In order to be a successful Bass fisherman, you need to be familiar with the species itself, different bodies of water, and the different types of angling and fishing equipment and accessories. Also, you should be familiar with Bass habits, patterns and behavior, preferred foods, and mastering some basic skills like preparation of bait and lures, casting accuracy, and the complexities of casting and retrieval. And this is only the beginning! Once you have a general knowledge of all of the above, you are indeed ready to fish. The next big hurdle, and probably the most crucial, is learning how to cast properly and effectively. This is no easy task. The first spring hatch, a.k.a. the best dry fly fishing of the year, is the Big Hole River Skwala hatch.

About the Skwala Stonefly on the Big Hole The Skwala stonefly makes it"s appearance as spring and the end of winter collide. Fly fisherman come from across the country to catch the big browns.

On the Big Hole River this is around mid-April. As the ice breaks free from the Big Hole and water warms to between 45-48 degrees for a consistent period of time, skwalas start to migrate to the banks of the Big Hole River to hatch. The Skwala is a size #8-#10 stonefly with an olive colored body.

Posted By: Ryan Barba

By: ArticleSnatch.com - : Sports-and-Recreation | Fishing

Fishing In Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area has a variety of aquatic habitats, and is home to both warm-water and cold-water fish species.
