Constipation is the passing of infrequent and hard stools, due to the colon absorbing too much water or if the colon muscle is too sluggish. This results in stools becoming hard, dry and difficult to pass.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Everyone's bowel habits vary - some will pass stools several times a day, while others maybe only several times a week. You know you are constipated when you have bowel movement changes causing you to defecate less frequently and are having trouble passing stools.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Almost everyone experiences this at some point in their lives and it can have various causes including: not enough fiber in your diet, lack of exercise, dairy products, certain medications, changes in diet, changes in routine, irritable bowel syndrome, dehydration, stress, problems with the colon/intestines, etc.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Causes of Constipation&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Babies&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Babies can also become constipated at times when there are changes to their diet i.e. moving from breast to bottled milk or when they are being weaned onto solid foods. Bottle fed babies are more likely to become constipated than breast fed babies. Breast fed babies may only pass a stool once a week due to most of the milk being absorbed into the gut, but this is normal and does not mean they are constipated.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Children&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Children may suffer from constipation during times of change in their diet or routine (change in home situation, change in school, etc). They may also develop a vicious cycle when they pass a painful stool and it frightens them into withholding the next stool. Due to the straining, they end up tearing anal tissue, which then makes the pain worse and so the withholding worse.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Toilet training can also be traumatic for children and can lead to withholding stools and chronic constipation. If you're having problems toilet training your child, then postpone it for a while and try again. Some children are toilet trained by the time they are 18 months old and others, not until they are 3 years old. Every child is different and this is something that you should not try to enforce until they are ready to be trained.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There are other things which can cause your child's constipation, which can be the same as those described for an adult...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Adults&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The main cause of constipation in adults is usually due to dietary habits, so make sure you are getting lots of fiber in your diet - fresh fruit, beans and lots of vegetables. Also, make sure that you are drinking plenty of water every day.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Lack of exercise can also play a role because inactivity can also make the bowel sluggish, so try to make sure you get regular exercise.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When you feel the urge to have a bowel movement you should always go (if possible). Postponing bowel movements is not good (for any age group) as it can lead to chronic constipation.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As mentioned for children, changes in your lifestyle/daily routine can also cause constipation. Even going on vacation can interrupt normal regularity since you are often eating meals at different times, eating different foods, etc.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There are, of course, illnesses that may cause constipation, such as cystic fibrosis, under active thyroid, digestive abnormalities and any illness which comes with a fever. Stress too can also be a factor.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When to Call the Doctor&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Occasional bouts of constipation for any age group are nothing to worry about, however, you should contact your doctor if:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Babies&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If your baby does not pass a stool within 24 hours of being born seek medical attention as they could have an abnormality of the bowel. Also, if your baby is irritable and off his/her food, especially if there is any blood in the stool or small tears around the anus as these are signs that they are passing hard stools.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Children&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In children, if you notice any of the following symptoms and they are not gone after three days, then you should consult a doctor: if there is any blood in the stools or anal tearing; abdominal pain and/or increasing pain when passing stools; the child soiling their pants; and the constipation may also be accompanied by vomiting.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Adults&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The symptoms can be much the same in adults as they are for children, but you can try some self care at home by adjusting your diet, increasing your fiber, drinking lots of concentrated fruit juice and vegetable juice. Call your doctor if there is no improvement after two weeks.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

Another method is to block the blood supply to the fibroids by injecting the vessels with plastic "beads", the theory being that the fibroids will shrivel and dry up. A procedure called "Endometrial Ablation" can also be used whereby heat is introduced into the womb. This effectively removes the womb lining and is unsuitable for women who may wish to have children.&lt;br /&gt;

Finally, in extreme cases, a hysterectomy may be recommended. This is major surgery and the loss of the womb can have both deep physical and mental side effects. It should therefore be avoided if at all possible.&lt;br /&gt;

The main drawback with conventional treatment options for fibroids that it focuses on treating the symptoms of fibroids and not the root causes. This means that although you might feel relief in the short term, the root causes are still there, meaning that your fibroids will regrow even after surgical removal.&lt;br /&gt;

This rise in chronic diseases has also coincided with the rise of intensive animal and agricultural farming. Animals are routinely dosed with growth hormones and antibiotics.&lt;br /&gt;

Chemical weedkillers, many of which have been banned in recent years, notably DDT, were approved by governments all over the world. And yet these were widely used for many years.&lt;br /&gt;

This post was geared toward skinny hardgainers who have hit a plateau and are unable to gain any more mass. I could not believe the positive feedback I received from my readers for the post. As a result, I decided to create the same type of post, this time geared toward people interested in losing more weight. I have come up with what I believe to be the top 5 reasons why you are not losing weight. Whether you have lost some weight and are unable to lose more or just interested in doing so, this list can be your guide to achieving your goal successfully.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mistaking low fat foods for healthy foods&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first thing people do when trying to lose weight is decide that they will go on a diet. The average person would tell you that changing to low fat products is part of a weight loss diet. This could not be more wrong; in fact, most low fat products are actually more fattening. How can low fat be more fattening? It's actually very simple; the main problem with weight gain is not how much fat we consume, but how many simple carbohydrates and sugars we consume. These simple carbohydrates are taken in by the body and stored as fat quit fast. So what do I have against the low fat foods? Well, I appreciate the fact that it's less grams of fat, but I don't appreciate the fact that they have to compensate with more simple carbohydrates and sugars. So now you are eating less grams of fat in your diet, but you could easily be doubling your non complex carbohydrate intake.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cheating on your diet&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the most basic but probably the most common mistake people make when trying to lose weight. Have you ever heard someone say "ill just have to run a little extra today" after deciding to cheat on there diet? More then likely you have heard it more then a few times. Let me give you a simple but good example of how bad this is. Let us say your session is usually walking uphill on the treadmill for 45 minutes and you burn about 300 calories (just an example). You consume this "cheat food" and add 250 calories to your day and add 30 minutes to your session. You walk a total of 75 minutes and burn 550 calories total. 250 out of the 550 calories burned are automatically going towards the "cheat food" you decided to take in earlier in the day. Not only have you spent more time in the gym, but you have burned only what you normally burn being there 30 minutes less. You end up spending more time in the gym and getting the same or less results. Would you not rather skip the "cheat food" and run the extra 30 minutes to knockout 550 calories toward your goal? Not only that, but lets be honest, most people don't run that extra 30 minutes on the day they cheated. If they do run extra, it is probably a 10-15 minute difference from there normal day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Relying too much on fat burn supplements&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the one I have the biggest problem with. People take these fat burn pills and automatically assume that they are going to shrink there waist line with little to no effort. Here is the deal; the fat burn pills on the market require a specific diet and workout routine. Do fat burn pills work? Yes, I would say there are a few products that show great results. Problem is people assume that because they are on the supplement that they can eat worse and workout less. This is completely bogus; these pills only provide the ability to burn fat at a faster rate when your body is in the "fat burn zone". Taking these fat burn supplements can become a huge problem for people that are oblivious to these facts. These are the people who will actually gain weight or see little to no results while taking these pills.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Are these pills necessary to lose weight? This period is going to happen at one point of another; the cause is simply your body completely adjusting to your workout and diet routine to the point where it does not feel like any changes are necessary.
