Since then, we have moved from one hospital to another. We tried all kinds of pills, but every effort to get rid of the virus was futile. The bubbles continued to reappear after a few months. So, I was on the internet a few months ago, to look for other ways to save my only son. Only then did I come across a comment about the herbal treatment of Dr Imoloa and decided to give it a try. That article concerns an interesting question of how much influence should government have in controlling the behavior of citizens. It is becoming well known that secondhand-hand is dangerous to our health, and government imposition of smoke-free environments is one way of obtaining improvements in health. However, there are other ways of obtaining the improvements that reduce the influence of government in our lives.

As of October 2012, over 800 confirmed sightings o...

As of October 2012, over 800 confirmed sightings of exoplanets have been made. If you'd spend 5 minutes researching RBMK, you'd understand why it EXPLODED, and didn't "melt down." Keep in mind, Chernobyl's original purpose was to generate Plutonium for bombs, and generated electricity only as a guise.

You did state a fact that I will agree with: "The radiation from these rods has half-lives of many years, and the spent rods must be stored in a safe way." However, you forgot to mention that because they have a long halflife, the amount of radiation they give off is very low.

Before you write articles on nuclear power, please at least take the time to research the topics you are writing about.

Great Q, Allen! It does say that strong drinks, which are interpreted by church leaders to mean tea and coffee, are not for the belly. This was given by the Lord as a warning: "In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—"

That is, we have been warned that we shouldn't drink "hot drinks". The Lord didn't explain why we were being warned. Almost all of the science articles about tea and coffee that I've read relate to the stimulating effect of caffeine. Section 89 doesn't mention caffeine. Most LDS assume that coffee and tea shouldn't be drunk because they contain caffeine. Maybe that assumption is correct. Maybe it isn't.

The Lord, in giving the revelation contained in Section 89, didn't give a complete list of things that shouldn't be consumed. Your personal "what makes sense?&quot...

Steve,

Your personal "what makes sense?" is a good filter that applies to both hats.

A literal reading of the Bible leads to the belief that Adam lived approximately 6000 years ago and that there were no humans before him. That doesn't make sense to me in light of scientific evidence of humans being here for hundreds of thousands of years.

As I explain in my essay about evolution and the Fall of Adam, I believe Adam was the first person to make covenants with God but not the first person in mortality. This makes a lot more sense to me than the belief that Adam was the first person, period. The 6000 figure is OK with me. The scriptures say Adam was the first person but don't say first of what. Many LDS and other Christians say first to live in mortality. I say first to make covenants with God.

Of course, this is all speculation, and I keep it as such in my mind so I won't focus my energy on things that don't directly pertain to my salvation. Someday, we'll know the answers.

Hi Steve,

My daughter is insisting we do a marathon 14 weeks down the road and that would require a shift of my comfortable 16 week schedule. Anyway, I live in Dallas and am LDS, so I guess once I read your "about me" information it wast such a huge leap to end up here.
I m not a scientist, but a realist. My personal juggling of my "two hats" consists of faith and science as well, with my personal "what makes sense?" thrown in too.
I like reading your posts and blogs- and the responses. Why? Well, for one thing, I feel somehow smarter after reading. Here is another quote from the article.

In the journal Atherosclerosis, scientists found that daily moderate drinking -- the equivalent of two drinks per day, seven days a week -- decreased atherosclerosis in mice, while binge drinking -- the equivalent of seven drinks a day, two days a week -- increased development of the disease. Atherosclerosis, or the hardening and narrowing of arteries, is a serious condition that can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

The article didn't say what kind of drinks were used. If the drinks were wine, then the question of antioxidants comes into play since wine comes from grapes and grapes are a good source of antioxidants. I've read several articles about the effects of wine, in which the authors weren't concerned whether the positive effects were from the alcohol or from antioxidants. I'm keeping an open mind about this and am waiting for more test results to be published.

A similar situation exists with caffeine. Some tests have shown that coffee has certain positive effects on our bodies. Those tests were focused on the effects of caffeine as a stimulant, that is, stimulants have a positive effect when administered in certain ways. The tests used coffee as a way of giving caffeine to the persons. Other ways of giving caffeine could have been used. The Lord didn't say that caffeine is not for the body. He said "hot drinks", and he didn't say why those drinks are not for the body. So, keeping an open mind about health matters is good.
