We were very glad to host the Districtwise inauguration of the NSS Day celebration in our college. It was a proudful moment for us.

Sri.Ramesh Pisharadi, Malayalam Cine-Television Star inaugurated the programme by kindling the step lamp. Prof.M.C.Dileep , member syndicate, M.G.University presided over the function. Prof.C.H.Abdul Latheef , member syndicate , M.G.University, Dr.Margret George, College principal,Prof. K.K Rajeev,College Vice principal, Sri Akhil Nath UUC, Govt. College, Tripunithura were present and felicitated the occasion.

Kum. Shilpa Raj, NSS volunteer, welcomed the gathering . Kum. Rekha , NSS volunteer secretary, Gov. college Tripunithura delivered the vote of thanks.

We arranged an orientation class on 22.09.2012. Sri. Joshy Varghese, Faculty of Rajagiri College, Kalamassery handled the session. He stressed the relevance of NSS,how to improve the performance of NSS. He also added that our youth is been affected by less service mentality and other problems faced by today’s youth. He said that the students must try to form a cultural and traditional gathering in every village under the banner of NSS volunteers.

The occasion have been started with the welcome of Aneesh a NSS volunteer and the same was concluded by Nimya Thankappan an other NSS volunteer.

Another prestigious moments of our NSS units is the inaugural ceremony of Post graduate courses in the college. This programme is fully managed by the ‘Event Management Team’ of our NSS unit in a professional way. On 17.9.2012 the inauguration of our college’s PG courses was done by Hon. Excise and Port minister K.Babu. The PG Courses was the long time dream of our college which had came true on the same occasion. . In this occasion, honorable minister awarded the mementos of PTA to Dr. Margaret George, principal and to Sri. Biju Gopal, NSS Programme Officer and to the NSS unit.

On September 5^th 2012, we celebrated teacher’s day in our college. We conducted a programme named as “GURUVANDANAM”. All the teachers in our college took part in the programme. Principal delivered a Teachers Day message on the occasion. All the teachers shared there experiences happened in their teaching life.

Kum. Rekha. R, Volunteer Secretary welcomed the gatherings and the Kum. Sabitha , Volunteer Secretary, expressed vote of thanks to all teachers and the students to make the programme a grand success.

We celebrated our Onam on 24.8.2012 .On behalf of NSS we had conducted two challenging and interesting competitions ie; Malayalee manka and malayala sreeman for both girls & boys in our college. Lots of students had took participation in the competition. The participants were in traditional dresses of kerala and they answered the questions of judges.

Two winners were selected from the participants and the winners have been awarded cash prize by the college principal.

We celebrated the Independence day with all patriotism and respect on 15^th Aug 2011 . Flag was hosted by Prof.(Dr.) Margret George our honorable Principal at 8.30am in the morning. All volunteers together saluted the flag and sang national integration songs. Then Principal gave us an Independence Day message. After that volunteer secretary distributed sweets to the volunteers and neighbors.

All the volunteers together done the cleaning works in the college campus. Programme concluded at 3.30pm.

We organized a one day orientation programme for our new N.S.S volunteers who enrolled this year. Our programme officer Prof. Biju Gopal handled the session. He explained about NSS; its objectives, motto and major thrust area of activities.

Nearly 90 students attended the class. After the lunch volunteers learned NSS song, NSS clap etc. The programme came to an end by 3.30 PM

We observed world population day and conducted a debate on the topic “ Population increase a boon or curse”. 20 students were participated. They actively participated in the debate by forming two group. Sri. Biju Gopal ( Programme officer ) was the moderator of the debate.

The teachers also watched the programme fully and their opinion also contributed much to make meaningful and informative

We observed World Reading day on June 19^th. Prof. Simi K. Vijayan (Programme officer), Assistant Professor in Malayalam delivered a message to the students. She stressed the importance of reading and also pointed out the problems of the students of this age due to abstain from reading.

We conducted a reading contest for the students. More than 20 students participated in the contest. Dr. Biju T. Assistant Professor in Commerce, Prof. Suresh Babu, Associate Professor in Politics ,Prof. Biju Gopal, Assistant Professor in Commerce were judged the performances. Dr. Biju. T, delivered a key note address. Winners are awarded cash prize by the college principal.

ENVIRONMENT DAY (5th JUNE 2012)

We observed the environment day by planting saplings in the campus. The function was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Margret George, our principal by planting saplings. We made a small garden in our college campus by planting small plants. Around 15 saplings were planted by the volunteers in our small campus.

We observed the environment day by planting sapling in the campus . We planted 15 saplings on 5th june 2012. The function was inaugrated by planting a sapling by our honourable principle Government college tripunithura.

CAP HELP DESK

We started our activities for the academic year 2012-13 by setting a ‘CAP Help Desk’ in the college on 22.05.2012 for helping the candidates who are seeking admission to UG programme in the colleges affiliated under Mahatma Gandhi University through CAP, a single window for online registration programme.

College principal Dr. Margaret George inaugurated the help desk by registering the name of one candidate. NSS programme officers gave proper training about the CAP procedure and directions to the volunteers to administer the programme. We arranged the facilities for Primary registration and option registration by arranging 3 computer nodes at a time with adequate volunteers in addition to the telephonic assistance. Every day, help desk started from 9.30 am to 5 Pm.

In line with the university envisaged programme of ‘NSS pusthakkottil’, we collected old text from students and teachers. The Sri. C. H. Abdul Latheef , Member Syndicate, Mahatma Gandhi University, inaugurated the programme. Principal, Dr. Margrat George, put a collection of text in the cradle. We collected a wide range of texts covering comics ,short stories, Novels, Poems and motivational texts. It is decided to hand over the texts to the neighbouring schools and local liabraries.

In this modern complex world, life to human beings become full of stress and tension. Students life is more vulnerable to its effects. Proper mentoring Is the need of the day. In this context, we organised a session on Mentoring and Meditation.

Dr. Sanku Panikkar, Director, ‘Thadhasthu’ a meditation centre , Aluva handled the session. He explained different reasons for stress and its symptoms. He practiced his meditation oriented approach in the session. In that spiritual occasion, students identified themselves and realised their mistakes. During that time, the hall was filled with weeping sound and crying of students. It was the stage of confession and repentance.

80 stressed, reserved or gloomy and having unusual behaviour students are selected for the session from the college .Kum. Aswathy Krishnan ,Volunteer secretary and Sam Purushothaman ,Volunteer Secretary accounted welcome speech and vote of thanks respectively.

‘BODY, MIND –AWARENESS AND COUNSELLING’

The NSS organised a one day seminar in association with Women cell of the college on ‘Body, Mind – Awareness and Counselling’ on 10.01.2012, Thursday .Dr Gracy Thomas ,Gynaecologist, Adarsh, NRHM Eranakulam and Dr. Divya Ajay, Psychologist and Counsellor took the class. They allowed the boys too attend the programme. They provided proper sex education to students and clarified their doubts

Around 300 students attended the program including 180 NSS volunteers. Principal and teachers also were present. The seminar developed in an interactive mode and it helped students to clarified their doubts properly. Krishnalal , a volunteer welcomed the audience and the resource person and Aswathy Krishnan accounted vote of thanks.

WORK SHOP ON HARDWARE AND NETWORKING

The Career guidance Cell of NSS organised a one day workshop on ‘Hardware and Networking’. In this information age , the job prospects in this area is very high. This workshop aimed to introduce this service sector properly and make them aware about its potentials. Besides provide a basic practical knowledge about the computer hardware and its servicing. Since the computer becomes household equipment, this knowledge will help them to solve many small computer problems.

The workshop has been progressed in two sessions. In the forenoon session covered the theoretical part by demonstrating different parts of the computer and its functions. In the afternoon session, computer assembling is demonstrated and assist the volunteers to assemble the computers themselves. Faculties from ‘Excel Academy’ Palarivattom managed the sessions.

ART FROM WASTE- WORKSHOP

We have organised a workshop on flower making. Smt. Chinnamma led the class. She demonstrated and taught the volunteers for making a variety of flowers and bouquet. Flower from plastic bag, vegetable leaves; vegetable waste, sponge, pencil scraps soap etc are some of the varieties. She also taught to making some beautiful flowers using materials purchased from the market.

CAREER SEMINAR-‘ THE WORLD OF ANIMATION’

The Career cell of NSS has organised a one day seminar and workshop on Animation and its career opportunities .A team of faculties from PROVICD institute handled the session. They narrated and demonstrated the animation techniques and procedures in simple and interesting manner. The first session of the class was about the theoretical side of the animation and about the industry. It clearly draws out the picture of the animation industry and its requirements. The afternoon session was really a workshop. The demonstrated how is an animation created. They gave a practical session to the volunteers.

We could spot out many high potential talents among the volunteers for this industry. 63 students attended the programme. Kum.Rekha (2^nd Semester B.Com), volunteer ,welcomed the faculties and volunteers and Kum. Ambily Balachandran (4^th Semester B.Com), NSS volunteer expressed the vote of thanks. The programme disbursed with national anthem by 4 PM

REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION (26-01-2012)

We celebrated the Republic day with all pride and patriotism .The Principal Dr. Margaret George, hoisted the flag at 8.15 AM. Volunteers sung national integration songs loudly while hoisting the flag. After that Principal gave the message to the volunteers.

She stressed the importance and relevance of republic day celebration in present scenario. Programme officer Prof. Simi.K.Vijayan shared some thoughts with the students in the light of terrorism and fascism. Volunteer secretary distributed sweets to the volunteers.

After that, volunteers made a ‘coin India’, decorated with very old coins which was prevailed in India before and after independence.

ONE DAY SEMINAR- ‘CYBER CRIME’(20TH JAN 2012)

In the light of increasing cyber crime and practices, we organised a seminar on ‘Cyber world – awareness of Rights and Crime’ for educating the students about various knots and traps in internet, in association with college women cell.
Sri, Francis Peter, Sub Inspector, Cyber cell, Ernakulum was the resource person. He explained different practices in cyber world which comes under cyber crimes by quoting incidents. He touched the area of rights of the internet using people. He also gave some tips to avoid the problems while using the internet.

The whole students attended the programme, including around 145 volunteers. The class started at 11 AM and concluded at 1.15 PM. Nikhil N.K. Volunteer secretary made the welcome speech and Sam Purushohaman, volunteer Secretary delivered vote of thanks.

ORATORY CLUB(7th JAN 2012)

It is club formed under the banner of NSS objective of providing a platform to our volunteers to practice and improve their oratory skills and make them confident for appearing interviews and discussions.
In every Wednesday, students meet together in the evening in a class with a specific topic and talk one by one by addressing the audience. Finally they themselves corrected their mistake and disburse with another topic for next weak. Besides this, the club has been organising various talks of celebrities in this field and organises debate and discussions on various relevant topics. Last year Sri. C.K. Nair, Novelist inaugurated the club.

For the smooth functioning, we gave the charge of this club to another two smart and very active volunteers. They are discharging their duties in excellent way by conducting the sessions regularly and organising talks, debates and discussions.

7 DAYS SPECIAL CAMP – 2011

We conducted our special camp at Government U.P. School, Maravanthuruthu, Vaikom from 24-12-2011 to 30-12-2011.The theme of the camp was ‘Self reliance of youth through Entrepreneurship”.
The camp was inaugurated by Sri. Ajith, M.L.A , Vaikom legislative assembly at 4 PM. Sri.Karuthukunju, ward member presided over the function. Smt. Pushpamony, Kottayam Disrict block member, Sri. K.P Baby, Ward member, Smt Vineetha Sabu, Ward member, School headmistress, College principal and Vice principal and College Union Chairman were attended the function. It comes to an end by 6 PM.

A total of 100 students were registered in the camp including 64 girls. The whole volunteers are grouped into 6 groups during the ice breaking session. The session is managed by Sri. Biju Gopal, Programme officer. After the supper we went to bed by 11PM.

On the next day, 25-12-2011, all volunteers are assembled at 6 AM at school ground. Assembly is started with NSS song, Exercise, message for the day, news paper reading, and previous day report presentation were the routine procedures of the assembly in all days.

Camus beautification, compound wall painting, prepare a three dimensional map of kerala in ground, built a platform around the foot of the mango tree were the project we undertook in the camp. The Major works were very unconventional to our previous camp. It was a nice experience to the volunteers. With the help of the alumni of the school, we collected sufficient materials for platform.

The classes arranged were mainly based on the theme of the camp. Mr. Ajayakumar, Project officer (Higher) from industrial department (Topic – Self employment scheme) , Sri. Paulson, a large farm owner (Topic- White revolution), Dr. Bindu ,Deputy manager, VSOP(Topic – Food Processing), Sri. Roopesh Kumar, National and Inter national award winner of Responsible Tourism (Topic- Responsible Tourism) were handled the class sessions.

The interactive session with successful industrialist was interesting and inspiring to the volunteers. They modified the volunteers business ideas with their experience. Sri. Raju, industrialist, Sri .Babu, ,business man (owner of Gentleman Groups ) and sri.Santhosh ,Owner of Glory boots and a Beauty Parlour were attended the session.

We also had a very exciting and competing debate and discussion round. The very contemporary relevant topic ;’The moral policing in kerala’ and ‘whether the medias dis..

We could made two farm visit ; a cow farm at T.V.Puram and a Aqua Tourism Project at Thalayazham ,Vechoor were motivational and made them close to the theme of the camp.

The camp came to an end on 30-12-2011 by 2 pm.

We organised a Pre-Special camp Orientation class to the volunteers who are registered for the special camp-2011.Progamme officer Sri. Biju Gopal explained about the theme and nature of activities to be planned at camp site. A briefing about the camp place, natives, geographical features, scheduled classes etc. are made.

The volunteers are divided into 6 groups and discussed various aspects of camp for setting the standards and norms to be followed in the camp. Volunteers were actively and enthusiastically participated. 92 students were participated in this full day programme.

‘VIJAY DIVAS’ (16TH DECEMBER , 2011 )

We observed the ‘Vijay Divas’ with one minute silent prayer for the sole of courageous militants who fought and died for protecting our nations boundaries and our safety in 1971 Indo- Pak war.
The principal warned the students to be alert, conscious and set the mind ready to fight against terrorism which is spreading as a wild fire. Students pledged to join hand in hand for fighting against the terrorism and separatism. The volunteer secretary read out the pledge in the occasion. It was a ceremony of monument to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the wellbeing and safety of the nation.
We organised the function in association with College union. All most all students participated in the programme.
