Como todos devem saber, sou professor de inglês há uns nove anos mas sempre me surpreendo com alunos. Ontem, ao dar uma aula, uma aluna que tem dois empregos e segundo ela, quase não tem tempo para estudar, "tomou as dores" da turma e disse que "ninguém está entendo nada da sua aula". Essa construção é muito interessante pois não nomeia alguém especificamente. De qualquer forma, tentei arrazoar com ela, que não parava de falar (nervosamente), visto que a prova seria na próxima semana e os alunos têm a mania de achar que na última aula antes da prova os professores tem que providenciar aquela revisão igualzinha com o que vai cair na prova? Eu particularmente acho que estudar é algo mais abrangente do que isso. Inclusive, muitos alunos não somente deixam para estudar nas vésperas das provas como ainda estudam até dentro da sala de aula (ao invés de copiar a matéria que você está lançando no quadro)!

Não acredito em um educador que queira ensinar algo aos seus pupilos sem que ele mesmo também percorra o mesmo caminho que ele tenta fazê-los trilhar, ou seja esforçar-se em estudar. Eu mesmo já estou cadastrado na plataforma Khan Academy (a Fundação Leman tem uma parceria com eles aqui no Brasil) e procuro pelo menos uma vez por dia, fazer alguns exercícios de gramática inglesa. Só para ilustrar, hoje eu tinha um exercício que eu já havia feito há algum tempo mas tinha conseguido acertar apenas 86% das perguntas. Hoje resolvi refazer o mesmo teste e pasmem, fiz um escore menor do que há havia feito anteriormente (76%). Tentei de novo e fui ao fundo do poço (56%). Persistir e depois de quase 60 minutos refazendo as 11 peguntas (que se alteram cada vez que você as responde) finalmente consegui atingir os 100%!

Que lições podemos tirar desse relato? Em primeiro lugar, a declaração que mais ouço de meus alunos: "Eu não tenho tempo para estudar." Se você não tem tempo para estudar (10 minutos que seja por dia) realmente há pouco ou quase nada que o melhor instrutor do mundo possa fazer por você...

Em segundo lugar, para podermos incentivar nossos alunos aos estudos, nós mesmo temos que ser estudantes perssistentes e não nos acomodarmos pois "termos tarefas a fazer" (eu mesmo, no momento que escrevo esse artigo, tenho vários diários (08) para preencher além de provas que meus alunos fizeram essa semana com prazo para serem entregues a partir da semana que vem, com turmas com pelo menos 50 alunos!).

Concluo, que a aluna que disse que "ninguém está entendendo nada", realmente não tenha tempo para estudar e já anteveja um resultado pífio na prova da semana que vem mas expressando isso uma semana antes (mesmo com um feriadão no meio) ainda virá até mim e dirá: "Eu não falei que ninguém estava entendendo nada da sua aula professor?".

PS: Eu gostaria que os colegas docentes que leram e entenderam o texto acima se manifestassem.

Prova de Fogo.

Não isso não é o nome de um filme gospel de 2008.

Se você ler na Bíblia, 1Reis 18:32-38 poderá ter um "background" do que estou me referindo.

Mas e para você? O que é uma prova de fogo?

No sábado passado eu passei por um episódio que considero uma prova de fogo. Para quem não sabe eu sou professor de inglês e tinha que aplicar uma prova para meus alunos. Até aí tudo bem. Ocorre que no dia em que eu deveria aplicar a prova, fui acordado ao som de tiros aqui onde moro. Fiquei perplexo. Como poderia sair frente a tantos tiros?

Por volta das 8:15hs, meu vizinho chegou do trabalho (ele trabalha à noite). Daí pensei, se ele conseguiu chegar, eu tenho que sair. E lá fui eu, com a cara e a coragem. Logo que cheguei ao portão do prédio onde moro, havia dois moradores querendo sair mas sem coragem de ir até a rua por causa dos tiros. Eu ainda fiquei com eles por alguns minutos mas depois decidi abrir o portão e ganhar a rua. Não foi nada demais, visto que me deparei com outros transeuntes (poucos) que também se aventuravam como eu. Ao passar pela padaria do bairro, encontrei várias pessoas "presas" aguardando o tiroteio cessar para conseguirem chegar em casa.

Bem, essa é a realidade do Rio de Janeiro.
