Ronald Poppo Pictures - Ronald Poppo, the homeless man left in critical condition 17 days ago in a bloody attack by the so-called Causeway Cannibal, knows that at least half his face was chewed off, one eye was gouged out and he may be blind in the other, his doctors said Tuesday.

In an attack that made headlines around the world, the 65-year-old also suffered a brain injury, a broken rib, and may have been wounded by a bullet fired by the Miami police officer who killed his attacker, doctors revealed. Miami police said Tuesday they had no comment on that possibility.

Still, Poppo's physicians at Jackson Memorial Hospital said he is eating well, not complaining of pain and was looking forward to listening to the first game of the NBA Finals between Miami and Oklahoma City.

"Before I left the room to come down here today he asked me if I'd be watching the game tonight and he told me "Go Heat,' " said Nicholas Namias, a University of Miami physician and director of Jackson's Ryder Trauma Center.

"He is honestly living in the moment. And I don't think I've said this about anyone before, but he's charming. He really is."

In a 45-minute news conference, doctors displayed an hours-old photo of Poppo that shows him with flaps of skin sewn over his eyes, his forehead raw and dappled with scabs, and his nose a mass of disfigured cartilage and bits of skin. Only his mouth, his gray mustache and chin remain undamaged.

Poppo was injured May 26 after police say Rudy Eugene, 31, found him dozing on the MacArthur Causeway, severely beat him, and then spent several minutes chewing on his face. Police speculate that Eugene may have taken a craze-inducing drug. Toxicology results are pending.

Pictures of Poppo were circulated on the Internet within hours of the assault, and the gruesome nature of the attack made it both a horrific sensation and the subject of late-night television jokes.

Poppo is well aware that images of him — both before and after the attack — have been seen by millions, said Wrood Kassira, a plastic surgeon treating him. "He has asked me, what does the media think about him, and what are their thoughts and how are they portraying him," Kassira said. "I said you are a victim of violence."

Once a promising student at prestigious Stuyvesant High School in New York, Poppo dropped out of college and has been living on the streets for about 30 years, according to relatives who thought him dead.

Doctors said they do not know what Poppo's future may hold, but for now he has weeks of hospitalization and many surgeries to endure before he can be released.

"He can touch his face," Kassira said. "He can feel what's missing."

Kassira said she has talked to Poppo about reconstructive surgery. The goal, she said, "is to restore as close to what he had before." He could end up with a prosthetic nose if what is left is too damaged, she said.

What she can not gauge, said Kassira, is how concerned Poppo is about his appearance. "If he doesn't get his vision back, is he more concerned about how he looks, or how the world sees him?" Kassira said. "Those are things to think about with a psychiatrist and mental health workers.

"He says we'll take it one day at a time. He's very practical."

Poppo is taking oral antibiotics to prevent infection, but no other medication, doctors said. He asks for orange juice, pizza and other Italian food.

One brother has been in touch with hospital officials, but no other relatives have visited or called, they said.

Kassira said she has the impression that Poppo — shot once before, in 1976, and arrested many times for drinking and vagrancy — enjoyed his life on the streets.

"He was content in life, swimming in the ocean, getting sun," Kassira said. "But he is not complaining now. He is not a hysterical patient. He's amazing. I don't know how to explain it."

Doctors not involved in Poppo's care have estimated that depending on the number of surgeries he undergoes, and the length of his rehabilitation, expenses could total as much as $1 million. Poppo does qualify for Medicare and Medicaid, hospital officials said.

The costs will be covered by taxpayers and by donations made to a fund set up by the hospital. The fund now contains $15,000, officials said.

German high jumper Ariane Friedrich says she's no stranger to unwanted attention from stalkers. Now the athlete has taken matters into her own hands by publicly revealing the identity of the latest person to harass her.

According to Agence France-Presse, the 28-year-old posted the man's name, hometown and address on her Facebook wall after he allegedly emailed Friedrich an image of his genitals.

"It's time to act; it's time to defend myself. And that's what I'm doing. No more and no less," Friedrich wrote on Facebook.

Fans later took to the athlete's Facebook page both praising and criticizing her for the controversial move.

MSNBC explains the an online debate was fueled by Germany's strict online data protection laws which could have legal implications for Friedrich's actions.

Friedrich, who is also a German police officer, also filed formal charges against the man.

With the London 2012 Olympics just around the corner, Friedrich's coaches tried to downplay the incident, according to Der Spiegel.

Vanessa Coleman has been convicted of facilitating the crimes and sentenced to 53 years in prison, and Eric Dewayne Boyd has been convicted of federal charges as accessory after the fact to carjacking and sentenced to 18 years in prison.The national news media was criticized for allegedly ignoring the story because the victims were white and the suspects black.

On December 1, 2011, new trials were granted by a Special Judge to the defendants due to drug abuse by the later disbarred, presiding judge. Representing the families of the victims and the People, the Tennessee AG filed an appeal in January 2012 trying to block the four retrials. In early March 2012, a Court of Criminal Appeals put a hold on the retrials. An appeals court will decide if there will be retrials. Convicted co-conspirator Vanessa Coleman's retrial is not being contested by the AG. She was given 53 years by the later-disbarred judge.

Miss Suleman claimed her dream of having a big family has turned into a nightmare. She said she was so poor that she had even contemplated suicide.

'The only way I can cope is to lock myself in the bathroom and cry. Sometimes I sit there for hours and even eat my lunch sitting on the toilet floor. Anything to get peace and quiet,' she said.
The reality TV mother has even considered suicide.
'Some days I have thought about killing myself. I cannot cope,' she said.

‘My bank account is overdrawn by $300 (£186) and I have no money to pay for the children’s school, food, or the mortgage,’ she told InTouch magazine.

‘The only way I can cope is to lock myself in the bathroom and cry.
‘Sometimes I sit there for hours and even eat my lunch sitting on the toilet floor – anything to get peace and quiet. Some days I have thoughts about killing myself. I cannot cope.
‘Obviously I love them, but I absolutely wish I had not had them.’

Miss Suleman became internationally famous when she gave birth to her eight babies – two daughters and six sons – in January 2009 after conceiving them through in vitro fertilisation.

Stephanie Seymour, born July 23, 1968 is an American model and actress. Seymour has modeled for many notable fashion magazines and designers and has posed for several well-known photographers including Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Gilles Bensimon and Mario Testino.

At the age of 16, she began dating John Casablancas, the head of Elite Model Management, who was, at the time, married to model Jeanette Christjansen. The couple lived together before Seymour broke off the relationship.
From 1989 to 1990, she was married to guitarist Tommy Andrews. The marriage failed but resulted in the birth of her first son, Dylan Thomas Andrews, in 1991.

By mid-1991 she had become involved with Axl Rose, the lead singer of Guns N' Roses. She appeared in two music videos by Guns N' Roses: "Don't Cry" and "November Rain". The couple broke up in February 1993 after Rose accused Seymour of being unfaithful. In August 1993, Rose sued Seymour for assaulting him during a 1992 Christmas party, for mental and emotional abuse, and for withholding $100,000 worth of jewelry. Rose claimed he and Seymour were engaged. In turn, Seymour countersued Rose for assaulting her and denied they were ever engaged.

Shortly after her break up with Rose, Seymour began dating billionaire Peter Brant, who was married and the father of five children. Brant is a publisher, real estate developer and art collector. She gave birth to the couple's first son (her second), Peter Jr., in December 1993. Seymour and Brant married in July 1995 in Paris, France.
