Nothing says outrageous American performance quite like a Cobra, whether it be real or replica. This is nothing more primal, loud, and in your face with the possible exception of an all out race car. Most are not even meant to turn corners, just go brutally fast in a straight line.

And then came the CB/1 Cobra Replica. Powered by a twin turbo Ford 385 V8, it produces an astounding 650 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque. All that power is routed through a Porsche 930 5 speed transaxle and the car weights a mere 2600 pounds. That's a good enough power to weight ratio to get you a 2.85 second 0-60 run and a quarter mile time of 10.5 seconds at 135mph. And unlike most Cobras, this one will pull 1.15 g's on the skidpad.

Dodge Challenger tops in Consumer Reports owner satisfaction survey

Consumer Reports has surveyed 380,000 subscribers to rank satisfied new car owners and surprisingly the Toyota Prius is no longer the champion. 92 percent of Dodge Challenger owners said they would definitely buy another one if they had the chance to do it again.

This is huge for Chrysler, as they have long been known for nagging issues with their vehicles, as well as being routinely beaten down by Consumer Reports.

The Big 3 improved their standings in the rankings overall, as 9 percent of American models were at the top of the list. For all the details, head over to the Consumer Reports website.

Pitting a plain old Mustang GT against a Nissan GT-R isn't exactly fair. Neither, for that matter is having a Shelby GT500 against Godzilla. The problem here is that the GT-R has tons of technology to back up that horsepower and a lot less weight to move it with. Granted, that comes with a price premium.

But what if we pitted the ultimate Mustang, the Shelby Super Snake, against a GT-R? Motor Trend did exactly that and had video cameras document the whole thing. While on paper it may seem that it is the 412hp GT-R may be a tad outmatched by the 635hp snake, you'll have to check out the video to see who comes out on top.

Dodge Viper enters it's final year with tweaks

The Dodge Viper is entering it's final year of production, at least for the next couple of years. To celebrate it's leaving the model lineup temporarily, Dodge is rolling out new colors, more performance, and a few limited edition models.

The two new exterior colors are Toxic Orange Pearl Coat and Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat. A shorter fifth gear ratio (changing from .74 to .80) improves high speed acceleration, as the 0-200 mph run drops by 14 seconds. The track-bred ACR models get a new short-throw shifter, and aerodynamic tweaks to the rear wing lower drag while improving downforce (top speed bumps up to 184 mph on the ACR model).

Two special edition models of the Viper have been announced, the Dodge Viper ACR 1:33Edition and the Vooodoo-edition Viper ACR. The 1:33 aims to pay homage to the record breaking version of the car that lapped Laguna Seca. It sports a unique two-tone Black Clear Coat/Red Clear Coat exterior color.

The Voodoo Edition gets an all black exterior with a Graphite stripe with red outlines. Only ten of the special cars will be produced. Be sure and check out the press release below for all the details.

To celebrate the final production year of the current generation Dodge Viper SRT10, Dodge plans to deliver a vehicle lineup like no other since the introduction of the iconic American sports car in 1992.

At the heart of the 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 remains the venerable 8.4-liter (510 cu. in.) V-10 engine that produces 600 (450 kW) horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. (760 N•m) of torque. Benchmark performance numbers, including 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range and 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat, and a top speed of 202 mph, continue to prove how the serious, race-inspired, street-legal two-seater performs without apology.

Body style offerings remain unchanged with the availability of Roadster and Coupe models along with the ACR (American Club Racer) package. Approximately 500 vehicles will be built for the 2010 model year.

With the introduction of two new exterior colors–Toxic Orange Pearl Coat and Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat–Dodge Viper SRT10 is now available in 12 different colors – the most regularly available choices in one model year. And with six stripe options in the new wider configuration, five different interior color combinations, four different wheel choices and three available interior bezels; the 2010 Viper SRT10 will be available in more than 7,600 combinations–the most for any one model year–significantly adding to the exclusivity of each car like never before.

New across the Viper lineup is a shorter fifth gear ratio (changing from 0.74 to 0.80) for improved high-speed acceleration and higher straightaway speeds. Acceleration from 0-200 mph has improved by 14 seconds. This improvement is a direct result of the Chrysler Group LLC Street and Racing Technology team's experience at the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany where during the lap-record run in 2008, it was found that a revised gear ratio would have resulted in higher top gear acceleration and a quicker lap time.

The Viper SRT10 channels its power through a ZF Sachs twin-disc clutch that reduces rotating inertia by 18 percent, reduces clutch-pedal effort and improves engagement feel. Transferring power to the rear wheels is a heavy-duty six-speed manual transmission.

Stopping power is another carefully developed part of the Viper SRT10 equation, with 14-inch brake rotors gripped by Brembo 44/40 dual-opposing piston calipers in the front and Brembo 42/38 dual-opposing calipers in the rear. This system results in world-class braking performance of 60-0 mph in less than 100 feet.

Interior color options for 2010 include: standard black, two-tone black and red with red accent stitching, two-tone black and blue with blue accent stitching, two-tone black and medium slate grey with medium slate grey accent stitching and the two-tone black and natural tan with premium tan Nappa leather seats, tan center console, lower instrument panel and door panels introduced for the 2009 model year. On the Roadster model, the black and tan package includes a matching tan cloth convertible top.

Viper SRT10 ACR

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR receives a new short-throw shifter in 2010 for enhanced driver experience and better performance. The rear wing profile and end plates are redesigned to further optimize the vehicle aerodynamics and improve rear yaw downforce. These changes combined with the new fifth gear ratio result in an increased top speed of 4 mph (to 184 mph for the ACR model).

The enhanced four-wheel independent suspension features high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, KW suspension with two-way adjustable competition coil-over shock absorbers with remote reservoirs.

The aerodynamic package features a carbon fiber "fanged" splitter in front and adjustable carbon-fiber wing with seven-position stanchions that allow up to an amazing 1,000 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph. Lightweight wheels, two-piece slotted StopTech brake rotors and Michelin PS Cup tires round out the Dodge Viper ACR package.

New Special, Limited-edition Models

Numerous special, limited-edition models are planned for the 2010 model year, including the Dodge Viper ACR 1:33 Edition, which will pay tribute to the new production car lap record set on Nov. 24 at Laguna Seca raceway. The unique two-tone Black Clear Coat/Red Clear Coat exterior color scheme on this model is the opposite form of the original Viper ACR. Interior highlights include piano black console bezels with red gauge highlights complemented with red accent stitching in the seats. Only 33 cars will be produced as 1:33 Edition Viper ACR models.

The 2010 Vooodoo-edition Viper ACR will feature an all Black Clear Coat exterior with a Graphite Driver's Stripe outlined in red. Only 10 cars will be produced with the unique striping on both the exterior, as well as on the steering wheel.

Additional special edition models will be announced closer to their individual introductions. Pricing on the 2010 Dodge Viper lineup also will be announced at a later date.

Classic Recreations reveals specs of it's Shelby GT500CR Mustang

At SEMA Classic Recreations announced that it had reached a deal with Shelby to build a continuation version of the legendary Shelby Mustang GT500. Not much was know at that time regarding any sort of specifications of the car.

Thanks to the latest press release below, we have much more information on the GT500CR Mustang. Three models will be offered: the Intro, Performance, and Venom.

The Intro comes standard with a 427ci V8, 150hp nitrous kit, upgraded suspension and steering, Tremec 5 speed tranny, and Baer brakes.

The Performance model ups the ante with better seats, bigger wheels, and a coilover suspension.

The top of the line Venom sports an intercooled supercharger that nets the car 780hp, along with lots of other performance upgrades.

Custom coachbuilder Classic Recreations has released preliminary technical details and package specifications for the G.T.500CR, a 1967 Shelby continuation vehicle that was announced opening day of the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas. All three G.T.500CR models will feature a hand-built 427 cubic inch (7.0L) engine, model specific bodywork, custom paint and hand-stitched upholstery. Every car will have an official Shelby serial number, badges and will be included in the official Shelby Worldwide Registry.

The G.T.500CR will be offered in three models. The "Intro" model is powered by a 545hp fuel injected 427, built in-house at Classic Recreations using top-shelf performance parts and Mass Flo digital fuel injection. A 150hp NOS nitrous oxide system provides extra power when needed. Upgraded suspension and power rack and pinion steering modernize the car's handling, and a Tremec five speed manual transmission sends the power to ZR rated tires on 17x8" Shelby 427 wheels over front and rear cross drilled Shelby/Baer brakes. Inside, the driver will find a custom stereo, climate control and Carroll Shelby Signature seats, gauges, console, and floormats. The exterior is available in five different color schemes and features authentic Shelby Performance parts, such as lights, emblems and a real Shelby Le Mans racing gas cap.

The "Performance" model has all the features of the "Intro", including the 150HP Nitrous system, rack and pinion steering and 160mph speedometer, plus Carroll Shelby Scat Rally series 1000 seats, larger 17x9.5 rear wheels and a Total Control front and rear coilover suspension system for modern sports car handling.

The "Venom" maintains the authentic Shelby look of the "Intro" and "Performance" models, but boosts horsepower to 780hp with an F1-R Intercooled ProCharger supercharged engine. The interior is upgraded with a 200mph speedometer and racing-style bucket seats. The "Venom" also boasts suspension and chassis upgrades as well as 17x11" rear wheels and wider ultra high performance Goodyear tires. Model line specifications and details are subject to change.

2010 brought a full on refresh of the Ford Mustang, but 2011 brings with it another redesign. It has been many years since the Mustang had any direct competitors, but with the Camaro and Challenger breathing down it's neck it is vital to keep up with the proverbial joneses.

The first update brought us this, the V6 powered 2011 Mustang. Sporting a much improved 3.7L aluminum blocked, direct injected mill, the 6 banger puts out a very respectable Camaro beating 305hp. A six speed automatic transmission delivers a reported 30mpg.

The video above depicts a red V6 'stang making a stroll down a side road and also an open hood, high revving moment. The car sounds good and promises to be quite fun to drive, especially for those who want to get some semblence of gas mileage out of their pony car.

The 1969 Chevy Camaro is perhaps the most overdone and the most popular muscle car of all time. Every car show, every car magazine has featured more than it's fair share of '69 Camaros. As a matter of fact, there are a couple of companies out there that will supply you with everything you need to build a "new" one.

The 1969's popularity is obviously a big reason why Chevrolet used the car as it's inspiration for the 2010 Camaro. But what would happen if someone had the opposite idea, and wanted to model a '69 after the 2010?

The answer is this particular car, the 1969 Danz Camaro SS concept. While we have mixed feelings on this one, it is an interesting piece and the anser to an interesting question that maybe nobody asked.

GM confirms Chevy Camaro Convertible for Oshawa production

Below you will find a normal looking press release for the 2011 Buick Regal. GM is announcing that it will produce the new Regal in the beginning of 2011 at it's assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario.

So what, you ask, does this have to do with the Camaro? Well, Oshawa is the same assembly line that builds the new Camaro. That, and GM subtly slipped in something about the upcoming Camaro convertible being produced there as well.

GM has been leading us back and forth on the issue of whether or not it would actually go through and produce a convertible version of it's pony car. This discreet little press release all but confirms it.

Ford releases info on 2011 V6 Mustang, makes 305hp and gets 30mpg!

There have been rumblings for some time now that the resurrected Camaro and it's 300hp V6 would be a target for Ford's slightly revised 2011 Mustang. After all, we are experiencing a rebirth of the muscle car wars and the Mustang's old 4.0 V6 and it's 210hp just weren't cutting it.

Along comes the new and improved 2011 V6 Mustang. Ford released details on it's new entry level pony car today, and they are impressive. The Mustang's new six shooter is a 3.7 liter, all aluminum, dual overhead cam piece that makes an impressive 305hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.

Not only does the new 'stang have a new motor, but it also has a pair of fresh transmissions, a new performance package for the V6, and a few minor changes on the outside and inside. When paired with the new six speed automatic, the V6 is said to get 30mpg on the highway.

Both the power and gas mileage ratings, by the way, are one better than the V6 Camaro. Coincedence? We think not.

Dearborn, Mich., Nov. 30, 2009 – The 2011 Ford Mustang puts 305 high-performance horses in the hands of V-6 coupe buyers with a new all-aluminum dual-overhead cam (DOHC) engine that delivers a projected 30 mpg on the highway with a six-speed automatic transmission and fun for drivers on nearly every road.

For 2011, Mustang's new 3.7-liter Duratec 24-valve V-6 uses advanced engineering to deliver its power and economy: Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds. Aluminum construction means light weight. It's an engine designed to crank out torque down low, rev to 7,000 rpm and deliver the mechanical music sports coupe lovers crave everywhere in between.

"Mustang is completely transformed with this new engine," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. "Everything people love about the car is still there and now under the hood is a V-6 engine that uses premium technology to deliver the power, the feel, the fuel efficiency, even the sound of the best sports coupes in the world."

New 3.7-liter V-6 engine
With Ti-VCT operating its four valves per cylinder, the new Mustang V-6 powerplant sends significantly more horsepower and torque (305 hp and 280 ft.-lb.) to the rear wheels than its predecessor – despite its smaller displacement. The behind-the-wheel feel is unlike any Mustang ever produced.

"This new V-6 engine really speaks to what Mustang is all about," said Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of global powertrain engineering. "It produces power everywhere in the rev range and loves to be pushed hard. The Duratec 3.7-liter builds on our promise to use advanced technology to deliver both power and fuel economy."

The high output is due largely to Ti-VCT which allows variable control of valve operation across the rev range. The variable cams operate on a Direct Acting Mechanical Bucket (DAMB) valvetrain using polished buckets and roller finger followers to reduce friction. The end result is as much as a 3 percent improvement in fuel economy and a 10 percent improvement in power output versus traditional engines without these advanced features.

Ti-VCT is complemented by special-tuned composite upper and lower intake manifolds for efficient air delivery and lighter weight. Ignition power is delivered by a high-energy coil-on-plug design, while piston-cooling jets and a lightweight die-cast aluminum cylinder block improve the durability and efficiency of the 3.7-liter V-6 design.

Performance was the mantra for every aspect of engine design. A cold air induction system and dual exhaust give the 3.7 its free-breathing style with a 7,000 rpm redline and near-instantaneous response to throttle inputs.

A die-cast aluminum deep-sump oil pan provides 10,000-mile oil change intervals, saving drivers money on maintenance and resulting in less waste in oil disposal.

Engineers also worked to ensure aggressive, high-performance sounds come from the new engine, from intake to exhaust. Not only does the retuned air intake system minimize losses, it also provides the driver with a satisfying intake rush on hard acceleration. The all-new dual exhaust system is mellow at idle but opens up with a howl at full-tilt, letting Mustang drivers know they're behind the wheel of a world-class sports coupe.

"This car marks a new type of Mustang," said David Pericak, Mustang chief nameplate engineer. "We're using a high-performance quad-cam V-6 with all the bells and whistles in a car that's become legendary for its handling and roadholding; it's really going to get a lot of new sports coupe fans excited about Mustang, some for the first time ever."

Powertrain improvements
Drivers can get the most out of the new V-6 engine's output using either an all-new six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. Both come with the flexibility and fuel economy benefits of six forward ratios regardless of whether buyers want to shift for themselves or not.

Drivers who prefer a manual gearbox will enjoy the short throws and direct feel of the shifter along with the relaxed cruising permitted by the extra top gear ratio. Customers choosing the automatic will be pleasantly surprised to find the advanced six-speed 6R60 transmission does not sacrifice fuel economy – or performance – for convenience, delivering an expected 30 mpg highway with crisp, quick shifts that maximize torque and horsepower.

The automatic transmission also features a grade-assist or "hill mode" to improve drivability on hilly terrain. This technical innovation uses vehicle input – acceleration, pedal position, vehicle speed and brake status – to automatically determine the correct gear ratio while on an incline or decline. Hill mode eliminates sixth gear, extends lower gear operation on uphill climbs, and provides additional grade or engine braking for coast downs.

The standard 2.73 rear axle provides an ideal blend of cruising fuel economy and acceleration, aided by the wide ratio spread permitted through the use of six forward speeds in the gearboxes. Performance enthusiasts can select an available 3.31 rear axle ratio for better off-the-line launch characteristics.

Fuel economy improvements
Extra horsepower and refined engine operation will be the most noticeable features to new 2011 Mustang 3.7-liter V-6 buyers while projected class-leading fuel economy, also a standard feature, offers an additional bonus. The numbers speak for themselves:
• 19 mpg city/30 highway with six-speed automatic transmission, up from 16 mpg city/ 24 highway on the 2010 model with automatic – a 25 percent improvement over 2010
• 18 mpg city/29 highway with six-speed manual transmission, up from 18 mpg city/26 highway on the 2010 model with manual

Refinements throughout Mustang's body, powertrain and chassis design contribute to the improved fuel economy numbers. Examples include:
• The new Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system which eliminates the drag of an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump
• Six-speed transmissions that allow lower cruising revs without sacrificing off-the-line performance
• Aerodynamic improvements such as a new front fascia, tire spats on the rear wheels, modified underbody shields, a taller air dam and an added rear decklid seal
Handling and driving dynamics
With so much additional horsepower standard, the 2011 Mustang received enhancements to its chassis to maintain the outstanding balance and driving behavior Mustang owners expect. Damper tuning and spring rates were revised to provide a smooth highway ride while a new rear lower control arm and stiffened stabilizer bar bushings improve stiffness and handling for better cornering response.

While Mustang's aerodynamic improvements were designed mainly to improve fuel economy, engineers also adjusted the vehicle's front/rear lift balance. The result is a car that tracks more securely and feels more "planted" to the road surface at higher speeds, helping to keep the tires in better contact with the pavement.

The addition of EPAS marks a new era in driving dynamics for Mustang owners. Steering effort at parking lot speeds is reduced, while high-speed and highway feel is improved for more precise steering and handling. Because the belt-driven power steering pump is eliminated, EPAS provides a quieter vehicle with fewer components drawing engine power.

Customer benefits of Ti-VCT include extremely precise variable control of "valve overlap," or the window of time in which both the intake and exhaust valves in the engine are open simultaneously.

"This overlap control via Ti-VCT helps us eliminate compromises in the induction and exhaust systems," said Jim Mazuchowski, Ford manager of V-6 powertrain operations. "Drivers are going to notice improved low-speed torque and increased fuel economy and peak horsepower. Plus, there are benefits they won't notice, too, such as reduced emissions overall, especially at part-throttle."

The flexibility allowed by Ti-VCT means Mustang V-6 customers will experience:
• Better off-the-line launch feel, with plenty of the low-end "grunt" for which Mustang is famous. Ti-VCT can deliver up to a 5 percent improvement in low-end torque and a 7 percent improvement in peak power versus non-Ti-VCT-equipped engines.
• Improved fuel economy at all engine speeds resulting in projected 19 mpg city/30 highway with six-speed automatic transmission; 18 mpg city/29 highway with six-speed manual transmission. Ti-VCT alone can account for up to a 4.5 percent fuel economy improvement over non-VCT-equipped engines.
• Lower emissions, with better control of NOx and HC throughout the range of engine operating speeds, reducing atmospheric pollution.

How the technology works
As a DOHC design, the 3.7-liter V-6 uses two camshafts per cylinder bank – one to open the intake valves and one to open the exhaust valves. Traditionally, camshafts only have been able to open the valves at a fixed point defined during engine design and manufacturing. But with modern variable cam timing systems, the camshafts can be rotated slightly relative to their initial position, allowing the cam timing to be "advanced" or "retarded."

Ti-VCT takes this technology and applies it to both the intake and exhaust camshafts of its DOHC design, using electronic solenoid valves to direct high-pressure oil to control vanes in each of the camshaft sprocket housings. By using one valve per camshaft, controlled by the Electronic Control Module (ECM), each intake and exhaust cam can be advanced or retarded independently of the other as engine operating conditions change, providing an exceptional degree of valve timing control.

Geiger Ford GT, 790hp and loud paint

Geiger is a German tuner that has a fascination with American muscle cars. They also seemingly have a fascination with extremely bright paint hues and body modifications.

This particular Ford GT possesses those traits, as you can certainly bet that it's future owners will not pass down any road unnoticed.

Their latest version of the GT also has impressive power to back up all of that flaunting, with it's 5.4L V8 pumping out 790hp and 637 lb-ft of torque. Most of the power boost can be credited to the motor's huge 4.0L supercharger that replaces the stock 2.3L.

Red is supposed to be the standard colour of warning. US car specialists GeigerCars.de from Munich have turned this established wisdom on its head, presenting their hottest shot with eye-catching bright green paintwork. The Ford GT "Geiger HP 790" is the third star after the Dodge Challenger SRT-8 (569 HP) and the Corvette Z06 Bi-Turbo (890 HP).

Karl Geiger's latest creation lives up to its name: the super sports car's 5.4 litre V8 engine can reach a terrific 790 horsepower, an impressive 240 HP more than its series equivalent. The source of this explosion of power? Above all the replacement of the series-produced 2.3 litre with a more powerful 4.0 litre compressor which blasts the combustion chamber at over 1.25 bars. Larger throttle valves and a sports filter were also installed to supply the eight cylinders with even more fresh air. The engine and gear cooling systems had of course also to be adjusted to the new design as well as engine electrics.

Geiger HP 790 shoots to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds, breaks the 200km/h mark 6 seconds later and reaches 300 kilometres an hour in only 22.8 seconds - all this to bloodcurdling roars from the two 110-millimetre sports exhaust tail pipes - an in house development. Thrust and air resistance don't balance until you hit 360km/h. The supercharged V8 reaches maximum power at 6320 rpm and its maximum torque - 863 Newton metres - at just 4600 revolutions.

No question that a ride like this is not for the beginner, but experienced drivers will find the specially developed coilover suspension a great asset. Its hydraulic shock absorbers have adjustable pressure and rebound damping which can be set to suit drivers' needs and preferences - and of course the terrain.

Low and wide: the classic Ford sports car proportions are taken even further with 60-millimetere lowering. The wheel housing can't high superb matt black alloy wheels outlined in the car colour, mounted in 9x20 inches at the front and an impressive 11x21 at the rear. 245/35R20 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres on the front axle ensure precise transmission of wheel commands whilst the drive axle 325/30R21 tyres constantly fight for grip and traction - if only so they don't disappear in a cloud of blue smoke.

Loma Performance Corvette C6 Blackforce One

Loma Performance believes that it's Blackforce One Corvette is "clearly reminiscent" of the President's famous air ride. Regardless of whether you believe that or not, this 'vette is pretty unique.

Since even factory Corvettes have big power (see: ZR1), you know that aftermarket tuners have to go big. And go big Loma did, as this particular car sports twin turbos. All that boost bring power up to 783hp and 666 lb-ft of torque.

The sprint to 62mph takes a mere 3.4 seconds, and top speed is 205mph. The suspension, brakes, and remainder of the drivetrain is upgraded to handle all that power.

The name of this vehicle is a show in itself: C6.BlackforceOne. It is clearly reminiscent of the legendary Boeing Air Force One of the United States president - doubtless no accident by tuner LOMA-Performance. Yet when the C6.BlackforceOne available in Stealth matt black, Eurofighter matt grey and White Storm matt white (other colours on request) comes thundering round the corner, it is soon clear that it more than deserves its name - and has far more to offer than just an exciting label...

No less than two metres from outside wheel to outside wheel, the C6.BlackforceOne is based on the "normal" Corvette (original width: 179cm) and not on a Z06 or ZR1 model. This means around ten centimetres more on each side and creates a real masculine feel. LOMA-Performance makes no effort to disguise the source of the additional width - indeed clearly and stylishly displays the carbon fibre wheel arch extensions and carbon fibre side skirts available with or without visible screws: the ultimate racing look. Video: 2010 Dodge Viper ACR sets track record at Laguna Seca

The Dodge Viper was never what many would consider a track car, at least until the ACR showed up. Built as a lighter alternative to a regular SRT10 with ten times the downforce (thanks to a huge wing), the ACR has been setting records ever since.

The 2010 ACR is even more serious than the 2009. With a faster top speed of 202 mph, revised gear ratios that take it to that speed 14 seconds quicker than it's predecessor.

The latest record to fall was the single lap record at Laguna Seca when this particular ACR ran it in with a time of 1:33.944, beating the previous record by more than a second. You can see two videos below, one an in car video to capture all the action.

Fesler-Moss shows off it's duo of tuned Camaros

A new partnership between Chris Fesler's custom car shop and Jon Moss, the former director of General Motors' specialty vehicles division was formed this past summer. Back then, we had nothing but renderings to show you. Now Fesler-Moss has released a bevy of details surrounding it's lineup of tuned Camaros.

The two models they will be offering are the Competition Package and the Limited Edition Package. The Competition package runs $50,000 over the cost of the donor car and includes carbon fiber interior and exterior pieces along with a supercharger and upgraded brakes.

Holden based 2010 RWD Chevy SS coming to US?

We keep hearing from several sources that there will indeed be a big rear wheel drive (or right wheel drive as we like to call it) Chevy sedan coming, based on the Australian Holden. Specifically, a high-performance version of General Motors' Zeta platform that underpins the Pontiac G8 will live on as a Chevy SS model, either badged as a Caprice or an Impala. After all, Bob Lutz himself said that the Pontiac G8 platform was "Kinda too good to waste."

The following was spotted on a Pontiac G8 forum:

"My dealer had sent off pictures to GM of the cable portion of the front seats belts rubbing against the plastic on the side of the front seats. In an email sent back to the dealer, GM says that they have no plans to solve what has already been built but going forward a correction is planned. The email continues: ...a fix is planned for MY11.5 Chevy Police Program and MY12 Chevy SS. The fix will involve a protective sleeve that covers the buckle and section of the buckle stem that rubs on the plastic trim."

Rossignolo buys De Tomaso, new models in 2011

It appears that the legendary De Tomaso brand is rising from the dead once again. A wealthy Italian industrialist named Gian Mario Rossingnolo has already purchased a Pininfarina factory in which to build the new De Tomaso.

The real question is, what are they going to build? And the answer is, 8,000 aluminum bodied cars per year. Rossingnolo is planning on building a coupe, luxury sedan, and SUV. They are planning on making an appearance with new models at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011. Now if can only see a supercharged Ford V8 powering the rear wheels of one...

LeMans Camaro rendering

Ever since the muscle car movement was revitalized with the retro style Mustang making it's debut, only to be joined by the Camaro and Challenger, speculation runs wild concerning what types of racing counterparts we will see in the future.

A man by the name of Bo Zolland at Viztech has rendered what he thinks a LeMans Camaro would look like, and we must say that the car lends itself nicely to this look.

While this is obviously no guarantee that such a car would ever be produced, it's nice to think about what could be.

The VR Camaro: 80% Chevy, 20% Lamborghini?

The VR Camaro you see here is very different from your run of the mill tuner Camaro. You see, it takes it's styling inspiration from the Lamborghini Reventon. While that may sound strange and perhaps revolting, the finished product is anything but.

The VR is available in two color schemes, either white and gold or black and gold. Once you make it past the in-your-face front end styling, the rest of the car is rather subtle. The decklid has a retro looking ducktail spoiler. All body mods are crafted out of carbon fiber.

22 inch wheels are attached to a new coil over suspension, and the brakes carry 12 piston front calipers and 8 piston on the rear. The engine is of course supercharged with a promised 600 horsepower.

The VR Camaro will be available in the first quarter of 2010.

2010 Dodge Challenger R/T now available in Detonator Yellow

The Dodge Challenger is a nice throwback to simpler times, when horsepower was king and everybody wanted to look good and win the stoplight drags at the same time. While the Challenger is not going to see any major updates (it just came out a model year ago, after all) it will be seeing some new colors.

After seeing the Jay Leno Camaro at SEMA, one has to wonder if we could potentially see the car in production some day. After all, with Ford rolling out it's line of EcoBoost engines, wouldn't GM want to follow suit with it's own fuel friendly, performance oriented pony car?

When InsideLine asked Bob Lutz about it he simply responded "perhaps." Take it how you will, but he didn't say no. In addition to this all telling comment, he also confirmed that there will be a production version of the Camaro Synergy.

Superformance to produce 1963 Corvette Grand Sport replica

Superformance is a company that made it's name making top of the line Cobra and GT 40replicas out of SoCal. The Corvette Grand Sport is arguably Chevrolet's most iconic race car. In it's heyday, the Grand Sport dominated the Cobra on the race track but was axed by GM before it could make any sort of significant mark in racing.

ICONIC CORVETTE R REBORN

Glories of yesteryear were conceived when General Motors licensed a Californian specialist sports car partnership in early 2009 to resume production of the iconic 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, arguably GM's most prestigious track racer ever.

Duntov/Superformance LLC lost no time in turning opportunity into reality, and Duntov immediately began production of the race version of the Grand Sport, which has already raced and won a number of events this year.

Now the street version of this popular 1960's muscle car will follow with the series production of a Turn Key Minus chassis by Superformance. Here's a rumor that actually makes a lot of sense - an EcoBoost V8 powered Mustang. We've already got 4 and 6 cylinder EcoBoost engines in the works, why now an 8 cylinder?

And the rumor is that the boosted V8 would be under the hood of a Mustang, a Shelby Mustang at that. In other works, a direct injected, twin turbo, V8 powered Mustang. Let the enthusiasts and aftermarkets of the world commence drooling now.

While there is nothing wrong with the current GT500's supercharged 5.4L, it does get pretty bad gas mileage. And with the ever looming threat of a ZR1 Camaro on the horizon, it makes sense that Ford would be ready to win the horsepower war at the top.

First built Petty's Garage Challenger to be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson

Hitting the auction blocks at Barrett-Jackson next year will be this Challenger built by Petty's Garage. The Garage is a new company that plans to work on "museum-quality" restorations of vintage race cars, custom cars and high performance street machines. This 2009 Challenger was built to kick off the business with a bang.

Painted in the familiar Petty Blue, this Challenger sports a 585-hp Hemi 426, Pedders suspension upgrades, Brembo Gran Turismo brakes, a new center exit Corsa exhaust system, and a Petty's Garage body kit consisting of custom front fascia, rear bumper cover, custom rocker panels and a rear spoiler.

NASCAR Facility Sending First Car to Barrett-Jackson Auction for Charity

Level Cross, N.C. (November 10, 2009) - The change at 311 Branson Mill Road in Level Cross, N.C., a facility that has produced more race winners than any other shop in the history of NASCAR, is amazing. The employees of a newly-formed Petty's Garage are transplanting that legacy of success into a new endeavor producing performance automobiles there. The first car from the historic garage will be a custom 2009 Dodge Challenger to be sold for charity at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in January 2010.

"For 61 years, Petty Enterprises built, engineered and raced some of the most-historic cars in all of NASCAR right from this shop," said 'The King' Richard Petty. "You're talking about Plymouth Belvederes, Superbirds, Road Runners, Torino's and Dodge Chargers. When racecars went from being a purely production car to a car built from the ground up, or modified, solely for racing, many of them came out of Level Cross. We are proud of what we were able to accomplish here and it was important for us to keep this place going."

Over the years, Petty Enterprises garnered 268 wins in what is now the Sprint Cup Series, ten championships and nine Daytona 500 wins from this facility. Now, Petty's Garage will focus on the manufacturing of performance vehicles, including the "museum-quality" restoration of vintage race vehicles, custom cars and high performance street vehicles. The first complete car project is the build of a Dodge Challenger to be sold at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in January of 2010 by the Petty Family Foundation (PFF). The proceeds of the sale will benefit the PFF and the charities it supports.

The 2009 Dodge Challenger was completely disassembled and placed on a rotisserie so it could be painted the trademark Petty Blue by BASF R ̶ M. Reassembly included a Late Model 426 Hemi by Arrington Engines with 585 hp, Pedders suspension upgrades, Brembo Gran Turismo brakes, a new Corsa Exhaust system with a Petty's Garage custom center exhaust exit and refinished all of the suspension to Petty Parts Blue by BASF R ̶ M. Body Modifications consisted of a Petty's Garage custom front fascia and rear bumper cover, Petty's Garage custom rocker panels, rear spoiler and Petty's Garage branded interior seats and door panels.

"This Challenger is special to me because I wanted to build something that I would drive on a daily basis," stated Petty. "I wanted the car to have a race car look, but be functional on the street and I think the guys really captured that. But most importantly it provides our foundation with the platform to help our Veterans, children with life threatening illness and our neighbors in need. Classic Recreations building Shelby GT500CR

Carroll Shelby himself has commissioned Classic Recreations to relaunch a continuation version of one of the most famous muscle cars of all time, the 1967-68 Shelby GT500 Mustang. The very shop that is behind the Eleanor, one of the more famous modern muscle cars of our time.

Not many details are know at this time. Obviously power will be incredible, and you can expect the usual suspension and interior/exterior upgrades to bring the GT500CR into the modern era. Each car will have an official Shelby serial number, badges and will be included in the official Shelby Worldwide Registry.

Hendrick Motorsports 25th Anniversary Camaro, built by Callaway

The 2010 Camaro SS you see here is not just another run of the mill SEMA Camaro. It has been built to celebrate Hendrick Motorsport's 25th anniversary by Callaway. Production is limited to 25 units at a price tag of $76,181.

What exactly does that kind of money get you? The front splitter, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, rocker panels, and hood inserts are all made from carbon fiber, for starters. The exterior gets a see through ZR1 style hood that shows off the Eaton TVS supercharger underneath. In addition to the blower, the Camaro sports an upgraded exhaust system, short-throw shifter, and Eibach suspension components.

Interested buyers can purchase one from Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet in San Diego, CA or one the three Hendrick Chevrolet dealerships.

Dodge to end Viper production in July 2010, new car in 2012?

At a recent Chrysler business plan meeting, CEO of the Dodge car brand Ralph Gilles dropped some big news. After going back and forth on what to do with the Viper brand, Chrysler has decided to end production of the car in July 2010. 500 final cars will be built, that according to Gilles, will be the most special Vipers built to date. The explanation given was that Chyrsler wants to preserve the value of current Vipers by not continuing the current generation indefinitely.

It's not time to mourn the loss of the American supercar just yet, however, as Gilles also announced that an all new car is in development with a target release date of 2012. And this new Viper will be getting a little input from Chrysler's Italian colleagues (see: Fiat, Ferrari). All we can hope is that they retain the Viper's distinct American personality.
