Ah..what a thing is beauty? What on earth can you say regarding a concept such as beauty, I ask you? Many, many things, to be honest. Go figure, it has of course been the dominating idea central to loads of works of art, philosophical works, books of learning and recreation, love songs, serious operas, musicals and more besides. However, it is possible that you may have also heard the well worn phrase ‘beauty is skin deep.’

Some people say they thrive on it, stress that is. They claim it impels them to perform better and that they get a genuine boost from being under strain, pressurised to the max. Not me, dear readers. I perform better when I am not being rushed and simply are allowed to deliver results in a way that suits my style of working. And then there are times when you just can't avoid stress. Such as when things get Touch Financial I find this scenario usually involves other people making things unnecessarily difficult. I long for the days when I was able to find reflection and down time in good measure.

When I was a much younger man, ahum, some would call me middle aged these days, I used to have what is so aptly called twenty twenty vision. I would always enjoy doing an eye test at an optician’s or I remember a particularly rewarding vision test while drafted in to the army for my national service. The eye doctor was a tad amazed at my exceptionally clear vision. Hey, I have very bad teeth, give me a break. I have to have something, now don’t you agree? Surely, you can see where I am coming from.

Even tiny writing, some way off in the distance or in the background would not really phase me. I saw that it was good, very good. Alas, these days my eyes are not quite what they used to be, I’m afraid to say. And, lo and behold, I too now am the hesitantly proud owner of a pair of reading glasses. Oh well, what can you do? My wife is considering getting contact lenses and I urged her to find out a bit more about that.

After all, as is the case with so many other endeavours, eye glasses and contact lenses have known to be improved vastly in recent years. Beauty, my dear friends, is in the eye of the beholder. Now, you have all heard that one before, I wager? And, to be honest, I believe that old chestnut to contain a kernel or two of truth. What one person considers the pinnacle of good taste and refinement to others may appear as mere dross. That is the way of the world and I do not think this will ever change to any great extent. People are very different and that diversity of taste, predilection and interest is something I like and value.

A measure of individuality goes an awful long way in my book, I admit freely. For instance, back in the eighties, yes the dark ages I hear you groan, I was the proud owner of a pair of stylish sun glasses that I simply adored. I assumed they made me appear suave and a bit, dare I say, cool. Yes, dear blog afficionados, such is the folly of youth.

But these days I have a need for proper reading glasses, prescription glasses that help me on a daily basis in a more important way. Life is a tricky thing at times, I think we can all agree on that to some extent anyway. You could well be the most careful person in the whole wide world and then, all of a sudden, some fateful instance of truly bad luck may befall you, resulting in some loss or pain or other type of tragedy. My mother is a lovely lady. Of course, that is more or less what any one would say about his or her mother, I realise that full well, have no fear. But what I mean is that just like many other members of her generation she has this high regard for doctors and people employed in the medical profession. I suppose this could well be a generational predilection now I come to think of it.

But, fair is fair, it takes a lot become a doctor, whether it is the passing of a gp exam with flying colours or any other aspect of the medical training, it must be daunting to tackle such a steep learning curve. At the moment I am studying proofreading. It's a distance learning course and, I have to say, it's not that easy. But then that should come as no surprise. I think I also slightly misunderstood the concept. I thought for a while that it was all about spotting grammatical and spelling errors. And of course it is but I am now finding out that the real craft of proofreading involves spotting errors or anomalies between two texts, two documents if you like. That puts a rather more mundane complexion on things. But I'll hang in there and keep plodding away.

After all, life is a learning-curve..

As I sit here after listening to Noam Chomsky orate about his high-minded principles -he's in Sydney collecting his 'Sydney Peace Prize'- it strikes me how odd the life of a right-on intellectual must be. One moment you're right behind Pol Pot and the killing machine that was his Khmer Rouge regime, the next you're espousing how 'noble and honourable' the Occupy Wall Street movement is. Topsy turvy things those flexible morals..

Today, we said goodbye to our lovely cat Tessa. She was sixteen years old and was in poor health. The kind thing was, ultimately, to say goodbye to her, hard as that was. My wife held her in her lap while Max, the lovely and gently Vet, administered the terminal injection.

It was so sad but she had had a wonderful life and had been loved so much by us. She was truly a great friend, always happy to see us, always sociable and affectionate.

Sleep soft, sweet Tessa. We shall miss you very much.

Yes, I can hear you all think. Your outrageous silence speaks volumes, me hearties. I will bet that you are wondering what a bloke is doing writing an article about hair styles and or fashion accessories. I do not blame you at all. No, sir. For a bloke who was only just watching a rugby world cup match, yes we won, it may seem a tad odd for to address just such a topic. I do understand your reservations, dear readers, but there you have it. What would I know about clip on hair extensions to be fair, I ask you.

Well, it is true all right, not that much. But, as a man who is about to be married in less than a fortnight, I understand just how important the right kind of hair style can be for a lady of the opposite sex, and no mistake. Whether you are talking about clip on hair extensions' or black hair extensions' or streaks or putting one's hair up or letting it grow, it is vital to get it right.

And I love that about women. I love the fact that a nice girl will always want to present herself in a nice and appealing way. It is one of the joys of life, I am convinced of that, to tell you the truth.

In a couple of weeks I am getting married to the most wonderful woman in the world and in doing so I will be the happiest man alive, without a shadow of a doubt. There was so much to do in preparation for this momentous event, let me tell you. We had to arrange the Church, reception, cars and a million other things besides.

For our Best Man and Groomsman we decided to present them with some 'cufflinks' as a token of our gratitude. In the end, we chose some really nice ones although the service in the store we I purchased them was less than agreeable, to day the least.

I suppose I should have opted for cuffcrazy.com to buy some 'cufflinks'. Live and learn, dear readers, live and learn. You only live once and although some people get married more than once, you do want it to be as perfect as possible, to an extent. Getting your bridal party some excellent gifts is just part of it but it's important none the less.

Buying some 'cufflinks for men' or in this case my groomsmen was a great idea. My fiancee thought of it and I was grateful for her suggestion. After all, we all know how tricky it can be to buy presents for men, I think you will agree.

School days can be fun. No, really, listen a minute, they really can. I know what you are thinking; school equals homework and how on earth can that really be fun? But studying something you feel very passionate about can be truly inspiring and motivational. To follow one's real passion and develop and enhance one's skills and professional acumen in the process can be utterly fulfilling and, yes indeed, fun. There, I have spoken.
