The Nebraska delegates are deciding between Paul and Romney Saturday. The pastor believes Republican delegates should obey God and choose Paul.

MOUNT TABOR, ISRAEL (ANS) -- Many Christians traveling on a Holy Land tour are so busy being shuttled on and off buses they often miss the unique experiences and special sites revered by locals and seasoned travelers alike.

Historic Gathering of Denominational Leaders

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- On January 13, 2012, an historic meeting of leaders took place at the Central Offices of the Foursquare Church. Welcomed by president Glenn Burris, 18 top leaders of denominations committed to a common emphasis on holiness in the 21st century met as part of the Wesleyan Holiness Consortium (WHC). The WHC was formed in 2006 at a meeting of these leaders in Dallas. Haiti (MNN) ― Two years after a devastating earthquake crippled Haiti and killed thousands, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) remains actively involved in the rebuilding process, supporting more than 30 relief organizations with critical flights to 15 airstrips.

"We have been encouraged by the progress made in Haiti over the past year, but we know there is still a long road ahead," said John Boyd, MAF president and CEO. "It is a privilege to serve the people of Haiti daily, and we look forward to continuing our role in assisting with rebuilding efforts."

MAF currently operates three planes in Haiti and has been serving the country since 1986. They provide daily flights for relief workers, medical personnel, churches, and work teams involved in community development efforts. In a country where roads are nearly impassable and bandits threaten travelers, MAF services are invaluable.

The ministry organization has also distributed micro grants to help families and small businesses get back on their feet after the earthquake. MAF funding has allowed families to rebuild their homes and send their children to school. MAF also assisted in repairing a school, provided meals for school children, and constructed 26 small homes for those in need.

Since cholera broke out in late 2010, nearly 500,000 cases have been reported, resulting in more than 265,000 hospitalizations and some 6,800 deaths. The Haitian Ministry of Health recently reported that it expects the cholera epidemic to continue for the next two to three years as it spreads from urban centers to rural areas. MAF has aided in the ongoing battle against cholera by flying medical teams and supplies to clinics and hospitals.

Thousands effected by Indian floods as Cyclone Thane strikes

Global development agency Christian Aid has released £50,000 to partner organisations in India after more than 6,000 Indian villagers were forced from their homes and 48 were killed by Cyclone Thane.

The storm swept through the east-Indian coastal state of Tamil Nadu on December 30 uprooting trees, destroying roads and buildings and bringing down power lines.

As villagers attempt to rebuild their damaged homes many communities are still without electricity and clean drinking water. The high winds also destroyed 15000 hectares of paddy crops and 20000 hectares of cashew and jackfruit trees which will both affect immediate survival needs but cause long term impact on livelihoods.

In Tamil Nadu, the two most vulnerable groups of concern to Christian Aid are the socially excluded dalit community and Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.

In response to the crisis Christian Aid has launched a Rapid Emergency Response Initiative providing support to the Organisation for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation and Social Awareness Society for Youths, two existing partner organisations in Tamil Nadu, which have been able to carry out assessments and start relief activities

Emergency food provisions consisting of dry food such as rice, flour and milk powder for two weeks are being circulated along with winter kits of bedding and floor mats for those whose houses have been destroyed.

Japanese environmentalist inspired by Hebrew Psalm

Japanese environmentalist Shigeatsu Hatakeyama, who is up for a "Forest Hero" award from the United Nations, has an unusual inspiration for his long-standing idea that healthy forests depend upon healthy oceans and vice versa: the Bible's Psalm 42 - writes Hisashi Yukimoto.

As the psalm compares a deer's thirst for water to the soul's desire for God, Hatakeyama's campaign of tree-planting, education and conservation is called "The Forest is Longing for the Sea, the Sea is Longing for the Forest." The name "is rooted in the 'longing for' [in Psalm 42]," said Hatakeyama, who is 68, a professor of field studies and practical learning at Kyoto University and a member of the Japan Baptist Union.

He is a finalist for a Forest Hero Award from the UN under its 2011 International Year of Forests programme. The awards will be announced on 9 February.

Although Hatakeyama inhabits academia, he also manages his family's oyster fishing business in the coastal city of Kesennuma, slammed on 11 March by the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the northeastern coast. The tsunami killed his mother and destroyed much of their property. "I thought that the sea had died," Hatakeyama said. "I had lost my words when I thought that everything was over."

In a December speech to a congregation in Tokyo, Hatakeyama said that his 22-year-old campaign's concepts are demonstrated by the sea's recovery after the disaster.

His campaign organisation and a group of scientists have recently studied the marine ecosystem of Kesennuma Bay and are surveying the forest-sea linkage. Hatakeyama explained that iron being supplied from the forest through the river into the sea is playing a key role in the recovery of sealife. "As a deer longs for flowing streams, the oysters long for the water in the forest," he noted.

"I am convinced that the 'Forest is Longing for the Sea' [campaign] has taken the right course," he said.

Doctors call for end to supply of execution drugs

A coalition of medical professionals from around the world has today (6 January 2012) called on the pharmaceuticals company Hospira to prevent their products from being used in US executions.

The legal charity Reprieve reports that Hospira is the sole supplier to the US of pancuronium bromide, a paralysing agent used as the second part of a three-drug ‘cocktail’ by most states which carry out lethal injections.

In an open letter to Hospira’s Chief Executive, published in the Lancet, the doctors warn of the very real possibility that the use of pancuronium could result in “extreme pain and suffering” for the prisoner, and emphasise that “no responsible pharmaceutical company should have anything to do with executions.”

They call on Hospira to put in place a restricted distribution system – following the example of another pharmaceutical company, Lundbeck – which would prevent the drugs from being used in execution chambers, whilst ensuring that they continue to reach legitimate medical users.

The letter concludes: “As your own code of business conduct states, Hospira has an ‘ethical compass’ to ‘accept the responsibility of being an ethical global citizen’. It is time for Hospira to live up to those fine words, without affecting patients’ care, by putting in place a restricted distribution system for pancuronium.”

Dr David Nicholl, a consultant neurologist at City Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and a signatory to the letter, said: “Although we all want to see pancuronium available for legitimate clinical use, it is disappointing to see that, to date, Hospira have not used the experience of other manufacturers to effectively block the use of their drug in executions. Hospira have yet to show the leadership and willingness to take action that other drug companies, such as Lundbeck, have managed to take by the use of a restricted distribution system."

He continued, "I would be intrigued to know how many ill US inmates, who are not on death row, have had pancuronium as it is a very potent drug that should only be used in a critical care setting by a certified anaesthetist (or anaesthesologist if in the US). There is thus no legitimate use for clinical care that I am aware of in a US prison.”

Abortionist Riley Waives Hearing, Will Be Extradited to Maryland to Face Murder Charges

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 9, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Abortionist Nicola Irene Riley made a brief appearance in court this morning in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she waived an extradition hearing, clearing the way for her to be transported to Maryland to face murder charges.

Riley was indicted last month by a Maryland grand jury on one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Second-Degree Murder, and one Count of Conspiracy to commit Murder for her participation in an illegal bi-state late-term abortion scheme with the notorious New Jersey abortionist Steven Chase Brigham. She continues to be held without bail.

Brigham was charged and has already been arraigned on five counts each of First and Second-Degree Murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder. He was released on January 6, from the Cecil County Detention Facility after posting a $500,000 bail with a combination of personal assets and the use of a bail bondsman.

Riley and Brigham were caught when Riley perforated the uterus and bowel of a late-term abortion patient at a secret late-term abortion mill in Elkton, Maryland. Their suspicious behavior at the hospital emergency room, where they had transported the bleeding patient in a rental car, raised red flags with ER workers who reported them to the police. Their clinic was later raided by police, who discovered the bodies of 35 aborted babies in a freezer. The babies were as old as 36 weeks gestation, according to documents seized during the raid.

In September, 2010, Operation Rescue filed a complaint with the State Attorney in Elkton, Maryland, asking for criminal charges against Brigham, and launched grassroots efforts to bring him to justice.

Further investigations by Operation Rescue uncovered that Riley had lied about a previous criminal conviction and prison sentence in order to gain licensure in three states. She is currently banned from doing abortions in any state.

Riley is expected to be transported to Maryland within the next few days where she will be arraigned.
