is already here on earth, just waiting to be sought! And if the media looked for Him, He would allow himself to be discovered. Unfortunately, the media failed to fulfill their role, and so Maitreya set in motion a gradual emergence of His own.

The weekly radio program "The Emergence of the World Teacher" (referring to no other than Lord Maitreya, another name for Jesus Christ, World Teacher for this Age) has been a potent source of information here in the Philippines, on the much-awaited "Reappearance or the Second Coming of Christ."

Aired every Sunday over AM station DWDD, 1134 kHz, from 6 pm to 7 pm, anchor Hector Fernandez and discussants Suzette Palma and Ric Aquino, has been effectively handling the said program in such a way that it has been generating a lot of listeners who phone in or text their questions to enlighten themselves on the issues being tackled in every episode.

Fernandez, who also heads the Reappearance Information Center here in the Philippines, is an affiliate of Share International, a spiritual organization based in London and founded in the 1970’s by Benjamin Crème, a British artist and esotericist, spiritual lecturer, author and editor of Share International magazine. Since then, over the last 15 years, the organization has been propagating and disseminating information about the Second Coming of the Lord Maitreya.

Information about the Christ’s emergence came primarily from Crème, who said that unknown to many, Christ himself has reentered the world in June 1977 and made His presence known and felt everywhere.

He added that the Christ descended in July 1977 from his ancient retreat in the Himalayas and took up residence in the Asian community of London. For several years now, Crème has been predicting several world events, many of which have seen fulfillment.

To top it all, Maitreya was likewise said to have appeared in June 11, 1988 before 6,000 worshippers in the Church of Bethlehem, in a Muslim Village in Kawangware, Nairobi, Kenya. He addressed the crowds and later vanished.

An international press conference wherein Maitreya will present His credentials will lead to the Day of Declaration, when He will appear on the radio and television networks of the world linked by satellite.

On that great day, Maitreya will mentally overshadow all humanity simultaneously. All will hear his words inwardly in their own language: this telepathic communication will reach everyone, not only those watching or listening, and hundreds of thousands of miraculous healings will take place throughout the world, leaving no doubt that He, and only He, is the Christ, the World Teacher of all humanity.

Maitreya’s message can be summarized in a few words: "Share and save the world". In this way we can put an end to the threat of war, oppression and hunger. Sharing the world’s resources is the key to humanity’s salvation, for without sharing there can be no justice, without justice there can be no peace, and without peace we shall not survive. He counsels us: "Take your brother’s need as the measure for your action and solve the problems of the world. There is no other course".

If we go back to history and even up to this point in time, every time we talk of chronic muscle pain, it is always a pain, meaning to say when you go to a hospital, you will have to undergo several expensive tests just to establish a diagnosis. Treatment may take many sessions.”, Dr. Mancao explained.

“If it’s a migraine headache, we doctors try to treat it with drugs when a one-second manipulation can remove the pain instantly. Drugs have well-known negative effects. One of the latest report on adverse drug reactions in America is that it kills about 400,000 Americans a year,” he disclosed.

Dr. Mancao went on to say, “Medicines for arthritis (NSAID’s) given for pain likewise kills 20,000 Americans annually. To be fair to their patients, he believes doctors should give their patients something better, like knowing how to do a manipulation. According to him, Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, taught and admonished doctors on how to do medical practice properly, by being proficient in the art of “anatripsis”, which is nothing but manipulation, an art most of them have not been taught in medical school.”

During the controversial Gulf war in 1990, he was sent by the National Security Council as a volunteer physician for Operation Salaam of “DESERT STORM”. His work experience has mainly been on hospital management and trauma surgery from military and vehicular injuries and industrial accidents. This has given him enough familiarity with how bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments interplay and work.

“ Junior doctors will first see the patient in pain, then they will refer their patient to the senior consultants and the patient will still be in pain. They have used most of the medicines in the pharmacy, they have gone through physical therapy, neurology or even psychiatry. The patient will eventually be referred to you being the boss of the hospital,” he recalled.

“What can you do which the other doctors have not done? That puts you in a management dilemma. You now have to refer the patient to the next higher level hospital where the poor patient again starts going up the consultation and referral ladder. The suffering patient suffers more as more invasive procedures are requested. More blood examinations, EMG-NCV’s, MRI’s and many more.” he laments.

This could be the main reason which drove Dr. Mancao to devise his Mancao Myofascial Release to help people in pain. In fact, he started doing this method in 1990 right in the middle of the Gulf war and perfected it in 1995. He got to apply it on so many patients and they were very happy with the results.

His remarkable innovation relieves pain instantly by a reflex response brought about by a controlled massive release of the patients’ own morphine called “beta-endorphins” through a brief manipulation of specific parts of the body. In doing a standard manipulation or myofascial release, 15 seconds is all that is needed and the pain is immediately relieved, the patient’s range of motion is dramatically improved and a sudden sensation of relief is experienced. With it, you can remove a migraine headache in 1 second or stop a bronchial asthmatic attack in 4 to 6 seconds. The usual neck pain, shoulder pain, and back pain due to scoliosis can be relieved in less than 15 seconds or more appropriately, 2 minutes. My method is very fast to execute, gives immediate relief, it is the most practical, it can be done nearly anywhere, and the bottom line is that it works!” he enthused.

How effective is it for a migraine headache and other common ailments? “Generally, as a rule it’s only one myofascial treatment for migraine headaches and the pain relief would be about 9 months to 2 years. It’s one of the best for a fever, because you are going to sweat right away and the fever goes down. Strokes would be nice to do, because once the patient starts standing and walking then their recovery period is much, much shorter,” he pointed out.

In myofascial release, he evaluates the patient immediately, so he will know exactly which muscle is affected, and after he has identified the cause, he treats him right away. He said nobody is really normal because in every individual there are mechanical problems like the range of motion, which is abnormal and this is what should be addressed.

“In medical school, we were never taught that. We were never taught how to examine muscles, painful muscles or tender muscles. And here in what I am doing now, I am so satisfied because I establish the diagnosis, I know where the problem really is and I can address the problem in so short a time, so the patients are generally very much satisfied, ” Dr. Mancao emphasized.

“Chronic muscle pain is called chronic kasi di naaalis, palagi lang nandiyan. Now how do you break that vicious amplifying circle of pain? That’s the crux of the matter. If there is a person or a practitioner who has a method to break that circle, then the pain will be addressed properly,” he rationalized.

He cited that today, most of pain management is handled by anesthesiologists, but they themselves are also suffering from chronic muscle pain syndromes. We have not been taught properly how to handle chronic muscle pain syndromes in medical school and we have not been given a better method of how to relieve that pain.

“In many instances, I have had patients who are supposed to be operated for their low back pain and the day before their hospital surgery, they come here for a third, fourth, or fifth opinion. After their myofascial treatment, they defer their surgery,” he says amusingly.

“I also have patients who are admitted in big hospitals and who are in severe pain. But when they hear about what I do, they come here with much difficultly with two people assisting them. But after my treatment, the patient walks out of the room faster than those who previously assisted him!”

Is there pain during treatment? Dr. Mancao notes: “As we say, no pain, no gain. In doing the first 2 seconds of a standard manipulation, there is some pain. But we call this a welcome pain, because when you initiate a pain stimuli, it makes the body release its beta-endophins. We control the percentage of beta-endophin release during the manipulation, so the patient immediately feels that sense of well-being after the manipulation.”

But he also related to us a dramatic case of a 14-yer old son of a general who suffered severe leg pains. His mother has already brought him to 4 major tertiary hospitals in Manila, but no diagnosis of the boy has been established despite work-outs, including MRI, EMG-NCV, a battery of blood chemistries and medicines including anti-depressants.

“When touched, he had convulsive-like seizures and what’s worst is that his mom had already read his suicide note. But he was transformed back to his normal self, after only 3 sessions of my myofascial release treatment. Happy and now pain-free, he first, kept on referring patients to us so they will likewise reap the benefits of our treatment. But since he was also one of our first myofascial release-trained practitioners, he is now on his own healing those who like him before, are in agony and pain.
