We started to edit the documentary from Denali, Alaska - Robert and Gummi went to Denali, Alaska in the summer 2011.

This is the first part and second part is almost done, but we have run out of funds to finish the project.

Self Directed 401(k) in Iceland?

In Iceland there is a growing problem involving indexed residential housing loans. There are many Icelanders leaving the country or filing bankruptcy. The housing loans are provided largely by IRA funds and are indexed loans, which means they add to the capital of the loan what the inflation rate equals is each month. So many home owners in Iceland are now what is called "up side down" or in other words they owe much more than they can sell their houses for. In America we could simply let the bank or IRA fund take the house and start over. In Iceland we have a mortgage on the house and on the individual, which means that if a person cannot pay their bills and walks out of the house and starts over, they still owe the bank or the IRA fund the same amount as before. The will have to declare themselves bankrupt to be able to start fresh. We will destroy our social security number by walking away from a house. Icelanders want to make deals to be able to still have the house and pay their bills, but the IRA's funds say that they cannot give anyone a discount of the indexation because they are protecting the people who will need their retirement funds in future. But it seems that the people they are protecting are the same people that currently owe the funds. It seems a bit odd. Many people choose to leave the country and live a better life in Norway or Sweden for example.

The law in Iceland does not allow individuals to self direct their 401(k) or IRA's. Would it not be a great solution to many homes in Iceland to allow self directed IRA's? Then a family would be able to invest in a house with their IRA funds (which is a tax free environment), move into that house and pay rent, their rent builds up their IRA funds and they do not have to worry about future retirement payments nor housing in the future. Maybe this is too simple?

By allowing the indexed loans to soar out of reach for the average Joe, the banks have created wealth that has no reserves and there for they can lend more money and create even more inflation.

When does the drug addict realize he is in trouble? When are we drinking to much? When do we realize that we are creating a greater gap between the rich and the poor? The Icelandic government wants to be the first government in the world to solve the economic crisis by raising taxes, both on individuals and companies. How come other governments are doing the opposite to solve their crisis? Are Icelanders smarter than the rest?

My first Toon.

We have a saying in Iceland if you say good bye to someone „Verð í sambandi við þig" it means I will be in contact with you. Then when people use it it daily conversations they shorten it to „Verð í bandi" which can mean "I'll be in touch" or "I will be in a rope" Double meaning. This toon sketch also works in English, because we always talk about hanging out or how's it hanging? Which has me confused a little, because what does that really mean, does it mean how's IT hanging... well I guess it's just a saying.
